Reconfigure existing disk on MD3220i groups

Hello

I currently have a MD3220i with two disk RAID 10 groups. I would like to reconfigure them in a large RAID5. These are used by a Hyper-V Cluster Server 2012 running. What would be the proper way to remove the volumes of the beam, removing the existing disk groups, create the new disk group and adding the new volume as a shared Cluster Volume? I know it's more a question of Microsoft but no direction is much appreciated

Thank you

Mike.

Hello Mike,.

You will need to do is remove your connection host of virtual disks first.  Once this has been done, then you want to delete the virtual disks. Once the virtual disks have been removed, you can remove the disk group.  Once the disk group has been deleted then you can recreate the new disk group and create the virtual disks and then assign them to the cluster.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • The existing disk stores can be renamed?

    Hi all

    We want to upgrade to spring given gemfire worm 1.2.2/gemfire 6.5.1 to make use of the key/value constraint, but it broke our config xml to store existing drive (store disk moved up level in the most recent version).

    We have existing disk files that share the same name as the region we want to be migrated, but with the new configuration of the disk stores will use a different id and so create differently named disc store files.

    Is it possible to change the name of store existing to the new drive so that existing persistent files can be migrated transparently.

    Thank you

    I'm not sure that SDG 1.2.2 officially support GFE 6.5.
    You can rename the files of record store if you use the same version of GemFire in both cases. If you go from 6.5 to 6.6, there is a way of migration for disc stores. See the documentation for more details.
    If your region (and the record store) called 'data' in SDG, you'll like in the files on disc in the store:
    BACKUP_data.if
    BACKUP_data_1.crf
    BACKUP_data_1.drf
    BACKUP_data_2.crf
    BACKUP_data_2.drf

    If you define a named record store item you see as:

    You will get files like (no leader '_') record store:
    BACKUPdata_new.if
    BACKUPdata_new_1.crf
    BACKUPdata_new_1.drf

    You should be able to rename the files BACKUP_data * to BACKUPdata_new *.

  • ASM Diskgroup existing disks

    Hello
    Oracle RDBMS version 11.2.0.3.0
    OS: OEL 6.3
    Stand-alone server of the grid Infrastructure.
    MY question: I want to connect existing disks to ASM instance. What commands to create new disks existing diskgroup using without erasing the data on disks?

    Hello
    My recommendation is to create the ASM using ASCMA instance.

    Because the step below is valid only up to 11.1 or less, for 11.2 is missing a few extra steps.

    Now the steps for manual creation of DSO;

    1. create the file password for manually creating an ASM instance.
    orapwd file = $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapw + ASM Password123 = 5 entries = password

    In this way the user ASMSNMP will not be created and you must manually assigns a role SYSASM to the SYS user. ASMCA do automatically.

    2. create the needed directories:

    mkdir Pei $ORACLE_BASE/admin / + ASM
    CD $ORACLE_BASE/admin / + ASM
    mkdir bdump
    mkdir udump
    mkdir cdump
    mkdir pfile

    These directories are obsolete on 11.2, now Oracle use ADR to store logs.

    3. create the file init + ASM.ora under the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs:

    asm_diskgroups = 'DATA', 'FRA '.
    asm_diskstring = "/ dev/oracleasm/discs / *'"
    background_dump_dest ='/ u01/app/admin / + ASM/bdump "
    core_dump_dest ='/ u01/app/admin / + ASM/cdump '
    instance_type = "asm".
    LARGE_POOL_SIZE = 12 M
    user_dump_dest ='/ u01/app/admin / + ASM/udump '

    ASMCA value target memory at least 272 M

    4 - export ORACLE_SID = + ASM
    Instance ASM 5-start in editing mode:

    sqlplus / as sysasm
    Create spfile from pfile;
    Startup mount
    Show disc setting

    6 - Mount starts;

    change fra diskgroup Steed;
    change the data diskgroup medium;

    Missing a few steps here.

    ASMCA will activate/configure "ora.asm" (by adding the SPFILE and some PARAMETERS on OLR) resources and all dependent resources and create DISKGROUP resources.
    If you do not have config, ASM will be not started/stoped/restarted automatically.

    Once again... Is recommended to create an ASM Instance using ASMCA and a SMALL Lun (1 GB) to store only the ASM SPFILE when creating and then just get the other DISKGROUP.

    When you activate your database or add the DISKGROUP resources on Oracle Restart, and ASM must exist to work properly

  • Create the disk as V1 group

    It's a long story, but I would like to create my disk groups as v1.  Is it possible to create as v1?

