Recovery discs and product keys?

My laptop came with no recovery disc and began to play up if I want to erase everything and leave. The disks of backup that have been made are only records do not and do not let me recover the system. Can I use a disc of recovery from another PC, but enter the product key for the laptop? My two machines running Vista Home premium. The disc of recovery for a Dell desk top and my laptop is a Sony. Is it still possible to interchange the recovery discs? I have to download different drivers for the laptop before you erase the hard drive? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. Gary.

Hello

Sorry, but you cannot use a recovery disk on a Sony Dell.

This applies to all of the different brands.

And if you have problems with the backup disks you made, read this information toreinstall Vista:

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

See you soon.

  • How to recover my computer to factory settings? How to buy recovery discs and which ones?

I recently bought a used computer on craigslist.  It's a HP Pavilion a6700f.  He came originally with Vista, but the previous owner installed Windows 7 32 on it.  I want to put it back to factory settings, but I can't seem to do it without the recovery disks, which I did not.  I have tried F11 at startup, but the system recovery won't be open in this way for a reason any.  I tried to buy HP recovery disks, but they only for Windows Vista 64-bit.  I'm not sure if my computer came with Vista 64 bit or -34, although she has 34 bit Windows 7 right now.  How can I recover the computer to factory settings?  Can I buy the Vista 64-bit recovery discs and use them?  Will they work?  Thank you.

    Hello

The command system will work for you given that provide you the product id of your machine. Please use the following link, it should tell you that the original operating system:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/bph07143

    Good luck.

ps. Based on the following link, its original operating system was:

Windows Vista Edition Home Premium with Windows Media Center with Vista Service Pack 1 (64-bit)

Therefore, it should work with 64 bit.

I have recived portable computer of the Government with windows pre installed 7professional but now I want to format and reinstal it I require the startup disk and product key (my OS is authentic)

If it's a copy of volume license installed, you will need to contact your employer to find the product key and get the installation files.

If it is preinstalled at the factory with Windows 7 Professional, then use the recovery partition to reinstall Windows 7.

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

This is how the recovery partition is accessible to most popular brands...

For Dell, press CTRL + F11 directly after switching on the device

For HP, press F11 directly after switching on the device

For LG, press F11 directly after switching on the device

For Toshiba, press and hold "0" BEFORE and during the power upward

For Acer, press and hold ALT + F10, as soon as you see the logo

For Asus, press F9, as soon as you see the Asus logo.

For Samsung, press F4 to the power upward...

For Fujitsu, press the F8 key directly after the power

Advent, restart your computer. Then, press F10 repeatedly until the message "Starting system recovery"

Sony VAIO, reboot and press "F8" or "F10" repeatedly until the screen "Advanced Boot Options".

You will need to get both if you want to reinstall Windows on your computer.  The key is in your Windows system, if it can be started and run, by using a utility such as Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder.  With respect to the disk, your computer manufacturer may be able to provide one for you.

    Really need help here

    Hello Lauren,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community Forums.

If your computer came pre-installed with Windows 8, then using the recovery disk don't ask for the product key. The product key of Windows 8 on new machines is now integrated into the motherboard. It uses the Secure Boot technology.

If the user has to reinstall the operating system on a computer with Windows 8, the installation process automatically captures key software product of the motherboard BIOS without input from the user. If you have an OEM computer that is preinstalled with Windows 8, then you must contact the manufacturer of the computer that the computer broke down recently so that they can help you.

If your computer came pre-installed with Windows 7, then you must install Windows 7 first and then upgrade to Windows 8.

Response with the State of the question and we will be happy to offer you our help.

  • HP 250 G4: Recovery Window10 needs product key?

    Hello world

    I have a HP 250 G4 with pre-installed Windows 10.

On this pc I need to have Linux as well, so I have released the space and created a partition using disk management in Windows and Linux (Fedora) installed on the free partition.

Now the pc will only start on Linux, but I can see and access the Windows disc, so it's still there.

The Windows Boot Manager gives the following error:

    File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: Boot your pc configuration data is missing or contains errors.

To resolve the error, he suggested to insert the installation disk, I did not.

