Reconstruction of my Vista 32 OS
I think I have to rebuild my system (HP DV2308TX laptop) of the recovery partition HP due to many problems with the functionality of the operating system. I'm doing this to get a clean start!
However, I'm nervous about to install all updates after the recovery process.
My questions are;
1, do I need to install all of the updates in chronlogical order of release date?
2, if I install just the Service pack 1 and Service pack 2, which is to avoid having to install all other updates before SP 1, and the period between SP1 and SP2?
Thank you
You must follow the instructions you will receive Windows updates on the order the updates are installed.
Unless your computer is ready for it with the correct updates, you will not be offered SP1 or SP2 later.
You can use Standalone PC downloads, but if you're not that confident, you would do better to use Auto updates.
See you soon.

manages scheduled tasks has stopped working and was closed
Lately I get this error message often when I start using my Vista PC (Vista Business SP2) in the morning: "manages scheduled tasks has stopped working and was closed".
And this morning the automatic update of Windows Defender definitions also could not install (so I would be dnld and installed). Set to automatic update referred to 'unknown error' (8 and 57, I think).
FYI, sfc/scannow reported no integrity violoations with system files. I also reconfigured my PC there is to make sure that it is clean, fresh and perfectly up-to-date before reinstalling all my apps, and it's been updated for about 2 months then.
How this application problem "manages scheduled tasks" can be fixed? If you don't know, where can I get an answer? Neither Google nor Bing seem to show any reference to the exact phrase "" manages scheduled tasks has stopped working stopped working '. "

Update 7/22: I'm starting to suspect a problem of interactions between turn off Vista and [printer] HP Digital Imaging Monitor. I tried to disable it via msconfig, a couple of days and have not seen the mistakes regularly ever since, but the jury is still pending for another week or two. I'll report after awhile.
It is too early to point a finger because we know that all of them have well worked normally in the past and they seem equally at risk of corruption. For example, I have no these errors when you use the same software HP on my Win7 PC and I don't have these errors for a few months after that the reconstruction of my Vista laptop, so I'm suspecting some piece of software has become corrupted (something in Vista), or something the tracking software program, some windows or component or registry setting software execution to one who relies on the HP printer.

Hi supports,
I have a HP DV9610EF computer was equipped with windows vista (2007), I upgraded from vista to win8 in 2013, without no problem, many thks HP.
Now, my question is the following:
In order to have a new computer, I want to know if it is possible to move the "(original vista) recovery partition" and rebuilt it with my WIN8, if yes how to treat?Thank you very much for your support - Jacky de France :-)
Nice day.
Hello
It is not possible to reconstruct the OEM recovery partition using a different operating system.
8.1 win has a few available recovery options:
Create a custom Refresh Image.
Create a USB Microsoft recovery discto use when your PC does not start or your HARD drive fails. Note, you will not be able to access Recovery Manager from HP that you have upgraded from Vista to Win 8.1.
Create an image of Microsoft Systemon the external backup media.

Windows VISTA Home Prem on DELL Inspiron 1521 will not start
Read the message below. It has been copied from another thread and the poster has been informed to start a new thread with his question. What is ironic, is that I have exactly the same problem on my Dell.
After downloading some updates to Vista my Dell desktop computer restarted and tried to load step 3 updates, it moves very quickly from 0% to 100% and then restarts, only to go back into the same loop of trying to set up step 3 and restart.
I tried the following, starting in safe mode, same results updates are trying to configure.
Auto repair, I am told by a message, it cannot be repaired.
System Restore, I have only 2 system shown to restore points and they are at the time of the upgrade, if I try these points to restore I get an error message.
I tried to reboot from the original installation provided CD but all I get is 'windows is copying files', then a black screen.
I tried the boot iso but neosoft option again to the message windows is to copy the files, and then the black screen.
I'm in thr stage where I can not think of anything else other that to go to a data recovery specialist, to recover the files most important (have over 200 GB of various things on the hard disk) and then reset to factory settings and load data and try and find the sources of all the programs that I had. It looks like an enormous task and it is the main computer for my business. If a kind soul has suggestions as to how I can get this situation somehow, I would be eternally grateful.
Thanks in advance
I'm fairly warned to get to a point to get my data before a complete reconstruction, however, I give that easy. Anyone else having this problem. I'd really like to find a way to solve.

