RAM DDR2 & DDR3 on Satellite U400 modules

Among the most reliable information in my pc/laptop software it seems that Toshiba u400 can manage DDR3 and DDR2, see the image >
[http://i48.tinypic.com/2hg4u9l.jpg]

I just want to know if someone is using DDR3 in toshiba u400, because as I see it seems to work...?

What you see is info given by the third party software.
The question is: are the upgrade info and can be trusted?

In my opinion, you should follow start instructions given by the manufacturer.
What U400 do you have exactly?

    The question is...

I want to upgrade my portable computer system memory 3 GB DDR2 (800 MHz) RAM to 4 GB of RAM DDR3 (1066 MHz), which is compatible or not?

    Hello

In my opinion, you should follow specification not Intel and Toshiba. S Toshiba of info is based on own tests and facts.
So, depending on the specifications of Toshiba for the GM45 Chipset it is clearly written:

    Min(on Board) wheel capacity - DDR2 800 MHz 0 MB / 8 GB max
    Type of extension of memory - DDR2 800 MHz 1 GB/2 GB/4 GB
    Type of module - SO-DIMM

So if Toshiba write about 800 MHz modules, you must use the modules to them and not faster.
You may be able to use faster too, but they do not work with the maximum speed, but not going down to 800 MHz.

If you want to use max RAM amount use recommended and tested 2 x 2 Go DDR2-800 (PA3669U-1M2G).
Indicated as compatible RAM, 4 GB DDR2-800 (PA3670U-1M4G).

  • Satellite U400 - problem with the new extension to 2 GB RAM

    Hello

    My satellite U400 have 3 GB of DDR2 memory. (2 GB DDR Kingston PC5300 + 1 go)
    I tried to put 4 GB of RAM (2 x 2 GB DDR2 PC5300 Kingston).
But I have the blue screen on startup of windows.

Each extension RAM works very well (try with 2 GB of RAM only).

Windows 7-64 bit / CRUCIAL M4 256 GB HARD drive.

    Do you have any solutions?

    Thank you.

Can you please post exact model laptop (U400-xxx)?
I just want to which Kingston modules are 100% compatible with your laptop satellite.

I can only imagine that you are using incompatible Ram. All compatible modules will be recognized correctly and you will be able to boot your laptop as usual.

  • Question about the maximum amount of RAM on Satellite U400-10J

    Hi all!

    2 weeks ago, I bought Satellite U400-10j.
Now, I want to extend the RAM.

This chipset is inside my laptop?

Does he really support only 2 GB of RAM?

    Hello

I wonder if you have checked the user manual installed which must be preinstalled on the laptop.

In any case, as far as I know that the memory on U400-10J can be upgraded up to 2 GB of RAM (2 x 1 GB).
DDR2 667 MHz (PC2-5300) 200 - PIN SODIMM modules are compatible and it seems that the Chipset Mobile Intel GL960 Express was built in.

    Hope I could help you

  • Satellite U400-12th-Expand RAM 8 GB possible?

    Hello

    I have a U400-12F with 2x2gb DDR2 667 RAM.
The specifications of the computer says it only supports maximum load of 4 GB (2 GB in each slot).
    I was wandering if this is really true or if I could put 1 4GB DDR2 667 for 6GB total, or 2 + 4 GB for 8GB.

    Hello

I checked the specs on the Web from Toshiba site and Satellite U400-12F has Intel GM965 chipset. According to the specifications of the chipset you can check on the Intel page, the maximum RAM capacity is 4 GB (2 GB in each slot).

Sorry, but an upgrade to 8 GB is not possible, but usually 4 GB should be enough. ;)

  • Satellite U400-138: RAM works with 667 Mhz instead of 800 MHz

    Hello

I have Satellite U400-138 with 3 GB of RAM (2 + 1 GB sodimm modules)
    I have new kit 2x2gb sodimm-s Corsair PC6400(800MHz)

When I install new modules, system reported that they are working on 667 Mhz instead of 800 MHz,
Maybe that's the problem BIOS chipset because that support this frequency.

