'Read only' external hard drive Toshiba

After the update to El Capitan yesterday, my drive toshiba external hard now only gives me permission to "read only". How can I fix it?

How the hard drive is formatted?

If it is formatted to NTFS, it is likely that your third-party software installed to write NTFS must be updated to El Capitan.

  • How to format external hard drive Toshiba PX1266E - 1 25 (250 GB)?

    Hi all

I'm hard to re-formatting my Toshiba drive HARD from FAT32 to NTFS. I read instruction manual, troubleshooting and FAQ too: I've disabled my antivirus and connected my HARD drive without expansion card. The result is the same: the message "Unable to complete the format".
You know that when you connect the HARD drive, a virtual CD called "password" begins. Is it possible that it is causing the problem? Can I remove it?
With partition magic, the drive is signed as BAD. He asks me if I want to format the HARD disk to restart the computer, but when he starts an error occurs. I also tried with dban, but it does not work.

    So, what can I do?
A big thanks to all the world. (Sorry for my English, I hope that my problem is clear).

    Hi Ivan_2,

activation/deactivation has no influence until the password is not removed.
When a password encrypted partition/disk needs to be formatted, you will need to remove the password.
I think there is a tool to reformat the drive, but you will lose all files...

AutoPlay is a feature of your operating system > activate in the device properties...

hardware stores the password and governs what is written on the drive - no disc operation is allowed also formatting is not possible.

    to recover your files:
mount the drive and turn on the password and delete before writing to disk
After that, you should be able to access all of your files.

the virtual drive you can see might be the operating system that manages the 'password-thing ".

reset the password should do the job too, but you lose all the files on this disc.
refer to the manual and make sure that the options are possible.

  • Clicking on Toshiba 1 TB external hard drive

Bought my external hard drive Toshiba Canvio black 1 TB in July, and a few days ago I heard / felt continuous clicking. I've been more than prudent with my drive, never give up, tilting ever and never disconnect when the light flashes. Somehow I could possibly revive? Sometimes after I have unplug it and plug it back, there is no clicking for an hour and my files are readable, but then he starts up with the clicking again

    Hello

You should be troubled if the HARD drive starts making strange noises.
It could be a first sign of a HARD disk crash.
On the other hand, my HARD drive clicks also but not always it happens sporadically
I couldn't find a reason for this, but I created some backups to be on the safe side.

I think that you must back up the data too.

  • External hard drive has problem by being recognized from my Win7 desktop PC. How can I fix?

Hi This is the first time I post something, but I always read your thread, which helped me a lot!

Now I'm having a problem and I can not find answers: C

    I use a desktop PC

    • Windows 7 Home Premium
    • Service Pack 1
    • 5.1 index of Windows performance
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-2300 @ 2.80 GHz 2.80 GHz CPU
    • 8.00 GB OF RAM
    • System: 64-bit

And I'm having a problem with an external hard drive, Toshiba Stor.E Canvio 3 TB USB3

    Specifics:

    • Brand: Toshiba
    • Model: HDWC130EK3J1
    • Capacity of 3 TB
    • External interface: USB 3.0 (compatible USB 2.0)
    • Power:
      • Power AC adapter cable.
      • Input: 100-240V, 650mA
      • Output: 12V - 2A
      • Head of exchangable taken EU/UK
    • Compatibility: PC & Mac
    • System: NTFS (MS Windows) * the disk can be formatted the system filesystem HFS + for Mac compatibility.
    • Requires:
      • Windows® XP / VISTA® / Windows® 7
      • With 750 MHz or faster CPU
      • 10 MB of disk space system hard
      • 256 MB of system memory
      • a USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port

HERE, WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME:

I turn off the pc and I keep the hard drive is connected.

I start windows. No problems so far.

I open windows Documents, I want access to my hard drive, and first of all, she has another name, not the one I gave to her when I formatted, it (like two weeks there are other problems, but that's another story) and when I click on it an error message appears saying that my local drive has been damaged and cannot be opened and is necessary for formatting.

I tried to unplug it after the shutdown of the PC (when the PC is on I can't unplug it because that always seem to be used, even if everything is closed) because I thought that during the start-up in somewhere so it might be confused with a drive of the computer, for three days, he stopped to do today after I plugged it again.

I unplugged and plugged a different device, you see correctly, so I unplugged and re-connected to my PC, now we see normally.

I'm ok with this, but I am aware that it is not normal behavior, what should I do?

    Thank you

Since the watch test failed, the hard drive must be replaced. If it is under warranty, you can take it to the Toshiba service center to get it replaced. Another thing, the new hard drive is the recommended option.

Before in both cases, make sure that you back up all of your important and personal data from the hard drive.

I suggest you to assign a drive letter for the external hard drive and see if it helps.

    To do:

    a. press the Windows key + R and type diskmgmt.msc.

    (b) if the hard drive recognized in disk management and if there is no drive letter assigned, I suggest you do a right click on the drive and assign a drive letter and check if it helps.

    c. right click paths and the drive letter Change.

    Do one of the following:

    ·         To assign a drive letter if it has not already received, click Add, click the letter you want to use and then click onOK.

    ·         To change a drive letter, click change, click on assign the following drive letter, click the letter you want to use and then click on OK.

    d. restart the computer and check.

Hope that the external hard drive will not be detected after that.

    Hi eldar40k,

To be honest, I've never disassembled an external HARD disk and there is no disassembly guides as far as I know.
You should remove all screws and then you can remove the external HARD disk enclosure.

But until you make a mistake, ask a maintainer approved assistance. Maybe they can help you.

I m wondering that you need the data on it. What is your backup? Do you have a?

  • 3 50 PX1394U external hard drive not recognized

I recently bought the external hard drive, Toshiba PX1394U 3 50. I followed the instructions for the installation and everything went as planned either he found material etc. and returned with the message of successful installation.

However, when I go in my computer that there should be an icon for the external hard drive and it does not exist.

I saw the thread, recommending using REGEN, but this has no effect on the problem - the icon still does not appear in my computer.

I use a laptop computer from a different manufacture running Windows XP and all updates are loaded.

I also had the same problem when loading on my desk.

    Any ideas?

If you get the message installation was successful, you should find the HARD disk in disk management.
Control Panel > administrative tools > computer management > disk management

Maybe you first create a partition or format, but normally you will see players all recognized.

  • Try to restore supported files on an external hard drive.

I have a Windows VIsta operating system that crashed this past year.  But just before losing, I used the center of restoration with the Windows backup utility to back up our files.  I supported it up to an external hard drive, Toshiba (E :).   I see the backup of my files on the external hard drive E: but when I go back to Windown backup and Restore Center to restore the files (even with the attached external hard drive) the restore program is not recognizing backup. I am trying to extract the files to my new hard drive.  Pls note that I didn't simply copied and past.  All files are compressed in a Formate of backup on the external drive.  Any suggestions?

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes on the computer before the show?
    2. you receive an error message?

    Method 1:
You can see detailed information about how to restore the files from the link below.

    Method 2:
You can also perform a SFC scan and verify that you are able to perform the backup.
