Re: Satellite L640 - need to care about CPU upgrade

The question is simple: what are the specifications/model max CPU can I update in this laptop? Find any information on this line is a nightmare because most places don't know anything about my part number. It is not European or American.

I am in New Zealand. My exact part number is PSK0GA - 01 H 003. Satellite L640. Everything is stock factory parts aside from a new DC harness that is not totally related to that aside to show that I know what I'm doing when dismantling and replacement of parts in this laptop. I have no guarantee and am perfectly happy to do all the work and repairs on this myself at my own risk.

So I was online looking for the plug exact motherboard of this machine so I can see what I can put in level and what I can't. But I have found nothing that comes close to give me all of the actual characteristics. Is someone can you please tell me where I can find this information? I am wanting to CPU RAM and (if possible) the graphic information about replaceable chips. An i7 would be nice if I can run into that, but I'm not going to buy one and try it if it won't work in this machine.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Simple question simple answer: Toshiba doesn't support CPU updates so you will not be able to find some official specs about it. Better place o check it's Toshiba service provider in your country.

I mean, if anyone has any info on the equipment or upgrade Exchange and know-how is Toshiba service provider.
Because of specific and complex design cooling systems, these upgrades are deprecated.

    Hello

The L100 shipped with the Intel Celeron M (Dothan) 360 1.4 GHz FSB 400 CPU. Am I wrong?

You should check the chipset available! I think that it s an Intel 945 PM but I m not 100% sure.
On the Intel page, you should find the chipset specifications and might know what s CPU not the chipset supports.

The outlet plug is very important! A CPU with socket of evil cannot be installed on the Board! But to my knowledge, the l100 motherboard supports socket 478.

In any case, upgrading the CPU is not easy, very risky and NOT advisable. First of all, you will lose your warranty and then the laptop could run not stable due to overheating!

  • Satellite 3000 - X 4: Question about RAM upgrade

    Hi all

I'm looking for more information on how to upgrade the RAM for my SATELLITE S3000 - X 4 (120 MB RAM, 14 GB HD I think!). Here's a little history...

This laptop is about 5 years old, and I'm hoping to speed up a bit. I don't want to buy a new computer because she usually serves my needs.

I emptied my hard drive files and unwanted programs. And I ran Jv16 Power Tools to clean the registry and minimize starts the process.

It's always a little slow and if I am considering upgrading the RAM because I think I can do this for about £50. My questions are:

What type of upgrade RAM should I look to buy? (This laptop have 2 RAM "plug-ins" or just one?)
What is the size of RAM upgrade is the maximum an S3000 - X 4 could face?
Could a novice like me to adapt to the style DIY upgrade?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Gabrielle

    Hi Gabrielle

He is old enough. I looked for some info, but unfortunately I n t have not found much. The device can use the 512 MB of RAM, and you can use 2 sticks of memory. I'm not 100% sure but I think you can use the module with tracking number PA3086U - 1. 25 M.

The unit is not known to me but please check the underside. On most units, you can find coverage of memory.

To be clear: the upgrades of RAM and HARD drive are supported.
Update CPU is not supported due to several reasons. Check the lease - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

You must understand that the hardware update on mobile machinery is quite limited due to the special construction and cooling system. I put t know to what kind of operations, you use your laptop, but my A300 works perfectly with Win7 32 bit and has enough power for daily activity and all multimedia operations.

Upgrade of RAM maximum and be happy with it.

  • Can Satellite L300D 21 X receive a CPU upgrade - to dual-core?

I want to make my laptop more faster to use software for creating games.

    To do this, I need:

    (1) 2 GM RAM - which I know I can upgrade and does not seem to be a problem.

    (2) adequate graphic/video card

    (3) dual Core processor

    or

    (4) a new compatible motherboard

Is it possible and if yes, what parts are compatible, and can I do that I can't afford a new computer?

I search google for hours before coming here and there is really no conclusive answers out there anywhere that I can see.

    see you soon

    > Is - it possible and if yes, what parts are compatible, and can I do that I can't afford a new computer?

You can upgrade the RAM it would not be a big problem.
You should be able to update the RAM up to 8 GB (2 x 4 GB)
RAM DDR2 800 Mhz must be compatible.

Upgrading the graphics card is not possible.