Help me, what to do, to run new modules on 800 MHz?

    Hey Buddy

I doubt that it is a BIOS problem.
The point is that the speed of the RAM can be lowered and locked by the FSB (front side bus)
If the FSB supports only 667 Mhz then your RAM 800 Mhz will run only at 667 Mhz

  • Have 4 GB of RAM on Satellite U400 but says OS only have 2 GB

Have recently downgraded notebook Toshiba Satellite U400 (model PSU44A-00J00C) of original Windows Vista business to Windows XP Pro (pack 3 update service) assistance of the system recovery discs. Have 4 GB of RAM installed on the laptop with 32-bit system and was reading that this amount with Windows Vista, but now the figure has decreased!

I got the digits in the information system:

    Total physical memory: 4 GB
    Available physical memory: 2 GB
    Total virtual memory: 2Gb
    Available virtual memory: 1.96 GB

My available physical memory should not read at least 3 GB? BIOS is reading at 4 GB. Have updated the bios and chipset without change.

Want to tighten a little more memory to the computer, since I installed it - is the best I can get 2 GB?

Thanks for your interest, look forward to your response.

    Hello

Start the DirectX using the dxdiag command.
You will find a few details and the info about the system.
The news of RAM should be available as well check what it says DirectX.

PS: Win 32-bit must be present about 3.2 GB of RAM. It's max and limited by the 32 bit OS.

  • No need for common modules for Satellite U400 with Win XP

    Hi everibody!

I'm looking for Toshiba common Modules for Windows XP for Satellite U400-218 PSU44E. Spent a lot of time without results.
In seeking, fell on wire 55356.

In his post (July 31, 2010) * Xardas * gave the order of installation for Windows XP and one of the items on the list was "TOSHIBA common Modules.
This makes me think that everyone (at least * Xardas *) can point to the source of prorper to download the desired file or, if it is already impossible, directly this file send me.

    Thanks in advance!

Check section driver Toshiba on the European driver page and there is no common Modules available for one of the U400 series.

Question; Why do you need this tool?

Does anyone know how to open the laptop/notebook and how to change the cooling module?

Before you continue just a matter of discussion:
Let's say I help you with this and damage you something or broke a plastic part, what you will do in this case?
I mean you probably know that you can get a few small important parts as separate components.

By the way: this description may be provided in the manual. Disassembly of the laptop is authorized personal only. When you buy a new car it is no description how to disassemble the entire engine, right?

By the way: Jeanine's right. See this page. There are many useful tips on laptop disassembly procedure.

  • Satellite U400 - big noise from cooling modules

    Hello

bought a few months ago Toshiba Satellite U400 and everything was perfect, and I bought it just because I don't like the sounds.
When I surf the net I love that he's quite, but these last 5 days he began to ring.

Toshiba U400 works and it should be for many 'Air' on the side and its just all the time, even if I open IE or MSN or anything like that either, and before she just made some time, but now he often does.

Please help me because it's very embarrassing and it sounds too, and I don't like it, why this departure to East happened now and not before? and what I can do about it?

    thnx.

    Hello

    What you can do?
Well, first you must make sure your modules cooling holes are free of dust.
I recommend to use the jet of compressed air to remove dust of grids and cooling fans.
In most cases the dust prevents the flow of air that causes a higher temperature and therefore the propellers would turn faster.

Secondly, you can change the settings to more battery as energy saver.
If you are using Win XP, then you should check the Toshiba Power Saver.
Here, you can assign the CPU, the speed of treatment and performance at a lower level of cooling

  • Satellite U400 randomely reboot (PSU44E)

    Hello world

I have a strange problem on my Satellite U400.

For a few days, it began sending blue screens and restart.
I used the audit tool memory Vista and identified a faulty RAM.

I changed both with 2 * 2 GB PC6400 OCZ, and no more problems according to the memory of vista don't check tool.

But, sometimes it works very well, sometimes I get blue screens and even sometimes it's restart bluescreen wothout just like that..., pssh...
The other thing I noticed, is that I sometimes have a few weird lines that appear randomely on the screen like a bad contact...

