Remove a cluster in vCenter 5.5

I have two hosts in a cluster. I want them both to a new server vCenter (2012 R2).

I spend in maintenance mode to move the host because they are in a cluster. However, I can choose culter and then remove and I get a warning "removing a cluster remove also all the hosts and virtual machines. Are you sure you wan to do this? »

Remove a cluster will both hosts in maintenance mode or it will remove the cluster and put both hosts up one level (data center) without going into maintenance mode?

Thank you

Tjcooper

There is no need to use the Maintenance Mode. What I've done for the past migration was to disable HA and DRS manual value (maybe not necessary though), then 'Disconnect' hosts to vCenter and finally 'remove' them before adding them to the new environment. You must still work to 'force' add hosts to the new vCenter Server without removing them from the old. Once guests are added to the new vCenter Server you can move them to a cluster (CPU/VCA compatibility provided).

I would like also to such a function when you click on 'Remove' Boolean you can remove the cluster from the table so that the new table takes place 1 old and cluster information are removed from the worksheet so file. How can I do?

It does not need to have the cluster, use instead to build table (for best performance initialize the array and use replaces primitive subset of table). You cannot delete items in a file, but you can read the file and remove the item and he write to the file. If it is a sub VI, you add/remove items and writing to a file each time that the sub vi is called? Do not write to the spreadsheet VI file in this case, use instead write to text file primitive. See examples of LabVIEW for some useful examples on file i/o.

  • Remove ESXi hosts to vCenter Cluster host even

Hi all. Depending on the subject, I would like to remove the host from an old Cluster vCenter which is no longer accessible because the database is damaged. Unfortunately I can not not to restore it because my predecessor scheduled backups. How can I do? Thank you all in advance for your answer.

All the information you have provided, I suppose there could be something in the ADAM database, which must be deleted / reset.

The assignment of license keys is stored in the ADAM database (rather than in the vCenter Server database) and with the new installation of server vCenter on the same host (old) this may not have been reset. Please take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1015268 to see if this KB will help resolve the issue.

  • remove the Cluster data store data store

I have an infrastructure with vCenter and ESXi 4 5.5 I have a data cluster store in SAN with 8 Mon, I need to remove 3 Lun (to be used for other purposes) what is the appropriate procedure

to remove the Lun (end then to destroy)? Thank you

Do you want the LUN to use for purpose of non-vSphere? If so, you can just storage vMotion virtual machines since associated LUN data warehouses that you want to decommission (or simply putting the data store in maintenance mode, in this way, that the virtual machines will automatically be migrated). Cleaning after the data store, move the data store from the cluster data store, and then delete the VMware environment data store as described here: best practices: how to properly remove a unit number logic of a host ESX - VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

  • To a new cluster of vcenter 4.1

I have two vmware 4.1 with separate storage clusters.  The two groups have no direct access to the storage of each other.  I am all of my VM migration to the new cluster.  The latest VM on my list is vcenter himself.

I use vswitches distributed on my new cluster.

I'm trying to think of a simple way of migration and drop my vcenter server from one cluster to another without falling on many problems.  I can't stop it and do a server/storage vmotion because I need vcenter to vmotion.

One idea I had was to use vmware converter to move it to the new cluster.  It power off on the old cluster and on the new power.  Everyone thinks it would work ok?

    Billy

If you have a mount LUNS or NFS temporary swing in clusters (or at least a host of each), you can do the following:

1 put the temp data store online in both groups

2 storage vMotion your vCenter for storage to the swing server

3 vSphere client as root on the host where the vCenter

    4. free off the vCenter Server

5 unregister it / remove inventory (don't delete disk of course)

    6. client vSphere as the root of the host target in the new cluster who sees the same storage

7 browse the approriate time shared data store, right-click the .vmx and save it

    8. Select the port vDS group appropriate to change the settings, then turn on the computer, virtual

    8. give him the time to get online and update of the inventory of the hosts

    9. open client vSphere vCenter Server

    10. notes that the summary page of the vCenter VM specifies the correct host in the new cluster

    11. when the content, svMotion in the data store permanent desired

As always, make sure you have good backups, or a clone of standby, you can switch to if you experience complications (unlikely).  I would also make sure the target VLAN has been tested on the new cluster.  If you have problems with vCenter get the update of the inventory (unlikely), you can restart the agents of management on the source and target hosts.

