  What you need is 2.5 SATA HDD and it may be Toshiba but it may also be of some other manufacturers. You don't need anything special. If possible consult your dealer and they can help you choose one that suits.

  Now, when you need a new HARD drive maybe you should think about upgrading with SSD. Disc SSD is much faster and use of SSD with your laptop will rapidly increase the performance of s for laptop.

  AFAIK you can use each HARD top of page 120 GB disk because your laptop is a limitation of LBA 28 bits. This means that you can use the top of 128 GB of DISK space.

  The new HARD drive should be have an IDE interface and size 2.5. All that s and normally each Toshiba HDD should work with these specifications.

  I put t known what HDD IDE controller was built in, but it should support the LBA 28 bits and, therefore, up to 128 GB HARD drive should be recognized.

  You can use the 2.5 IDE HARD drive.

  But if the IDE controller supports only 28 bit LBA then you could use max 120 GB HDD s.
  If the IDE controller supports 48-bit LBA, you can then use more big s HDD.

  48-bit LBA is supported because ATA-6 sets (also known as Ultra DMA/100, Ultra DMA mode 5 or Ultra-ATA100) IDE controller

  I think what you need is a HARD drive with the SATA interface. I think that the 40 GB of HARD drive that was installed in your laptop supports a 5400 RPM.

  To my knowledge the external USB case supports an IDE hard drives. But you know, it is possible to s that your external HARD drive supports a SATA interface. In any case, you must check it before using this laptop computer HARD drive.

  In addition, there is a problem with the size of the HARD drive. It is a 120 GB HARD drive and, possibly, the BIOS does not recognize the HARD drive. I think you can use 40 GB, 60 GB, 80 GB and 100 GB hard drives but I'm not sure about the 120 GB.

  Satellite A210 uses SATA hard drives and you need a new HARD drive with SATA interface. You can buy each HARD drive you want, for example 160 or 320 GB. On interface SATA there is no capacity limit.

  In addition, most SATA HDDs have already SATA2 interface but its compatible downgrade to SATA1.

  I guess the HARD SATA 40 GB drive supports a 5400 RPM.
  I think you could use a 40 GB, 60 GB, 80 GB and a 100 GB HARD drive.
  But I think the 5400 RPM is higher because many HARD disk faster could produce more heat and this could lead to overheating problems.

  Therefore use the 5400 RPM HARD drive, and you should also get a very good data transfer performance.
