Re: Tecra 8000 and module MPEG PA2834U

Hello
I would like to see on my old Tecra 8000 PII 300 DVD movies. I bought a DVD player, but the movies are restless. I know a hardware MPEG decoder (PA2834U) which can be installed as an option module option.
This module can be installed on my Tecra? Is the model number: PAT800E-B943IT, originally, it came with a CD-ROM drive.
Thank you in advance,
Massimo - Italy

Hello
I have a Tecra 8000 PII 400.
The PCI card (which is actually a 'C-Cube Microsystems Cinemaster C 3.0 DVD Decoder (rev 02)') works fine with W2k.
On linux, I don't have the drivers to make it work (but I use xine player for watching movies, which is fine with the 400 MHz processor).

    Hi all

I recently asked to watch Tecra 8000 a friends (PII 233) and give it a bit of an update... Don't know why the most I've ever done, is to add a few small components in my PC at home!

My question is - is this possible for a connection broadband to be put in place - I looked all over the laptop, but don't find nothing which would suggest it is possible.
(Also what other improvements should be can) watching us.

Sorry for the noobness, but any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Ben

Wow this is really an oldie
Broadband do you mean the LAN port?

As far as I know that the Tecra 8000 was not equipped with LAN port.
It s really amazing but it is a fact

However, if you want to use LAN then I advise you to buy a PCMCIA (Cardbus 32-bit) LAN card that would be allows to connect the Tecra 8000 to LAN.

    See you soon

  • Tecra 8000: Display driver

Hi all, I hope someone can help with my problem. I have a Tecra 8000 and just reformat and installed Windows 98 Second edition, the problem is that I have a small window in the middle of the screen with a black border completely round. I don't have the original disks that came with it and said that I need to install the display driver, as I can change the resolution, is does anyone know where I can download this driver from, or can someone provide me with it. I tried the download from toshiba site, but its not available.
I also tried to change the resolution, but because there is only the installed base driver I can't change it. If anyone can help.
    Thank you

    Hello Mick

The problem is that this device is not supported for W98SE and that is a reason why you can not find a driver on the Toshiba site. The graphics card in your unit is NeoMagic NM2200 (MagicMedia 256av).

Please check on the net if you can find a driver on the site of producer of graphics card. There is no guarantee that it will work, but I'm sure that there should be no problem. Please also check the BIOS settings if there is an option called display stretching or something like that. If so he set to active.

  • Tecra 8000 does not recognizing PCMCIA

Ive been using my XP loaded Tecra 8000 and connected to the internet via a wireless system using the USB port. It continues to lose signal, Ive just bought an Edimax Cardbus Fast Ethernet PC Card. It fits in the PCMCIA slot and gives me a RJ45 connection directly to the router. The problem is that I mounted the card in the Bay, but it was not recognized by XP. Should I change the bios for the PC to recognize this new material?
    Thank you very much
    Rob

    Hello

I guess you need the driver.
Have you installed all the drivers and got all the drivers with this card?

    So note to check this site for card manufacturers;
    http://www.Edimax.com/

    You will find all drivers

  • Tecra 8000: W2K - how to operate the 2 screens at the same time

I have a tecra 8000 with win 2000 pro is installed.

Everything works fine with one exception...
Press the [fn] [f5] keys to use the device outside.

Is there a way I can get it to run 2 screens at the same time (either cloned or, preferably tv being a secondary monitor)?

If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful

    Thank you

I'm not familiar with the Tecra 8000 and W2K operating system. If there I sno good driver on Toshiba download page (I assume W2K is not supported for this model of laptop), please try to find the driver somewhere on the net. I found some info your unit has NeoMagic NM2200 (MagicMedia 256av) video card.

To use an external monitor as a second monitor, or extended display just try to use the Windows settings in display properties.

  • Tecra 8000: Lack of OS, how to install

I have this old Tecra 8000, and he had Win ME above. I used a software called drive to kill, and after reboot I get "missing OS".

I have a bootable CD with a (legal) copy of XP Pro top. But nothing happens when I insert the CD, it runs for a while, but "lack of OS" message remains. I tried to restart with the CD inserted, but nothing other than the message.

It is and old comp but I still feel like it's running, there is no mechanical failure, then... any help much appreciated.

    Hi Yavis,

Check in your BIOS that the boot order specifies the CD first, followed by the hard drive. Otherwise, press the F12 key during the boot process, and this should give you the boot device selection menu where you can specify your CD-ROM as boot device.

    Kind regards

    Hello

If you don t have delivered the recovery CD, you must use the full version of Microsoft CD and install the operating system. After installing all the necessary drivers, tools and utilities that you can find on Toshiba download page.

  • Tecra 8000: Desk Station V + chipset/HDD on Debian Linux?

    Hello!

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 and a desk Station V, currently under Debian Linux.
The HARD drive I have in my docking station is functional, but very slow (and I know that's not the drive itself, it works very well in another computer). I can't seem to activate the DMA ("' HDIO_SET_DMA failed: operation not permitted", is it still possible for hard disks anchored? "), but it works with one internal.

