Reinstall Windows XP without OEM disc

I work on a computer with Windows XP Home Edition.  Safe mode does not start and I'm unable to uninstall or install programs.  The user has a malicious AOL software package that detects a threat (but he is unable to do something about this).  Without being able to install the software or to access in safe mode, I don't think I can do a lot.

I think I need to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows.  However, the OEM Windows XP Home Edition disk disappeared.  The product key is known and I do not have a Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 discs.  I'll be able to install Windows using the original product key with this drive?

The good news is that the Dell XP installation CD are in every way. And not only CD - R copy of them! You can get one on Ebay at a dealership with a rating less than $20, including shipping. But surely a relative, friend, neighbor colleague you know has one of them - they are everywhere! And when you use a Dell XP installation CD, there is no need to worry about the product key thanks SLP (System-locked preinstallation) technology that Dell uses.

If, and only if, this CD - R is a perfect copy of the correct original CD, then it can be used with success since you have already a valid COA and the product key. The problem is that there is no way to really know what's on this CD - r... (Well, I guess, that there is a way if you can determine the MD5 checksum and compare it to the checksum MD5 of the real McCoy.)

I had problems with my computer and I had to reinstall Windows.  The computer works fine now, but the problem is that I had a Windows Vista disk (the computer was shipped with Vista).  However, shortly after I bought my laptop, I've upgraded to Windows 7 (student edition or something like that) but I did via the internet; I never had a disc.  So when I reinstalled Windows, I reinstalled Vista.  I want to know is there a way for me to reinstall or "reupgrade" from my computer to Windows 7 without disc.

Staples load Vista on my computer but never gave me the disc, I need to format my drive, but I have to for on activation code reinstall. What should do?

You probably have a restore disk partition that can be used to reinstall Windows. See your documentation or check with Staples to learn more.

Note that formatting the drive and reinstalling WIndows are a very bad approach to address any problem. What makes you think you need to do this?

And please note that a subject line that says: "What to do?" we said nothing and is likely to get your question ignored by many people. The subject must always be a brief description of what the problem is - in your case, something like "Want to reinstall but have no disc."

  • Reinstall windows xp without a disc

my computer is slowing down, so I tried to reinstall windows xp by using winnt32.exe, but when I tried to reinstall it I got the error message "Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD.

Looks like you try to perform a repair installation after booting from the hard drive, which will not work offshore. Even if you were able to boot from the 6 floppies or something like a Bart PE CD, or if you actually had the correct version of the XP installation CD, a repair installation will simply not help. You must either treat the cause of your slow or perform a clean installation. You say you have an eMachines computer, but you still have not told us the model and model number! As long as we do not have this information, it will be difficult to help you!

This guide MAY be what you are looking for:

    http://support.gateway.com/s/manuals/desktops/8510406.PDF

The first ball most option will not help you. It is similar to a repair facility. Although it will give you a 'new' copy of Windows, it will always leave the situation that causes the slow intact. In addition, repair installs (or their equivalent) can be difficult and problematic and should only be done in certain situations.

The second option is a clean install. If all your important documents are on a flash drive, you need to run. But you will have to reinstall all your programs after verifying that you have SP3 and all post-SP3 security updates installed.

Of course, you can choose to deal with why your PC slowed down. We will guide you. Then increase the chances you won't have to deal with this kind of headache again because you will know what to do to avoid the slowness in the first place.

Once more, run winnt32.exe is not going to work, so banish the thought!

    Hi jesse,.

What is the brand and model of your computer? You have the restore disc that came with the computer. If the recovery partition is still intact, you may be able to reset it to factory settings, but I can't tell you how much, until you post the manufacturer and model of your computer.

  • Impossible to reinstall windows after having disinfected disc

    Hello experts,

I ran the disk on an elitebook8470p Sanitizer. She completed successfully, wiping everything as planned.

Now I am trying to reinstall windows 7, using the "windows repair disc" I created with the hp utility.

Problem is, there is no option to install windows 7.

Just a bunch of options to repair, diagnose or reinstall from an image (but it has not listed to choose from images).

Don't I have the wrong disc?

Can someone share a list of steps to follow after disinfection drive contest?

    Thank you

    Hello

The repair disk you mention does not contain the files to reinstall Windows 7, it simply provides a way to access recovery and diagnostic option etc.

    There are two options available.

    1. you can order the HP operating system recovery disc.

    Contact HP.

2 another option that you might consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

You can create a Windows 7 installation disc you using another PC - just download the good Disk Image ( that must be the same version that originally came with your laptop ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here.  These Images are clean and a very respected source (Digital River).

    Windows 7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the label of the COA at the request and once the installation is complete, use ' 'phone Method' described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system -this made method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want to just have a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally comes with OEM installations.

You will find additional and software drivers for your laptop here.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-Recover Windows 7 without the disc

I reinstalled windows 7 Home premium on my machine, using the same number as provided with the laptop (I found the serial number by downloading software that has scanned my computer and told me what it was).

After you install windows, he told me that it was not authentic. I guess that's because it wasn't a version of Windows that brings together everything HP software pre-loaded on it. My hard drive still has a "recovery" partition, but I have no idea what to do with it, or even if I can do something with it more.

So, how can I make my Windows 7 Home premium authentic? Do I have to reinstall another version of windows 7 Home premium with the included HP software? Where can I find this download? Because I don't have a recovery disk, can I use this partition "recovery" of my hard drive to something?

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi crabbattle,

The key for the original version on your PC only works with OEM of Windows versions.  You will need to use the key provided with the retail version of Windows you purchased, or use recovery on the PC software.

You can access recovery by using the F11 key to the course of priming or order of the HP discs.  There is more info of recovery here.

  • Install windows 7 without install disc.

I know it took a lot, but nobody seems to have a clear answer. FYI I know a bit about computers, so please do not speak for me as I am a noob.

I need to reinstall windows 7 on my computer, but it did come with an installation disc. And before you say anything that this either on "recovery partitions" my computer isn't any what recovery partition. (I checked) And my hard drive has some problems, so I need one that can be used on a USB key. And before say you "contact the manufacturer" I did. And Toshiba is not any help.

This is the second time that this has happened. The first time, I contacted someone through using Microsoft chat thing, and after that I told her that I had a product key, it gave me a link to an installer that could be placed on a USB key. Everything was great. The second time, I did the same thing, but the guy began to ask my name, phone number, and he wanted to know what my product code. I was a little unsure about this guy because of some personal issues and his name looked like he was Indian (Indian of the India). I'm not racist, I got once my online identity, stolen by a guy from the India. And why this guy needs all this? The first guy none of it did not. He just asked me if I had a product code, and what version I needed.

It is important that I get my laptop reinstalled in a week.

Microsoft no longer offers OEM images for win 7.  You need to find an image for your version from a less reliable source

Given that Microsoft has removed downloads of digital river you have two equally bad options.

    Microsoft https://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246?wa=wsignin1.0 backup support request
Or if you have a retail key (NOT OEM operating system preinstalled) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery
You may be better of borrowing a person.  For OEM (preinstalled) you should contact the manufacturer of the computer.