Subfolders are missing in my Windows Vista mail
All of a sudden all my especially for the Inbox subfolders have disappeared, I'm desperate to get back. I used Windows Mail for 2 years with no problems until I turned it on a few days ago.The Inbox always works for the Inbox and Outbox, as well, but it does NOT show the pointer indicating the sub folders.
I got CCleaner, check and repair the registryI have DL WMUtil and clicked on 'Repair', with no result.
Support MS I took the Adviser and Windows Live Mail installed. All windows updates are installed, including SP1 & SP2I'm sure each subfolder has it's own DBX and I have what looks like the long list to save them in my F:\Downloads\Email . I see that the Inbox itself is 1.33 GB, which can be too big?
All windows updates are installed including SP1 & SP2.(When introduced in several years, as far as possible C:\ has been kept for the MS OS and one very little other critics of the programs so that the Image has been observed smaller as much as possible for reasons of reconstruction and restoration.) I have years of work organized and saved and do not want a multi-hour/day sessions to rebuild if the OS crashes. Most of the other programs have been put in E:\; and F:\ was maintained for data)Thus, you will notice that all *.dbx files are in f, not C:\ folders.dbx was changed to folders.old, but the folders.dbx is not regenerated when the mail is opened again.NOW, I go check Mail/Local C:\Users\Carl/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows files . There is No folder.dbx, .old, .bak, etc.. But the records that I'm missing may not be in the local folders. Each of the files *.eml files/messages and I can click on and open one of them.So the sub folders (the typical yellow icon) appear to be in C:\But the *.dbx files (icon looks like a blank white page) are in F:\So how do them together and recognized again?Thank youCarl P Cardey
Hemet, CAHi CarlP33,
C:\Users\Carl/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows Mail/Local Folders is where Windows Mail stores data by default on a Vista machine. And DBX is not the format in which windows mail stores the data. He stores them in a format called. EML you find that is correct.
. DBX is dead... This is the format in which Outlook Express uses to store its data. If you find these files in F:\ they could be a backup or that you copied.
See below on how to import the DBX (Outlook Express data) in Windows Mail.

Microsoft Windows Vista: Rebuild the system volume information folder
Greetings to everyone.
(1) the Crypto ransomware locker has done the thing is on a friends laptop last week. This is a laptop HP DV900 Microsoft Windows Vista. Unfortunately, we have re-installed Vista, from the recovery partition, before attempting to restore the system, using the system restore. It is my understanding that the system volume information folder, contains files, such as excel and word files, which can be restored, but they are stored by Vista, in a special encrypted way.
If I could get it back or if I got the complete information system volume, would be possible to replace the current and to restore the system to a time before the ransomware hit?
(2) in fact, I've used a file recovery program and was able to recover a huge file with the name:
{11d89a13-09a9-11e4-9917-cb6a370b41f2} {3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752}
This file is approximately 1.99 GB, and is dated on 17/07/2014. I suspect that the virus deployed on 18/07/2014 as the most important Excel and word files have the date of last modification of 18/07/2014. And those files that have changed on the 18/07/2014 cannot be open - unless I have change the extensions of excel to .csv file, in which case excel files open, but the info is still obviously encrypted. OK, so I have the part of the system volume information folder content, which seem to be of the part that contains the files there, as this is a fairly large file.
My question is this: is a reconstruction of the folder system volume information, based on this possible of the file? In other words, using this file I have cancelled/recovered, can we restore Vista from this file?
Thank you for your time.
You cannot use the system restore to recover files from the user. Restore points would be zero because of the new facility. Update of installation dates would be irrelevant as well as software installations. The new installation files will take precedence.

I deleted some, not all examples of photos that have been installed on the laptop. Can you tell me how to restore? Tried to reconstruct the lap top, but they don't come back.
Hi Grace,
Thanks for posting your query in the Microsoft community!
I understand that you want to restore examples of pictures of Windows Vista. I will try to help you with this.
(1) what is the brand and model of the computer?
(2) whose restoration are you referring? Is the system restore or the factory restore of the laptop?
You will need to contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer to restore the computer to factory settings.
Note: Make a backup of the data before you reset the laptop.
System Restore does not affect personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.
You can use your favorite search engine and try to find examples of photos from Windows Vista. Or you may need to restore your computer to factory settings. Please report if you are still having the problem. I will be happy to provide you with the additional options that you can use to get the problem resolved.