The new update of motherboard? Well, first you must use the same motherboard made for L300/L300D series due to the layout.
Second in my opinion it is completely useless since the new motherboard is expensive and would cost between 250-350. Before you spend 300 for the new motherboard, I recommend buying the new notebook

Upgrade CPU? It is a question of the compatibility of the chipset
Since the laptop uses an AMD chipset, you can only use AMD processors.
The laptop seems to be equipped with an AMD Sempron for Notebooks - 40 2 GHz CPU
If you really want to upgrade the processor, you must use the CPU of the same family

But even if you want to use the new processor from the same family, there will always be a BIOS compatibility issue.

  • Qosmio G40-108: Question about CPU upgrade

Dear friends, I am an Italian man who asks if it is possible to change the CPU (T7700) of my Qosmio g40-108 with the new T9300 (like USA G45-AV690)

    All the best
    David

    Hi david

Please understand that mobile technology is completely different Office of PC technology and motherboards are all just different.
Upgrading the CPU's especially not possible or very risky for other reasons.

A main reason could be overheating; as you know the stronger CPU would produce more heat and this could lead to a higher temperature and finally to overheating...

In addition you BIOS was not configured for other processors so it possible s that your laptop does not start after such update!

    See you soon

  • Satellite L640 - clock stuck CPU idle time

Hi people, I have a Satellite L640 PSKOLA, with a processor i5 480M and am under Win7 64 bit, I have a "CPU usage" widget on the desktop, because clearly, I'm kinda a nerd. I first noticed this problem for a long time, but my usage has changed more things graphics lately and if it interferes with what I'm doing now.

The clock on the CPU freezes at 1173 MHz, this happens only after the machine has been for a while and will be rectified by doing a reset, after which the clock fortunately returns a maximum of 2667 MHz and the changing dynamic clock works as it should, and I enjoy my machine once more, until it happens again which could be any time, but it usually takes at least a couple of hours.

I hoped that would fix it, install the latest drivers but that didn't work, I reinstalled the version 2.3 BIOS update (the more recent on the toshiba site) and I installed it three times because I thought it might have been a glitch there.

    Any ideas?

    > On the CPU clock freezes at 1173 MHz, this only occurs after the machine sat for awhile

How did you test this? Have you tested this using the CPU on the desktop gadget?
Are you sure that this software works correctly? I think that no one should trust a single value provided by a program/utility.
Use of different tools which can give different results

However, the fact is that i5 480M processor supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology.

This technology allows the processor clock speed to be changed dynamically. This reduces to a minimum power draw and heat dissipation.
A processor running at a high clock speed allows better performance.
Using the same processor at a lower frequency (speed), it generates less heat and consumes less energy. This is controlled by the Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology.
I think this may be one of the reasons for this different CPU speed (perhaps the main reason).

Hi all, I am considering upgrading RAM on my * SATELLITE A100-667 * (PSAARE-02700DIT). Is anyone know the maximum amount of ram I can install it? What clock is supported? (553, 667...)

And what about CPU? The laptop comes with an Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66 GHz on Intel i945PM chipset.

Thanks in advance for any information.

    Hello

I think that you should also check your RAM upgrades for user manuals. As far as I know that you can upgrade your laptop with 4 GB of RAM. Therefore, you can use DDR2-533 modules. You buy from an authorized service provider or Kingston modules also recommendable.

Upgrading the CPU is not supported. BIOS and motherboard are tested only with the preinstalled CPU.
Also check similar discussions on this issue.

  • Satellite Pro L870-18R - no boot after upgrade CPU

    Hello

Bought the "SATELLITE PRO L870-18R" alongside a "Intel Core i7-3740QM 2.70 GHz FCPGA988 L3 6 MB 4 Cores CPU 2.70 GHz" to upgrade the processor and get a beautiful machine.

Boots of machine as expected with its stock i3, but white LED will blink once and no post when upgrading the processor is applied.
Is their a bios that will support this CPU, otherwise what is the max processor that toshiba will move to. Little bit discouraged, I can't upgrade.

Is their a bios that will support this CPU

BIOS updates are not released to allow new media of CPU, but the BIOS updates are released to fix possible problems for laptop...

If this is not the case, what is the max processor that toshiba will move to. Little bit discouraged, I can't upgrade.

Still is it that manufacturers of mobile phones do not support updates on own laptops... This means that there is no further information on the possible processors and supported.

However, a new processor usually requires a BIOS and chipsets support... so in case you want to make these updates (of course only at your own risk) then you will need to use a CPU that is supported by the Intel Chipset. But there is no guarantee that this notebook would functions even if you use a processor that would be supported by the chipset...

