Re: Repacement for carpet * a UJ831S in Satellite M40

I need to replace the DVD-RAM drive in my Satellite M40.

Which drives are compatible because I can't source a new UJ831S?

I read the UJ870 is a good replacement unit, is it compatible?

Hello

Why don't you take a glance in the user manual?

I'm not an M40 owner, but I downloaded the manual for this element of the Toshiba page and discovered that this CD/DVD readers are compatible:

Samsung SD-C2712
Matsu * a UJDA760
Matsu * a UJ - 830B
Matsu * a UJ-831BT-A
Toshiba Samsung TS-L462A
Toshiba Samsung TS-L632A
TEAC DW-224TH
TEAC-W28E-xxx
Pioneer DVR-K15TBT

Other compatible drivers are not known for me...

  • Good for Satellite M40 DVD DVD player model

Can someone tell me what model of drive of DVD the Satellite M40 (PSM40A) was supposed to come with?
According to Windows (XP Pro), mine was initially a carpet * a UJ831S, the version of firmware 1.00. Due to problems with this drive, it was replaced under warranty by Toshiba.

According to the label, the new disc is a carpet * a UJ840, with annotation HW 1.10 FW 1.40, which I assume the hardware and firmware versions respectively. Problem is that this drive is reports still on Windows as a UJ831S, a firmware version 1.40 now.

I am sure that Toshiba write their own firmware for these drives and so have control over what is reported for Windows. I suspect that this model of M40 should never take a UJ840 and so it's to be deliberately badly reported to Windows as a UJ831S. I never saw the label on the original disc and have therefore no ideae if it was actually a UJ831S.

The reason why I'm curious is that I always have problems playing some audio CD original with this player and think that it could be a problem of hardware compatibility. It is certainly not a question of protection of the CD, and the CD set fine on other laptops I tried them, with the exception of Toshibas with Mat * one or recorders of DVD Teac.
Toshiba say that nothing can do more.

I must point out that this laptop was purchased in New Zealand and can be specific to the Australasian market. I write here because the New Zealand from Toshiba web site (actually ends up on the Austraian site) does not appear to have a forum.

    Thank you
    Malc

    Hello

I studied a bit in the internet on the disc that came with this unit but I can't find useful information about the name of the drive and which drive was delivered with this device, but I guess it was a UJ831S.
However, I suggest that the new drive is UJ840, but the Windows operating system recognizes this disk as a UJ831S because of the firmware.

I found this topic on the identification of bad player:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=10034&start=15

In this case, the drive was out of life, and he was replaced by another having the same properties.
I think that he is even on your laptop.

  • I use the 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 from the Satellite on the Qosmio?

    Hello

    I have 2 laptops Toshiba, Qosmio X 300 - 14U and Satellite T130 - 12 K, and my question is:
I use the 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 from the Satellite on the Qosmio?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi frakri,

What drivers tell you exactly? Display, chipset, sound, etc. ?

Theoretically, it should be possible, but it s according to the material. For example if your Qosmio has the same chipset as satellite you can use these drivers. Otherwise it wouldn't work because the hardware is different.
    First, check the features!

In addition, you can get all the drivers here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

  • Re: Where to find the drivers for satellite M40-110

I need the right updated drivers (especially since the update of the Bios) to M40 - 110, but the official site there are only drivers for M70 M100 &... WHY?
    I need the drivers now.

    Hello

There is a simple explanation, why you can't find the drivers for the Satellite M40 in the area of the laptop.
The old series of mobile have been moved to an area of ARCHIVE of the page of European driver of Toshiba.

So if you need the drivers, go to the ARCHIVES-> Satellite-> Satellite M Series-> Satellite M40

    ;)

    Hello

  • Suggestions for a new laptop - perhaps Satellite Pro L550-17U

Didn't know where to ask it is here in the General category.

I'm looking for a laptop replacement with some specificity. I can get most of them, but the last of them is difficult. If the requirements are:

17 "screen with a horizontal resolution at least 1600.
Minimum of 4 GB of RAM (8 would be nice)
    Running Windows 7 64-bit
    Bluetooth

    and finally, the duck:

    Supports Intel VT (Virtualization Technology)

I thought that the Satellite Pro L550-17U would be OK, but looking at the Intel site, it does not seem that T6570 processor supports VT and it must be supported in the BIOS even when, and nothing in the spec says that it will be.

Any person able to provide any help please? I would stay with Toshiba, as I had this high reliability of them, but would consider other fact (sorry Toshiba) if it is the only option.

    Roger

    Hello Roger

In my opinion the most important question is: how much you are willing to pay for the new laptop?
Satellite L is OK, but don't forget that the L-series is, in general, not the best model of Satellite.

What objectives do you need new notebook?

    Hello

    Satellite M40-231 is PSM40E.
This number you will find at the bottom of the unit. Check the label.

