  In the traditional method of quotations, we use the concatenation (|) operator to separate the column names whose values are retrieved dynamically from the table queried.

  The concatenation operator. works the same with any string expression.

  x | There

  Returns a string that is the same as sting followed immediately the string x y, x is

  • a literal string with Q before the first single quote
  • a literal string without Q
  • a VARCHAR2 column
  • a function that returns a string, or
  • any string expression.

  The string can be everything above, too.

  If you concatenate strings of 3 or more, like this

  str1. str2. ... || Suro

  then each of the STRS can be any kind of expression, independent of others.

  If you want to concatenate strings of 3, the 1st and the 3rd being Q-literals and the 2nd being a column, you can do it like this:

  I use EncryptedLocalStore to store the user's preferences, but it uses iOS keychain and causes data to persist on the device iOS via an app removal & install.  This is no good, since I'm store preferences that is a little more appropriate for the use of the keyring.  AND I want the app data deleted off the unit once the application is deleted/uninstalled.

  Any ideas?

  Shared local objects if you want to have your prefs in the form of key/value pairs. or by using E4X with readObject and writeObject file API if you want to have your prefs in XML format.

  I have an application that uses the Direct persistence layer. I have a field that will be a small number of statically defined fields that will never change without a major code release (currently 8 possible values). What is the best practice to define this field?
  
  In the relational world, I would create a table of correspondence with 8 fields, insert the valid values via the installation script and then use the foreign key index to apply the relationship. I might even be tempted to set a constraint.
  In the Java world, I would simply define an enum.
  
  In the DPL, there is currently no support for the enum. I could create a table of choice and foreign key in BDB, but I really don't want to set a table to store the values of 8, if there is a reasonable alternative. Also, I don't be questioning this field, then the @SecondaryKey would like to add a performance and substantial storage penalty.

  Hi Steven,

  Enums are supported in the DPL for key fields. You have nothing special to do - the Enum class must not be annotated.

  Enums are currently not supported as key, because we did not understand how the evolution of sorting and the class should work.

  The doc which is authoritative for what can be persistent is in the javadoc of the entity and the javadoc PrimaryKey lists types may be used for the keys.

  What is the best format in terms of better sound quality for an import CD, regardless of the size of the file, just a pure sound quality?

  The goal is to save my music library CD and vinyl in a computer/drive and listening using a computer connected to a sound system 'Stereo' (not ' Surround', regular stereo) with speakers high quality stereo (L + R).

  So far, I've downloaded using a 320 kbps MP3 format. Listening to a CD quality is very poor.

  I use iTunes 10.7.x (as well as iTunes 12.x on a newer platform, but imports of CD I use version 10.7)

  All parameters are the following:

  Any lossless format will offer the best audio quality.  The available choices:

  • WAV is probably the most widely supported but it lacks the ability to incorporate metadata or illustrations, so while you can move the audio between different systems files as soon as you go outside iTunes you will lose all the artist / album / song information.
  • Apple Lossless (ALAC) is definitely the best choice in iTunes - he has the same metadata / support work such as MP3 or AAC and supports full 16/44.1 audio with file sizes about 65% of the equivalent WAV file
  • AIFF is very similar to the ALAC, except that (in the Variant used by iTunes), there is no lossless compression, so the file size will be larger

  The determining factor here will be where you intend to use the files - many other readers take in charge of the three options mentioned above, either natively or (for the ALAC and AIFF) using the appropriate plugins.  Unfortunately the lossless codec which has the broad support of all (FLAC) is not supported by iTunes.  There are, however, many utilities out there that can convert between ALAC and FLAC (and vice versa) if that proves necessary.

  RXE files are generated by the LEGO MINDSTORMS programming environment (also called NXT - G; it is based on LabVIEW but not equivalent).  These files contain binary data representing a MINDSTORMS program.  To open them, you need the LEGO software.

  Yes, I could go through each file one at a time, but I got an error trying to select all files in the directory, so I could assign this permission en mass.
