Re: Satellite Pro M70 - high utilization of the processor - low Performance

I sincerely hope that someone can help you. I do not consider myself really computer illiterate, but this is where my understanding ends and I really value any assistance.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro M70 for 2 years and I'm a final Defender to Toshiba. However, my operating system is slow. Average day use with Internet Explorer and Office 2007 is a laborious process that takes too much time. I have had conflicts with Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, that works perfectly.

But turn on the computer takes forever. The CPU usage is generally high and System Idle process as well. I reinstalled Windows XP from the Boot Toshiba DVD already 4 times to nine and install everything over and over again. Each time after all to speed once again, performance is disappointing.

I expanded RAM to 1.49 GB that makes little difference from the original 1/3 of RAM. It seems that something is slowing down the computer, but it is not visible in the process; but a certain process of svhost.exe who have the ability to handle little or the CPU usage.

I've used Windows Gold Certified Uniblue Power Suite with a good registry cleaner. This helps a little, but after a few days, it seems only make it worse. I have a processor Intel Pentium M 1.73 GHz. search online reveals that Trend Micro IS 2008 is pretty good and demanding little capacity compared to the competing security packages.

Is this system/software related or it could be a hardware problem?

Thanks in advance to all!

Hello

I doubt that it could be a hardware problem, I mean a CPU usage can get if a certain service or applications would be run in the background of the OS.

Generally, Antivirus applications are a kind of software that could cause this problem I had a Norton System works installed on my laptop and this software needs a lot of resources that slowed down the laptop
In addition, some applications of Toshiba which are installed and running in the background may affect performance. But these applications are required to be able to use all the features of the laptop

However, in msconfig you could disable.
Launch msconfig-> Startup tab and disable some processes that are not necessary for you.

In addition, you can use the CCleaner to clean the registry and operating system

  • MacBook Pro random high utilization of the processor (iCoreService/DCAManager using + 400% CPU?)

    Hello

I'm running an Early 2011 Macbook Pro running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 with a 2.2 GHZ Quad Core i7 processor 1 TB Samsung 840 EVO SSD and 16 GB of RAM Crucial. I noticed for about a month, I'm going to do a simple task or two on my Mac, then all of a sudden I noticed spikes CPU temporary, 90 + degrees C and the kick of fans trying to cool high speed. Well, I don't know why this is happening when I do nothing to justify a high utilization of the processor. I'm used to the CPU running hot when I do something intensive graphic as running Autodesk Inventor CAD software, run a machine virtual or even watch a 1080 p @ 60 fps video on youtube (it is the lowest resolution that requires the Mac switch to the dedicated AMD Radeon 6750 M GPU that usually eventually warm it quickly) , but this use high random that happens when I have Mail open in the background, and one tab open with a 720 p @ 30 fps video Youtube open (or even less). I took a few screenshots of the activity Manager indicating the best processes and Intel Power Gadget indicating the temperature of the CPU:

Does anyone know what are iCoreService and/or DCAManager and why they use so much of my CPU when this happens? And someone has encountered this weird behavior before? Thanks in advance!

The most likely cause is an applicztion you have running that is corrupt and forcing them to use the CPU too. Were you able to kill the process in activity monitor? If you have not yet tried to do, so I'll try that first. I would also try to quit all open applications.

If you start the computer in Safe Mode , you can test if the problem is still there. If it isn't, usually means something that is managed by you start-up or an application that you use may be the cause.

    Hello

Quite often get 'high 100% CPU usage' or "High use of the disc" message using IE9 or various other applications. Computer seems to work ok although slow do not very often. Scanned with Norton Internet Security 2011 and ok. Malware problem?

  • Leaks memory satellite L655 - 14 d, high utilization of the processor after Win 10 updated

    Hello world

    recently, I updated my Toshiba L655 - 14 d running on win7 Home premium 64-bit to win 10.

After that update system is memory leaks, high utilization of the processor and get stuck every 5 to 10 seconds, is a rhythmic problem happens while Starter upward.

