Recovering files of the T60 with a broken winXP installation

Hello everyone, I'm saving the files from one especially deceased ThinkPad T60 Window XP. The T60 has a fingerprint reader, and I was crazy enough to put files in a secure volume.

When I start Windows, it gets as far as the start screen and crashes then it with bike constantly the progress bar. I created a set of rescue & Recovery CD (actually two games, a serious on CD and a serious DVD) when I initially bought the laptop, but they do not contain the files I want to retrieve (that were created at a later date). When I try to run R & R starting at a set of disks, R & R software will open to the main screen, but in a few seconds (or at most a minute, but in no way I am able to actually use the diagnostic/recovery tools effectively) the system freezes up tight and will not even for CTRL-ALT-DELETE.

I also tried to remove the SATA HDD and put it in an external USB box. The disc is recognized when it is connected to another computer, but I can't access the files because they are locked inside this secure volume.

Finally, I also tried to start with a standard XP installation CD to see if running a chkdsk /r (after you select the repair option on the first screen) would help and get past the XP splash screen. Unfortunately, after loading all the drivers, etc., the recovery console Windows XP says it can't find all the disks to repair. I guess that's because there is no such thing as the secure volume for what is an OEM XP disk is.

I guess I could try something with a Linux LiveCD or something, but because the files I want are locked inside a secure volume I don't know who's going to make me still to come.

I have the administrative password WinXP wrote down, so if there is there a tool that will allow me to open my files using this password, I'm in good shape.

Any ideas? I really want to recover these files. I don't like about installing XP itself, and in fact I intend to format the HARD drive and install OpenSuse as soon as I brought back my files.

I managed to recover my files.

I booted into Windows and press F8 to bring up the Safe Mode option (I thought I had already tried this before, but I guess I've forgotten). I had hoped once in Mode safe, I'd be able to pull the files off the SecureDrive.vol (mapped to drive R :), but I guess there are some drivers or services that don't load in Mode safe so that windows does not even see the a: drive at all.)

But I was able to run a chkdsk/r, which took place during the next reboot. It took two tries to it (chkdsk froze the machine on the first run through), but chkdsk found and fixed a lot of errors and I was able to connect to Windows XP. I pulled all my files on a USB key, and literally within 30 seconds the system frozen solid again.

Running the diagnostics of a Lenovo PC Doctor bootable CD, I discovered this fujitsu 100 GB drive is riddled with errors. So I might try some kind of low-level format to try to clean it up before installing a new copy of OpenSuse 11.2. Any recommendations for rehabilitation and repair in shape this drive?

    Hi mandyXH,

    Step 1:

    You can try to use an external monitor and check if it helps.

    Move windows between multiple monitors

    Step 2:

    Because you have made a new computer and want to move the data to the new machine, you can try to copy files and folders to an external hard drive and then move it to the new machine and see if it works or not.

    Step 3:

    You can also use the easy transfer cable easy to move files and settings from one operating system to another operating system.

  • Search for all the screws with a broken arrow run

    I have a VI that search all screws in memory, and I want to modify it so that it lists all the screws with a broken arrow run. How can you check by an arrow of broken execution program? I couldn't find it in the properties of the VI.

    You can use the VI 'Execution.State' property to check the status of the vi, if the VI is broken, you will get the State as 'Wrong'

  • HP G71 recovering files once the motherboard is dead

    My HP g71 mother died.  I would like to get the files on the hard drive.  The G71 primer not at all.  No error but screen black nothing.  If I get out the hard drive is a cart or stand that I can use to allow me to connect to the hard drive for my urgent files out of it.  Thank you

    Of course

    There are a lot of boxes of hard drive replacement or docking stations that you can use. The docking station is easy. You even don't need to install the hard drive with a docking station. Connect the docking station to another outlet PC in HDD mobile and you recover data. It's as simple as that. If you have a newer PC with USB 3.0 ports, be sure and buy a higher type USB 3.0 for its data transfer speed.

    I met this BSOD error several times, and the following fix usually (not always) allows the hard disk to be read by the system...

    -Boot your system and access the BIOS Setup
    -It will vary with different systems, but try to press "F2", "F10" or "delete".
    -If you need help with this step, let me know the model of the system, and I'll see what I can come up with
    -In the configuration of the BIOS, looking something like "Device Boot Configuration"
    -Go to the hard disk configuration and change the current option
    -Here are the most common options that I can think of:
    -SATA IDE, AHCI, (newer systems have more options, such as IRRT)
    -If the current option is "SATA", change it to "AHCI" or "IDE".
    -If the current option is 'DCIS', change it to "IDE", etc...

    It's just a quick run through a possible fix, without knowing the details of your system!  If you need more detailed help, I would like to know the details of the system, and we'll see what we can do!

  • Problems of transfer of files on the laptop with USB - Satellite Pro L100

    I have a Topfield Freeview box that connects to my Toshiba Satellite Pro L100 via a very short USB cable. The box can read MP3s that I add via the USB connection.

    My previous laptop added to hundreds of songs without any problem at all. However, this new Toshiba there are very particular problems.

