Remote Desktop error: the system cannot find the specified file. C:\WINDOWS\system32\ < LANG_NAME > \mstsc.exe.MUI

Came across an interesting problem this morning. After starting my PC from various applications (OutLook 2002, Management Studio of SQL Server 2008, etc.). I was able to connect to a server by using Remote Desktop (RDP, alias). On trying to connect to a second system, I started getting the following error message:

The system cannot find the specified file. C:\WINDOWS\system32\\mstsc.exe.MUI

Will always be connected to the server, I tried to launch a second instance using RDP, but received the same error message.

I googled the error and found different solutions (the best solution to examine ishttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itproxpsp/thread/164d1e0b-51e6-4201-9dc2-3f4a0ccb14e5), however, none of the solutions seemed to work.

I tried checking the virus/malware, etc, but nothing was found. I tried to re - load the dll and the exe (s), but still not received the error message.

The next solution was to try to see what can be changed on my system (new programs, etc.). I noticed there is an update downloaded to my system (C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log): AutomaticUpdates content success install successful and Restart required for the following update: update for Windows XP (KB969084)... the update is related to remote desktop.

I rebooted the system, still not received the RDP error messages. Is I did a complete "install updates and shut down ', and then restarted my system that started working again.

For the record, here is some information on my system:

XP Professional: Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.091208 - 2036: Service Pack 3)

c:\windows\system32\mstsc.exe: 6.1.7600.16385

I wanted to just post this in case someone else runs into a similar problem...

Thank you!

Argue for your limitations and of course they will belong. -Richard Bach, Illusions

I have a machine with the same problem

XP Professional: Version 5.1 (Build 2600

I installed the update for Windows XP (KB969084).

It does not, but a reboot is required because the system is running on the old dll

MSTSC.exe works now

Thanks for the info!

    OK problem solved.

I ran the scan of the updated and all updates already installed.

I checked the list of updates installed and already had KB2592687, KB2574819 installed.

However, when I looked under installed updates, it showed KB2592687 and 3 others in English while I have a Dutch version of Windows.

So I decided to uninstall the updates English 3 so I could reinstall it again.

"Note that after uninstalling these 3, Remote Desktop already worked again.

Apparently, these 3 uninstalling uninstalled a lot more, because after a reboot, there were 10 updates available instead of only 3 that I uninstalled). And after installing them and another restart there was even more updates available. Overall, it took three update sessions and restarts all up-to-date again.

Although the list of installed updates again 3 updates in English, Remote Desktop works now. So obviously something has went wrong with one of the previous sessions of Windows Update.

    Hello

It seems that there are a few system files that have trouble.  One of them being mstsc.exe, I wish you find spyware or infection by the virus first, before you try the next step.  Please see the sticky thread in the security forum.  MVP offers some good advice how to remove these problems.

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistasecurity/thread/fa30853d-719a-4265-9e7b-9287567d31e3

If everything is clean, we will try a repair installation to replace the problem files and also to ensure that other system files are good.

The 'repair' installation (upgrade on-site) will not affect your installed programs or data.  Just make sure that you are already connected to your computer when you start the installation.  Do not boot from the DVD.

If the installation does not start automatically when you insert the DVD, run setup.exe from your DVD player.

    • When the Setup program starts and the install now screen, click install now.
    • Note When you receive the important Get updates for installation message, click go online.
    • Click upgrade when the which type of installation you want? appears

Please let us know if this solves the problem for you.

  • System cannot find the specified file "[path]" \hpzshl.ice_suffix.. ". exe"on Windows 8.1

I've updated my OS to Windows 7 64-bit edition of Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit, and when you try to reinstall the software and the driver for my printer HP Officejet J4580 all-in-one I get all sorts of errors. It worked perfectly on Windows 7.

I get the most common error is: System cannot find the specified file "[path]" \hpzshl.ice_suffix.. ". exe', as well as the facility is abandoned.

I tried a lot of solutions from the HP Web site and these forums, but my problem is still there.

I already tried the long solution presented here:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/printer-all-in-one-install-Setup/install-error-quot-the-system-cannot-f...

    and

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c04206080

I even found the directory where installation has been decompressed and copied to the desktop, but the error persists.

I need the complete software because I need to use my printer Officejet scanner, so I can't just simply print drivers.

I need desperate help on getting this new work.

    Specifications of the computer:

    CPU: Intel Core i7 - 4820 K Quad-Core 3.70 GHz 10 MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011

    : DDR3 memory / 1866 MHz Quad Channel 16GB (4GBx4)

Printer: HP Officejet J4580 all-in-one; connected via USB

OS: 8.1 Pro 64 bit Windows

GPU: AMD Radeon R9 200 series

I finally solved it by myself after many hours of pain.

I clean any installation of HP from my computer using the HP Officejet software and driver removal utility:

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=MP-110151-1&cc=us&DLC=en&LC=en&OS=4158&product=3645100&sw_lang=

After the computer restarts, I moved on the desktop, the installation directory unpacked that HP printer install wizard for Windows had previously downloaded and launched.

I deleted all files in the directory %Temp%.

I disabled McAfee antivirus real time and Windows Deffender analysis.

I ran the setup.exe in the installation directory in my office.

The installation is smoothly and completed. I have already tested the printer and all features function normally.

I hope these steps help someone with similar problems to get the software installed.