If music is played nothing breaks and distortion, while using word or another office associated SW it became marked delay in the characters that appear on the screen, using the internet or live streaming is also not smooth.

Any suggestions to solve these problems?

It is advisable to change the RAM and upgrade to the new HARD drive (current RAM is 3GB 1066 MHz and is disc HARD 500 GB, ATI Radeon graphics card), if the change has advised if I want on the RAM even or I can go for a more of the same for the HARD drive also.

    Thanks in advance.

You may need to check if the problem could be related to some drivers installed (maybe GPU driver would need an update) or 3rd party software.
Background running processes in the context of the system could block the CPU, and this could slow down the performance of the system...
So a quick glance in the task manager can be useful.

Of course, upgrade of RAM can be useful too... If you run Win 64 bit system, upgrade of RAM is recommended.
The 32-bit OS can handle only 3.2 GB RAM... so in this case the RAM upgrade would be useless.

With regard to upgrading the HARD drive:
The SATA controller is able to manage any size of HARD drive, but to be honest, this will not increase the performance of the laptop... But change from HDD to SSD drive would increase the performance of the system... so I recommend you replace the HARD drive with SSD drive.

  • high utilization of the processor in standby mode / x 230

    Hi all

I have an i5 x 230, win8 installed pro on an ssd crucial msata m4, 16 GB of ram. Recently, I noticed a sharp decline in the life of the battery. I believe that this is due to the high utilization of the processor when idle, I see it in the Manager of tasks and shows the process system hovering over 30% cpu usage. It goes down when I restart, but just on the rise after some time, perhaps on his return from his sleep.

Does anyone have any idea on this? I tried to get a little knowledge base, but nothing came.

While we are aware of the problem, there is little we can do about it.  The modern realities of security of the web browsers have made sandbox, a necessity.

There is a good explanation of what is happening here: http://blogs.adobe.com/asset/2012/06/inside-flash-player-protected-mode-for-firefox.html

Long story short, every video packet must be transmitted from the browser to a medium integrity process broker, then the integrity process low drive flash for rendering.  If an attacker is able to hijack the thread of Flash Player, the process is low integrity, which prevents the attacker to do a lot with it.  While it is not an absolute guarantee (nothing security is), it raises the bar significantly for the attackers.

The downside is that all this additional message passing consumes cycles CPU, especially if you are trying to fill a buffer of exceptional size as soon as possible.  There's not a lot of opportunity to optimize this.

If you're fine with the risk, you can manually disable ProtectedMode on your machine.  If you deal only with trusted sites, and you do not have anything critical with the machine (work, banking, etc.), then it is probably not a huge deal.

Finally, ProtectedMode is like a vaccine - it's one thing to immunity.  If the majority of people run it, exploits targeting machines without that it does not conform and probably not merit to be pursued when you look at the effort involved in the development of a feat of end-to-end.  If a large number of people turn it off, it becomes economically attractive for builders of networks of zombie computers, and you will have problems if you do not use.

To disable the Protected Mode, add the following line to your mms.cfg file located in:

    32-bit Windows: C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash

    64-bit Windows: C:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash

    ProtectedMode=0

If the mms.cfg file does not exist, create one to any text editor standard (p. ex. Notepad)

Depending on your operating system, you must first save the mms.cfg file in a directory writable (for example, your document or desktop folder), and then copy the file into the folder using Windows Explorer.

To re - enable Protected Mode, simply delete the line in the mms.cfg file.

  • In obtaining Windows XP SP3 notice of high utilization of the processor, but do not know the cause

I keep having problems with high CPU usage, but I don't know what is the cause. I know Norton has sent me a few messages on dumprep.exe high utilization of the processor, but this isn't the only time where she do this and it is causing my computer runs slowly, and a few times the last 2 days that makes my strongest computer. I hope someone can help because I don't know anything about all this

    Hi SandieLaster,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. When was the last time it was working fine?
    3. When the high CPU usage occurs?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See section to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

    Hei,

I have problem with backlight in my laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro M70-275). I think that the problem will be solved completely if I find where is the button of the cover.

