(Redirected) Brand new XPS 8700 DOA

Just received via FedEx, out of the box, wired keyboard/mouse, monitor, then power cord. Tried to power on and nothing. Fan starts and stops and the system goes into a loop, trying to power. Called support (you must be kidding me!) had to do the online chat to get the return authorization. Got the UPS label, he has attached to the box and shipped this puppy in return. I've been a user of Dell since 1990-1991 and that you have upgraded to new systems, every 3 to 4 years. Never again.

  • Brand new XPS 8700 desktop black screen

Hello world. I have a big problem with my desktop computer. I just got my computer a week ago. I had problems with a black screen for a while. I read on the site of dell desktop XPS 8700 computers have problems with this (something on the cube map) and he said that updating the BIOS solves this problem, well it's not.

My computer wont even start until now. All I get is a black screen. I don't know what else to do.

    Hello

I called Dell and we arrived after that the problem was a default video card. They helped me very well and tomorrow I should get my new video card.

    Thank you for responding!

  • How to get to the BIOS on new XPS 8700?

How to get to the BIOS on new XPS 8700?

This is a brand new machine with Win 8.1, a SSD boot drive, etc.

I need to get in the BIOS so that I can prepare for the recovery with Acronis backup program. This program will generate a recovery disk or flash drive. If my boot drive does not start, I will use the recovery point, but I need to have the BIOS first try to start from that before the C drive.

Reading messages on the Acronis forum, I heard for the first time on UEFI - I barely understand what it is - but apparently, a replacement for the BIOS?

Is it likely that my new machine has UEFI rather than a BIOS? and how do to it? Press a function button for the system to start? A person on the Acronis forum suggested to win 8.1 to restart and hold the SHIFT key while doing.

I do not experiment on my PC unless I am sure it is the right method. This is my 4th Dell-all previous versions came with a manual that could give me the answer to a question like that.

The "missing manual" is perhaps on the Dell website?

    Joe

    Your system is UEFI.

As the UEFI systems start very quickly, you start typing (do not hold) F2 as soon as you power on open configuration. Otherwise, it will just start normally from the hard disk.

Alternatively, you can start to type F12 as soon as you turn on that should give you a start with options menu to boot from the optical drive or USB. Note: To boot from USB FlashDrive bootable is connected before you turn on the system, otherwise it does not appear as an option in the menu of F12.

See page 82 in the Manual.

Brand new XPS 8900 Win 10 won't turn on, flashes yellow 2 times power made a break of 7 times pauses then resumes.

I've not seen a chart explaining flashing power on the 8900 XPS button codes. And there is nothing in the Manual.

You need to contact Dell tech support immediately. You have 21 days from the date of billing (no delivery date) to pick them up. And then you can order another.

Otherwise, technical support should work with you to solve the problem under warranty on this system.

If you are comfortable working inside the case, it is possible that something got its place potted during shipping. Then you can try reseating the RAM and PCI-e cards modules and cables between motherboard and drives and connection etc. Don't forget to read the instructions on the inside of your PC use in the manual before opening the case.

  • Only brand new XPS 13 no boot device found

Hello, I just received my brand new 13 XPS in the mail today, when I opened and turned it top read "no found boot device, press a key to restart your computer."  After several attempts to reboot and also starting for other boot on the portable devices (' Windows manager and partition itself "none of them have solved the problem.)  From what I understand this, is this a problem with the hardware with the SSD on the laptop? Or is there something I can do which will fix this problem?

Check to make sure that it is in mode UEFI and secure startup is enabled.  If both are set, yes - the ssd is likely bad.  Send the replacement system - it is absolutely useless to have a whole new system of DOA torn apart for repair.

  • Buying a new XPS 8700 or try?

I'm an old customer of Dell. I have 4 generations of Dell Office wrapped around me that I work, which dates back to the Dimension XPS Gen 4, until my last 9100 XPS. I started having a few problems with the 9100, so I started to look at the XPS 8700. After some research, that I started to do a little check of prices in line with other companies with the 8700 then contacting Dell sales department to see if they could wheel & deal, however I found that Dell must have changed their way of doing business since my last purchase 3 years ago this month. Once I've done through the call tree that I gave the seller some of the configurations that I watched, then a few tech questions. The sales rep said I could go to the Dell site to check for any technical question, I might be, that through me for a loop. Previous sales reps were able to advise, recommend, then let me know about special offers which were not on the site, but this sales rep read me on prices higher than those posted on the site, gave any kind of advice & would deal not with the price of the competitor for the same computer. That's happened?

Can someone tell me y at - there a big difference between the i7 gen 3 & gen 4? Also, I wonder if I should stay with Win 7 or go with the 8 to win? Is there a difference in resources between the 2 OS? 7 was great, but I noticed that it costs more to buy the Win 7 8700.

