"recent places" on the desktop will not erase?

I don't know how I got here, but apparently its not delete because this isn't a shortcut. There seems to be I left the program where ever it came from originally and now I can't get off my desk... whenever I try to get out of the office, it creates a shortcut... How can I fix it?

You can manage your startup to find out why your computer is experiencing difficulties of start and stop. Certainly I would test the hard drive.

Start > run > msconfig [Enter]

This will open the System Configuration utility. Look under the Startup tab and find the likely culprit. Uncheck the box next to its name, apply and OK out. You don't need to restart immediately, but next time you do, you will get a dialog box saying that you have used the utility. Just check the box that says in effect, "don't mind to this subject again".

Important - do not use the System Configuration utility to stop the process. Use rather Start > Run > services.msc [Enter] and stop all services unless you really, really know what you're doing.

  • Network of shortcuts on the desktop will not connect to documents

I have shortcuts on my Vista desktop to the word "Networking" & excel files that I use all the time.  When I click on the shortcut, my computer says that the file is not found.  If I go through 'my computer' to connect to the file, everything is fine.  This problem is also the problem that I posted on another forum with no response yet:

Running Vista Business & Office 2007 on a Server 2003 domain.  When I access a 'network' (in Word or Excel) file, and then close the file, I'm unable to re - open the file... I get the message ' document is currently in use, try again later ".  Also, if I open a file, make changes and try to save it under the same name, I get the same message.  I have this problem until last Monday... like a switch has been turned upside down or something.  Any ideas?  I am connected to my workstation which is located in an area (I'm not directly connected to the domain).   This configuration running on all my machines Vista and do not have the problem on a different workstation.  Also the Quickbooks will not open the file of our networked society, workstation does not recognize the network as a QB file file.  Can someone HELP me with this.  My workstation, at this point, is essentially worthless.  I am unable to work on any network files.

  • folder on the desktop will not clear?

I have a folder on my desktop that I can't remove. It's big (8.6 GB), but I've waited several times so he can remove several minutes to give it enough time. When I try to delete it, often (maybe always) I can't see the Deleting scroll box and looks like it's deletion. But then the box disappears and the file remains right on the desktop. This file is a collection of everything that was in my Docs and she was restored from a USB hard drive and backed up on my desk so that I could pick through it and get what I wanted. I am sure that nothing is it used by any program, and I tried to remove it when I have no programs open.

Start safe mode and see if it will remove. If this is not the case, see if this freeware tool.

  • Icons/programs on the desktop will not open the actual program

Whenever I click on an icon/program such as Internet explorer in my desktop, it automatically opens windows media center!  Each program, on that I click open windows media center!  How can I fix?

Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.

    -

You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type CMD in the search box, right-click on CMD. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.

    -

Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To do that click on start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.

    `

When you get your system in good working condition, I invite you to back up your system up to an external hard drive and make it regular periodic updates.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

    awadlow42,
We could use a little more information to help us on this issue.

What version of level pack XP\service do you have?
Do you get any error messages?
Are you able to navigate\open all items with your keyboard?  The main windows on the start menu open keyboard?
If something has changed on the system recently (new hardware or software)?
You are able to access your BIOS or screen boot options and navigate in their midst?
Have you tried to boot mode safe?  If this is not the case, try to start safe mode and you will see if the elements are functioning normally.  This link talks about fashion without failure: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222

Ideas page: hanging in wrongly Test prt (LPT1) and tail blocks to HP C4280 w/USB connect... will not erase.

How to cancel?  Pls help.   TKS, Ron Moore

    Hi Ron,

    1. how many printers is connected to the computer?

    2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    3. what happens when you try to change printer (LPT1) port

    Method 1

See the link below and run them the fixit tool available, check if it helps.

    Problems printing and printing errors

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/printing_problems/en-us?EntryPoint=lightbox

    Method 2

If the previous step fails, then I suggest that you restart the computer the print spooler service and check if it works.

A print spooler is a system service that temporarily stores the disk printing hard or in memory until the printer is ready to print.

To change or restart the print spooler service

You must be logged on as administrator to perform these steps.

    (a) open administrative tools by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools.

    (b) double click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    (c) right click on the print spooler service, and then click Properties.

    (d) under the tab general , next to Startup type, make sure thatAutomatic is selected.

    (e) if the service is not already running, under Service status, click pie Sand then clickOK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • print job is stuck in the queue and will not erase

I have a HP 4620.  I sent a print job to the computer via the network.  It will not be printed, so I tried to delete the job.  It is stuck on "deletion" and will not erase (it has been like this for days).  I tried the other options such as restart, pause etc. and it is just stuck say delete.  I restarted the computer and activated and on the printer, but can not do the work to remove.  So just now I can't print anything because new jobs will not be printed either; guess that they don't print until that first job is deleted.  Can I remove the new print jobs.  Someone at - it solution.

    Hello

From the desktop, hold down the Windows key and press R.  In the run window, type services.msc and press to enter.  Scroll down to the print spooler service, right click and select Properties, then click the Stop button.  Now search for C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS, then delete the work inside this folder - you may need to click a command prompt to get the authority to open the PRINTERS folder.

Restart the computer and you should find that the documents have been deleted.

    Kind regards

  • Maps and layouts: update of the failure or will not erase

Select Page layouts et Cards fail to update correctly. This is the case for the unreleased updates to with no associated collection and the unreleased cards with associated No. layouts. In addition, in some cases published layouts or maps indicate the status ""update failed, obsolete, "but the changes make their way to the app." This happens for some layouts and cards, but not all; In addition, some layouts and cards work fine for awhile and then fail to publish or will not erase. Is this a known issue? [using publish.adobe.com app 2015.2.100 version]

Hey Kristen - Sounds complicated, and I don't know all the details completely, but I have had similar experiences and started to notice the following, especially with the cards and layouts.

    Scenario:

I have a card and use it in a mapping rule for a layout. Everything is cool, work the way you want.

Now, I want to remove the card (I am resetting things for a demo session and want to start without cards nor the updates page with the exception of the default values.)

If I delete the card first, I get the message "Failed to update, obsolete".

To avoid this or delete it, I need to remove all mapping rules in all page layouts that call the map and publish all these layouts (without the map reference.)

So I new and remove the card.

I followed a similar procedure for the removal of the page layouts-

The value of all the collections so that none use the layout to remove

Publish all the collections that are obsolete.

Then you can new and remove the unwanted provision.

It's probably pretty fussy, but it works.

I've had similar experiences with items and collections. If an article or a collection is used in several collections, I would get a similar error. I had to work on what article or the collection has been used in several places before I could new and delete.

    Hope that helps

There may be some problems that repair tools are not picking up. It may be preferable to a repair facility. This can help with any corruption of the registry, which could happen by the deletion of these programs. http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/917964

Keep in mind when running all that modifies the system it is always a good idea to have your data and backup programs (it's general advice for any system its always good to have a backup in case of possible failure of material/virus)
