Re: Transfer of the product keys...

I have several cases of computer in my possession that have Windows XP product codes attached to them. I was reading online and I read that it is illegal for to use me these codes to another computer, and that they can only be used with the computer (specifically, the motherboard) the code provided with. Now, with two of these cases, the motherboards of two of them are ransacked (it does not work, the other has been torn out) and the hard drives at the same time have been reformatted, leaving nothing on them. What can I use these codes on then? If I put a motherboard (used) in one case, can I use this code on this motherboard? What can I do? I want to be able to legally use Windows XP... but it's looking for dark.

You have the right to possession of the product keys, installation/installation disc. They are valid keys, if the computer that uses fails you can use it with a different Installer. What is illegal distributes keys for multiple users to use.

Not quite true. If the key is OEM key is bound to always to the first computer that it is installed on... that's why OEM is considerably cheaper than retail... If you find my answer helpful, please click the button "Vote as helpful"! Thank you! My Blog

  • Can I transfer the product key Windows 7 my computer died for my new build?

    Hi all

After my computer died last month, I've built a replacement and tried to install the same copy of Windows 7 that I used on the old computer (now recycled). Installation went well and Windows 7 works, but I keep getting the message "Activation required". The product key that I received by email confirmation is no longer works. I now buy another copy of Windows 7?

I might have to call Microsoft to fix this problem? If so, could someone please provide a phone number that is not the automatic activation number? I feel I have to talk to someone to explain this problem. I can only find the General activation FAQ on the Microsoft Windows 7 activation page and no contact phone number.

    Thank you in advance,

    Paul

No, you don't need to buy a new key. Simply activate your Windows by phone. "A programmer is just a tool that converts the caffeine in code" Deputy CLIP - http://www.winvistaside.de/

    * Original title: get the product key

I try to upgrade my old vista laptop to win7, but don't remember the product key for my computer compaq laptop. How can I get this key?

    Hello

Your question is not very clear to understand.

If Vista is preinstalled on your laptop, this product key is NOT for Windows 7.

There is a free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 years, but that offer expired for a long time.

How does the Windows 7 upgrade Option?

The Windows 7 upgrade Option is available through participating PC manufacturers on some PC and Microsoft on any purchase of packaged product Windows Vista. The Windows 7 upgrade Option applies to Windows Vista Home Premium, Business and Ultimate editions. Your Windows 7 update will be the comparable version: so you will get either Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional (upgrade to Windows Vista Business) or Windows 7 Ultimate, respectively. The Option of upgrade Windows 7 program runs from June 26, 2009 through January 31, 2010. Some manufacturers may choose to shorten the time of upgrade Option.

Microsoft sells more than Windows 7, but it does NOT come for free.

    Try Amazon.com, etc.

And if you ask to transfer the license of Windows 7 from a mobile to another laptop:

You tell us what type of license you have.

If the laptop came with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key supplied with the laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.

The above applies also to OEM system builders licenses.

License of operating system in detail, that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

I have Windows 7 Professional.  Used it on my PC and then I had to buy a new Dell computer, as my old PC blew the motherboard.  The new Dell came with 8.1 if I want to install 7 on my wife's computer, as it did in Win98.   When I did this it called my disabled factory or pirated disk.   How can I take my PC off the product key and got my other PC for its use?

If Windows 7 Professional is pre-installed on your Dell computer, it cannot be transferred. If it is a license purchased at a retail store, he transfer rights.

  • I bought 7 retail to upgrade to Vista and have since upgraded to 10. The product key is coming as invalid

I have an old laptop that I am trying to set up for my daughter. It had XP on it and I have a physical disc of Windows 7 I have installed on it. I bought 7 retail to upgrade to Vista and have since upgraded to 10. The product key is coming as invalid. I thought that I could use it again since I upgraded from 7 to 10. Is the product key invalid, because I already used it once even if I'm not on 7? Can I buy just a key somewhere or I have to buy a new copy of 7 again? It installed fine that I just can't turn it on. Thank you.

    OT:

    Windows 7 product key

Because the free update of Windows 10 used the license to the retail of Windows 7 as an eligible basic license, you cannot transfer it elsewhere or you reuse.

You will need to purchase a new license of Windows 7 or buy a license for version full Windows 10.

My recommendation to waive the license of Windows 7, I would buy a full version license Windows 10.

Once you do this, you can just update the values of product key for your system runs Windows 10, and then reactivate the license of Windows 7 by phone.
