Recent programs on the start menu is not - don't know why?

I read the other posts and have not used "CCleaner", but have used other registry cleaner products. Any ideas how can I fix?

Hi K_Wallett,

There may be not much that can be done for this, if the registry has been modified or corrupted/damaged. You can try one of the options is to perform a repair installation: however, before this just so that there is no other issue you will want to make sure you have all your programs, files, folders, and everything you don't want to lose saved on an external device. (just to be sure that your data are safe).

Try a system restore to a Date before the problem began:

  • How to permanently delete a recent list of the start menu program?

I would like to know how I can prevent a program from appearing in the list of most recently used programs on the start menu in Windows 7 (Pro).

For example, "notebook" is in this list, but I've only start it by double-clicking on text files, never through the start menu. In this way, 4 of the 10 last menu entries are shortened I will never use and that take away space for other, more valuable shortcuts.

I know that I can delete items manually by using the right-click menu ("remove from list"), but I really prefer a way to do this is permanent.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Michael

I don't think there is a way to accomplish what you describe. There is no way to set this component to "ignore" specific programmes.

    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot access Internet and all programs on the start menu. How to get rid of a virus on windows xp

I was recently given a hand computer (compaq I tthink) so I'm not clear about all the fancy stuff to the extent of the ect CPU... but I know it has windows xp pro. in any case, a friend used my computer and for some reason any felt the need to download a program called 7-zip. Now, my computer is screwed... In the start menu > all programs, everything has disappeared! And I can access the system restore in normal boot and safe mode, but the window remains empty, we never really gave me the opportunity to use it. Oh and I can't get online in normal or safe boot mod either, what can I do?

Original title: how to get rid of a virus on windows xp proremove a virus from windows xp pro

    1. Why do you think that the computer is infected with the virus? See you pop - unwanted ups or odd behavior of all programs?

2 have you made any changes to the computer before the show?

    3. did you run any online scanners to remove infections?

    4. What is the antivirus installed on the computer program?

Method 1: Run a scan antivirus on your computer.

Note: If infections are detected during the scan, there is a risk of data loss because infected files will be deleted.

Method 2: Safe mode with networking

Step 1: Check if you can browse the Internet with success in Mode safe mode with networking.

Networking Mode safe mode starts Windows in mode safe mode and includes the network drivers and services needed to access the Internet or other computers on your network.

A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode

Step 2: Put the computer in a State of boot is a way to know which application is causing this problem.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

Step 1: Follow the steps in the link below to do the same thing:

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as shown here:

Step 2: To configure Windows to use a Normal startup state

After you have used the boot is a way to solve your problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    1. Click Start and then click Run.
    2. Type msconfig and click OK. The System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.
    3. Click the general tab, click Normal Startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.
    4. When you are prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

    Method 3:

Create a new user account and verify if you are able to access the program in the start menu.

Try to connect with a different user has administrator rights account and then create a new user account.

After installing a program, the program on the start menu folder is empty. Here is my problem for the last 3 months, I got a problem with the installation of programs on my newest PC is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. After Installation the problem is that when I go to start and all programs folder menus and switch to this folder the last installed Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, the program shows as empty folder. I can't run anything in the menu start all programs. Other small programs that I installed, I was able to start the program to find the exe to start and worked with it by starting the program example start.exe start. When I start sqlservr.exe manually from C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL server\MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\Binn it comes up with a black screen and a small window which I don't know that I do not get the appropriate permissions on the files it needs to run. C: Program Files and c: data files have corrupted permissions or other files are corrupt is there a way to reset these permissions back to their original condition or what else is happening here? You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If yes you can try Control Panel - device
Manager - graphics card - Double click on - driver tab - click on UPDATE driver - then right click
on devices and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure)
CTRL + ALT + DELETE and on the tab process EXPLORER.exe and COMPLETE the PROCESS on this subject - then
on the Applications tab - lower right - new task - type in EXPLORER.exe. Safe mode is reached
by tapping F8 as you start several times.

You can try an In-Place Upgrade (hopefully save programs and data) or a repair installation (if all goes well

  • Folder icon in all programs on the start menu

I tried to change the icons of the folders in all programs on the start menu. But after that, it has been restored. Nothing is left.

Hoping that windows can automatically display the icons of the programs installed on these files.

I understand that you want to change the icons of folders in the files shows all programs menu.

You can change the icons of folders which are displayed in the file Explorer, but these changes will not be reflected in the access to the start menu.

However, you can use some 3rd 3rd party apps that can help you to do the same.

Note: Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.