I download the ISO image of www.microsoft.com/it-it/software-download/windows10ISO

Should I have the product key for my windows? If so, how can I get it?

    Thanks for the tips

The product key is encoded in BIOS.

You can use a generic installation if necessary key. Once you are able to start Windows again and go online, the operating system will activate itself, since the laptop already has a digital entitlement on the Microsoft activation servers.

You can get the keys to generic installation of the following web document. http://winaero.com/blog/generic-key-to-install-Windows-10-RTM/

Did you create a recovery usb Windows key until you are any changes to the partition?

I'm curious to know the reason why you did not appear using VMWare to run a virtual Linux operating system instead of physically install the operating system.

    Hello

    I put t understand.
Toshiba Recovery disk is already activated and there is no option to enter the serial key.
If you use the recovery disk Toshiba that will ask you not to enter keys!

The serial at the bottom of the device key belongs to the Toshiba installed the Windows operating system and cannot be used with other versions of Windows.

Hi, I asked for a set of recovery disc for my HP Pavilion a6863w. He was answered, and have provided a link where to get the recovery disks. However, I was wondering if there was a set of upgrade of these recovery disks that has windows 7 or even 8 windows also. I don't know if it's possible, but I'd rather have atlkeast of windows 7 since hp is obsolete and my HP has Vista but Vista is next on the chopping block to be supported and eventually dropped. Any help and suggestions are welcome. Thank you

    Hello

Sorry, you can get a HP Win 7 set for your PC recovery disc because it comes with Vista, as the preinstalled operating system.

Win Vista is supported extended until April 2017. Win 7 is covered until January 2020.

You will need to purchase an install of Win 7 OEM supplier online disc.

  • Number and product key Office 2007

Hey I bought a Toshiba P300/P300D series and having a bit of trouble setting up.
Basically, I started to write a story on Microsoft Word 2007 and he often drew my attention to the fact that I have to put in a number of product key.

So all the time I used it on an experimental basis and non-commercial. I find finially the 25 product key numbers, on the bottom of the laptop, but it is not valid.
Really confused and frustrated as the trial expires on 31 October and I could lose my job.

The fact I havn't registered my laptop have anything to do with it?

That you have located on the underside is the key of Vista and has nothing to do with Office 2007.

What you have is the trial version, and if you want to use it without limitation, you must purchase this product. This means that you need the right key activations. You can buy it online.

    All that s!

  • Free HP Win7 upgrade, lost disk and product key, do wat?

I would like to install the Win7 64 bit I got from HP through its free update of the vista program in 2009 on a new SSD for HP. However, I realized that since my computer came with vista, the product key vista stuck on the side of my computer probably isn't the right pair to install Win7 64-bit.

Is it possible for me to get the product key for Win7 64 bit HP? Thank you.

If you have lost the disk key and/or product... There is nothing that HP can do for you. The upgrade was administered by a third party, and it is likely that HP does not have this information.

If you have an active Windows 7 installation of this drive and key, you will be able to recover the key using a utility that can be found on the internet. Apart from that, really look hard for the disk and key.

  • product code and product key are not the same...

i solve this application system 32 product code #. the only thing I found on the bottom of the laptop near that long is the product key and it is not long enough.  where can I find the "product code"?

What is the 'solve this system"and where did you find (link, please)?

What is the exact wording of the message you are trying to answer to?

The term "product code" is often loosely used to mean several different things, so the context and the wording of the exact message are important.

    For your information...

Usually, the number on the holographic label on the bottom of your laptop is the license key Windows of 25 characters (xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx).  Do NOT publish this type of key in this forum or anywhere else online.

Sometimes you will see a reference to a "product ID" or product code.  It is usually a number of 20 characters according to this format: xxxxx-yyy-zzzzzzz-zzzzz.  This identifies the version of Windows.  On a computer 'brand', the second group of characters is OEM, as in 55274-OEM-zzzzzzz-zzzzzzz.  In this example, the 55274 refers to a generic version of XP Pro OEM.

Microsoft Office programs use a product code of 32 characters or a Globally Unique ID (GUID) such as
    {WXYYZZZZ-6000-11 D 9 3-8CFE-0050048383C}.