  • Create virtual machines in a cluster with vCenter Lab Manager?

Hi, I will be putting in place of Lab Manager in the near future.  I already have virtual machines in the vsphere cluster I want to start dealing with Lab manager. Should I remove these virtual machines before the implementation of labmanger?  I'll still be able to create and host virtual machines outside the sottware to labmanger, on the hosts in the cluster of Lab Manager?

    Thanks for the help

    Raymond Golden

    VCP3, VCP4, MCSA,Net, was DRY.

Yes, you can certainly mix "regular" VM and VM Lab Manager in the same cluster.  Just Lab Manager server knows nothing about the virtual machines created in vCenter.

You could also separate them from resource pools... Director of the laboratory can be assigned to just use a pool of resources rather than the entire cluster.

  • A cluster of vCenter will share a single data store on a NAS?

I have a vCenter 3 ESX host cluster. I want that these 3 hosts to share a single data store on a NAS (Dell Powervault md36xxi).

The goal is that if one of the hosts go down, the other two still have access to the unique shared data store on the NAS.

So far, I've been able to create a separate data store for each host on my NAS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Since we normally have a 1:1 mapping between LUNS and data store, if the three hosts share the same LUN, then they will also share the data store even... just the map the LUN to all three hosts, using the vCenter create a store of data with vmfs format and three guests will share the data store. If after having create the data store on the hosts of the first, if other hosts do not see yet the store data, just try to rescan the host for new storage devices and data warehouses.

  • Add new host esxi 5.1 for the existing cluster of vcenter

    Hello

I would like to add a new host Virgin esxi 5.1 to an existing cluster from the vcenter. What are the things that I have to preconfigure on the host before add you it? I configured the network already, storage will be implemented when I add it to the cluster, right?

So, what I ended up doing was just set up time, networking and dns. I then added the host while he was in maintenance mode. I have a Compellent SAN storage and im using a folder in compellent to map all my Lun, then I can just add a new host in this folder, and it will automatically map all volumes to the newly added host once I go into vmware and make a new analysis on the FC HBA host (do FC fabric SW zoning first of course). I then added a file .locker on one of my SAN LUNS scrach location/newspapers. She's.

  • Remove host vCenter (cluster)

I need to remove hosts in cluster 1 vCenter inventory (completely / permanently), then add them to the inventory of an another vCenter.  It is for reasons of SRM-prep (fyi as to why I'm doing this in the first place).

Is it possible (in charge) to Remove a host cluster (and its virtual machines) among a vCenter inventory given WITHOUT putting it in Maintenance Mode first, then withdrawal?  Reasoning is that the cluster in question has only 2 hosts and I don't want to host rest having to run all the virtual machines (or I want to stop the virtual machines).

In the end, I need a way to REMOVE (from first vCenter) 2 hosts in cluster, so they will be briefly/temporarily independent/no managed until you add the second vCenter.

Wait - I just thought to / tested something that seems to do the trick (?) --

' 1. ' disconnect ' the first vCenter host cluster.
    2. once in a disconnected state, right-click and 'delete '.  This frees licenses, etc. and basically makes the host "unmanaged" until added to vCenter another yet, but retains all of its VMS running etc and has no ill side effects-, or so it seems.

If the "Disconnect" approach is real/valid, this goes against my training/point of 'classic' view that a host given-in order to be removed from a cluster or even more, vCenter himself-MUST be put in first to leave maintenance mode.

    Thoughts/confirmation/warnings?

the disconnection and removal works perfectly.  The virtual machine will continue to function.  Once independent, "add host" in your new environment.

  • Force cluster removal?

