Here is an article on the restore procedure:http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-restore-files to make sure you do this right. It's a selective restore of a full or selective backup (not a full restore from a full backup) - but since you did a full backup, it matches your process more closely than would a full restore.
This is a GREAT article on the backup and restore processes in Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2007.09.backup.aspx , but he won't go into detail about the restoration process - considering almost as easy, of course. But it teaches you a lot about what is possible and how to do it. It also focuses primarily on the full backup process, but he did mention the full backup and restore process as well.
Here is an article on the advanced use of restoration (during normal restore does not work):http://www.mayankraichura.com/post/2009/08/06/Avdvanced-Restore-via-Windows-Vista-Backup-and-Restore-Center.aspx.

I also found the following (but don't know if it of true or not):
1. after the start of "backup and Restore Center."
2. I chose "Advanced Restore"
3. I was did not an administrator password... maybe because my account is an administrator account.
4 choose "files from a backup made on a different computer.
5. in the dialog box indicating "Select the location of the backup to restore", select "hard drive, CD or DVD...". »
6. under the drop-down list box, select your drive/partition and continue
7. If all the backups on your drive, it will show a list of them.
8. in my case, he showed a backup, but in the backup location, it will show "backup location is not available."
9. I was frustrated, but then I somehow just select this backup (Yes... even if he said that thebackup location is not available " ")
10. and you press "next".
11 guess what... no error!
12. a window appeared asking me if I wanted to do a full restore, or I want to select specific folders or files.
13. I selected the folders I wanted to restore and bingo... it their restored smoothly.
14. so that the next time see a mistake, try to continue with him... ;)
I don't know if this will help, but it does not provide much information about the process (when it works). I hope you find any error or discrepancy in your procedure and it will clear up and allow you to restore.
I hope this helps.

Laptop computer reformat HD with desktop backup files
So I wanted to reformat my laptop for quite awhile, but don't want to shell out the cash for a new operating system. Or that I want to use the system recovery/backup of the laptop, I'd start rather cool. So, I was wondering if I was able to save the HD on my HP desktop computer to reformat my laptop. I called HP support and asked them, and I was told that this was not possible, although the technology was not clear enough. Both are Vista, even if it is a 64-bit and the other is a 32-bit
So, is it possible and if not, why not?
In addition, as a question, is possible to ONLY backup files Vista basic and lose all the rest?
No, without having to install a retail copy, you would be unable to do a cleaning. You will need to use the recovery media. Keep in mind that the operating system should turn on and so with the right combo of software OEM and OEM key on the bottom of the unit.

HOWTO set default directory of FRA with the backup file format?
First of all, Happy home at all!
My database uses default FRA - Flash recovery area, also:
db_recovery_file_dest = C:\oracle\product\10.2.0/flash_recovery_area
SQL & gt; list of archive logs
Database log mode Archive Mode
Active AutoArchive
Destination of archive USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST
More old sequence of journal online 14
Log sequence archive 16
Current log sequence 16
1. now, when I say:
RMAN & gt; basis of data backup;
Oracle, create and place the file backup in the directory of the FRA, exm:
C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\flash_recovery_area\ORCL\BACKUPSET\2009_01_10\O1_MF_NNNDF_TAG20090110T161353_4PKGSKYR_. BKP
All right!
2 but I don't like the name of OMF file generated, I say:
RMAN & gt; backup of database format 'DD_%d_%s_%u.bkp' TAG = "MyTag01";
RMAN put the backup file NOT in FRA directory (such as 1), but now in C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\database, exm:
C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\database\DD_ORCL_42_1AK4FI9L. BKP
Question: How can I tell RMAN place FRA default directory backup file - area recovery Flash, but using special own format, no OMF?
Thank youIf you read from here,
http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmconfg.htm#i1009784
>
Creating RMAN in the Flash recovery area filesThis section describes RMAN commands or implicit actions (such as backup of control file) that can create files in the flash recovery area and how to control whether a specific command creates files there or in some other destination. Support in all cases, is that a flash recovery area has already been configured for your database. The commands are:
BACKUP
Do not specify a FORMAT of the BACKUP command option and do not configure a FORMAT option for backups to disk. In such a case, RMAN creates backup and copies image elements in the area of flash recovery, with names to the name format for Oracle managed files. >
If you want to use FRA, you will have to live with OMF, because that's the way it works. If you want to give names of manual backup, it would be on a different location, but not on FRA.

