RAID0

Hello

What are the options, if any, I have RAID on a Presario SR1339UK? I picked up some cheap raptors and want to run them in RAID0.

I'm not interested in recovery on this machine that I already use snapshots and imaging, can I add RAID and if necessary any recommendation?... hardware/software configuration,?

Thanks again

If you use Windows XP there is a original RAID driver available on the web download supportal secction.

If you use a newer operating system such as Windows Vista or Windows 7, your best option would be to buy a PCI RAID controller card and install it in one of the three empty PCI slots on your motherboard.  I suggest sticking to SATA1 as PCI is a rather slow bus.

  • Can I use RAID0 on Satego X 200-21 L?

    Hello everyone

    I have a question. I can create a RAID0 on my Satego X 200-21 L and if so how?

    Thank you in advance.

Such a feature, if any, is described in s operating manuals. I think there is nothing RAID and I don't think that you can use.
If I remember well more old models of laptops with RAID as Qosmio G30 RAID option feature in the BIOS settings and were also preinstalled with Toshiba RAID Utility.

I think that these two options are not available on your model of Satego. Can you confirm this?

  • P900 + Win8.1Pro + RAID0 HDD Password = stride S3 problem

After that my system wakes up from a sleep of S3, one of the password protected SATA drives is not correctly be unlocked. It is the setting of a RAID0 (on-board controller), so therefore the RAID itself is blocked.

I am trying to unlock the drive through the Intel RST business tool, but I always get the message "incorrect password". Yes, I'm sure I typed the password correctly. I know that in the past, the BIOS passwords are not case sensitive, so I tried with a lowercase version of the my password - also did not work.

If I restart the system after the S3 stride, BIOS asks me the password from the drive. Thus, it is actually locked. If I enter the password, the machine turns to a start-up without problem.

I tried to run the BIOS mode OS Optimized Defaults, but it did not help. In this mode, when I restart after a wake of S3, I get a message failed RAID volume. Then the BIOS asks for the password and will to start normally.

My other readers, including a SSD m2 on a Flex adapter and a PCI-e SSDS are working very well. It's the only one (and the same) the two SATA SSD from the RAID volume that remains locked.

    My configuration:

    • 80 a BIOS version
    • 2 x Samsung 850 EVO in RAID0
    • 1 x Intel 750 Series on a PCI-e slot (which, incidentally is invisible in the BIOS!)
    • 1 x Samsung 850Pro (startup disk)
    • 1 x Samsung 850Pro, a Flex adapter. With this one the BIOS sees there is something plugged but don't watch the brand / model of the player. In the trunk, order is just said "Mezz. "adapter:
    • Intel RST - e Toolbox ver 4.3.0.1542 (later I could find)
    • Intel SSD PCI - e driver version 1.1.0.1004

Absolutely, I can't tell if it's a problem of BIOS or a bug in the operating system. Both the HARD drive passwords and sleep mode S3 are important to me, so I would really like this to work.

  • 472 f disappeared after RAID0!

My laptop is a Pavilion ultrabook 14-b112eo. I have an ssd (32 GB) and a hard drive (500 GB). When I RAID0 these BIOS searched the drive size is 60 GB and not 532 gb. So, after I installed Windows 8 only 60 gb of storage is available and 472 GB went I had a glance in the disk management tool and I can only find 60 GB it as well. What have I done wrong here?

    Hello

The size of a Raid 0 array can be twice the size of the smallest drive - that is, twice the size of your SSD.

  • Win7 install on RAID0 with HP Z820

    Hello

I'm sure someone has tried and managed to do it, but somehow I'm stumped...

    Basically, what I'm trying to do, it's a RAID0 OS 2xSSD installation.  My Z820 using a LS 2308 card.

My system has already 2 volumes of LSI, 2x256GB RAID0 on port 2-3, 4x128GB RAID0 on port 4-7 and I want to create a RAID0 to 2x256GB on port 0-1 and install the OS on.  Ideally, settle my operating system existing in the new RAID0.

I have created an image of my OS using Windows 7 backup and restore tools.  Somehow, create repair disk crashes.  As the operating system has been installed by using the HP DVD recovery, I think that's why.

