"Re: Toshiba M10: replacement 7 k 200 with Advanced Format HARD drive" 7 K 750 HDD

Can we see problems with the replacement of the original Hitachi TravelStar 7 K 200 (200 GB) HDD, that went into my two year old Toshiba Tecra M10 - 11 X, with a so-called 'Advanced Format' 7 K 750 (750 GB or maybe 640 GB) hard drive?

Like the original, I want to dual-boot the new disk using three partitions:
* Windows 7 32-bit
* Data
* Windows XP
and would probably clone one disk to another (by increasing the size of the partition!) with the v5 of Macrium Reflect.

I read up on top of the TravelStar 7 K 750 form, the alignment tool from Hitachi, Microsoft KnowledgeBase article 982018 "an update that improves the compatibility of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 with the Advanced Format drives is available" Bit-tech http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/sto...t-hard-disks/1and so forth, but wonder if anyone has actually replaced the HDD with all original Advanced Format drives and could therefore have a certain experience to share?

Thank you!

Hello

"I put t have experience using this advanced Format ' 7 K 750 HARD drive but in my opinion he should not a problem using this HARD drive.
The laptop supports the SATA interface and if this HARD drive would also support the SATA controller, the HARD drive should be recognized too

But of course, it is my personal opinion...

    Hello:

I want to clone the HARD drive in my system via a USB to SATA Adapter for an identical external HARD drive - this record could then be used to get back in the quick business failure of internal drive. Internal and external drives are the types of advanced Format.  The drive is: HGST HTS541010A9E680. I see the 4 areas of native k when the disk is connecetd via a USB adapter?  So far, my older USB/SATA Adapter shows the areas 4096 bytes, not he emulated disk 512 byte sectors.

    Thank you

    Hi @teranz

    Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately the adapters can be hit or miss, not always reliable. You could talk to the manufacturer of the adapter for advice.

Regarding booting from a USB key, it looks like you want to install the OS on a USB device. It is possible with some advanced configuration, but it is out of the reach of these forums. You may find help by searching for «portable Windows installation»

  • Windows 7 recovery with advanced format failed drive without SP1

I have a dv6-2150us and the hard drive has failed.  I bought a new drive and ran the recovery disks.  Unfortunately a lot of features does not work on a disc format in Windows 7 without SP1.  The main feature is that Windows update doesn't stop me from upgrading to SP1.  I've tried a lot of difficulties to Windows update and downloaded SP1 from the Microsoft site, but all fail to install because update does not work.

Any advice?  I tried to install an ISO cool Windows 7 SP1 which works fine, but I'd rather not pay for an OS that I already own.  My windows license key does not work with Windows 7 SP1 install.

    dv6guy,

There the HP recovery discs actually failed to install? The recovered installation fails to boot completely or correctly. Or installation retrieved not only has risks with Windows Update or other software?

If the recovery is complete, and you can enter Windows please try to use ABR Beta with Windows 7 Support to save the installed HP OEM SLP keys and certificate of HP OEM SLP. Once you have these, save the complete record of ABR to an external location, such as a USB key. Then, install Windows 7 SP1 to your ISO fresh. Do not enter a product key when asked and do not allow any Windows try to activate the computer. Now, restore the key and the certificate to your new installation of Windows 7 SP1. Verify that Windows is activated. Post back and let us know if it succeeded or failed

  • Satellite U840W - replacement SSD with current hybrid HARD drive

I have this model U840W with a hybrid HARD drive (500 GB + 32 GB SSD cache), I would like to replace it with an mSATA SSD. My warranty is left about 2 months... I understand that if I open the bottom cover, the guarantee may be cancelled.

What I don't understand is the "live in the mid under foot rubber", what is the best way to remove it? This seems to be the real challenge. A directive (preferably with photos)?

    Thanks in adv!

    Hello

I wouldn't recommend allows you to replace the hybrid HARD drive on your own even if hand warranty isn't valid anymore.
    Why?
Because the after replacing a drive HARD or SSD, RAID and TSRI (quick start of Intel technology) mode will not be available.

To rebuild the factory RAID mode and allow the TSRI, special tools are needed and this can be done by the authorized Toshiba maintainer.

So even if you would be able to remove the bottom cover and hybrids of HARD drive, the new inserted SSD would not be able to achieve the best performance.

Please help me to get my windows genuine 8 back so I could get additional updates downloaded.

    Hello Vishal,

Welcome to the Microsoft community. I appreciate your efforts to resolve the issue. I will certainly help you with the problem you are experiencing.

If you purchased a computer with installed OEM Windows 8 on it, there could be a sticker on the Tower, or in the back (in the case of a laptop) with the product key to this topic. If there is no sticker, he can be preinstalled on your system BIOS.

  • SMU 8108 does not start with the new hard drive

    Hello

    I am currently using SMU 8108 with SMU-1062 q.

The previous record was borken, so I had to install a new hard drive.

The new hard drive is fommatted as NTFS format, and it is currently mounted on 8108.

Unfortunately, I don't have recovery disk available to the general public so I am trying to install Windows 7 on a blank hard drive.

When you start, the LED OK PWK light is all the time, orange DRIVE LED turns on for a few seconds only when I turn on the switch.

LabVIEW RT switches are all off, I cleared CMOS several times to the Board of Directors, but the screen does not show anything.

I tried to use my DVI monitor with any other device as well, and it worked, so there is no problem with the monitor.

In addition, I tried to go in window safe mode by pressing F8 or Del it didn't work, so I can't see anything on the screen when his kick upward.

I tried to put a lot of information I can it will be very appreciated if you can help me with this problem please.

You said that you can't in Windows safe mode, you have installed Windows on the hard drive?  Are you able to get into the BIOS of the controller?

If you are not able to access the BIOS for the controller, it may be due to bad RAM.  If you are uncomfortable installing RAM and you have a few extra laptop RAM of the same type (I think it's the DDR3 for your controller) laying around, you can try to replace the RAM.

Was your hard drive damaged through certain events, or it just stop working?

  • Replace a damaged by a larger, faster hard drive.

I have a laptop CQ62-306AU Presario with a damaged hard drive that still worked somehow in safe mode. The vehicle currently has a HD SATA 320 5200 I want to replace it with a 750Go drive 7200.

The repair manual says it will support a HDD of 750 GB 5200, but also the only HD 320 GB it supports is a 7200 while my current HD is a 5200. A little confusing.

Does anyone have any idea if it will support my preferred 750Go 7200 disk?

    Hello

I don't think that we also have 5200 TR / MIN, yes you can use 7200 RPM HARD drive, it is a little faster than 5400 RPM. More CACHE will be better but more expensive.

    Kind regards.

I have an Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830 t-68U118.  The original hard drive died, so I replaced it with a new hard drive.  I loaded Windows 7 x 64 and loaded the chipset drivers and the network drivers.  The laptop is always my bluetooth equipment (even if I loaded the drivers Atheros).  Does anyone else have this problem?  How can I get the bluetooth to work?

It would probably depend on the status of the warranty of the system.

This device was shipped with 20 GB HARD drive.
    You again is 40 GB.
I guess that the BIOS does not recognize the HARD drive because of the size.
