Reinstalled XP - cannot connect to the internet

Hello.  I have an Asus Eee PC 900, which I restored to factory settings, using the XP disc that comes with it.  However, I can't connect to the internet.  By the way I'm having exactly the same problem with my Eee PC 701 with Windows XP, after restoring to factory settings too (have installed Linux and it connects fine) so I think it's an XP thing.

The pc displays available networks, I tried everything that I know, have set up the network and typed in my network key.  When I try to connect, nothing happens.  If I try to fix it, I get the message Windows could not finish repairing the problem because it is impossible to perform the following action: connect to the wireless network.

I tried:

(1) to reinstall the driver (it says it of Ok, and is the last being listed).
(2) setting the date and time correctly on the computer.
(3) check that 'enable IEEE... '. "is checked, authentication
(4) turn off ' use Windows to configure my wireless "(but if I do, no available wireless networks appear)

I wonder if Service Pack 2 is simply too old to connect to internet!  Is there anything I can download on my other computer on usb and install it on either an Eee Pc?  Like Service Pack 3 or something?

My network is WPA2 Personal

The box to "enable authentication IEEE 802. 1 x for the network"must NOT be checked.

You should have installed Service Pack 3 for your restoration efforts.  Unpatched, Windows XP Service Pack 2 is not able to connect to wireless networks that use WPA2 encryption (which is what you are - and should be - aid).  Older hardware may also be unable to connect using WPA2, but this doesn't seem to be your problem because you connected before the restoration and that you can connect now using Linux.

There is a catch-22: Windows Update will not install updates for XP (including Service Pack 3) except if you have installed Service Pack 3.

Connect your computer to your router with an Ethernet cable and do the following:

  1. Right click on your wireless connection icon and select Properties
  2. Select the wireless networks tab
  3. Confirm that "Use Windows to configure my wireless network" is CHECKED
  4. Remove all entries in the list of "preferred networks".
  5. Click 'View wireless networks,' select yours, enter your WPA2 password carefully, then click on connect

If you are unable to connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable for a reason, use another computer (for example, the one you use to ask questions here) to download the patch from the HP site and program installation of SP3 from Microsoft of the site and to copy on a USB or burn it to a CD.  Then copy the files on the desktop you're your computer and run them as if you had downloaded them.

I have an old computer.  I reinstalled Windows XP on it about 30 days ago.  I can't connect to the internet.  I bought 2nd hand computer and I bought my own version of XP directly from Microsoft.  I can't activate.  I can not even find iexplore.  Any suggestions?  I installed a driver for the ethernet card and still nothing.

I've never dealt with XP MCE, but from what I've seen, you can get ambiguous messages during the installation process.  MCE was never intended for installation by end users; It came normally pre-installed on computers that have the necessary equipment to support additional features 'media '.

It seems to me that if you have to start over.  First of all, you should get a prompt for "Windows XP Professional CD2" - who wants to have the second of the two CDs.  Then you should get a prompt for "XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD." In response to this prompt, insert the CD first back in.

Assuming that work better than before, right-click on desktop and select Properties.  If the display shows service pack 2 - which I believe it will be - you only need to install sp3.

  • WAG-120N and static ip - wireless and wired clients cannot connect to the internet

    Greetings,

I use the N WAG-120 AP and switch for 3 computers laptops and 2 Office. Our Department is assigned only a what IP static of our server, as well as a pc can connect to the server and the internet. I use the first lan port of the 120N Wag as a WAN port and I attribute the static IP address, and the subnet, default gateway, and DNS addresses. Connected clients receive an ip address from the DHCP (192.168.1.10x) router, but cannot connect to the internet. How can I configure my router to allow clients to connect?

    Thank you in advance!

The default LAN IP of the WAG subnet is 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 belongs to 192.168.0.0/255.255.0.0. This means that 192.168.1.0 IP addresses exist side WAN and LAN of the WAG. What makes this configuration completely cannot be routed.

Change the address LAN IP of the WAG to an IP outside the corporate network, for example using IP addresses private 172.16/12, for example to set the address LAN IP 172.16.1.1 with 255.255.255.0 subnet mask.

The alternative would be to use the WAG as a point of easy access only, and not as a router. However, due to the 255.255.0.0 subnet in your network company you will not be able to access the web interface except from an IP address corresponding to the LAN IP address subnet of the WAG. Of course, this does not affect the wireless or wireline customers connected to the WAG...

  • WRT54GL establishment cannot connect to the Internet

I'm so basic in my problem as I feel stupid, but I get the message that the router cannot connect to the Internet.  Why the hell not?  I am writing on the same laptop, using the same ADSL modem and Internet connection.  So why don't the router sees it?  The last time I have tried again, start over from scratch, he kept do and re-do "check your computer's connections" and then ask me again my password of.  I didn't know if he wanted the original preset 'admin' or that I had sometimes back (hours) came the first time that this has been asked.  So I tried both.  Finally he moved reset the password or something, and I finally return to the "the router cannot connect to the Internet.  Power, then turn on the DSL Modem. "I did already too many times to count.  And again I say, this direct DSL connection of the modem for my laptop is fine.  But when the cable Internet through the router, then the other wire goes to my laptop, no Internet.  All the time my DSL modem displays a green light for the Internet.  And the router shows a light on the Internet.