In any case, the system starts, I'm in the LSI configuration utility and trouble begins: I can see my SSD as my two RAID volumes (created in the graphical interface, using Megaraid), but I don't seem to be able to create a new RAID volume, which is a limitation of the 2308 or is there something else?  Disappointing...  Is this normal?

OK, well, let's bring back the old now, here is the disappointing part still more: I don't seem to be able to get Windows to load the LSI drivers (or all drivers to elsewhere!), which means that my readers can not be seen, so I can't recover anything!  Is there something that I am missing?

OK, got some food will integrate the drivers via DISM, come to discover the only driver files cannot be used, one must use the hierarchy in the repertoire of the installation of the driver for it to work...

Still curious about what is happening with ports 0 & 1 not available for the creation of RAID...

  • Need help installing a Raid0 in Win7Pro disk management.

I had a raid but only one drive died and I'm trying to get a new will raid0.  I have an SSD for the boot drive and two new Sata Seagate 3TO disks for the raid.  They are installed and the Intell Rapid Storage Technology Software sees them and I used that to create a new switched-on and both drives are chosen as members.

Now I go to disk management in Windows, but I forgot what to do now. Initialize disks, make them dynamic with GPT partitions and choose them as striped readers?  Just not sure of the procedure.  I have a motherboard Asus P9X79 WS with UEF Bios.

Personally, after seeing the problems, I use raid, except that using a third party hardware raid card and for redundancy, I more than two disks, at least one more of a resumption of the fall-over

A decent raid card costs about $500

RAID 0 is a striped raid configuration

  • Help! : How to install disks raid0 2x500Go of a XPS8300 in a XPS8500 (raid0 not configured) without loss of data?

    Hello world

My XPS8300 has recently crashed due to the lightning (food), and I had to return to my insurance company who me repaid. So I have a new Dell XPS8500.

I just kept the old XPS8300 two drives in raid0 because they were ok and I wanted to be able to recover my data.

So I wonder if I can insert these two drives in raid0 in place of the original disc in my new XPS8500 which are not actually configured raid0 without risk of data loss. I know that this raid0 configuration store data on two disks that depends on the configuration of the original controller. This configuration was made by Dell on my old XPS8300 and I don't have it anymore.

In order to access the drives of my XPS8500 and re-read my datas for more external copy, how can I get the exact settings for the configuration of the bios/raid0 in the XPS8500, probably the same as XPS8300?

    Any response would be appreciated.

From what I see, the situation is this: you have a RAID 0 pair of hard drives of your computer that failed you believe still work.  Try to remember that Lightning does weird things to a computer, your drives maybe isn't as good as you think they are.  If they are still good, however, it is possible that they could work as a RAID 0 volume on your new XPS 8500.  Disks have RAID 0 metadata on them and the RAID controller on the 8500 XPS should be able to pick up. I don't think that the processors are very different between the two machines.

You might have trouble booting from disks, however.  8500 XPS BIOS is a bit different from that of the XPS 8300, and I think that it is running Windows 8.  This OS requires parameters not available on the XPS 8300 that have to do with the firmware UEFI is used instead of the legacy PC BIOS.  If you simply install the readers and try to start, some parameters of UEFI would make no sense to the Windows 7 operating system which is most likely present on your old RAID 0 pair of disks.  Even if the system boots to RAID 0, there are enough differences between the mothers of the two systems to facilitate the difficult operation.

If you still want to give it a go, I suggest that you keep the existing XPS 8500 system disk in place and plug the RAID 0 hard drives in the third and fourth SATA ports.  This will allow the RAID ROM show the RAID 0 volume as an extra disk and allow you to access the contents of this volume.  You may need to take possession of the folders and files on the RAID volume before you can copy, depending on the security settings you had on your XPS 8300.  In addition, you need to maybe change the SATA RAID controller setting and activate 3 and 4 SATA ports until readers discussed.  Older machines have sometimes RAID Autodetect/AHCI and an Auto setting to ports, but some of the newer computers are not.

You might want to try the RAID setting before going to the trouble to install readers.  The RAID setting uses the AHCI, but he's also looking for RAID metadata on the hard drives.  If the reader of the XPS 8500 system does not, you could get a boot failure.  In case that you need to reinstall your Windows 8 operating system in RAID mode if you always want to try to mount your RAID drives.

  • 13 Alienware with two 512 SSD's in RAID0 Possible?

