Re-installing xp pre-installed on a new hard drive.

Hello

My PC came with Windows XP pre-installed, so I don't have a disk or serial number that I know.  My hard drive is about to break, so I need to buy a new one.  But how can I XP on my new hard drive, if the installation files are stored in a partition on the hard drive that came with the pc (and will be removed from the computer)?

See you soon,.

Ask the manufacturer of your computer, see the documentation or check on
their web site. Your computer should have come with instructions (and
You should have followed them) to burn the content of this partition
on a DVD.

  • Install Win8 on new HARD drive using disks of recovery on HP Envy M6

Okay, so I have my hard drive crashed a few months. So, I ordered a set of HP recovery disks. I finally get around to retrieve Win8 on the new HARD drive. However, I follow these instructions and it does NOT work. I get to the Boot Manager and nothing is there - at all. So, I went back to the BIOS and disabled secure boot (just in case). Yet, nothing. After several hours, I dropped...

Flash forward to today. I have enabled the legacy starts, moved DVD player y up in my order of start and stuck in a Win7 disc, I have here. One immediately recognizes the disc.

I finally decided to try to install recovery using USB thought which may help. So, I had on my desktop and tried to rip an .iso of the disks. Both PowerISO and IMGBurn rise "IO error" partially through the period of inquiry.

I'm starting think that the discs are bad... That would not explain why can't I see my optical drive in the Boot Manager however.

    Thoughts?

It was records. I downloaded a copy of Win8 and it began immediately.

  • How to install Win7 on new hard drive and still access all the files from the hard drives of previous Vista?

I currently have a Windows Vista PC. It has two SATA drives, one with the operating system, the one I use for storage.

I want to buy a new SATA hard drive and install a new copy of Windows 7 top.

I want to know the steps to follow to do this. My plan is this:

    1. turn the pc power off and open the case.

    2. remove the old hard disks

    3. plug the new empty hard drive

    4. turn on the pc and the insertion of the disc to install to Win7 for DVD-ROM drive

    5. enter in the bios and put the DVD-ROM as first boot device

    6. install win 7 on new hard drive.

    Is this correct?

Because my next question is important:

    7. Turning off the computer.

8 reconnect the two old hard drives. New total number of SATA drives connected = three.

Now when I restart the PC and login to Win 7, it lists two other drives as, for example, D:\ and E:\ readers?

How can I make this work?

    Thank you very much!

Thanks for your reply, but I don't want to dual boot. I just want to have the hard drive as the master drive Windows7 and the old two drives as slaves, where I can access files as the pictures and letters.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Well, I would disconnect all drives hard current interns, then connect the new hard drive, reinstall Windows 7, re - attach the old readers as slaves and copy all the data you need to on the disc of Windows 7.

  • Equium A200: impossible to get Vista installed on the new HARD drive recovery

    Hello

After a failure of the HD I bought a Toshiba no AF HD which is defective
Now that I had to buy a replacement HARD drive that is a player of AF but no matter how hard I try, I can't recovery Vista Home Premium software to install

I get an error "Windows cannot configure Windows" or something like this message.

    Pointers would be most useful.

    Thank you, Tim.

Usually, is not a big problem to install the Toshiba Vista image using the new HARD disk.
But I've already read in different threads that in the case of much larger hard drives the recovery procedure could not complete successfully.

In which case you would not be able to complete the Vista installation by using the recovery disk, you can try to install the system using the Microsoft disc. In this case I recommend you take the Win 7 OS. Its much better than Vista OS.

  • After win7sp1 clean install on a new hard drive, Windows Update runs forever - have tried MANY fixes

    April 2, 2016

For several days, I have reproduced this problem by starting with a W7Sp1 drive and also start with a considerably older drive of W7.  The old installation of W7 is going very well, first run of WUpdate receives a few fixes, apply and restart.  Rerun WUpdate and she finds Sp1.  Installation of Sp1.  Rerun Wupdate and it says to upgrade to a new Wupdate.