Hey Toni Sassine
use your microsoft software licenses are yours
you don't have to rebuy unless you move to a different computer licensed oem software
If your microsoft software is pre-installed it is licensed oem and it related to the first machine that is installed the life of this machine
If a retail license it can be moved to another computer but only installed on a machine at any time
read the information on the underside of microsoft link abour faq for vista activation
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/activating-Windows-frequently-asked-questions
How many times can I install Windows on my computer before I have to activate Windows again? You can reinstall Windows on the same computer as many times as you want because activation pairs product key of Windows with information about your computer hardware. If you make a significant hardware change, you may need to activateWindows once again.
for your office activation issues, you will need to ask in the forum link below office activation because this forum is for vista installation issues
normally, if you have any problems with vista or office activation you would use the phone activation

Vista Search & indexing does not work
When I go to Control Panel/Indexing Options/Advanced/show Options all the locations of some files are to check, but the OS(c:) est grisée.) I had turned off at the same time & now cannot get it turned back on.
How to make this work?
Why indexing taking so long?
Why can't stop indexing or turn it off for awhile (it interferes with other programs sometimes)?
Why seek complex with a bunch of drop downs and it usually does not even get just a subfolder. I searched (using the F command) 3 letters in a title only and got a response from an area not indexed that contains NONE of the letters, and it took several minutes. @!
Some MS answers say to use the troubleshooting Index feature, but it doesn't seem to be indexing window.
HelloThese two showed more problems of search for Windows 7, however, they also seem to be
able to affect Vista as well.
1. one thing that seems to have an impact on several is the bit REACH has been set on some files
Index cannot be set and search for cannot be found. So the ATTRIB-a *. * bps, which means archive
is REMOVED for the files in the folder/directory Parent (top) and those in all the subfolders/sup-
directories.Check out this link.

2 another problem seems to be McAfee and some other antivirus programs are interfering with the
Index or search functions. McAfee, must be uninstalled using the uninstall routine in
Windows AND the removal of McAfee too of course no remains are left. (Possibly other antivirus
programs are also what causes this error.) Of course, you want to move to another antivirus

Windows Vista Ultimate Media Center does not work
Hello world
When I open media center units it stops down in a few seconds indicating "...". has encountered a problem and must close. ». This happens every time. I am running Vista Ultimate SP2, latest drivers etc. I ran sfc/scannow as suggested in another post and also a reconstruction of the MC data store also proposed; with the same result.

Please can someone help, I upgraded to ultimate business so I have a MC, and he never worked :(!
Thank you very much

Greetings!
I have a laptop wireless problem Vista Ultimate on a domain that has a strange behavior when taken off site. Of course, I'd appreciate some thoughts on what could be the problem.
When the laptop is used internally, it works normally and is used by two people. Person "A" is the main user, person "B" is a secondary user who connects is rare. Domain authentication works normally and thankfully.
Sometimes, however, when the laptop is taken off site and brought in a different wireless network do not have access to the field, strange behavior of logon follows.
When the person 'A' tries to connect, they receive two messages:
"The system event Notification Service failed to logon"
"The trust relationship between this computer and the primary domain failed."
Yet moments later, what person 'B' opens a session on the same laptop in the same place, the logon succeeds and the laptop runs normally.
Presumably, the two openings of session would be finished via the credentials cached, so there is no reason at all to imagine that each account should be treated differently. However, it is precisely the situation that I see. Something is apparently originally person 'A' logon to be handled in an unusual way, I can't explain or stop.
When this laptop is returned to its primary location, resumed normal operation, all users can perform normal logons domain-based, and no errors occur.
If it was simply a problem of not being on the same wireless network and by far the field, I expect to see something in the sense of a message «could not domain controller be contacted...» ", but this is never; and he would likely by all users, no not one. It behaves almost as if caching credentials for the person 'A' are corrupt or non-existent, neither of which is logical.
Other portable computers used by many people (using various combinations of XP, Vista and Windows 7) and taken offsite have * never * experienced this problem. They operated with credentials cached just like you would expect.
I suppose that a complete reconstruction could solve the problem, but I prefer not to go nuclear on this particular area if it is not necessary. There must be an if explainable, eccentric, the mechanism at work here cause this problem.
Thank you very much in advance for the help.
-David

Cannot find file Vista Start Search
I want to search for a phrase in a file .doc that I know, that I have updated over the past two months. File folder advanced search Vista don't give as much detail (used to do under XP).
I read it is supposed to be an option of advanced search on the sidebar (not the bottom) to start but I do not have this option.
I would appreciate your help to find this "big hunt" as it is called "Windows Vista for Dummies".
I am running Vista Home Premium 64-bit.
