Reinstall Windows 7 on hard drive again with only the Win 7 Upgrade disc?

So I have an e9180t which, like clockwork, freezes after about an hour or two after the boot.  I thought it might be the curse of bad mothers, with what they came, but I hope that it is something else so test everything I can.  I noticed that it does not freeze upwards when it is started in safe mode with network.  The hard drive failed the test SMART so I wonder if it's time to replace it as if that has anything to do with the crash.   I can move the cursor, but no applications will be open and eventually everything becomes insensitive causing be tohit the power button to restart.   I already stopped unnecessary startup programs and it will still freeze in unsafe mode.

The PC came with Vista and I think it's what's on backup hard disk partition.  I have the disk Win 7 Upgrade from HP.  My questons are-

1. If I buy a new HD 7 upgrade disc will be enough to install the full version of Win 7?

2. anything else I should do when I install the new HD and more to reactivate Windows?

Thank you.

Hi Mike,.

Have you created a HP recovery disk to reinstall the factory image when replacing the HARD drive?

It sounds like you have maybe a problem creating the recovery discs now.

A Smart HARD drive test failure points to a HDD failure. The symptoms you are experiencing are likely caused by this fact. You can also have a card mother or any other hardware problem.

You have the key to drive and Win 7 Upgrade product.

I'm pretty sure that the upgrade to Windows 7 to be launched from Win Vista. The upgrade of Windows 7 is a full installation of Windows, so this isn't the problem. But he can't run the installation unless you start the upgrade in Win Vista. Normally, an upgrade to Windows 7 is launched within the current operating system, Win 7 valid existence of an eligible OS Setup and then request a restart to complete the installation of upgrade.

You can replace the HARD drive and try to install Win 7 itself. If this fails and you do not have the Vista recovery discs, you can buy an HP recovery disc set here. There are three different versions. Select one that corresponds to the operating system that is installed at the factory.

You may have another problem to replace the HDD with a Format HDD advanced most recent. Please see thisHP Supportdocument for more information.

If you cannot install the upgrade Windows 7 itself or Win Vista because of the issue of the Advanced Format HARD drive, you may need to purchase a copy of Windows 7 OEM.

    If you can still boot your old disk, you can use a program such as one of them:

    KeyFinder: <> http://www.magicaljellybean.com/ >
    Belarc Advisor: <> http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html >

    to read the key out of your old system.

    Also note that if you have a system OEM and the OEM installation disks, the key can be incorporated in the installation discs and can not be necessary when your reinstalling Windows.

  • Reinstalling windows 8 after hard drive failure

    Let's say I bought a laptop with Windows 8 preinstalled (I'm considering the purchase Lenovo Yoga 13)

    and then one of the following things occur:
    -my hard drive dies
    -I want to repartition the hard disk and format it
    -I want to buy a new hard drive and replace the existing one
    The question: what is the safe way to reinstall the OEM of Windows 8, which comes with the laptop on a clean
    (no restore partition) hard drive?
    Here, the assumption is that I start with a laptop from work 'by default'.

    Some information:
    I read some topics on these forums and my current understanding is that the activation key for OEM Windows 8 is stored somewhere in the BIOS/UEFI and can be removed by windows installed. I'm fine with that. Where can I get the installation media in this case? In the Microsoft store I was informed (by a technician) that I would essentially need to purchase an OEM Windows 8. Certainly, I hope this gentleman, I was talking to does not know his business. I think know that by buying the windows laptop I also buy the license for this particular Windows OEM installed on it (related to hardware and all).

    Hello

    After looking around a bit, I can't find no details on a recovery device at all either. Only something about a picture "Recovery."

    The problem is that if your hard drive is a replacement or reformatted, it seems to me that the image would be useless because the software required to load it would be gone.

    Unless the 'Image' would contain the necessary software to load, and it's doubtful...

    Thus,.

    I would suggest picking up Acronis image, preferably of the Plus Pack version, or something similar...

    I tried a number of programs, including the most free, image and Acronis seems to be the better (and faster).

    There are a few programs that can detect that they have been refilled from an image and require reinstallation... That almost never seems to happen with Acronis images for some reason any.

    You can often find it for sale cheap and sometimes free after rebate, if you want to wait...

    It compresses the Image, she creates and takes much less space as a result...

    I have a 128 GB SSD, responsible for programs that absorb about 60 GB... Acronis compresses the image to 20 GB.

    It reloads the Image on ANY HDD\SSD that is large enough... 60GB for example.

    You can Image the entire drive or individual partitions... In your case, I recommend both as soon as you get the computer. Just to cover all bases.

    The only withdrawal to it is that you will need an external HARD drive or a Flash capacity...

    I make the Images of new OS every time I do a great time of change or put to date. In case of problem, 15 minutes to make a new image is nothing compared to having to start again.

    I currently have about 10 images to win 8 since I installed it taking about 180 GB...

    My understanding is that the installation of Acronis CD is also bootable... which is when you want to use it anyway. I can't confirm that at this time because my bootable CD was burned by the installed version of Acronis and I can't find the original disc to test it.

    However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

    15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

    So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

  • Do I have to disable the Windows key of I intend to reinstall Windows on another hard drive?

    I have a TB HDD which was once my main OS (Windows 7) until the motherboard and the PSU broke. I bought new equipment and could not get my old hard drive as Windows 7 above to start. I would like to get a quick flash of the blue screen of death, and the system was in the same boot loop. My brother-in-law brother let me borrow an another disk drive hard 80gig empty I was able to install the OS on and reconnect my old drive to recover all my pictures, music, videos and documents. Now I want to format my old 1 TB drive and reinstall my OS on that drive. I have to turn off the key? Is there a limit to how many times you can use your key? I could have sworn that Windows XP has been like that?

