RAID hard drives, mark Question (evil?)

I'm about to buy two disks for RAID0 for assets on my i7 rig, running Windows 7 (Yes, I'm aware of RAID0 is for execution only, I backup all the time). It would be great to get two 1 TB WD RE3 for a total of 2 TB (approximately $320 delivered), but I'm a cheapskate under budget constraint. This Samsung drive would provide sufficient space for the moment in a pair and is literally half the price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152118

Two of them would be $170 shipped and be only a ½ TB more small once RAIDed the WDs. BUT, everyone has use these disks? I don't want to save money if it brings little reliability. Wrong, if you read this, I remember you say you use Samsungs?

Yes, I use Samsungs F1 and as for you, it is a budget oriented choices. However, I have 16 of them.

One thing to consider is that you intend to use them in Raid0, who has no redundancy. Reliability is so important to consider. Bill was awarded a contract of nice with 7200,12 records. It is a possibility, the other is the WD RE, that you mentioned, or the Samsung F3. Note, however, that I had 2 out of my failure of 16 disks in the first 4 months. At the same time replaced under warranty and after the reconstruction of the matrix, without loss of data. That, unfortunately is a luxury, you have with raid0. It's a tough call to say "get it". How critical is the data about the raid0, what facilities are to be restored in the event of a disk failure, what is it worth for you to $$$. My feeling is that the WD RE are the most reliable, the Samsung have the best price and 12 Seagates series is somewhere between the two.

  • With Toshiba Tecra S3 RAID hard drive temperature monitoring

I wonder if there is a software (or a tweak for Toshiba RAID Utility/drivers) that would allow the monitoring of the temperature of the HARD drive.

Utility known as SpeedFan, HDTune etc., I tried, and that work very well at least with IDE drives, either don't notice not the hard drive SATA RAID at all on my Tecra S3, or they can not access the S.M.A.R.T on the temperature information (possibly information can not pass through Toshiba RAID drivers...)

    Thnx for any comments.

    Hello

    I usedEveresthome edition.
But I am an owner of the laptop with a disk IDE HDD and to tell the truth I don't know if it will support the feature m RAID.

    But you can test it.
This utility reports the HARD drive and the temperature of the CPU and provides many useful and detailed information on the characteristics of portable equipment.

I hope it's going to market

  • Substitute Satellite A660 - HARD drive failure - questions

My laptop A660 tohiba with 650 GB drive hard as he begins says: cannot start but nevertheless starts.
So I think it's time to replace it. I have a few questions.

    1. What is the exact model of hard drive I need to ask? SATA?
2.i said only, I could get 500 GB or 1 TB hard drives Toshiba, my machine would support a 1 to?

    Help, please.

We must look for SATA 2.5 HARD disk and my knowledge, any size must be supported from the controller SATA isn't really limited to a particular size.
That is why must be too 500 GB same 1 TB.

But even if the controller SATA isn't limited to a certain size of HARD drive, there is always a small risk of compatibility problems between the BIOS and the new device.

  • Satellite C660 - update the HARD drive firmware question

I have satellite C660 with hard drive: MK3275GSX, firmware: v.GT001M. On another Web site support site I found the update of firmware for v.GT002D ([link: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/mw/en/mwdhs1/DriverDetails/Product/latitude-e6330?driverId=FP21C&fileId=3126089791&osCode=W732 & languageCode = en]).

    Can I use this update?

Question may be stupid, but why firmware update HARD drive? Over the past 10 years I ve ever installed an update of the HARD drive.

If Toshiba support doesn t offer an official update on the download page, I think that you don t need.

The original 160 HD SATA Gbt completes and slow and I want to upgrade to a new HD. I think I have a Seagate 1 TB 2.5 inch notebook computer Solid State Hybrid Drive. Will be of this form and it works without any problem on this laptop? What is a recommended option?

    Hi @Chris_8318,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A place where you can find solutions for your problems with the help of the community!

I stumbled upon your post on the laptop and wanted to help you! I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion dv6500 Entertainment of CTO Notebook and concerns with the installation of a hard drive again. If you keep the new larger than your original SSD and it supports Sata 5400 RPM 9.5 mm, 2.5-inch hard drives, you'll have no problems.

Here is a link to your manual page 23 for specifications.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thank you.