  • Re: Upgrade of the BIOS in a Toshiba Satellite L640

Hi all, how is life. I have a Toshiba Satellite L640 with LUbuntu 12.10. My BIOS is v 1.70. I think I should update, because the latest version is 2.70 and he could solve some battery problems.

The problem is that the bios upgrade software for the toshiba site is only for Windows. He is not yet back, in this case I could start from a USB Pendrive with FREEDos installed and do the upgrade.

Then, someone knows some way? I read you try to run the upgrade through wine application is not recommended. Also, I guess that it is not advisable to pass by VMWare, but I don't know about it.

Of course, I have no system to dual-boot, just Lubuntu Qantal.

    Thanks in advance

You are right. Toshiba offers WIN version only, so it cannot be used with Linux or by using the external device as BACK up to date.

What problems do you have with the battery?

  • Satellite C850 - 13 c turns off after upgrade CPU

    Hello

I have a Satellite C850 - 13 c with the b820 cpu celeron. I bought a core i5 2450 m to upgrade, but after I installed the new processor, the laptop turns off each time after 30 minutes exactly.

The problem happens also in bios mode. In the first 30 minutes, the laptop works perfectly but it just closed down without warning.

Aparently others had the same problem with this laptop model, even with a core i3 cpu upgrade.

    I've tried so far things:

-Ventilation control system - everything ok, temp is not above 40 ° c
-Updated bios updated to the latest version
-People with mobility reduced all the main functions of the cpu in the bios
    -The battery bios reset
-Tried with AC adapter only, only battery, same result.

This model just don't treat a larger cpu?
    Please help :(

So generally the CPU upgrade is not possible with this show you are yourself and any exchange of material is at your own risk only.

Problem is that Toshiba doesn't any info says on the upgrade of CPU and functionality with different processors. Thanks to a specific design, there is danger of overheating.
In your case, it is interesting that laptop off after exactly after 30 min.

Unfortunately I can't help you with this, but this case is very interesting announcement I will continue to follow the discussion. Let's see what other people will write about it.

  • Satellite L30-10 X - CPU Upgrade

    Hello

I have rather old laptop L30-10 X Satellite and I recently got Intel CPU T5300 and I wanted to replace Original Celeron M440 for newer processor.

I read a lot (even on this forum) that people were able to make these changes (and event to the top models such as T5500 and T5600).

But after I replaced the Celeron (SL9KW) with T5300 (SL9WE) computer laptop won't start, it just turn on the power led for about 5 seconds and then turn off completely (not same fan turns).

Is there anything that can be done to make this work of CPU?
I have 3.10 BIOS after failure of the attempt to run T5300, I went back to the old Celeron (and everything works fine with celeron).

The laptop does not start because the processor is not compatible.
I put t know exactly what your old laptop chipset supports, but I guess the new t isn't taken CPU supported by the chipset. Therefore, you must check the compatibility of the chipset before you begin with an exchange of CPU.

But to be honest I don t understand why you want to upgrade the CPU on this old notebook?
First updates are not officially supported. As you can see, the laptop could not start after such update and it's something that can be also related to the compatibility of the BIOS.

On the other hand; even if you would be able to upgrade the processor, you won't see an improvement in performance because the difference between the compatible processors is not big enough.

  • Satellite Pro L20-PSL25E - CPU upgrade question

    Hello

I upgraded the ram last year and im running high-performance for my model, 2.0 GB.

This really helped for awhile, but after a few heavy programs have been installed this year (only one software, one game) ive noticed it running slow as before, its worth noting that my computer has adopted all the necessary specifications for both outside the game where im working on 1.7 ghz and it needs the least 2.0 ghz processor , and I'm short on speed slowest peformance of the game itself.

The vehicle has currently a centrino pentium, keeping in mind a new portable computer is not in my budget, is it worth getting a new processor and which would be best?

    Thanks again, Rebecca.

    Hello

My personal opinion is that Satellite L20 is not designed for heavy operations and is certainly not game machine. If you compare the price of Satellite and Satellite L laptops you'll understand why. I'm sure that this laptop is designed for Internet, office and simple every day activities.

Upgrading RAM is very good and I'm sure it helps a lot but CPU upgrade is not the solution. Update CPU is not supported. You must also understand that each hardware platform is designed for optimal physical activity. Processor, graphics, cooling system and other hardware components must work without overheating and harmonic. Stronger CPU means more heat.

In my opinion you should optimize operating system preinstalled software hoping you use will work better and more stable.