I've updated the motherboard drivers, the light and the BIOS...
    I have no more clues...

    Someone has an idea?

    Thank you

    Hello

First of all the links to the pictures don t work.

Secondly, it would be interesting to know if your warranty is valid.
If Yes, then you must contact the ASP in your country before you replace any RAM and other pieces of equipment. Generally, the warranty should cover these replacements.

I have a U400 too and my laptop works well. I upgraded the RAM too but I have used DDR2 667 MHz (PC2-5300) 200 - PIN SODIMM modules.
I put t know why you used the PC6400 (800 Mhz) but perhaps that this problem is really related to the question of the RAM.

Eventually the higher temperature may affect functionality of the modules that would result in the BSOD.
Have you noticed a temperature higher inside the laptop?

    What about fan cleaning?
You can remove the dust from the cooling grids using a jet of compressed air
I think that it s worth a try

  • Should what ram I use in Satellite Pro C50 - A - 1 M 3

    Hello

    I recently bought the Satellite Pro C50 - A - 1 M 3. Reference number: PSCGKE-00M00GEN and since I have an old RAM stick from my previous laptop which is: Kingston, KVR1333D3S9 / 4G, 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM, DDR3 1333, Pc3 - 10600 CL9 204 pins

I was wondering what would be compatible with my Toshiba laptop?

So I think your DDR3 SODIMM module could be compatible

  • Satellite U400-14 b turns off and now it won't start

    Hello

just got a new Satellite U400 this week.
Worked perfectly the first days, and then last night, it just turns off and now it won't start.

I press the button and the row of lights beside him light up, but nothing happens that I n t even get as much as the Toshiba screen.
I tried a lot of things. I left it plugged in all night, tried to take the battery and any results now.

Little led lights on the bottom indicates that it is his stuffy, battery is white not orange when you press they light up only for a fraction of a second.

The only thing I can compare it is too when a car won t start and you keep turning and turning the key, well in that case, pushing a button, and nothing happens, fans don t whir or anything...

    help please...

Additional memory (RAM) has been installed? Try to remove a memory Module and try another memory location.

If bad memory is not the problem, then there is not much else you can do except send it to an ASP for warranty repairs.

  • Low RAM speed to the Satellite Pro A200

    Hi all!

I bought the Satellite Pro A200-1SS with 1 GB of RAM (DDR2 667 MHz), which I've recently updated with a module 2 GB DDR2 667 MHz of Kingston. Problem is that this vista partition, which was 4.2 with only 1 GB module suddenly dropped to 2.2. Everyone knows the same problem?

    Thanks for help.

  • Satellite U400-15B hangs on the Internet and make multimedia keys touch

    Hi all

Had two problems with my U400-15B which I hope to solve.

    (1) the first problem is that I noticed that my internet sometimes seems to weigh on Internet Explorer, when using the Web site who have a couple of images e.t.c.
It freezes but the rest of the laptop works very well - I want to say you can go to the start menu and other programs very well. However, if you open Microsoft Word, while this is the case, it will take a little more time to load than normal upward. Anyone know what this might be or how I can fix this problem?

I use Vista Home Premium 32-bit and the laptop has 4 GB of RAM / thus, Intel Centrino 2 P7350 - is powerful enough.

    (2) the second problem is that when I press the 'sound' button, the white lights and the white bar above the touchpad become informed. When I press on it again once the lights come back but he is not mute. Only when the laptop is put in standby mode and then woke up once again, the key work properly. All the others work fine. Does anyone know what is the cause?

I exchanged this laptop 3 times now and each of them did question (2), but surely this isn't normal.

Any help or advice to address these problems are very much appreciated.

    Thank you

    (1) have you tested a different internet browser? For example, Firefox.
I use Firefox for years and never had any problems with it. I like Firefox over Internet Explorer, it s faster and you will get a lot of modules useful for her ScrapBook.

    (2) have tried to update the BIOS? Look on the Toshiba site to find a newer version:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

I have a Satellite U400 too and it works without problems.