  • FCPX / hard drive not question

Good so I had a failure of hard drive on my MacBook pro. I had just finished editing and exporting my video of FCPX on the desktop. Of course my computer is completely toast right now, until I get a new one, and I had not saved this project because I exported literally right there. Anyway, I was curious to whether or not the Final Cut Pro projects are accessible on a different computer if I connect with my apple and re - download FCPX. Basically, I would be able to see the projects that I have saved in Final Cut Pro X? Or would it be re download as a completely new application with nothing in it?

LLA libraries are completely distinct. Download the app again will not recover them.

I was wondering if this unit can use an SSD?

    Thanks for your comments

    Hello

The link below is the manual of your device

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c04438537

Supports up to 12 GB of memory system max (module DDR3L 1600 MHz), (Page 2)

For hard disks according to the manuals, I don't see that it supports standalone SSD.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 - 6119tx HARD drive upgrade question

    Hi all

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 - 6119 notebook tx. I am facing a SMART hard disk error and I need to replace it with a new hard drive. It currently has a capacity of 640 GB 5400 RPM HDD Toshiba. All I want to know is can I replace it with a 1 TB hard drive, 7200 RPM (with SATA 6.0 GB/s)? May be I have to 5400 RPM (with SATA 3.0 Gbit/s)?

    Hi kiranmanju

After some reading on this subject, I think I'll go with MistaB.

SSDS and hard drives are treated in the same way by the operating system, and they are easily interchangeable. So no, you shouldn't have any problems during the installation of a faster 7200 RPM drive to replace your current drive to 5400 RPM.

There are only a few things you need to know when buying a compatible disc:
    (A) interface: the vast majority of readers is SATA, and it is what you need
    (B) 2.5 "or 3.5": the first is for laptops, the latter is for desktop computers
    (C) drive height: most of the hard drives 2.5 "are 9.5 mm, and it's what fits most laptops. Some high-capacity drives are 12.5 mm

Other than that, the rest of the variables are related to performance.

but I can't guarantee anything of it now. I don't really know why then the user's Guide for your product just omitted part of 7200 RPM if they do not harm anyway. I recommend that contact HP technical support for more details.

    Thank you

  • W520 - RAID / hard drive questions

Before I discovered, I received a replacement W520, I bought an SSD 128 GB to Lenovo (a student discount, it was not too bad). I bought it because it's a SATA II interface, what my current W510 can support. But now that I'm a W520, that supports SATA III I should probably send the SSD back and get something else, right?

In addition, I don't know much about RAID, but I won't need to use a secondary HDD in my ultrabay slot I'm going? What about the mSATA... If I have three drives in storage at the same time, will that require RAID?

Regarding the 128 GB SSD, which really depends on what you paid, return the shipping charges and restocking fees.  I would never buy a SSD from lenovo.com.  You don't look at newegg.com?

About the RAID, no doubt whatever.  Unless you had it on your W510, W520 replace will not have it.  RAID is not necessary to use on three storage devices in the W520.

  • HP DV7 - 7323cl Hard Drive Swapping questions

    Hello friends of HP support.

I recently bought a laptop HP DV7 - 7323cl and encounter several problems I hope I could get assistance with.

First of all, I bought a drive SSD/hybrid I want to use instead of the original primary drive, as it is faster, has more memory space and supposedly consumes less energy.  I tried cloning the hard disk, which did not work as windows said it was missing a file somewhere in IPS (which it had).  Then, I made a set of recovery disks to reset to the factory.  Unfortunately, with this way, I get to 99% and I get an error code (I didn't write it!)  YARG ME, sorry).  I thought about doing a recovery on a USB drive, but of course am only allowed to make a single series of recoveries.

Any thoughts on how I can get this second drive as primary?

I did some research and finally discovered that he had something to do with the RAID drivers... who gave me this obstacle.  I complete the installation of Windows.

  • HP Pavilion DV6235 (US): HP Pavilion DV6235 (US) hard drive upgrade Question...

Should not a problem. You need to do some kind of recovery or backup support to put the software on the new drive, but if not just physically put in the place where the old hard disk, boot and install your software for it.

Looks like a lot of investment in very old hardware. Still, it should make it faster.

  • Dell Poweredge 1800 Raid 5 accidental removal of the HARD drive

I was trying to see the type of Raid HARD drive I wanted to upgrade the server. Out-of-disk HARD 3, 2 were disconnected. I turned off the server and then reconnected the HARD drive. The Raid is currently offline. It displays 00, 01 are missing and 03 as connected.

How can I get the raid, data are crucial and I know if I have INIT all data will be lost.

Then you will need to enter CTRL-R, highlight the PERC controller in the upper left corner of the VD MGMT screen, foreign and import.  Then see if your boots OS and your data is accessible.