    Hi CaptainKirkRM1,

I think you're a new sales representative because the last of them, I've talked about helped me with any problems. A few times I've been known to wait 5 minutes to get another rep.

I7 is a Quad Core processor. There is not much difference between generation 3 and 4. 4 has better hyperthreading and is the latest model.4 will have a little more power and can run a bit hot for temperature.

If you have not used Windows 8, you can watch the videos of it. It's totally different than previous versions of Windows. It's like a smartphone apps.  We touch screen models available with Windows 8. This page has a lot of Dell videos for you to watch.

    http://video.search.Yahoo.com/search/video?p=Dell+Windows+8+How+to+video

Windows 8 has it's less consume a lot of resources, but it won't matter with I7 quadcore, because you will have a lot of power.

  • New XPS 8700 - cannot properly set resolution

I have a new 8700 XPS with Radeon 7570, that has a DVI - D and HDMI port.  There is also a display port on the motherboard, but I don't have a monitor with a DisplayPort port, so that one is now useless for me; In addition, I want to use the Radeon, so I'm ignoring the video to the mobo.

I have a DVI-D-to-DVI-D cable, I was using on my old system, so I know that the cable is good.

I have a new cable HDMI-to-DVD-D who just today.

I want to drive a Dell 3007WFP (2560 x 1600, and its only entry is DVD - D) as my main screen.  Must it be connected to the HDMI port of the Radeon (via HDMI-DVI-D cable), or the DVI - D port (using the DVI-D-to-DVI-D cable)?

My second monitor is an old but a goodie - Dell (1920 x 1200) 2405WFP.  There D DVI or VGA as possible entries.

So I have a computer with HDMI and DVI - D cables to connect out for each monitor.

I currently work 2405 with the Radeon in 1920 x 1200 (as my secondary display) using the DVI - D - to - DVI - D cable, leaving the HDMI-DVI-D cable for the 3007.

My problem is that I can't drive the 3007 higher than 1280 x 800,-there is no option to keep the higher resolution.  The cursor I get under "Screen Resolution" only goes to '1280 x 800 (recommended) '.  I tried the two cables, and 1280 x 800 is as high as possible.  I reinstalled the Catalyst drivers.  Everything appears in OK (no yellow exclamation) Device Manager.

HOW can I DRIVE a MONITOR 2560-x-1600 OF THE RADEON HD 7570 IN CE XPS 8700?

    * EDIT * I forgot to mention that I got the car that came with 8 Win out and put in a new blank disc perfectly and installed Win 7 (64) business.  What is a driver-install-order problem?  Also, the machine came with BIOS A02 and A03 is common, but I don't see that as being the difference.

Solved.  It WAS apparently a driver-order problem.  "Drivers and downloads" page of Dell is spectacularly counterproductive in terms of describing what are the components (e.g., what they DO).    I took them in this order:

    01 Chipset_Intel_Win_A00_21Y1M_Setup_ZPE.exe

    02 ME_Intel_WIN_A00_Y22PK_setup_ZPE.exe

    03 USB3.0_Intel_Win7_A00_1TH4K_Setup_ZPE.exe

    04 iRST_Intel_Win_A01_Setup - VF6WW_ZPE.exe

    05 GFX_A00_12.102_J47H1_ZPESetup_ZPE.exe

    06 DW1703_Win74_A00_Setup - 217VH_ZPE.exe

    07. LOM_Realtek_Win74_A00_Setup - WP9GX_ZPE.exe

    08 6235BT_Intel_Win74_A00_CR86R_Setup_ZPE.exe

    09 6235WiFi_Intel_Win74_A00_Setup - 4PJGP_ZPE.exe

    10 Audio_Realtek_WIN_A01_313J8 - Setup_ZPE.exe

    11 CardReader_Realtek_WIN_A00_Setup - J76W2_ZPE.exe

And now it works like it should (I can set the resolution 2560 x 1600 widescreen)

  • Advice needed for new XPS 8700

    Hello

My old XPS 8100 bit the dust, and I am currently using an old Inspiron.

I was watching the 'Special Edition' XPS 8700 - good price and specifications, but he offers victory 8.1 with a free upgrade to win10. Other 8700 XPS comes pre-installed with Win10, but the specs are not as attractive.

I'm intimidated by the prospect, not to download and install win10 BUT what scares me, is that the drivers for the video and audio might get all screwed up in the process.

Can you give me advice about what to choose?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jane

    Hi Smiseel,

If you like the specifications for the 8700 Special Edition, buy it. You have until July to free download Windows 10 next. You don't need to worry about installing drivers, you can come back to the forum and we will help you with it.

  • Problems with the new XPS 8700 and upgrades...

    Hello

    I need help!

I just bought an XPS 8700 a week ago (maybe more).

