  My neighbor gave me his Pavilion dv5 - 1044ca to watch. She said she had fixed 2 years ago and never it has never worked since.   Your hard drive is dying quickly and must be replaced. If you have not burnt the recovery discs again I'd get burn soon or you will have to order from HP. You will need to boot and install Windows when you put the new drive in.

  One of my CD / DVD player plays up.

  I can't record dvd had / CD on this subject.

  Stand by. According to specification for laptop, your laptop has been offered with Win8 pre-installed 64 bit. When used with the factory settings, everything should be OK.

  I just paid how to solve my problem. In my post, I said that Reset did not help. I should have specified that reset "smoothly" did not work. I did a Hard Reset, removing all the data on the Palm and Hotsync now works perfectly. I recovered all the data from the Dekktop.

  At first, I must say it's really strange that something like this happens so suddenly. It seems that your laptop can not find the HARD drive as a boot device.

  Start please your laptop, then press F2 to enter the BIOS settings. Check it please on the first page if the HARD drive is recognized and registered correctly. If Yes check it please boot option in the BIOS and don't forget HARD drive is set as the first boot device.

  Please post some info on the status of the BIOS and the HARD drive.

  Who Update Manager you mean exactly?
  I think that a screenshot would be very useful in this case.

  If you mean the update of Windows, you must check for Windows updates again and check if the updates will be installed.
