Reinstall Windows 7 Home Prem key does not

I had somebody asked me to reinstall their laptop (A Toshiba with W7HP) I used Magic Jelly Bean to obtain the product key, because the COA on the bottom of the laptop was unreadable, it had been rubbed so much you can only see things X 15-#.

Now, I did a reinstall with Microsoft's OEM disc. Trying to activate, I get "Windows 7 Home Premium product key you typed is invaild for activation"

I copied and pasted so I know that I didn't type.

What are my choices? Do I have to buy a new product key?

You use the OEM SLP key which can not be activated. The only way that works an OEM SLP key is with the recovery partition or a Toshiba recovery media. (it itself active) You will need to use the key from the COA or install it from the recovery media.

See the response from André for more information.
Additional information:
Computers, which are built by large manufacturers provided with pre-installed Windows are supplied with 2 two product keys:

(A) OEM SLP: this key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes to the factory. This key is designed to work with the special instructions isn't on the hardware of this manufacturer. Then, when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP (in factory) Windows 7 key leans on the motherboard and he sees special instructions and activates. (that's why you had no need to turn on your computer after you brought it home)

(B) SLP COA: it's the product key that you see on the sticker on the side (or at the bottom, [or in the battery compartment]) of your computer. It is a valid product key, but must be used only in certain situations (for example, if the OEM SLP key stops automatic activation for a reason any). The key must be activated by phone. (Note: all manufacturers that use the SLP OEM system are bound by contract to include a certificate of Authenticity sticker (COA), which has a COA SLP key, on the computer)

  • I have a Windows XP Home Edition, which does not list if it's 32-bit or 64-bit

I have an OEM Windows XP Home Edition, which does not list if it's 32-bit or 64-bit. How do I know what

To check if your XP operating system is 64-bit, you only have to right click on "My computer" and select 'Properties' to display 'system properties '.   If your XP operating system is XP Professional 64-bit, 64-bit will be indicated in the information displayed in the general tab.  However, XP 32 bit operating systems won't have 32-bit, there is no information about this particular point at all.  The XP Home Edition will be 32-bit, but this information does not appear.  XP Professional, however, can be either 32-bit or 64-bit.  If it is 64-bit, it will be indicated on the general tab of the system properties. However, if it is XP Professional 32-bit, nothing is there to indicate that the operating system is 32-bit.

Vista and Windows 7, unlike XP, OS will indicate if they are 32-bit or 64-bit.

    Hello ElumBuneri,

As you stipulate that Windows stops working within 30 days, I'll assume that you have been unable to activate your copy of Windows. You receive the error message probably is "key to product already in use"? If this is the case, a simple phone call will solve the problem.

  • Windows XP home version suddenly does not, even in safe mode.

My computer at home is no longer operational. Windows XP Home version has suddenly refused to load. It seems to start normally, but never ends. I tried to boot in safe mode. Although safe mode starts to load, it does not end. If I try to start normally or in safe mode, there is no error message. A few years ago, I bought the computer with XP preinstalled. It's never happened before. I have all the updates, including service pack 3. However; I realize now that I did a backup disk. Any advice as to what are my options?

Given that your machine does not start, you need to start a system on a CD.  Easier to create CD's free Linux Livecd such asKnoppix.   If you have a friend with an XP installation disc, you can try to build a diskBelia PE or Ultimate Boot CD for Windows . On the chances that your problems of a corrupted registry, you can boot from that disk and use it to perform the steps in

"How do I recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP startup"

With a Live Linux disk, you can pick up the procedure in part 2, step 6 using Linux to copy, paste and rename the appropriate files.  If all else fails, you can use the same Linux Live CD to backup your data on a USB drive or a network drive before reinstalling Windows.  Most OEM computers have a recovery partition which is activated by pressing a particular key at the right time to start.  This procedure will completely erase the drive and put it in the State that it was when it was first purchased.  Quickly look up when you boot.  It is not stay there long.  If this does not work, you will need to get a replacement from the manufacturer of your computer installation disc.

  • How can I reinstall windows xp when the computer does not start and there is no cdrom/dvd drive?

I have an Acer netbook aspire one.  It will not boot past the windows logo.  I have a windows xp disc to reinstall windows, but the computer has no CD or dvd rom.  Can I copy cd of windows xp on startup SD memory card and reinstall windows?  Or can I run connect the non working pc a working PC to access the cdrom on the work pc to reinstall windows?

First of all, you are mistaken when you say that the PC does not start.

This is clearly starting. The problem comes from Windows, not with the real PC. It's actually a very important distinction!

There are methods to repair Windows, but they can be a bit tedious. By all means, follow the advice given here to do if you're so inclined.

If you would not rather to repair Windows (and I think it's interesting a try) or your repair attempts are unsuccessful, apparently, you would need to use an external optical disc drive and follow the instructions here:

  • Reinstalled windows (Vista Home Premium upgrade), will not let me activate

I had to reformat/reinstall windows on my Vista Home premium computer, but now when I try to activate, I get an error indicating that the upgrade cannot be used for clean installation. That's fine, because I know that the activation of the phone will operate, but I can't find a phone number for the activation of the phone. When I do the slui.exe 4, he'll need just to options where it asks me to put in the code, then gives me just the error message. He will never give me the option for the offline or activation of the phone (I even tried to unplug my internet). I'm looking for a phone number to get it activated...

The best thing for you to do is repeat the installation, this time as an upgrade of the current, ensuring that you enter the key on request the installation - it should then accept and activate normally.

  • Windows 7 Home Edition Premium does not start after the upgrade to the new motherboard

A year ago, I bought a Compaq PC with a preinstalled version of Windows Vista installed. Then, I contacted HP and bought a Premium upgrade Windows 7 and starting to upgrade to Windows 7 family. Now, I came to a point where I wanted to upgrade my PC and I bought a card mother Gigabyte and a processor for the new socket. I was planning on using the same hard drive, but I found that I can not boot into Windows 7 more. The operating system is to see what he thinks, it's a brand new computer?

Have I not the license right credentials to run Windows 7 on this computer 'new '? The old motherboard is of no use to me, and the operating system only and will only ever be used on a hard drive. If it is all ok - how can I get my Windows installation to work, keeping in mind that I only have a Windows 7 upgrade disk?

    Best regards, jazznaz

Yes, it's a brand new computer, but you should be able to use, the license would be out of respect and you would just set it using a key of Windows 7 Edition Home Premium full version.

Because you used the Windows Vista OEM license as a basis for the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade qualification, this license is more in use since you changed the motherboard. This means you need to get a full license.

  • Reinstall Windows 7 Home Edition Basic, is not installation media

Original title: can someone help me

I have WINDOWS 7 HOME BASIC 64 - bit version of license with key in my laptop. I want to reinstall my windows but don't have CD or DVD.

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

This is how the recovery partition is accessible to most popular brands...

For Dell, press CTRL + F11 directly after switching on the device

For HP, press F11 directly after switching on the device

For LG, press F11 directly after switching on the device

For Toshiba, press and hold "0" BEFORE and during the power upward

For Acer, press and hold ALT + F10, as soon as you see the logo

For Asus, press F9, as soon as you see the Asus logo.

For Samsung, press F4 to the power upward...

For Fujitsu, press the F8 key directly after the power

Advent, restart your computer. Then, press F10 repeatedly until the message "Starting system recovery"

Sony VAIO, reboot and press "F8" or "F10" repeatedly until the screen "Advanced Boot Options".