Vista backup file is not visible
Using the backup feature in Vista, I managed (under Vista) saved 200 + GB of my PC hard disk laptop. I know that it worked because:
1 - unused space on the hard drive laptop declined significantly
2 - I was able to restore files from the portable hard drive
HOWEVER, according to the help Windows, a file "Backup set Date" was created, but I can't - it is not visible. How can I make it visible?
Thank you

How WD My Book World Edition Network Attached Storage backup with Vista backup
Hello
I have a dandy new My Book World Edition which is recognized by Vista and to which I have traced some readers. I'm trying to get a copy of Vista to 64 backup to save a backup on this device, but it does not work. I hope someone here can have successfully addressed this. I tried the backup on mapped drives, but they do not seem to be listed under the local computer. I then select the My Book World Edition device networking (by browing to it), and even if I correctly enter the usernam and password, backup of Vista tells me that it can't open the backup on her drive. Thanks for any help in setting this up.

Hello monteolsen1,
Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft answers Forum.
I don't know if you have the Western Digital My Book World Edition is supported in a 64-bit environment of Windows Vista. Windows Vista displayed a supported operating system, but it does not show a 64 bit system.
Please contact Western Digital for its support in this area.

Help! Replaced the open the .lrcat LR with old backup file
LR is open edition has just completed a big wedding. I went to use folder and copy the .lrcat file in my backup disk, but instead, I got an old version of the .lrcat file and replace the file, I've worked on that. I can't undo this action. I'm afraid to touch or do something. I can't lose all the work that I do.
Help, please! Thank you.
I use LR CC and a Mac v10.10.3.
If you did this bad drag-and - drop or copy-and - paste using the tools of the operating system, lose you all the work that you have just completed. There is nothing that LR can do to help at this point. There is no unwritten 'saved' that can be done. The best you can hope for is to be able to recover some of your work from a previous backup.

How to restore Windows Vista backup on Windows XP computer?
I was about to lose my hard drive on a computer with Vista Home Premium. Stored on an external hard drive. Not able to find my Vista rescue cd, I so installed XP Professional I've had. Attached to transfer backup files, but will not transfer.
Original title: Save transfer problemsproblems
Hi Marty,
Windows Vista backup files are in. Disc format hard virtual which is only supported in Vista. You would have to restore them on a computer that is running Windows Vista and then copy the contents of the Windows XP computer.

Help me understand the Vista backup
I just started using Vista backup to backup my PC to an external hard drive. There are several things I want to ask about the Vista Backup utility.
1. with many other backup programs (by example, utility backup Windows XP), I was able to review what files were backed up, because the utility has a provision for the display of files saved in their original folder structure. This is useful for manual checking that a group of files have been backed up.
With Vista backup, there is no provision. The backup is stored in a number of ZIP files, with no apparent match to the source folder structure.
Is there another way to view files saved in their original Vista backup folder structure?
2. I recently did a second backup of my hard drive Vista. I have added almost all the files. In fact, most of the changes have been moving and renaming of audio files. Yet, the second backup is larger than the first, each approximately 20 GB. And it took a long time, like the first. Ultimately, the TWO backups were kept in separate folders dated.
My questions:
a. Why is the second big backup? Can I apply an incremental, or differential backup as it existed under XP? If you tell me that it's already a differential backup, then why is it so important and take so long?b. I must keep each date of the backup folder? If so, my external hard drive is quickly running out of room! But if I remove it, maybe I'll lose data! Please help me understand how Vista backups are cataloged.
Thank you.

The second backup is great because because you moved your files autour and so backup if they were different files. Vista backup only new or modified files after the first backup.
If you open the file, you will be able to access all the saved files and delete those you don't need.