    I can send files of the TNT box to the laptop via USB with no problems, but if I try to send files (for example an MP3) Unlike - laptop box - it stutter and often fail. From time to time an entire song (only 4-5 MB) may be transferred without problems, but normally, it will not work. As I said, I can send 100 MB s, the other direction and everything works fine.

    I tried transfer MP3s from my laptop and on the TNT housing with non-Toshiba laptop from a friend today and worked well. This collaboration with knowing I could do the same with my old laptop, suggests that the problem is clearly with the laptop. There must be a reason this notebook can transfer information via USB in a much better than in the other direction.

    Is there anything I can do to upgrade drivers or software to allow my laptop works properly?

    [Edited by: admin]

    I put t know why this happens and I can only suggest.
    For example on my laptop when something be transferred from an external source laptop and another way the software Anti Virus check all files and so it takes much more time.

    I just disabled the anti scan antivirus and firewall and the transfer was going faster.

    Eventually he s has the same problem on your laptop

  • List of the files in the dir with the common name [JS] folder?

    I'm probably getting on the nerves of the everybodies now - and I know I should try harder to convince my boss to let me "Scripting InDesign CS3/4 with JavaScript" - by my Savior on several occasions Peter Kahrel. I know, I know.

    I only snapped Applescript (roughly), now I have to go cross-platform, and I'm a JS noob.

    All that being said... I can't try to file requests that all start with the same 8 digit number in a specific folder.

    In Applescript, I was able to use:

    the value servergraphics to (name of every file in the graphicpath folder whose name starts with adCID) as a list

    This has created a list of graphic files that I can match against.

    Now, I have tried every way I can think to duplicate this line in JS - nothing works.

    Should I declare an array that contains the calculation?

    Thanks in advance - new

    var Folder = folder ("/ drive / file /");

    Uses of the var = theFolder.getFiles ();

    theResult var = [];

    Assuming 8 sequence of numbers is a static number.

    You can also use grep to match 8-digit >

  • Needed help with operations IO file on the playbook with the air.

    I'm working on this playbook app where I can download a file (a zip file) from a site and then open it on the playbook. Before starting my work on this I learned Adobe air and created the same on this, because I heard that the playbook supports Air.

    So can we create air objects on the playbook, for example
    var file is new air. File (Path);

    Then the getDirectoryListing(), resolvePath(), it is usable on the playbook since an api for file on the playbook IO operations, I guess that has not been developed.
    Thank you.

    You want to

    flash.filesystem import. *;

    so to find a way, there

    var dataFile:File = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath ("yourData.File");

  • How do I create a small PDF file for the web with fonts embedded in the InDesign files?

    How can I actually "convert" my files of 100 pages, produced magazines in InDesign (300 dpi, CMYK, prepress ready images) to PDF size reasonable to publish on the web. I tried "smaller" size of the file in Acrobat, but it does not incorporate the fonts and images are very unclear. I tried printing of high quality, but the file size is too large (100 + MB). Can someone point me in the right direction? My company said I need to get a PDF (below 38 MB) file to the webmaster to display. I asked the administrator of the site - he had no idea of converting to InDesign.  Thank you!

    You can start the press or high-quality Print PDF you make when you run the optimizer, as both will be incorporated, fonts and images high resolution. You don't want to have courses for your magazine of font substitution.

    If you have converted the images to CMYK before placing them, it matter which two presets you used for the base file, but if it's RGB, high quality print Prest will abandon them this way, which will also result in a smaller file. You can also convert the CMYK to RGB in Acrobat, if necessary. Do this before you re - sample.

    Dear Sir.

    If you can auto discontinuous batches in a single file depends on the printer driver. Check the printer manufacturer's documentation, or the forum.

  • How to recover files from the hard disk recovery partition?

    There are recovery (D) on the hard disk.  How can I recover all my old files and programs of this drive?

    Original title: I changed from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 operating systems.

    Hello sdf361,

    The recovery partition, that is what you would use to restore your computer when you bought it with the OS on it
    that was pre-installed. It is not your old programs and data on it. You will need to backup your data to restore and install
    your programs since the original installation discs.

    If you do not have the program disk, I suggest that the manufacturer of the computer.

  • Download the file from the internet with plug cover data.

    I've successfully taken used data to upload an image or a pdf. But I do not understand what I have to change to download a zip file. I read that it is possible to download a .zip with data file, but I don't know how.

    Usually, when you open a Web site there is a hyperlink leading to a pop up asking where you want to store the data. It is possible to store the data programmatically?

    Maybe I just need a url for making data work.

    I have attached my code.

    Would be great if someone could help me.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones download Word files on the BB with device software 4.5

    Hello. I just upgraded my HH to 4.5 and our BES to 4.1.6. (Bundle38). I myself have sent an email with a Word attachment to test. When I tried to download the file on my HH, I received this message: "you are about to download a file that cannot be played on your Blackberry device. Continue? "I clicked 'Yes' and it looks like it's uploaded in the documents folder. When I opened the file, nothing here? I missed a step or what? Thank you!

    You will not see "dataviz' listed anywhere on your BB... Look at Options > Advanced > Applications and find DocumentsToGo?

    If not, reopen the Desktop Manager > Application Loader and find the Advanced button and check DocumentsToGo.
