  If all you need is to update a large number of indicators you can consider to use the reference to the cluster (and avoid using tons of references to simple controls).

  So I've worked to read Excel documents with report generation tool, but realized the document I was trying to read is password protected and requires an update link (PivotTable).

  Searching I found an accessory useful toolkit Joe_H (post #2) http://forums.ni.com/t5/BreakPoint/Excel-Board/m-p/379682 . I try to recreate its VI, but there are some things I don't understand. (I started only working with refnums & variants)

  My Questions:

  1. referring to my 'refnum.png' attachment, black refum automation is copied from example VI and purple is what I tried to do. They have the same ActiveX class, but purple throws an exception error 3005. I can't find the refnum of the black arrow.

  Googling this error, gives a solution, but I can not understand how to use or if it applies to me. http://forums.NI.com/T5/LabVIEW/error-3005-occurred-at-Automation-open-using-ActiveX-RichText-box/TD-...

  2 referring to 'excel.png' for the node invoke - workbooks, how is a person knows how to use the data types variant? For example, WriteResPassword I just tried to use a string and it worked. I noticed that the help info gets thinner when working with property/Invoke nodes.

  I don't know why the difference in colors between the refnums, but I doubt that's the problem. Looks like it's just an artifact weird opening a VI from an earlier version of LabVIEW. If you convert this refnum control to a constant and then again to a control, it will turn pink, but I guess it will always work. Can you show the code showing you how you use this refnum?

  As mentioned nyc, you refer to the Microsoft documentation to determine what kind of data for wire entry variant. There is no documentation of LabVIEW because it is not a component of LabVIEW.

• Cannot create a control or the indicator for a refnum of the display of images in LabView

  I need to move a refnum to a control to display the Image, but find that I can not create a control or an indicator for such refnum.  I can create the refnum without problem, and when I right click on the refnum I gives me the options to create a command or the indicator; However, when I select one of these options no command or the indicator is created.

  I am running XP.  I installed Vision 8.6 at a given time, but had to uninstall because it damaged this control.  I don't know if it affects this type of control to a lower level.

  You can probably do it the hard way by using workaround.  Convert your reference to a Variant or flatten it into a string or cataloged full - some LV allows.  In the Subvi, convert it back into a reference.

  I'm working with TabControl and on each page, I have a control of the ring with the name "Ring01" on page 1, "Ring02" for page 2, etc...

  When I start the primary VI, I initialize these controls ring by including the string table. I wrote a Subvi shown here. It works, but I would like to have your opinion

  Think about it if for example you have a better idea how do.

  Especially in this sub - VI, I select the right refnum control which is the control of page here. I would like to have the same sub - VI with control generic refnum and the Subvi should be what refnum it is. Do you know how to do it.

  Your Subvi sounds good, but I do not understand your last question: VI server is oriented, object, so you must specify a class to use the property and method of this class.

  If you just want to use the default control refnum, perhaps you could use the VI "to a more specific class' to choose the tab class, as in the VI"with the help of more specific function"of this example:

  I write data to a file. To do this, I use ' Open/create/replace the file' to prompt the user for a file name, which is then out of my VI as a refnum. I then write strings in this file with "write to a text file.

  Use the Refnum at the path of e/s from file-> advanced file palette. You can wire it to a path indicator.

• Extraction of text from the strings in a single cell of a row of cells

  Is there an easier way to search a text / word of a string in the row of cells, and where a match is found back a header text - see the example below.

  

  The left table contains the initial positions of conformity in groups of companies. I would like to complete the table on the right with compliance positions indicated in the table on the left, using the header text (red zone). Example 1 shows that "C company" is not in line with the left table and returns a "Non-compliant" in the relevant cell for company C. Example 2 A company, C and Z are in line with the left table and returns "comply" in the relevant cell in company A, C and Z respectively. It goes the same for the partial.

  The lines must also be aligned as shown in the left column will contain a single reference (not shown in the example).

  My current approach was to simply build a small matrix and use IF (COUNTIF ($E5, "* company A *" "'), 'In line'," "") - this works fine, but is a bit messy - obtained above table, it's really what I like o would reach.

  I also tried to use nested 'FI', 'find', 'Index' and 'Match' combinations, based on a few positions at the beginning, but not could not get the correct syntax.

  is there a way of having a cell to display a string numbers, but when this cell is referenced in a formula it will be used as a numerical value? See screenshot.

  Hi all

  Try to pass some of my Excel spreadsheets in numbers. I'd appreciate help with a specific string of text/number in the cells in a column. In the example below (no sheet of complete works) is a column, the packs work (WP01, WP02 and so forth)-which means work packs a particular Test & Validation document (e.g. TV-102) applies to.

  I would like to be able to simple counting the number of occurrences, say "WP05", is applicable. If I use COUNTIF, on the "WorkPack" column, he has only the cells that contain only the string "WP05" (i.e. in the sheet, I work with, I know there are 22 entries for "WP05" in the column of pack work, but only the 14 account)

  Note: I am building this on my MAC, but would like to be able to access and use these sheets on my iPad - don't know if that makes a difference.

  Any suggestions / ideas?

  Here's how I would approach (without more):

  

  Add additional columns to your table (those titled "WP01',"WP02", etc.).  Enter the names as shown

  The first line is a heading row.

  Also... Add an extra line at the end and make a footer row