    I was hoping to use the - downgrade-format option, but it says that I have into accessible objects.  Even if I deleted all disk groups and disabled vSAN and then recreated it.  There is no v2 on the store object, so it should work but is not.

    I am hoping there is a command line that will allow me to claim records as v1 file format.  Thank you, Zach.

    A host used the vSAN data store as its config scratch, having for result the inaccessible objects.  I moved the config scratch and was able to do the downgrade.  However, it has not fixed my problem.  Well, back to the drawing board.

    FYI, this isn't an issue with vSAN; rather a problem with the way in which a third party working with vSAN.  Thank you, Zach.

  • How can I expand an existing disk drive?

    I created an ACE package using VMware WorkStation version 6.5.0 build 118166.  Images of ACE are managed by an ACE Management Server.  I place the ACE images while they had a 50 GB hard drive.  The hard drive has not been previously awarded in size.  One of the developers of my application if there is a way to increase the size of the more than 50 GB disc.  Is this possible?  If not, is it possible to add a 2nd drive hard once the image has already been deployed?

    I was going to say that you could turn on the policy Administrator Mode and then go to the computer of the user, in admin mode, then change the settings for the virtual machine. However, this leaves you add/remove drives.

    Packages of fixes are also only for policies so that you cannot use this for adding new disks.

    If for some reason, you had disabled the encryption of the ACE instance, I you can run tools such as vmware-vdiskmanager but it seems you have already tried and he complained of needing encryption keys.

    So, it seems that your only choice is to make changes to the model and then make a new complete package.

  • Reinstallation of Oracle 11 g 2 RAC grid problem - ASM disk group

    People,

    Hello.

    I want to install Oracle 11 g RAC 2 with 2 Virtual Machines (rac1 and rac2 which BONES are Oracle Linux 5.6) in VMPlayer.

    I was installing Infrastructure of grid using runInstaller in the first rac1 VM from step 1 to step 9/10.

    On 9/10 in the wizard step, by chance, I touch the mouse, and the wizard disappeared.

    The grid in the 2 VMs installation directory is the same: / u01

    I have to make sure that everything is correct, delete the directory/U01 to 2 virtual machines and install again the grid in rac1.

    I realized that this is not the right way to remove/U01. The right way is to follow the tutorial
    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/install.112/e22489/rem_orcl.htm#CBHEFHAC

    But I have deleted/U01 and must correct one by one. I reinstall the grid and get the error message in step 5 of 9 as follows:

    [INS - 30516] Please specify unique disk groups.
    [INS-3050] ASM disk group empty.
    Cause - the installer has detected the name of Group of disk already exists on the system.
    Action - specify the different disk group.

    In the wizard, the old disk group name is 'DATA' and his candidate records (5 ASMDISKs) are gone. I try to use another name "DATA2", but no ASMDISKs are "candidate records. For "All discs", it is impossible to select all ASMDISKs.

    I want to use the same disk group ASM 'DATA' and do not want to create a new disk group.

    My question is:

    How to make previous ASM disks and his group of 'DATA' therefore "Candidate records" who can use again?

    Thank you.

    I have to migrate the database from the OLD SAN SAN again. Guys helped me to the solution, but I could not clearly. They told me that
    Just add new LUNS to the existing disk groups. Drop the old SAN LUNS in the disk groups (this is simply to remove LUNS). Issue a re balance common to move and re striped data from OLD SAN LUN on new SAN LUNs.once this operation is completed, ASM will old LUN of the disk groups and these LUNS can be removed physically. All of this can happen with the currently running instance - it will be obvious change of underlying storage deployed system.

  • ASM Migrage disk to another cluster group

    Hi all

    I have an Oracle Cluster with 2 knots in our DC env. We use ASM and have a disk group named EAM DC-DATA. This disk group is external redundancy and was created from 1 LUN named DC-DATA-LUNS

    I have an another Oracle Cluster with 2 knots in our DR env and I use the replication technology from storage to replicate DATA - DC LUN-LUN DC to DR with name DR-DATA-LUNS

    So my question is:

    When I stop the replication of storage, I can mount LUN DR-DATA-LUNS to the cluster in the Dr and mount the Group ASM to Dr. cluster disks?

    There should be no problem to clone (LUN) storage media for use in another system or ASM instance. ASM retains information about disk groups in the headers of storage media. ASM on the other instance will recognize the headers and so identify the disks and open groups of disks.