I think to buy an Alienware 13, but I have a question I can not anwer myself by using the manual, site etc.

Is it possible to operate the 13 Alienware with two 512 SSD in RAID0 at full speed.

Service Manual, I discovered, there is a drive carrier with two slots/connectors of M2, but it does not say that the two connectors are available at the same time at full speed. (I hope, that he supports full speed like the Alienware M14xR2 no I have where the Bay-DVD works on 3gbs rather 6gbp)
Also, the "SATA Operation" option is available in the BIOS but it only States that:

To configure the mode of operation of the integrated SATA hard drive controller. Default: AHCI

So I'm not sure that it is a 'RAID' option available...

Maybe someone could check its BIOS...

Also, anyone know if there is some new laptops alienware coming this year?

    Thank you...

The two slots m2 work SATA III and at the same time, however; You can't RAID them. 13 does not RAID support.

  • RAID0 on new XPS420

I used two hard drives in my PC for years and while I was aware of the Raid options, never really familiar with it.

I just got a new XPS 420 and ordered with two 320 GB drives and Raid0 with Data Protection. I didn't really expect that he came with the establishment - I can't use only 220 and 70 GB is for Norton Save & restore. As you know, the second hard drive is strictly a mirror of the first.

I'm OK with this set up, I have an external 500 GB drive for lots of storage - however, what I want to do is add a second, smaller DHM and use it strictly to Norton backup copies (I already receive warning with the establishment of 70 GB it is almost full). Then I would spend all my photos to the 70 GB partition, freeing some of the main partition.

Will this work? I want to preserve the drive mirror set and "data protection". And not so sure I can change Norton settings without disturbing something I shouldn't.

    Thanks for your help!

  • -RAID0 - 2xHDD split?

    Hello!

I intend to buy a new laptop soon, probably the XPS...

However, before that I would get a few questions - here concerning hard disks:

As I know that I need a lot of HARD drive space, and in addition, it must run fast, so why I decided it is better to have one with 7200 RPM instead of 5400 RPM.

the largest available for the XPS is a 200 GB HARD drive, well actually I have like 2 of them in my book

but it is said, they passed as RAID0... from what I could find on 2 hard drives appears as a disk, which is not quite what I really wanted (buy 2 fast hard disks, install Win and other applications on one and store music, videos,... on the other. When finally the space becomes smaller and smaller, I had planned to replace the HARD 'media' with a bigger drive, who might not have such a fast spin... see what I mean?)

then, may these 2 drives (related with RAID0) be divided by the user somehow?

  • Intel Rapid Storage on Raid0 error help

At startup when the screen flashes all the disks on my system, it shows an error on one of the drives in raid0.  When the Win7 finally load the Intel Rapid Storage notification in the hidden icons bar presents a problem.  The Intel Rapid Storage of opening of the status bar shows this:

I always open the videos I saved on the Board of the new media projects and do not understand what means the error message.  As far as I know, it still works.

    Any ideas on that?

    Thanks for your help.

    James

I had some problem a long time ago, I forget exactly the error and the situation, but I think it was a failing hard drive. Make sure that your backup is current before you do anything else to fix. If there is a problem with the structure of raid, you might be able to rebuild the raid and it works again ok. you could also try to click on the reset to normal disk, or try the check and repair function... If this is the beginning of the problems with this drive, it can continue to cause problems or fail completely one day.

Here are some manuals from intel and you can look through their forums for similar problems.

  • Place you RAID0 RAID1 by adding a drive

Hi, I have a single drive of course configured as raid0. I bought a new drive of the same and I would now add this disk and change the type of raid in raid1 without loss of data. In openmanage if I click on the virtual drive raid0, I can choose reconfigures and in the next screen, I can add the new drive, and then change the type of raid in raid1. Can you confirm me it reconfigure alone will make a copy of the data on the new disk without data loss?

    Thank you

    Kappa85,

This is the correct process, the term for what you are wanting to do is called a Raid level Migration. It should reflect the existing Raid 0 unit to the new and changing raid 1 without loss of data. You can read more about hereRaid level migration.

Let me know if it helps.

  • Install ESXi 3.5 on RAID0?

I'm new to ESXi. ESXi can be installed on a RAID0? If so, are there really no benefits to do?