It came with: pre installed with Windows 7 Pro, installation / upgrade disc for Windows 8 Pro

(Pentium 4790 16 GB RAM 4 GB Nvidia GTS 745 VC)

A few days after I ordered an ssd of m Cruscial 480 GB for her, with a WD 1 TB HARD drive.

My problem is centered around the M SSD.

The Crucial SSD of M IS compatible with this system?

I try to set it up and the system hangs.

I can't use ready boost, or it will be BSOD.

I want to load the OS on the SSD m and use the other 2 HDD as data drives.

My other question is: System running Windows 7, but comes with a Win 8 restore disc?

Its rights to licensed Windows Pro 8.1 with downgrade to Windows 7 Professional. You will need make the recovery using Dell backup media and restore your original disc. Theres no need to change the BIOS settings earlier.

After that, remove your hard drive and insert your mSATA SSD. Use the Dell backup and recovery USB to reinstall Windows on the mSATA SSD. Once you are satisfied with the installation of Windows on the drive mSATA remove it and insert the HARD drive, use DISKPART OWN while using your DVD of Windows 8.1. Then insert the mSATA SSD, Windows 7 starter and initialize the HARD disk, implemented as a data reader.

  • New XPS 8700 - no product key sticker?

    Hi all

I just got my new 8700 XPS of FedEx today. I was check your box to admire its design and learn where all the ports when... I noticed there is No sticker of the product key of Windows 8. It is also the Microsoft Certificate of authenticity (from what I've seen). In the past, each computer Dell with Windows 7 or more is shipped with a product label key desktop somewhere he had normally on top of the case and laptops he had under the battery, or just on the bottom of the laptop.

After you call Dell customer service, the representative informed me the product key is embedded in the motherboard. Dell no longer includes a sticker with the product key. I mentioned how it was weird because there is a square area above the service tag label that seems to be specifically for the product key sticker. Yet once, the representative assured me that, if I have to reinstall Windows, installation don't automatically assume the key to the motherboard. The representative was very nice and helpful, no issues here.

There are probably programs out there to recover the product key of Windows 8, so I can write it physically. For this reason, I'm sure I can get the key myself. My two questions are:

1.) can anyone else confirm if Dell is 100% not including stickers product key on their new computers?

2.) any person properly reinstalled Windows 8 with the help of the method of the 'motherboard product key?

    Thank you for your time,
    Ground Knightt

You can use the free Belarc Advisor to see the product key for Windows and all of your other software installed http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html etc.

  • Add the old computer as as 2nd hard drive to new XPS 8700

    Hello

My old computer - Dell Vostro 410 just stopped working so I now have a 8700 XPS.

My problem is that there are some files on my old drive hard vostro that I need. He has been using Windows 7 and the hard drive, I have upgraded to a Western Digital Black Caviar 1 TB SATA.

But the new '' runs on Windows 8.1.  I can't upgrade the old hard drive to the old computer died. Someone at - it ideas how I can get my info from my old to my new drive?

I tried to install the old disk until the 2nd hard drive but the system does not recognize it.

    Any help would be welcome.

    Thank you

Hello and yes I have an answer.

Also, I had a second drive win 7 ult and it went out to install in my new 8700 XPS thing is that I already formatted the disk to work to the point 8.1. He came to light, a UEFI system installed, may fail to start if a secondary drive is attached that contains logical partitions. Of course, this should be an MBR disk configured, but if it has at least one primary and one extended partition, it will stop Windows 7 and Windows 8 start.

To correct this test facility 2nd main drive, then use a boot disk to get the computer running then access the disc to remove files.

  • Brand new XPS 13 "display driver stopped responding and recovered."

Bought a new model of XPS 13 9350 with windows 10 with touch and just literally there for a day... Love everything except for the message that appears when just surfing... just with the exception of this little message that keeps popping up in the taskbar "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"... screen will go black for a second and work again. It happens like every 10 minutes about... sometimes more... sometimes less...

I already try to update the latest driver for the graphics card in the Device Manager... What should I do? Have I not a lemon? I call for assistance? Return this laptop? I don't feel that a 1300 laptop should be having this error on the first day only when you surf. Of course, I paid less because of the sale Black Friday... but still, top of the range Dell XPS should not do this...

Any solution? I love everything on this laptop except for this...

    You need the version 20.19.15.4331.
Load the page Dell drivers or update in Device Manager.

  • New XPS 8700 has Windows 8 loaded on the bad hard drive

I just got a Dell XPS8700 SE with a 256 GB SSD and 2 TB Hard Drive.

I got the 256 GB SSD to run all my programs and also to have windows load quickly to the SSD.

I was under the impression that Windows 8 would be responsible to the SSD.

Is this a mistake? Someone load Windows hard disk bad?

Is it possible to load Windows on the SSD as I want and make the SSD my C drive and open the disc of 2 TB for my files?

    Ken

I called Dell Support and the gentleman helped me to get Windows on the SSD and it seems that I am good to go.
