Records of 'must have' of roaming profiles

Hello

We are currently setting up profiles for our mobile sales. The main problem is that the roaming profiles Dungeon above the profile storage space. I was wondering if anyone could tell me which are the files 'must have' that should be included in a roaming profile? For example do we really need to include all the files in the Application data and local settings? (The "My Documents" FYI have already been excluded because they are redirected to another server). Any help or links that will direct me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

Paula

Local settings is not normally included in the roaming profiles. It contains the folders temp and Outlook mailstore, which tends to make it big.

Application data tend to contain settings for specific programs, so you should evaluate on the basis of what is used on your site. However, it excludes in its entirety could lead to problems in some cases.

Another one, I'd say WinDirStat as a useful tool to find the space where goes.

http://WinDirStat.info/

What is the roaming profile, I find that many customers seem to think they should automatically "have their own files" no matter where they log - on, but at the same time don't need exercise no clean what they store and where. I say while it's functionally a case to expect to have your bread buttered on both sides and get to eat! In practice some policy decisions to do in regard to if the roaming profile path is applicable to your site and if so how much users is likely to comply with its constraints. If they can not do it then I suggest that this is not a good path to follow, especially since the oversized profiles will lead to very slow logons.

Also, keep in mind that you're in headaches for real, if you want to introduce Windows 7 computers - profiles are not compatible, and what is happening here is that the roaming user develops a split personality.

  • Roaming profiles, Outlook, Windows 7, Server R2 2012 2016

I am building a new network with server 2012, Windows 7 Pro clients running Office 2016.

I have configured roaming profiles on the server and testing now with limited success.

I started by dropping a small test file to the desktop, disconnected, connected to another machine, and here are the file. Great!

I make a change to the file, log out and then log a new machine (where the test user is not connected previously on) and the file is there, Great!

If I disconnect and reconnect the first machine, the file is still there but it does not show the changes I've done more recently, is not so great.

The second part of the problem is that Outlook profiles seem NOT work completely.

Following the suggestion by another post, I removed and reinstalled Office on a single machine, created an Outlook profile then disconnected.

then turn it on again for another machine, everything seemed fine. I have created a signature on the second machine, disconnected, then back to the first. No signature :-(

It seems to be is not quite compatible.

Can someone tell me the areas that I should look at?

  • Correct configuration of roaming profiles on a WIN NT Server?

I'm trying to implement roaming profiles with a Windows NT 4.0 Server and a computer Win XP Pro. I created the account via the 'Users for domains Manager' tool, created a share named "Profiles" to the root of the c: / drive and has joint the XP computer to the domain. When I try to open a session, he said that the administrator group or the current user must have ownership of the folder, and that he "cannot find the local profile." I have granted 'Full control' to all groups, including administrators. I am able to log in with the account, but the changes are not saved when that I disconnect. It created a folder with the user name in the sharing, I put in place, but the error persists even when I delete the folder and start from scratch. The server is named "EVANSERVER" and has a local IP address of 10.0.1.37. The XP computer is named 'EVANSERVERWKSTN' and has an IP address of 10.0.1.38. • ActiveSync with the roaming profile

I can't get Activesync to work with a roaming profile.  It seems he's trying to write a registry key with the synchronization information. If I install from connection to the field he works until I got close the session. So the next time I connect with the same Activesync profile must configure the back and then forgot the synchronization information. If I install it on a local profile with the admin rights it works find each time. But then I log in the field and I have the same problem.  I tried to install it in a different directory, but I have the same problem. It's like he attempts to write a registry key and then when the profile comes down from the server as it gets wiped out, or the registry is unable to write, but never gives an error message.  Whenever I log in, it acts as its new software. Is it possible to correct the problem.

  • Home Premium and roaming profiles with WHS

I want to my Home Premium installation to save my profile on and use my profile to my Windows Home Server.  When I go into account management to set my account so that the options are grayed out.
    Issues related to the:
    1. is the ability to configure roaming profiles available in home edition Premium?
    2. If they are, what I am doing wrong?
    3. If roaming profiles are not available, they should be for people with WHS.  Home Premium... Home Server... See the link?

    Hello ChiefTom,

I'm sorry for the delay in answering your question.

You are right. I read the wrong question and thought you want to store your roaming profile on the Windows Home Server. I apologize for the misinterpretation.

However, to answer your question. On a stand-alone computer, be it a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, you can have a local profile.
You must have a network server. She is also grayed out on my local computer, this option is not available.

A profile stored locally is one that is only accessible from the local computer. A roaming profile is stored on a network server and can be accessed from any computer to which a user connects.

Here's a thread on the Windows Home Server forum dealing with roaming profiles. Roaming profiles are not available in the Windows Home Server. I believe that the development team focuses on this feature. They give a kludgey solution that can help you.

  • No roaming profile tile problem windows 8 no clear pattern of how and why.