The HD internal (had) gets pretty decent speeds, but externally (hde) works at a snail's pace:

    Ulmo: / etc # hdparm-t/dev/hda
    / dev/hda:
Calendar of the disc in the buffer reads: 14 MB to 4.94 seconds = 2.83 MB / sec

    Ulmo: / etc # hdparm t/dev/hde
    / dev/hde:
Calendar reads disc in the buffer: 2 MB in 3.92 seconds = 522,50 kB / sec

Any suggestions? A fact, anyone know if the Desk Station V requires any configuration of chipset/IDE controller or support?

    Thanks for any help whatsoever.

    Hello

As much as I know the Station V Plus office devoted additional features to Enhanced Port Replicator II as follows:
a PCI/ISA bus and a bus PCI expansion slots, a Bay 5 inches.
a selectable Bay and a built-in SCSI-2 (Small Computer System Interface) controller.
I also found information on the net that the Desk Station V plus supports also only the UDMA2.

Well, I think that the internal interface for laptop is a bit faster than the DSV.

  • Need help installing a Tecra 8000 wireless

I just bought the wife an old laptop tecra 8000 and like to run wifi on it, I bought a d-link router and a d-link usb adapter, but he said I would impose a usb high speed and it n, t, raise the router a pcmia card would work better, also can anyone suggest a modem/router and card that works on it, any help is appreciated...

    Hello

The Tecra 8000 supports only USB 1.1 standard.
Are high speed USB 2.0 ports
Many USB devices are designed only for USB 2.0 and I guess that your USB WLan adapter also supports the 2.0 standard.

The PCMCIA should work better. There is no standard limitations as on the USB ports.

  • Upgrade RAM and disk on Tecra 8000

    I have a toshiba tecra 8000 p2 266 mhz, 64 MB, 6 GB HD.

My question is I want to upgrade the ram and hard drive. can someone tell me what is the maximum I can put in my laptop. IM aiming for a 256 RAM and 40 GB HARD drive... I want to upgrade the processor, but I don't think it would be possible. If Yes please let me know what is the maximum.

    Thank you guys

    Hello

I found information that your device can handle with max 256 MB and compatible module unit Pentium II are:
    PA2060U 32 MB
    PA2061U 64 MB
    PA2062U 128 MB

For user who have the Pentium III unit I'll also post this compatible module are:
    PC100 128 MB (PA3005U)
    PC100 64 MB (PA3004U)
    PC100 32 MB (PA3003U)

HARD drive upgrade is always a little more problematic because of the maximum capacity that will be recognized correctly, but I assume you can use up to 20 GB of HARD disk without problem.
Sorry, but I didn? t find accurate information about it.

    Good bye

  • Tecra 8000: monitor and the HARD disk does not work - does not start

I have a laptop Toshiba Tecra 8000 given to me the year last by my uncle. I live in England, but it is and bought the PC in Italy. I do not know if this causes complications, but I thought it may be useful.

Since I got it it occasionally did not display any image of all system startup, so if I have given some time and restarted it would start working again. Happening of bagan more frequently and now I can't make it work. I have conections and found that everything was in place. Then he doesn't seem to be turning on, however when I replaced the front LED cable seems to be turning on and although I couldn't hear much the CPU was luminous heat. I opened the drive and it gave once more, succeeded him and he still wouldn't start. I had purchased and replaced the screws on the heatsink around this area but I did not handle it with many other things.

So now, I have a monitor that does not work and a gard drive that won't start... Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Could be either the card mother, CPU or ram. The processor when it goes bad or is not locked in place (have had this before, install the CPU but forgot to turn the lock, so he cannot move) the computer will act as its startup, don't give any error and stay on a black screen. Verify that the processor is locked in place. Then remove the ram and try a stick of RAM that runs on another computer. If you try the RAM and the processor do not always start, then chances are your motherboard is dead and must be replaced. Hope this helps and that solve you the problem.

  • Tecra 8000: Question on the HARD disk and the password

    Hi all
A market recently my son bought an old laptop Toshiba T8000.

Personally, I have absolutely no knowledge of the laptop myself as a desktop is everything I've ever used.
However, I recharged the battery and the power, it asks for a password, even if what I believe to be the HD is missing (Vacant housing, left under the keyboard and behind the battery)

Our local store offers him an incredible £121 a new HD

HA wasted his pocket money on it or can he get a password and the HD at reasonable price to fit?

    Any help is greatly welcomed.

    BREZ.

    Hello

Especially the password appears at the beginning of the startup procedure because the BIOS password has been set.
Unfortunately, you cannot delete or remove the BIOS password if the old password of BIOS is not known to you. Either contact you the person who sells you the device and ask for the password or you will contact the service partner in your country for a deletion.

    I guess that's a Tecra 8000 with the number PAT80XE.
This unit is a little older and so I think that hard drives are rare, a little so more expensive.
By the way: the device supports an EIDE HARD disk interface

  • Tecra 8000, linux & ethernet & pnp

    Hello

I am trying to install Linux on a Toshiba Tecra 8000. The problem is with a chipset Realtek ethernet PCMCIA card (module: 8139too), which is recognized, but the network is unusable. I always get an error of SIOCSFFLAGS and assigned interruption is 0, which means that it has failed. I have read many times that I have to disable plug-and-play, but there is no choice when I start with a floppy and run the TSETUP. EXE. Y at - it an alternative to this? Do you have any other clues?