  • Reconfigure the virtual disk using OpenManage of RAID 0, RAID-5

    I apologize for the spacing.  I'm having a little wrong with this forum edit my post.

    My small business has had a T610 run for a few years with the following configuration:

    T610 Server

    PERC 6 / i controller

    4 physical disk 1 TB

    Virtual disk 0 size 1 800 GB RAID - 5

    Size of the virtual disk 1 992 GB RAID - 5

    Virtual Disk 1 was running Exchange and everything else on VD 0.

    Last weekend, I had a breakdown of table flat due to the failure of a damaged drive on Windows SBS 2008, who couldn't recover. When I contacted support Pro and got a new drive, I was told not to recreate the same virtual drives and use one.

    The local tech and I have been quite underlined and used the Perc 6 / I BIOS to recreate the exact configuration. Then, we had to use Backup Exec 2010 to restore the data. Somehow, we have selected by mistake instead of RAID 5 RAID-0 on recreation of the two virtual disks.

    So now, I have the following configuration in OpenManage:

    Virtual disk 0 size 1 800 GB RAID - 0

    Size of the virtual disk 1 992 GB RAID - 0

    I called Dell and gave instructions in OpenManage on how to reconfigure a virtual disk by adding a physical drive and conversion to RAID-5. My problem is reconfigure is not an option in the dropdown menu, I am told, because I have two virtual disks that have stripes.

    I have the ability to drive to go to 1 single virtual disk, given only Exchange is on the second and I can move, then unmold Virtual Disk 1. So my plan is:

    Full backup tape.

    Move Exchange off the drive sitting in virtual disk 1 to disk on virtual disk 0.

    Remove the virtual disk 1.

    Add a 5th physical HD.

    I hope at this point OpenManage will then give me the option in the drop-down list to reconfigure Virtual Disk 0.

    The option to Reconfigure in OpenManage will appear after that he sees only 1 virtual disk?

    Hello

    KRoy66
    The option to Reconfigure in OpenManage will appear after that he sees only 1 virtual disk?

    Yes, the ability to reconfigure should be available as soon as you remove the second table off readers. Technicians are you talked with correct you cannot reconfigure a table in slices.

    I know that you went through the entire process of relocation and restoration of backup, but it is preferable that do you it again. Let me explain why your table has been configured in this way, and why you may need to reinstall again.

    There are limits on the partition. To create a partition more of 2 TB, it must be TPG. In order to boot the system from a partition GPT Board must be set to UEFI mode. The problem you will encounter when trying to create a large RAID 5 is that you will not be able to use more than 2 TB of it. You create a new table in slices to use the extra space.

    If the system card is already set to UEFI mode then you should be able to convert the GPT partition and expand to necessary to hold account space. If you have installed the operating system with the system of administration established on the MBR can change in UEFI and conversion of GPT likely to cause BONE to be unstable if you are able to boot on it at all.

    I think you need to save yourself a lot of hassle and do this upgraded correctly. I know it will be a lot more time to restart, but you should set the UEFI boot mode, remove the two RAID 0, create the new large RAID 5, reinstall the OS and then restore the backup.

    Do it right now probably will save you a lot of time.

    Thank you

    I did some searching in the forums, but did not find what I was looking for.  Also tried Google without success.  In any case, it's probably a simple request, but I can't seem to make it work for anything.  I'm looking for is an if statement that will check to see if a specific group exists in the document by default before running the script is to bring another document layers.  In addition, if there is also a way to check if a specific group (name) does not exist before running the code, as well.  Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Only 24 of 48 drives available for the disk pool

    I have a MD3220 with a shelf of 1220 and I try to re - configure and create a pool of large disks with all 48 records.  When I go to create the disk pool, it only takes 24 14 to but shows 32 TB available disks.  I amazed the previous installation configuration because we had to take a tablet of 1220 from this table not used for another project, so now I'm back to reconfigure.  I wonder if the high-end features must be re-activated because I deleted the config.  Maybe, that's all.  When I go to md - storage.com to regenerate a key of course it doesn't have no idea what my system.  Is there something that I am missing.   Should be a two-minute task that will now take hours apparently.

    Hello Tradsd,

    Ah, that's your problem. Yes two disks must be of the same size & speed, otherwise the pool will use the specifications of the smaller disks to build the pool. Yes, you can develop the direct pool you just need to get seen by MDSM readers and as long as they are showing that no, so you can assign them to a disk pool or group of disks that you want to. Here is a link to the Administrator's guide, and if you look at page 97 he explains about the readers with the same physical size.