    It would be similar to Apple's iTunes software, where you can disable the service before you can reinstall.

    If it is a complete retail Windows 7 license and this is the same computer, you can just reinstall and reactivate automatically. If the Activation of the Internet does not work, use the phone activation:

  • How to install windows 8 on hard drive replacement with no installation disc

    I need to replace the failed hard drive on my laptop Asus N56VJ. I will probably opt for a hybrid drive of 1 TB. But how can I reinstall the windows operating system that is installed at the factory 8 with available installation disc?

    Hello Maggie,

    Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

    Thank you for details on the issue.

    I also appreciate the fact that you want to install Windows on a new hard drive.

    You can install Windows using the steps described in this article and check if it helps.
    Reference:

    You can create the media to install Windows from this link:

    I hope that you have the Windows product key for activation .

    Important notes:
    BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

    I recommend strongly to backup all your important files and folders on an external storage device before performing any type of OS, repair, upgrade or clean install.

    Installed Windows Home Server 2011 on my files allocatted to share on my wireless network, including a hard drive 2 TB external. Worked well able to watch movies, listen to music etc... As several files have been saved on the external hard drive (800G now) he would not recognize the new content (files or movies) previous content is ok, but nothing new would not reconise. Unplug the hard drive from the PC, pluged into the TV via USB and all the files are there, old and new. • Toshiba USB external hard drive 250GB shows only the red light - sound of rattling

    My USB HD external drive to Toshiba aged 16 months stopped working yesterday. It shows just a flashing red light
    and makes a slight clicking noise. Of course, we cannot guarantee any more. But all my backups are on this drive,
    This means almost 10 years of work destroyed if I cannot access this disc more. Someone knows what to do to fix
    This problem?

    Post edited by: admin

    I put t know what the flashing red LED could mean, but it looks like a HARD disk head crash. Perhaps you could find some details in the user manual that the flashing light means.

    However, he still stupid s cases of dysfunction of a backup media situation. I had a similar problem with my 2.5 100 GB USB HDD. After about 3 years of work, the HARD drive died and I was not able to access the HARD disk. I was a lucky man because I have backup my data also on the DVD so I was able to restore the files and data.

    What to say maybe s possible to save data, but professional help would be necessary. Maybe you should contact technicians for assistance.

    Best regards and good luck buddy

  • Reinstall Windows 8 after HARD drive crash

    I've got Sleekbook 6-1250er HP ENVY with Win8-Ru.

    Unfortunatly HDD death and recovery partition is no longer accessible.

    Is there a way I can get ISO image with Win8-Ru (or Win8.1 - Ru) to my laptop (with all drivers and HP tools) so I can load them on the flash drive and install?

    I found a topic with Win8-en. But I'm not shure if my OEM key will install the version Eng of Windows and if I could install Ru-interface.

    Hi Lehych,

    Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

    I'm sorry to hear that you had to replace your disk on your Sleekbook 6-1250er HP ENVY. I'll try my best to help you with this.

    Here is a document for HP recovery disks or USB HP recovery disc that explains how to get records from recovery or media to replace the partitions, including the recovery partition.

  • Hard drive used with reinstalled Vista asks you username and password

    I replaced my hard drive damaged by a second-hand and reinstalled Vista. At the start he is now asking for the user name and password. I have a password on the original hard disk, and it did not start. I tried my old user name with blank password, but it didn't work. How can this be repaired?

    I installed Windows again using the original installation disc of Vista came with the Dell laptop. Installation worked fine, but ask some 'Other' user name and password to the launch of Windows. Tried to my 'old', but would not work.

    So I erased opportunity newly installed using the DBAN program and reinstalled Windows Vista hard drive. That did the trick. I was able to launch Windows and create a new username and password. Once I got into Windows, I've updated the drivers from the Dell website using my Service tag. Work now - great Amen!

  • I upgraded my card mother cpu ram and hard drive. I reinstalled windows xp home edition has got all of the updates. After 9 latest updates download and installtion went well, I restarted the computer, I get a blue screen and the computer restarts

    I upgraded my card mother cpu ram and hard drive. I reinstalled windows xp home edition has got all of the updates. After 9 latest updates download and installtion was going well until I rebooted the computer and go to page window showing all the icons that I get a blue screen and the computer restarts its self and does not stop. How can this be corrected?

    Hi KevinRy,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!

    Unplug all external devices.

    Try to start in safe mode. If you can start in safe mode, and then do a system restore to restore the computer to an earlier point in time.

    Change the recovery settings to disable automatic reboot, if you are able to boot up to the desktop computer:

    1.

    Right-click my computerand then click Properties.

    2.

    Click the Advanced tab.

    3.

    Under Startup and recovery, click settings to open the Startup and recovery dialog box.

    4.

    Clear the automatically restart check box, and then click OK many times necessary.

    5.

    Restart your computer so that the settings take effect.

    Now, when you are going to close and a fatal error occurs, you will see at least and it won't cause an automatic restart.

    Please reply back with the error message you get because it helps us to resolve the error.

    Kind regards

  • I am trying to reinstall Windows Vista from my drive hard can u help me__

    I need some help tryin to reinstall windows vista from my hard drive, I went on the recovery program who was here and burned a cd, but none of the programs on my computer it open so I need to know how to reinstall it from my disk hard please

    You normally have to boot from the recovery disc:

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to perform a recovery of the recovery hard disk Partition.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    For any questions/problems about the recovery process, you will need to contact the manufacturer of the computer.

    It is their software/recovery process, not Microsoft.

    See you soon. Mick Murphy - Microsoft partner