Hi I have a fairly extensive network of windows pc 8

I noticed a strange problem which does not seem to follow any particular model.
When a new roaming user connects to a windows pc, 8 who was not already a profile they receive the message 'Hi' and the implementation of the etc pages once they see the new tiles page which is fine.
However sometimes a new user will register in the "Hi" is displayed and set up takes a lot of time and when it finishes the new user has only 2 tiles... Internet explore and tile office!  If the user logs on to another computer, they may or may not have the tiles appear... This suggests that it is a local problem in the users on the c: folder.
As I said this happens randomly with new users and this is quite annoying because it doesn't seem to be any idea why it does.
    Is this a bug?

I found a way to fix it.

1 log in as a user to discover that no tiles are present
    2. close the session
    3 log in as administrator
    4 open System
    5. open user profiles
    6 remove the user profile
    7. close the session
8 open troubled as a user session
    9. the tiles are back!

    10. close the session

    11. open a session as administrator of PC

    12. open CMD as administrator

    10. run sfc/scannow from the command prompt and set the PC settings store tiles.

The problem was when I used a 3rd third party tool called delprof2... I guess that the profiles were not removed correctly. Infact delprof2 corrupts the tiles from the local profile. This causes problems with the tiles does not not like laptop settings and store.

You may ask why use delprof2? Well well the reason why I used delprof2 is that there are in the region of 100 profiles to delete and just, that takes too much time on each PC using the system / profile section... I don't know any alternative.

So for correct (after execution of delprof2), it appears that you must first connect and see missing tiles then disconnect you and go as an administrator and delete the profile via the option of system profiles and then open a session as a troubled user...

I really want to do underground work for us, because I can see the benefits of a beautiful beautiful screen with all work related icons at a push of a button, but the amount of problems, I hit when an area is absolutely crazy... makes me want to go back to the Start button...  At least with the Start button, you can easily add shortcuts... Unlike the subway tiles it is almost impossible to customize metro layouts over a wide area without tools such as oblytile...
My conclusion is that it seems metro tiles are related to the local profile on the c: drive of each individual computer which is a little annoying when you have to hundreds of computers. It would be nice if metro settings have been configured on users roaming profile on the server.

I'm getting the impression that Windows 8 was never designed for a corporate network * DUHH * and the metro is simply to home computers / tablets / mobile phone (consumers).

    Which is a shame.

But I'm not giving up on hope...!

  • Slow connection, non-persistent desktops... of roaming profiles?

OK everyone I have a good, we use view 4.0.1 build-233023 and when we use no sticky Windows XP Pro 32-bit desktop computers, we run into the question of a slow connection during the period where Windows applies the user 'custom settings '.  The delay is not terrible, but it will cause colic.  I'm assuming that this delay occurs because the user does not have a profile on the newly created virtual machine.

We experimented with roaming profiles AD and so far there is no help.  Does anyone have ideas to avoid the "custom setting event?  We would really like to non-persistent work stations, like those persistent management is not really feasible in view 4.0.

    Thanks for the help everyone!

I had this problem and it took me about two months to get my picture gold until I was satisfied by the research, the trial & error and much rebuilt.

I used a combination of non-persistent computers, folder redirection, of roaming profiles and I have disabled all the tricks of custom setting (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/238441) and now my pictures are very alive and work perfectly for my environment (school).

I suppose that you have set records in your goldy and optimized it for sodomy.  Because before I did that my image has been sluggish on login.  The performance difference between my old image and the new image is like night and day.

    Good luck!

  • Efforts to control the size of the roaming profile Cache does not properly.

We run a RDSH R2 2008 environment and we have set the maximum size of the Cache size to roaming profile for 26 GBS, but our roaming profile cache is never fall below designated size limit.

We see evidence that lsasrv with actually deletes profiles that he scored as older and it will work four to five times, but the documentation suggests that it will continue to operate until the volume is less than the specified cache size, and our does not do that.

We do not see anything to fix or adjust and find having to police manually servers to keep enough free space to accept connections.  If we don't keep our guard, users get connected with a local profile and the REO event will show that profile has not been charged because of insufficient disk space.

Any suggestion would be appreciated, as we struggle with this one problem in a deployment by also wonderful to RDSH.

  • Server 2008, XP roaming profiles and "cannot create a file when that file already exists"...

    Hi all

I'm working on a Server 2008 domain with XP SP3 clients.  The question is: create a new user, their profile is \\server\profiles\%username% [where %nom user % is their new username!].  Security on the profile folder is set so that the administrators have full access and the user has read & execute, list folder content, read and write access.

The user is able to login ok there is no problem with roaming profiles [otherwise, they would get a message on with a temporary profile loading] which suggests, but when they disconnect they get a message saying that some files could not be created [it varies], followed by "cannot create a file when that file already exists".

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • It is a group policy setting that allows Silverlight store data for a roaming profile user limited account?

We have customers that use our Silverlight application. Application off because errors that the software is not able to store data about user roaming profile folder. So far, developers have a setting which allows the application to be listened to, but that makes it real slow. We try to get out of that. So my question is there a group policy setting they are system administrator can setup to allow Silverlight to store data for a roaming profile user limited account? Maybe allow data to be written locally only to the specific folder that requires Silverlight?

    Thank you!
