  Like many others, I received a call from a man who claims he was Microsoft, telling me that my computer was being hacked. I started to see through his bull quickly while I was talking to him, and after research I found confirmation that he indeed was a scam. However after reading the responses I am worrying whether or not I gave him access to my computer. As I was talking to him, I had on my computer, not to do what he told me or visit the page he was trying to direct me, but looking at the probability of this being a scam. My question is to get online while we were connected to the phone I made my system vulnerable? We have DSL and I was wondering if they already have my phone number could they hack into my computer or follow my ISP just connected. I think I'm fine, but now I'm getting paranoid who were able to carve in. It may just be a case of hypochondria computer. Any idea is appreciated. Thank you!

He began to tell me that I was apparently the Registrant for windows (bad) and I was loading the garbage in the back on the ground, when I tols him would not discuss anything over the phone with someone when I could not check who they were he got snotty with me  I told her to remove my number from their database and if they called again I account him for harassment... and then he raised his voice so I said how dare you call me at 8:30 in the morning and holler at me!

  MS has no way to tell what is on your PC.  This is another example of the scam usual ' calls trying to access your PC to enter data and make you pay loads of money for "clean."

  I just got a phone call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft.  He directed me to go to MS Windows event viewer and County errors and warnings in the Applications and the system section.  Then he asked me to let them access my computer and fix any problems that would be 'crash' of my computer.  When I refused him access said he couldn't help me and hung up.  I do not think that it was Microsoft but are ratings warning and error a problem?  I use Windows XP.

  Kudos to you 1Grizzly, you have made the right choice. Microsoft does not make unsolicited support calls or send emails to customers, offering support.

  I just got a call from someone claiming to be a representative of Microsoft to report that my network downloads could be accompanied by unwanted files without my knowledge.  I know it's a scam, but I played along anyway.  The representative asked me to press the keys Ctrl + key Microsoft Logo at the same time.  Of course I hung up immediately, but I can't find in any of my research, what will make this combination of keys.  Can anyone advise, please.  Thank you.

  It is a scam. This combination of keys does nothing. Then, my guess is that they will tell you that he was supposed to do something and work on you from here to get info on your machine. Microsoft never does unsolicited phone calls.

  07/06/2011 I got a call from someone sounding forign claiming that he was from Microsoft and I had problems [virus]? with my computer, I know not how he got my phone number, I'm very careful with security on the computer, he asked if I was on the count at the moment and I replied that I was not asked if he asked me to open it then that I was in shock to receive such a call I did he asked me to go in on the computer to run a type in... so I did and it asked me to tell him what he read, I read it all to him and he said yes there is that your problem is He didrected me to his site [which turned out be on EBay] and told me that he could fix all my problems, I just had to choose options and we could start and that he guaranteed guaranteed for life , which cost $410.00, I always has been a bit shocked I did he did OK among "technicians", which I did it installed a few programs, of which one has since fallen by report so I received another call from him, but this time I realized that I had been scamed I googled his company, no DIACRITIQUE I googlled a few other things and learned that Microsoft make phone calls to people , so I hung up on him and I deleted from his programs, his name is Junaid Ali with an e-mail address of * address email is removed from the privacy *. I understand that I can write about what I bought, but do you be able to follow him and help others to be taken for a ride

  Scam artist or try to con money for 'repairs' remote - exposing your computer to all kinds of possibilities of hacking-, or phishing for personal details.

  I live in Switzerland, but am British and a mac user (no groans please) although I Mac office installed.
  In any case, tonight I received a call from an Asian woman of this phone number 00441865600154, the 1st time, I pressed the wrong button and cut them but they were recalled to work and she said she was from MS and my computer downloaded hacking software and had it flashed an alert at Microsoft. The line was very very bad and I've been cut called the number back and I just domestic type normal BT mail voice... scam or real?
  MS have the ability to track these things, and how they know my phone number to the House Switzerland?

  It is a scam, Microsoft does not call for end-users, because I don't think that they follow everyone. All calls more like this contempt please and offer the information for them. Total scam.

  They probably bought a list of phone numbers from somewhere or they get telephone directories in Europe. Not too sure about all other methods. That would be my guess.

  Hi, I just became a victim of a scam. A company (Indian person) posing as the support of microsoft certified saying they had reports that my pc was slow and that they could run faster. I gave them access to my computer (I know, what a wally) via logmein code 320307. Last night, I deleted all the files from IE and cookies etc, ran a scan. I am woorried on the software "keylogger" trying to capture my bank details. Is there anything else I need to do?

  My elderly mother answers the call of the "Windows security" and follow their instructions to let a technician security log in the laptop so that they can scan and fix it. When I realized what was going on that I closed it down.

  I could see that they had opened the graphics to use to give the impression that they were something technical and also by clicking on the icons on the desktop. What damage could they did until I stopped it?

  It's hard to know for sure. However, if they had access to the computer then its possible that all personal information (coordinated banking, credit card, password, etc.) may have been compromised. It is also possible that they left the malware on the computer.

  What you do depends on what was on the computer and that use you it to - it was a personal choice. However, I normally recommend at least:

  • notify banks and other competent organizations that personal data may have been compromised.
  • change all passwords by using another computer (the computer that they accessible may be infected and can pass the new password for the crooks).
  • do a clean reinstall of Windows that includes a reformat.

  For any future reference so you / your family get these calls in the future, then younrequested calls of this nature are almost always a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.
