Re: Satellite A100-220 - 250 GB hard drive update

Bought the new 250 GB hard drive, but with it cant start System. The version of the BIOS is 1.80 I have to update so that it will support 250 GB? I think that's the problem because when I remove the hard drive from the system can start. Can you post the link to the download for a newer version of the BIOS if there is a previous hard drive was 40 GB?

Thank you

Hi andmk,

I doubt that your computer will start if you remove the HARD drive. If no HARD disk is installed the computer is not able to boot and start Windows because the disk HARD, the operating system is installed.

In any case, what exactly happens if you install the new HARD drive?
Is it recognised in BIOS?
Can you do a recovery on the new HARD drive installation?

  • Can satellite A100 - I put the HARD drive with 7200 RPM model?

    Hello

I have a Satellite A100-044, I would spend my the 120 GB HARD drive to a more large (250 GB or 320 GB).

A 7200 RPM would work on this subject? It seems Web compatibility sites they show 5400 RPM more, I would like to set up my laptop for recording/mastering so music wants a fast machine, I don't really mind if it consumes more energy...

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you
    Stone

    Hello!

Of course, you can swap the HARD drive with a model more fast using 7200 RPM. But as you say, it takes a little more energy. The new HARD drive should be a little faster, especially access time should be lower.

250 GB or 320 GB should be possible; you need a HARD drive with SATA interface.

    I hope I could help a bit.

  • Satellite A100-529 and new HARD drive

    I bought a new HARD drive: Samsung HM320JI (320 GB/SATA/5400 RPM / 8 M I)

    What should I do?
I formatted my new HDD using my desktop PC

I don't understand what you mean with these 60%. 60% of what?

In my opinion the new HARD drive should work fine with your Satellite A100.
As Alex has already written fair use facilities for the installation of the OS recovery disk and I think everything should be OK.

  • Problem of the Satellite A100-912 usb external HARD drive

    Please help guys!

I installed Win 7 32 bit on my laptop Satellite A100-912. Everything works perfectly in addition to having problem reading external usb HDD (disk appears in disk management, but are not accessible). These discs are not defective, because I use them on some other Pcs. Thumb drives are not a problem at all. Tried to use the self-powered USB hub but without success. Not sure if this is a related issue of Bios or a material limitation of this device. Thank you!

    > Everything works perfectly as well as having problem reading external usb HDD (disk appears in disk management, but are not accessible).

The HARD disk appears in disk management, but you see the additional HDD in my computer?

I don't know Mr. what could cause this and he s strange that you cannot access the USB HDD, even if it has been recognized correctly
Maybe you should try updating the chipset driver.
Chipset driver controls the ports of interface USB/so it of certainly worth a try

I updated the BIOS to version 1.9.
I tried also to install the updated RAID/AHCI drivers of intel to the windows installation, as recommended by the windows forums - I always get the same error message, even after several attempts to completely reinstall windows.

Several forums, I searched for recommended to change the settings of the HDD (RAID COSM) in the BIOS.

    Hello!

As far as I know the Satellite M70 was available with hard drives SATA and IDE hard drives. If you have a SATA HDD, you can use this HARD drive.

The Satellite M70 takes to load only SATA150 (SATA1) but this isn't a problem. All SATA2 HDDs runs SATA1 mode and are 100% compatible.

  • 160 GB hard drive update for Satellite Pro M70 - 220

I want to upgrade my satellite Pro M70-220 portable HARD drive the current 60 GB HDD to a 160 GB HARD drive and you drive would be grateful if someone could provide information on the standard/type of HARD drive I should like being looking for and, if possible, specific manufacturer's recommendations and the model number of an appropriate 160 GB of disk HARD.

    Thank you

    AlanCB

    Hello

The laptop uses a simple 2.5 SATA HDD.
It's not really important what the speed of the HARD drive is supported, but I recommend to use the 5400 RPM or faster 7200 RPM HARD drive

Generally all HARD drive size should be compatible because the SATA controller has no limitations.

  • Satellite M30 sees only 120 GB installed WD 250 GB HARD drive?

Recently my native HDD (on M30) crashed and I upgaded with Western Digital WD2500BEVE 250 GB. Disc.
But when I boot the sytem, it appears that only 120 GB is available!

Is it possible to use the laptop the full capacity of the HARD drive? Whow?

    Thank you!

    Hello

The fact is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported due to the limitation of HARD BIOS disk size.
Easy said: BIOS don't support all hard drives.

I've read many threads here in the forum about HARD drive sizes possible max and it seems that a 120 GB of HARD drive is wide that could be used in the Satellite M30.

You ask now for an update of the BIOS. Am I wrong?

Well, unfortunately, the update of the BIOS will not improve the situation and will not use the s larger HARD drive as 120 GB :(

  • Satellite 2410 won't see the new 250 GB hard drive

I am trying to upgrade the Toshiba 30 GB hard drive that came with the unit to a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 250 GB EIDE drive.
I get out the swap the 30 GB to 250 GB put in a bootable XP SP3 CD version and nothing - no sign that power came to training.
The CDROM is trying to write files on the hard disk, but nothing happens.

Same thing happens when I try to use the pack of 3 CD of Toshiba or the Norton Ghost recovery CD.
The computer does not see the drive. Put the old 30 GB drive and it starts right now.

My BIOS settings show set up for EIDE and boot from the CDROM. What I'm missing?

    Hello

It seems that the BIOS does not recognize the new HARD drive, I suppose that it s too big
Satellite 2410 series is old and I guess that it will not support larger 120 GB HARD drive because of the 28-bit LBA s

So try with the smallest HARD drive like 80 or 100 GB.

  • Satellite Pro P100 - replacing the HARD drive internal

I have a Satellite Pro P100 with a concert of 60 internal HDD and would like to replace this with a 250 or 320 GB drive.

Anyone can suggest a way to imagery of the current drive and copy this back to the new drive without having to re - install the operating system and other installed software?

I have a couple of USB 2.0 external drives with sufficient capacity.

    Hello

You first need to know if the more drive HARD 250 GB or 320 GB would be compatible and if the BIOS recognize this HARD drive without major worries!
The problem is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported by the BIOS.
Then all first check if the new HARD drive are supported!

You ask how to get all the files on the new disk? I recommend good reinstall the OS from the recovery CD. It would be to reinstall the OS, drivers, tools, utilities.
If you have other files such as mp3, etc it then backup to the external USB HDD.
Then you could connect this HARD drive to the laptop and could transfer it on the internal HARD disk.

  • Satellite C660 - need a new hard drive, but which?

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660-1f1 run windows 7 64-bit. 320GB hard drive there and I want to replace preferably with greater capacity, a but I'm not sure what would be appropriate.

    Anyone has any suggestions please?

    Hello

Satellite C660, but also other models of notebooks to new generation supports the SATA controller, which means that you need a HARD drive 2.5 SATA.
The size of the HARD disk is not relevant for the compatibility of the devices. This means that you can use HDD of 250 GB, 500GB etc.

But I wouldn't take a HARD drive for an upgrade. I would choose an SSD. This SSD drive is more expensive but believe me; It of certainly worth taking a SSD instead of HARD drive.
You will get great performance gain. This SSD drive is also very quiet.

Maybe it s best option for you