After the SP1 update and the new windows update, this system offers the same WUpdate symptoms as if from the W7Sp1 disk.  Immediately after the installation of the drive, run the wupdate.  He said: it must be updated to a new Wupdate.

(PS in each Installer Win7, I authenticated the product key and activated windows.)

After that, Windows Update never runs you want fixed.  (Left running 10 hours overnight).

(NO OTHER programs or anything like that is installed after installing Win7 and starting with Windows Update problems).

    =============================================================

    I found 2 programs: FixitAllUp.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 - downloading "MicrosoftFixit.wu.MATSKB.Run". (Chasing a "minimal boot"). The last time I have raced, he said if found 2 problems, but only fixed a.  I hit the button Details where he says that he finds the same 2 problems and fixed them BOTH.  It corrects "Missing or damaged registration Service" he said: he can't solve 'Installation problems of the recent updates' - but when you hit details it button show both under "green checkmark" FIXED.  (I also tried to run this several times, and he always finds and he said exactly the same thing, as did the first round).

Also have run "WindowsUpdateDiagnostic" downloaded from the microsoft site.  It's the same notes 2 problems and fixed one or both depending on if you are looking the summary or detail.

I read many many cases of a problem that dates back to 2011 and with various assumptions for this problem.

AND YET, Windows Update checks the updates for EVER and EVER.

    Help

There is a solution and it works very well...

    Windows Update problem (new)

The following procedure applies in the case of installation (reinstall) Windows 7.  It does not apply to a usual, normal day.

I'm afraid that you will do the reinstall again.  Not a terrible penalty to pay.  Usually takes less than an hour.  Then immediately proceed to the next procedure.   It's strange, but it really does work and many people have proved it.

NEVER install anything other than Windows updates until your system is up-to-date.  Once you have the list update, install all together.  Installation of updates in batches is not expedite the process or do better.

    1. Before you begin to re - install, download (32 or 64 bit) KB3083710 and KB3102810 in advance and store on a USB
    2. Start and end the re - install Windows 7 SP1
    3. Before that the newly installed system can go online for the first time, Disconnect the computer from the Internet.  This chronology is essential.  The system should NOT have access to the Internet when it starts.
    4. Install KB3083710 and reboot manually.
    5. Install KB3102810 and reboot manually.
    6. Restore the Internet connection, and run Windows Update as usual.
    7. After a few minutes, you should have a lot of updates to download and install.

  • Failed to install the new hard drive

I have a laptop Lenovo R61 on which I want to install a new hard drive, Kingston SSDNow V300 (60GB, 2.5 "), with Linux Mint.

I have a DVD of installation of Linux Mint. If I have the old hard drive installed, I can start from the DVD and enter Linux Mint where I can install it on the old hard drive.
If I change the hard drive for the new SSD, the computer starts only in part by the DVD (selection screen appears), then the computer automatically restarts. From AHCI in the BIOS (in Serial ATA menu) to compatibility did not change the behavior.

Any ideas how I can get Linux Mint installed on my new hard drive?

  • Install the new HARD drive, download "NTLDR is missing".

Finally found my Windows XP reinstallation CD and tried to install on a new hard drive, so I wouldn't have to worry about losing data on the former had his corrupt Windows Installer which can recover files at my ease once that I operate.

This is the problem... I can't to start from the reinstallation CD and get the message "NTLDR is missing, press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart" dreaded. Is it fair that I have to do a simple "Format [drive]: / s" on it while it is in the caddy, then stuff in something like oakcdrom.sys and edit autoexec.bat to load, or y at - it something else, I have to find a way to put it out there?

Or is it after recovery by user and time to call the Geek Squad?

You may need the disk to zero so that there are no partitions.  The installation of Windows may refuse initialize a disk if it detects unknown (to her) partitions on the disk.  The diagnostic partition occupies entire disk?  Otherwise, you can perform a custom installation, installing Windows allows you to create a partition, and then install direct to place Windows in there.
