Recovery Vista system on the partition BACK D Dell laptop?
My boss PLOPPED his laptop at home, a Dell Inspiron with Vista, on my desk and said, "he's dead, set." He did not apparently come with system recovery discs, and it's never a set. It's blue screen, the only way I could get it to boot is to insert an old Dell/Windows XP cd. I started to reformat the C drive to load XP, then remember "Oh no, it's a Vista machine!," I did not take the last step and load XP on drive C. I managed to get to the prompt of the drive D, where I can see what I think are the original Vista recovery files, but I don't know how what to do to make them run. F8 and F11 do not work. I'm not afraid to enter commands BACK of D, I don't know what to enter. Help, please.
Hello

Recovery software data and the partition for Vista?
I have a HP desktop computer that started having problems starting. Startup Repair couldn't fix, but showed "no OS installed. I guess it's a corrupted MBR/MBT problem.
In any case, I made the fatal mistake assuming that Vista has the same functionality of XP restore/recovery and would simply repair the file system not complete format/reinstall. Within two seconds, I realized that it was reformatting the drive and disconnected from the computer (because you can't give up a recovery).
Now, of course, the player starts not at all and displays "No MBR". I removed the disk and put it in an external USB box to see the content. It only shows a new Windows and a few other folders with one or two files system in them.
Anyway, I know that all the old data has been not overwritten in 2 seconds, if it is still there. Not to mention, HP no longer ships of installation disks of Windows and preload in place of the images in a separate partition. I need to recover this option to re - install Vista, in the worst case scenario.
So, I need/file recovery at least get software partition all my data. There are a hundred apps out there, and it is difficult to tell which are the best (they are quite expensive). I can't find any reputable sites that do an actual test on the Soft full - for example, C/Net only tests the features of the limited demo version.
At the very least, I would like to recover my lost data on an external drive, then recover if possible, the installation of Vista partition and do a clean install on the disk.
Are there apps free open source reliable and easy to use? So far, I am considering

Use Knoppix Live CD to try to recover your data:
http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Download the Vista software from the link above.
After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.
Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.
See you soon.
Relocation of recovery vista after erasing the hard drive with DBan
Pavilion dv6707us laptop, Vista Home Premium 32 bit
I deleted the whole hardrive, including the recovery partition D with DBan. Unfortunately, the recovery disks that I made will not restore Vista. They work up to "Restoring presets. Is there anyway to make this work without the recovery partition D? If I order at hp recovery disks they will give me a full recovery or will I have the same problem without partition D?
Thank you
recovery media ordered from HP has nothing to do with the partition d. recovery media a full OS, drivers, and applications. This HP support removes all partitions and restore the device to factory settings (no data for sure).
If you have trouble using media, created by you, please order one at HP.
It will be useful.
Recovery of files from the partition
my computer would not start even in safe mode, but I have accessed via F8 which gave me the opportunity to back up my files and windows resotring. However now that Vista is up, I can't find my files that have been saved! What I do do... am I totally screwed? Thanks, Chris
Hello
Check with the manufacturer of your system and their forums support (if any) because they all have their own methods
to preserve all data. If all goes well, it has been saved. When you backed up the files ask or tell you the
location such as another partition or he asked a removable media such as a CD or DVD?I hope this helps.
The methods and capabilities to connect wireless depend more material especially involved and software/drivers for the said material. I could suggest your friend update that make drivers for hardware devices for their particular & model of wireless device and see if that helps to connect to your network.