    Hello

Satellite M40 is a little older and so you should search in * Archives *.

    For example:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers
    * Archive * > Satellite > Satellite M Series > Satellite M40 (xxxx)

Then you select the right model number. If you n t he know to look on the underside of the laptop. There should be a label with the correct information.

    Hi Giorgi,

I think the latest BIOS for your M40 with ATI Radeon graphics card, it's the 1.70 version that is available in Windows and traditional format.

There is a version 2.00, but it's only for the M40 with Intel graphics card.

  • Satellite M40: Sonic RecordNow does not recognize the carpet * CD/DVD player

    Hello
I have a satellite M40. The software sonic recordnow (version 7.31) not found cd/dvd writer.
I check toshiba support and find a new update for Mat * a dvdram UJ 841 S. So I downloaded. But when I run it, an error message is displayed: "the target drive is not connected. How can I solve this problem?
The thng is my cd/dvd drive works well: I can play videos and music CDs. I can burn dvd with dvdx soft. BU I want sonic difficulty.
    Thank uou for your help.
    NAT

    Hello

The firmware update will NOT fix the problem of sonic!
The firmware has nothing to do with this problem the firmware contains details and more information about the supported and compatible CD/DVD.

I presume that some sound files or registry keys are corrupt and so the drive may not be recognized correctly by Sonic software.
I recommend reinstalling the software Sonic!

But why you don t use Nero burning program? In my opinion it of the best software for burning. I also use it and I'm very happy!

    You should try it

  • Satellite M40-300: is it possible to make a CD or a DVD for all facilities?

    Hello

    I bought a Satellite M40-300, it's a very good laptop
    I just have two questions:
is it possible to make a CD or DVD for all facilities
because I have two partitions. One for the window
and the other for a linux?

For Linux I want to install Red Hat Fedora Core 4 all devices are compatible or not? and where I can get driver for this?

    Thank you very much

PS: Sorry for my English I'm French.

    Hello

First of all there is no drivers for Linux because Toshiba doesn t supports the Linux operating system. All Toshiba units are shipped with the Microsoft Windows operating system.
I also work with Linux, but I use a different distribution. I use Knoppix because I n t need to install anything whatsoever on the HARD drive and I can use this Linux as other Linux distributions.

On a CD/DVD creation: do you know that Symantec Ghost?
This tool allows to create an image file or a CD/DVD image you OS. I don't know if it works with Linux, but as I suggested, you can use a Knoppix ;) m

  • Card reader for Satellite M40 updates

    Hello

I have a Satellite M40 and my SD card reader will not read the new SDHC memory card type. Are there drivers for this?

    Cheers foxy packard

It s not a limitation of the software (driver), but a physical limitation. The hardware's player card doesn t support this kind of maps and a driver update will not help!

Maybe you can buy an external card reader that supports SDHC memory cards.
These external card readers are not expensive and you can connect to the laptop's USB ports

  • Question about updating BIOS for my Satellite M40

So, my laptop does not start, but works recovery procedure. Support suggested me to update my Bios.
OK, given that the last time, it was easy.

    I downloaded the newsest version vor my Satellite M40 (PSM40) (1, 70 - WIN<= i="" have="" an="" ati="" grafics="" card)="" and="" extracted="" the="" bios-20070709161345.zip="">
    But there was a surprise:
Instead of getting the old data structure, as written in the FAQ update Bios
1 extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
    2. in the folder temporary three subfolders will be generated. "docs", 'Update - 3.5' disc', 'Update - CD - R or CD - RW"

I get a file only: BIOS of Windows Knockhill10GV170.exe
Extraction of it I get 8 files:
    -fdbase.img
    -InsydeFlash.exe
    -iscflash.dll
    -iscflash.vxd
    -KPM170. ROM
    -Platform.ini
    -The c:\windows\system32\unicows.dll

Now my question: How can I create this bootable CD-ROM to update my Bios?

Just to know: download all the other things are done on my desktop from my laptop is not starting ;)
I also tried to run the exe in the hope that it will create a floppy disk or a CD-ROM, but it is written "basic cfg address not found."

    Hello

Update the BIOS there are two ways to do this:
-Traditional mode (TRAD) and in this case, you need floppy
-Windows (WIN) and this update can be done under operating system running.

Update BIOS WIN will work if you run Windows on your laptop satellite. If I understand your assignment well you are trying to do traditional BIOS updated, but using the BIOS to WIN update. On the Toshiba download page, there are two listed BIOS updates and two of them as versions of WIN. This means that you can update the BIOS under operating system only.

Back to your problem: in the history one thing confuses me when you write: my laptop does not start, but works recovery procedure. Sorry, but if the recovery procedure is working and you will have clean installed OS.

Be a little more concrete in our laptop does not start. What happen exactly when you press the power button / stop?
