RegReadString with 64-bit operating system

Hello

Usually, I use the RegReadString/RegWriteString feature for read and write on Windows Reg system.

It works without problems on Windows Vista and Windows7 32 bit, but under WIndows7 64 Bit does not work.

Example:

#define WIN_KEY "SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion"
iRtrn = RegReadString (REGKEY_HKLM, WIN_KEY, "ProductId", szBuffer, 256, &lSize);)

This example returns normally windows Product ID, but under Win7-64, I got error "registry values is not exist"(-5068). "»

RegWriteString does not work too...

Can you help me?

Thank you

Daniele

Hello Daniele,

An important thing to realize when running a 32-bit on windows 64-bit executable, it's that all registration applications will be redirected by the Wow6432Node.  For some reason, Microsoft chose not to place the product identification information in the redirected location (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion).  Only 64-bit applications are capable of reading from the non Wow6432Node location, where the ID of the product.

Generally, the type of information you're looking for is better recovered through a certain type of script such as VBScript and WMI .  Until the CVI 2009 releases (giving you the ability to create native 64-bit applications) you can retrieve this information in the registry with an application of CVI.

I don't understand what you mean with this statement - please explain.

To recover from all that you have done, you can follow these steps:
    1. Set your BIOS so that it uses the DVD drive as its primary boot device.
    2. Start the computer with your Windows 7 repair CD.
    3. Press a key when prompted to boot from the DVD.
    4. Select 'PC Repair' in the menu.
    5. Select 'Repair' when prompted.
    6. When you are prompted, select System Restore.
    7. Configure Windows to a point before you did what you did.
    8. Plan ahead a little and create, test and document an alternative admin account, same as you have a spare emergency House key. This will save you a lot of trouble.

  • I just bought a new computer.it has windows 7 64 bit operating system, it is good with the exception of my call of duty games running, they used to run very well on my windows vista 32 bit system, what is the problem?

There are video games that are compatible with windows 7 64 bit operating systems?

    Hello Peter.

Yes almost all games in 10 years works perfectly on 64-bit Windows.  What Call of Duty games are you having problems with?  If the first two, you might have to enter the video drivers for your graphics card/computer manufacturer as the first two required OpenGL which is not included with the drivers that Windows uses by default (this has been the case since at least Windows XP).

  • I have problems with IE 9 on my 64-bit operating system.

I have a HP laptop with a 64-bit operating system.  Windows 7 Home Premium SP1.  I understand that it comes with a 64-bit IE9 and IE9 32 bits. I know because I started having a lot of problems with Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave.  Somehow the two IE9s became the 64-bit.  I tried to uninstall IE9 and returned to IE 8 then reinstalled IE9.  I still have the problem, and if someone can tell me how to get these back to usable without restore back to out of the box programs I would be very grateful.

in 64-bit windows, the two IE32 and IE64 versions are included, but IE64 is not intended to be configured as the default browser.  She is more included for purposes of development, however, the average user should not use it and should stick with THE 32-bit

"C:\Program Files (x 86) \Internet" just create a shortcut and PIN to the start menu.

The average end user really should never need to use 64-bit IE and should simply ignore its presence

I read your post with a lot of attention. There seems to be some confusion on your part. I want to arrempt in order to clarify the information so that a good solution might be found for your needs.

The Epson LQ-680 is a matrix printer with a print head 24 pins. It is designed to use a parallel port. This means that its computer interface conforms to the IEEE 1284 specification. This is often referred to as a Centronics parallel port. Series No.

    http://www.Epson.com/cgi-bin/store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&OID=14331&infoType=overview

Thus, because your computer does not have a port for a direct connection, you must use a parallel to USB device.

Not all of these devices are supported printers. Please check the specifications of the device that you use to connect your USB printer and confirm that it supports the printers. It is preferable that it supports bidirectional printing through the device. If it is not the case, getting the arrangements put in place for this printer could be a problem.

    =================

You did not mention whether your machine is a laptop or computer desk/workstration. If the latter, and if she will allow to install PCI cards or PCI-E, install a parallel port card would work more simply.

If you want other help, please let us know the make and model of the parallel to USB device.

I try to run the project for excelreportdemo in CVI2010 on windows 7, 64-bit operating system. I have the Excel2013 installed as well. I chose the build configuration release or debug for 32 bits of the system in order to be compatible to the test for the production platform.

I found a previous discussion in 2007. Unfortunately, it did not help for the same problem on my new machine and CVI2010. Could someone give me help on that.

    Thank you!

I get it worked after that I removed the excelreport.fp in the Menu library customize. The excelreport.fp has been added to the Menu library customize to my other work on the project, which, but had similar problems. It seems CVI is getting better and better, so that you don't need extras like it was before. Do not add reduntant libs.

  • LabWindows 4.0 is compatible with the 64-bit operating system?

I have a very old code CVI for PCI 6030th, who works on a 32-bit windows xp computer. The PCI card has been installed recently on a new computer that has a 64-bit windows 7 on it. The code does not work on the new pc. I was told that 6030th PCI can be performed by a virtual pc, so the only option would be to partition the HARD drive and install windows xp. CVI 4.0 code runs on a 64-bit operating system? I guess that the drivers may not be compatible. If not, is there a way to run the old code on a new version of labwindows cvi without having to rewrite it completely?

    Thank you!

    Sikora

    Hi Sikora,

I don't think you'll be in too much luck. I'm assuming that your code has probably been covering on your PCI device 6030th using traditional DAQ, which is not supported on the operating systems Windows 7. You might go to NOR-DAQmx 9.1.1, that is supported on Windows 7, but this will require you to rewrite your code to convert into orders DAQmx.

    Kind regards

  • Pavilion a1250n: cannot use 4 GB of memory on 64-bit operating system

I resurrected this PC to give to my grandson, so I added 2 GB more memory.

But when he starts, he sees only 3 GB.

The configuration of the BIOS shows all 4 sticks of 1 GB.

I ran the test memory Windows startup, and it shows all 4 GB and it extracted all OK.

But, the properties of PC watch 4GB installed, 2.75 GB usable.

I confirmed that Max Memory has been disabled in the MSCONFIG startup parameters.

Googling has provided advice to set up activate Memory Remap in BIOS - but there is no such setting, in fact, there are NO parameters associated with the memory in the BIOS.

I am running the latest version of the BIOS - there is no update.

I use an add-in video card GeForce and hoped there will be a setting in the BIOS to avoid system memory allocated to the integrated video chipset, but only focus on the video entry is to choose what video is the main, and I already defined on PCI - E.

I am at one loss as to what else to do...

    Hello:

What you see is probably normal for a PC with an AMD chipset this old.

I know for a fact that on a desktop computer Intel, you must run with a chipset 965 or newer which takes in charge of 8 GB of memory or more, so that Windows to "see and use" 4 GB of physical memory.

These PC that can support 4 GB memory shows the same amount of memory usable net as a 32-bit operating system.

There is nothing you can do about it.

I guess the same goes for AMD platforms... you probably have a PC with a chipset that can take over 8 GB or more memory on order for Windows to "see and use" all of the 4 GB of physical memory.