I hope someone can help and guide me to the location of the switch.

    Hello

Are you sure that the problem is the lid switch? Normally if the backlight doesn t work on the screen inverter FL needs to be replaced.
What happens if you connect an external monitor to the laptop? You see an image?

The FL switch is normally placed under the cover of the display. It s a little trickier to Exchange because it is necessary to remove the plastic cover of the screen.
Maybe you should ask a technician for laptop to help.

  • Satellite Pro M70-275 slower than the Satellite M70-110?

    Hello

A couple of weeks ago, I bought a portable Satellite M70-110, with Centrino 1.7 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM. Last week, this computer got stolen from my apartment. (Damn them thieves low-life..)
I wanted to buy exactly the same model again, but he could not find anywhere. Instead, I bought a Satellite Pro M70-275 because he seems to be pretty much the same thing, with a great 2 GHz. processor, it's going to be a little faster then, I thought.
The problem is that it feels like the new is slower; I don't understand why. No more slow, as when you are working with graphics heavy, cause I don't have, but slower at startup, when this regime between programs and so on.

The old used XP Home Edition, the new one XP Pro. This could be the problem; XP Pro requires more RAM?

The old man had an ATI Radeon x 700, the new a x600se, but I can't imagine that this could make a difference with the applications that I am running.
I use a Soundblaster PCIMCA card in the new. This could be a problem?

    Any ideas appreciated!

The devices are all compatible. Service pack 2 is installed, and all the hardware drivers on the toshiba have been updated... again, same problem.
The toshiba is about 2 months old and have had this problem since I got it. First I thought it was the drvers, but I cleared of all (?) other options but the USB ports.

    Hello

Believe me, that's not easy to say what the problem may be. It is important to see if the problem occurs because of hardware or software may be. I recommend you to backup all your data and reinstall the unit using rescue media. On this way the unit will be factory settings and will be clean preinstalled. Test your USB devices and see what happens.

Try to use some standard like USB stick or external HARD disk parts, because in this case, you must not install any drivers please. If you use other devices like USB webcam with own software and drivers, it is possible that something goes wrong, but what. On this path, it is not possible to say.

You cannot use it with an application of part 3 as ITunes.

  • Satellite Pro M70-273: feature of the Express Media Player feature

Two weeks ago, I bought a Pro Satellite Toshiba M70-273 'Limited Edition' (?). The model number is PSM76E-00J00QDU, SPM76, model name, production date 2006-02-21. According to the specs I found in the online user manual or in a folder with the publication references
    «TEG October 2005, art.» N0. DSSSPM70 10/05NLBE', there is a 'Express media feature' 'on some selected models "...

It is not clear if yes or no, the model that I bought it. I have an of CD/DVD "button that I use to run my built-in dvd player (WinDVD for example), but it does not work as it appears as 'a disc standalone player' who plays a dvd (movie) without the need of Windows startup.

To watch the movie on dvd, after using the CD/DVD button, I start in Windows, the connection in Windows XP, and the office at startup, the WinDVD screen presents the film.

This isn't what I expect from a stand-alone dvd player. My old laptop has a 'dj function' with which you can play a cd without booting in Windows (or turning on the laptop), simply by pressing a special button on the front. What about the promised feature of the Toshiba Satellite Pro?

Is there a feature "Express Media Player" at all? How can I check if the function is provided? I used the provided configuration, the first time I used my laptop. I don't want to use the recovery CD provided unless it would be absolutely necessary to install this missing functionality.

    Hello

Yes. Some Toshiba models use a player Qosmio (Qosmio units) and some computers laptop Toshiba supports also the Media Express Player.

I downloaded the user manual of the Satellite Pro M70 and it seems that some laptop computers in this series come with the express media player. But unfortunately the Media Express drive was not installed and delivered with this laptop.