  • Error message after you initialize computer error "Windows cannot find C:\Program Files (x 86) \Search Extensions\Client.exe make sure you typed the name correctly and try again.

After that I turned on my computer, I get this error message... "Windows cannot find C:\Program Files (x 86) \Search Extensions\Client.exe make sure you typed the name correctly and try again."

It all started October 1, 2014, and I have no idea why.

I asked windows assistance online, and he said he had something to do with my registry.
But then there just stop communicating and did not tell me how to solve this problem.

Y at - it a registry repair tool?

Also it does not affect my computer that I can tell.

But I have a problem in which windows cannot detect.

In the printers and devices window, the icon of my computer has a triangle with an exclamation mark inside error.

Maybe someone out there not and I'd appreciate any help.

    Hey, mark

First have you properly uninstalled this program? He was executed at startup of Windows an incorrect uninstall may cause this error may still be registered in MSConfig to start automatically with the computer.

Did you go to the address specified in Program Files (86) \Search Extensions to see if the file is present or not?

With a mark of exclamtion in the middle of a yellow triangle indicates that drivers must be updated.

Right-click on the device with the triangle, select Properties, go to the Hardware tab, select the device with a triangle next to it, select Properties again and select Update driver.

This should solve the problem, if Windows Update can't find a driver for you, you can always go to the manufacturers website and download it there, however, if the Windows Update does not find it there ' has a chance to the manufacturers Web site may not it as well, in this case, you can open Device Manager right-click the missing material or using outdated drivers, select Properties, go to the Details tab and in the hardware id select menu drop-down property search with id, you receive information about the device and so download the drivers the most up-to-date and appropriate from other reliable sources.

    Run the sfc/scannow command.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms,Accessories, right-clickguest, and then clickrun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.

    Hello

Thanks for posting this question in the Microsoft Community.

I'll certainly try and help you get the problem solved. Please provide us with some answers for a better understanding of the issue.

    1. Since when are you facing the issue?

    2 are logged as administrator?

    3. where's the music folder?  Located internal or an external storage device?

    4. do you have an anti-virus installed on the computer program?

    5. are you aware of any recent software or the hardware in the computer changes?

You try to open the file as administrator. Right-click on the file and select run as administrator.

You can also try to launch an online scan and check if that helps.

    Microsoft safety scanner

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

You can also start the computer in safe mode and check if the problem persists. If the problem persists, you can start the computer in a clean boot state, and check if all third-party software may cause the problem. Clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: when you are finished troubleshooting, follow step 3, mentioned in the article to start the computer to a normal startup.

Hope this helps and provide us more information if you need more assistance. We will be happy to help.

In the data store, the file type of the virtual machine is 'file' instead of 'virtual drive '.

    Help, please

You are missing the file descriptor hard. The xxxx - flat hard is the file that contains the data effectively. But the xxxx.vmdk is missing, which is a text file that connects to the flat file.

  • Error: the specified file is not a virtual disk

After working flawlessly for months, something went haywire today and my next attempt to access my VM Fusion has been met with "the specified file is not a virtual disk.  I followed a number of proposed solutions here and on the support without result page.

A question I have is it makes sense that my hard file is 1 KB in size and the text in TextEdit is gibberish (compared to, say, my .vmx file denominated in English for the most part)?  The last update for my performed hard at 12:33 today, where many of the other files (including files hard # s 21) have been updated at 14:52.  Is it possible that my hard file is corrupted?  If so, can it be rebuilt if I don't have a backup?

If you don't have a good copy of the file to replace the one damaged with "Windows XP Pro.vmdk" then use attached which was created from information in the vmware.log file provided in the .tgz support group.

The attached file "Windows_XP_Pro.vmdk.zip" contains a "Windows XP Pro.vmdk" file to replace the one damaged.

  • I need to change the host file in Windows\System32\drivers\etc but I get an error message telling me that I need administrator privileges to do this.

I use Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop. I am logged in as Administrator group member why not I have permissions to modify the file (I need to add an IP address to the list)?

I never had this problem when using XP, so why are administrator permissions so darn limited in Windows 7? And why does the system not recognize me as a member of the Administrators group? It's so frustrating.

Windows 7 UAC (User Account Control) prevents rogue programs do things behind your back. Click Start / Help, then look for help on UAC learn more.

To change your hosts file, follow these steps:
    1. Locate Notepad in your Start menu or in the System32 folder.
    2. Right-click.
    3. Left click run as administrator.
    4. Open the hosts file, edit and save it.

  • How to resolve the error "the specified file is not a virtual disk?

Hello - I have a ubuntu/linux host running vmware 1.08 with a SBS2003 VM that recently ran out of physical space in HD. After adding a new drive hard I know to get a specified file is not a virtual disk on one disk error I try to add - the other 3 work. After looking around here, I checked the file descriptor and it seems in good condition.

My paper does not help because I can not start the virtual machine with the hard drive, I need.

What are some solutions that I can try?

    Thanks for any help!

    B.

Unfortunately, you lost the data of zero bytes hard snapshot files. I hope that you don't have a backup of your data, since the snapshot was created in January!

To be able to feed the virtual machine - even with the disk data corruption - replace zero files hard bytes per who has 327680 bytes, which is essentially an empty file with only the metadata.

    André

PS: as mentioned earlier, please save the files until you turn on the virtual computer to be able to return to the current status in case you should!