    Hi all

We are still in the testing phase.  When deleting a cluster, we had a problem of EMC storage that caused the removal of cluster to fail.  Since then, it looks like we have some metadata corrupted, as the problem of storage has been resolved, but remove it from the cluster fails.

Is there a way to force a cluster to remove?  I know that we can delete the virtual machine, but the metadata would still be in the database of VSphere (or at least, we think it would be).

    Thank you

    Steve

We ended the search for each column of each table in the database of VCenter and the only references found in VPX_EVENT and VPX_TEXT_ARRAY.  These resembled historical transaction tables, with no metadata on the missing VM.  Consequently, on a hunch that we rebooted the server serengeti assuming it as cache associated.  When we did this, the Group was still in the list, but the cluster remove command now worked.

  • Ripping a 4.1 host in a new 5.5 Cluster WITHOUT access 4.1 vCenter Server

I have a client who has his 2 4.1 vSphere hosts in a cluster of vCenter 4.1 which is NOT under its control or access. vCenter server access is with a 3rd party that he is nervous on his account supported by a new provider. I'm looking for the safest method (preferable without interruption) to import these 2 hosts into a whole new vSphere 5.5 cluster with 2 new hosts and vCenter 5.5 server. He has access to individual hosts via the vSphere Client as well as its local based NAS storage where the virtual machine of the resident. The end result is vMotion and Storage vMotion, virtual machine on the new guests and new storage without interruption then remove the old hosts.

This is possible without any downtime of the virtual machine. However, as you deploy new fresh vCenter again, you will need to reconfigure settings HA/DRS. Also, since you have no control over the old vCenter, given old vCenter performance you can't as well. If you don't care about performance data, you're good to go.

Here's how you can make this migration:

    1. deploy the new vCenter: for your condition: vCenter device will work just fine: reference:http://www.virten.net/2013/09/vmware-vcenter-server-appliance-5-5-vcsa-limitations/

    2. create the cluster on new vCenter, set up the same.  first add your new ESXi 5.5 clustered host. Make sure that the shared on the old host ESXi storage is visible on the new host as well. If it is not possible, you can run without shared as well storage vMotion. Reference:VMware vSphere 5.1

    3. now you can add your old webhost to the new cluster, make sure that vMotion requirement are already configured:

    Documentation Centre of vSphere 5.5

    4. Add your old host to new cluster. Once you add these ESXi host in new vCenter, both will be disconnected automatically old vCenter. If your host processors are different, you must enable EVC: make sure you understand impact of the VCA, the same configuration.

VMware KB: Enhanced vMotion compatibility (EVC) support processor

VMware KB: EVC and CPU compatibility FAQ

VMware KB: Activation CVS on a cluster when vCenter Server is running in a virtual machine

    5. you can migrate your old Web host VMs to new host, once the migration is complete, you can keep your old Web host in maintenance mode and remove the same.

  • Difficulties to remove ESXi 5.0 cluster hosts

    Dear all,

    Nice day

We have a cluster with three hosts ESXi 5.0 in production environment. The vCenter Server runs on a physical machine. Now we have some hardware problems with the physical machine running the vCenter server. The average while we have a new installation of vCenter server in a new physical machine. We want to remove these three from the old machine to vCenter Server ESXi hosts and should be added to the newly installed vCenter server machine. Since these three ESXi hosts in a cluster, we put the hosts in maintenance mode to remove the hosts in the cluster, and then remove the hosts to vCenter. But if we put two hosts among three hosts in maintenance mode, the host of the 3rd has more loaded with virtual machines. This is the reason why we are not able to remove the hosts in this cluster. We're in trouble because we do not have the time for VMS.

Please let me know if anyone has the best solution to remove the old vCenter hosts and add hosts to vCenter new without time for Virtual Machines.

    Thanks in advance

    Suresh

its not required to put the host in maintenance mode to add in a vCeneter different server. We can achieve in the following steps.

    1. disable HA and DRS in existing cluster.

    2. unplug and remove host to vCenter.

    3. add hosts to the cluster created again vCenter.

in this way the hosts avoid overloading.