    Thank you

    Mike

Yes.  Without her ESX(I) will wait for readers to perform any write physically on the disc.  With a BBWC writing will be stored in the cache and ESXi can proceed with other I/o to disk and the controller will then write to the disk when it is capable of.

  • RAID0 or SSD for i7-2720QM 2.2 GHz + nVidia Quadro 3000 M 2 GB (first)?

    Dear all,

reading on mobile (laptops) different options to edit, I came across

This discussion , where he said

"This prevents one to use an MPE nVidia video card AND a raid controller.

I'm not so much in hardware, I am comfotable building me towers of PC (and I recently built one for editing),

and now I just need a mobile solution and you are looking for a laptop edit AVCHD.

    You can configure m6600 Dell for a raid0 (500 GB 7200) and an nVidia Quadro 3000 m (2 GB of GDDR5 memory) with a

    i7 2720QM 2.2 GHz processor.

And now, I'm a little confused with this quote. I really benefit than raid0 + Quadro in MPE 5.5 first?

Or it is better to go for SSD and some external raid0 via eSata/USB3.0?

I hope that Mr Harm Millaard who will comment.

    Thank you in advance,

    Kind regards

    Denis.

It will certainly help performance, provided that it is as GTech or LaCie eSATA raid, but forget to Drobo. It's only good for backups.

  • Best for Raid0? CaviarBlack WD or Samsung F3

    Hi all

I'm consider upgrade my hard drive in the future and I found that many ppl recommended Samsung spinpoint F3.

But currently my 2 computer discs which is CaviarBlack of WD 1 TB Sata III 64 MB.

so I just buy a hard drive more and raid0 2 WD?

buy 2 or more Samsung F3 to raid0?

In addition, my mobo is Gigabyte x 58 ud3r which has 2 Sata III ports that support Marvell Raid 0.

the WD Sata III 64 MB had that advantage F3 Sata II 34 MB using the port Sata III?

Relevant news of the WD forum:

"My experience is that readers worry constantly out of the picture and you will tear your hair.  It is not worth.

Previous WD drives used to meet a utility called WDTLER in which you could turn on TLER Office disc so that they fall to a RAID array.  I used it successfully on two Caviar Black 640 GB SATA drives to keep a fall from a RAID 1 mirror.  It took me several weeks to understand because a player was constantly dropped and rebuilt.  Worked like a charm.  Since then WD has disabled this feature in office disks WDTLER will no more work on them.   You will have to buy their more expensive enterprise RAID (RE) discs, or go with another brand.  Hope that helps.

    WD FAQ answer ID 1397:

Western Digital manufactures discs hard desktop edition and hard drives RAID Edition. Each type of hard drive is designed to work specifically as a standalone player, or in a RAID of several disk environment.

If you install and use a hard drive connected to a RAID controller in desktop publishing, the drive may not work properly. This is caused by the normal error recovery procedure which uses a desktop edition hard drive.

Note: There are a few cases where the manufacturer of the RAID controller designed their readers to work with specific model office records.  If this is the case you should contact the manufacturer of this Chamber for any assistance on this disc, then it is used in a RAID environment.

When an error is located on a disk hard desktop edition, the player will enter into a deep regeneration cycle to try to fix the error, retrieve the data from the problematic area and then reassign a space dedicated to replace the problematic area. This process can take up to 2 minutes depending on the severity of the issue. Most RAID controllers allow a short time for a drive to recover from an error. If a hard disk takes too long to complete this process, the player will be removed from the RAID array. Most RAID controllers allow 7 to 15 seconds for error recovery before you remove a hard drive from an array. Western Digital does not recommend installing desktop edition takes readers in an environment of business (on a RAID controller).

Western Digital RAID edition hard drives have a feature called TLER (time limited error recovery) which stops the drive to enter a cycle of regeneration. The hard drive only 7 seconds to try to recover. This means that the hard drive will not be removed of the RAID array. While TLER is designed for RAID environments, a disc with TLER active will work with no loss of performance when used in environments not RAID.

WD has disabled the use of TLER on newer drives, as the recent black Caviar, you can make the wrong choice, but as I already said, I believe that these problems are more noticeable on parity RAID and less than raid0 thus immediately, but do not hold it against me if this believe proved to be false. Personally, I would choose other disks for a raid.