I'm too tired to walk any further tonight.  Maybe someone has a simple suggestion.  I'll check tomorrow.

Thanks for helping this rank amateur.

Try to configure the router manually.

Connect the modem to the Internet port and the computer and port Ethernet 1 of the router.

Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure.

Follow this link to configure the router with DSL Internet Service.

  • Reinstalled windows vista and cannot connect to the internet.

OK, so I have problems with my computer (model Emachine) and ended up having to reinstall windows vista. Windows works fine, even if I can't connect to the internet, because it does not recognize my modem, or my modem is suddenly not there. I am also running switched. If I have to download a driver, so I have to be online to do, so I'm in a catch 22. with little money and no way to get there.

I really need this computer to work, so any help would be appreciated.

Read my response: download / save drivers > copy them into Flash Drive > transfer / install on another computer/laptop.

You should be able to download/save files and copy them.

  • NB200 can connect to wireless networks, but cannot connect to the internet

I could connect my Win XP netbook to my network wireless secured to the House, other networks and public networks such as the library and McDonald's. This week, I am away from home and discovered that while I can still connect to a number of different wireless networks, I can't connect to the internet with Internet Explorer.

I had this problem once before and fixed by reinstalling Windows XP and all my other software. I have no idea why it happened again. I'm hoping for a less radical solution to the problem... ?

    Hello

You can try to renew the IP address.
Got to RUN and type CMD.
This would start the console (DOS window)

Here, you use the command: ipconfig / renew

It s also advised to update the Wlan driver. I've noticed some problems with older drivers for Wlan
Here you can get the most recent:

  • DeskJet 3520 cannot connect to the internet

I bought a new Deskjet 3520.  I set it up on the wireless network, and everything seems fine.  However, as I'm trying to implement Web Services, he told me always impossible to connect to the internet, it does not say why.  I have the correct key in place, and everything else on the wireless can connect to the internet.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled software... rebooted the router, restarted the printer, still no go.

I understand that you are not able to connect to web services.  I would follow the steps below.

    1. get the IP address of your printer.

    2. Enter the printer's IP address in a browser.

    3. Select the tab network at the top of the page.

    4. on the left, select network.

    5. Select Network (IP) address

    6. select manual DNS server

    a. manual Preferred DNS should read 8.8.8.8

    b. alternate DNS server should read. 8.8.4.4

    7. Select apply you could get a fair warning select OK.

Let me know how it goes.

  • HP Envy 4500: Printer says it has solid network connection, but cannot connect to the internet

So I have not been able to use my printer wireless lately, so I decided to check if it was connected to my wireless network. It is; I checked, re-connected and checked several times. So I decided to reactivate my web services. I have them turned off, and now whenever I press the button on the printer ePrint, it says connection for a really long time and then displays the message in the sense of "the printer cannot connect to the server. Check the internet connection and proxy settings.

I have re-connected the printer to my wireless network, I checked that if I use a proxy server (I'm not), I used the HP print and Scan Doctor - just, it won't just matter what I do.

All I can think about is the fact that I have recently purchsed a new router, but says that its connected which is what really stem me.

This printer makes me crazy - please help

    Hi @mastersword64,

    Welcome to the HP community!

I hope you have a pleasant experience with us.

I want to help you with the connection error, you get on your e-all-in-one of HP ENVY 4500 printer when you try to enable web services.

Here are some steps, I suggest trying to get your web services up and running it again:

    Network Power Reset:

We'll leave the router and unplug the power cable (NOTE: do not reset the router.), and then do the same with the printer and shut down the computer. After a minute, plug in the router, wait to fully turn on, then plug the printer back in and wait for the wireless light become solid. Once the router and the printer are on, go ahead and re - turn on the computer. This will refresh the network connection.

Restore the default settings of the network and reconnect:

    1. on the front panel of the printer, press your up wireless icon

    2. Select settings.

    3. Select restore default network settings.

    4 turn on your printer.

    5. once it is initialized to save, press the wireless icon again.

    6. Select settings.

    7. Select Wireless Assistant , and then follow the prompts to enter the details of your wireless network.

    8. try to activate the web services again.

Configure a manual DNS for your printer:

1 obtain the IP address of your printer

    a. This can be done by pressing the icon on the printer wireless.

    2. Enter the printer's IP address in a browser on your computer.

    3. Select the tab network at the top of the page.

    4. on the left, select network.

    5. Select network address (IP)

    6. Select manual DNS server

    a. manual Preferred DNS should read 8.8.8.8

    b. alternate DNS server should read. 8.8.4.4

    7. Select apply. You can get a warning simply select OK.

Please reply to let me know if these steps resolve your issue.

    Good luck!
