Remove the host cluster

Hi all

As we intend to eliminate one of the 3 hosts in the cluster to add another host of super power for our cluster. Should what precautions I take into account? What are the measures? Please

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Hello

1. make sure that left 2 guests can host virtual machines that are running on 3rd hosts.

2. migrate 2 remaining hosts all virtual machines

3. put the 3rd host in Maintenance mode

4 drag the 3rd outside the cluster host by using the mouse.

Kind regards

  • NEWBIE: vSwitch in a matter of the host Cluster Configuration

    Hello

I'm pretty new to vmware and will be starting my first implementation in the coming days.  I had training and have a very good understanding of what it is I'm doing it but have a few issues of networking.

If we do not have Enterprise Plus and must use Standard vSwitches on each host in the cluster (using 3 host cluster), that mean each virtual NETWORK adapter configurations on each vswitch hosts will be exactly the same?  So, if I put the vMotion group of ports on host A to use the physical network (vmnic0 and vmnic1) interface cards whose 192.168.10.1 IP address et.2.  It means that I then configure the same IPS for vMotion Port Group (vmnic0 and vmnic1) on host B and C of the host in the cluster?

If this is the case then wouldn't NIC physical on the three ESX hosts in the cluster need to have same IP configs, in which case wouldn't that cause conflicts of intellectual property, no?   Please advise if I am not clear enough.  Thankx.

    Rick,

You would need separate IP addresses for each VMkernel port that you are creating.  Thus, for example, if you create 2 VMkernel ports per host, 1 host could avoir.1 et.2, host 2 may avoir.3 et.4 and host 3 can be affectee.5 et.6.

But remember, you are not assigning IP addresses for uplink adapters (vmnic), you will then assign to the VMkernel Ports.  Your ESXi host will have a VMkernel default port for management (created during installation) which will have the IP address of your hosts assigned management.

If you create a separate network for vMotion (recommended), this would require a VMkernel port separated with the checkbox "Use this port for vMotion" checked, and who would live on, most likely, a separate vSwitch with its own uplinks.  The VMkernel port would have its own unique IP address.  You will need to repeat this configuration (with specific to host IPs) on each host.

  • Script for the host Cluster Datacenter WWN of output

    Hi all

I'm looking to create a script to the output:

WWN with WWP, Datacenter, Cluster, host

Do not know how to start with this one. I guess I'd start using Get-Data Center and get-content then from there.

    Any help appreciated,

    Rob.

    Rob,

You can try the following code. It should be a pretty good entry at the very least. I don't have a FC HBA in my lab at home to work out the kinks with the info WWN that will have to wait until tomorrow.

    $vmhosts = get-VMHost

    $HBAInfo = @)

    {Foreach ($vmhost to $vmhosts)

    $HBAs = $vmhost | Get-VMHostHba-type FibreChannel

    $DC = (get-Datacenter - VMHost $vmhost). Name

    $Cluster = (get-Cluster - VMHost $vmhost). Name

    {Foreach ($HBA to $HBAs)

    $Details = "" | Select WWN, Datacenter, Cluster host

    $Details.WWN = $HBA. PortWorldWideName

    $Details.Datacenter = $DC

    $Details.Cluster = $Cluster

    $Details.Host = $vmhost. Name

    $HBAInfo += $Details

    }

    }

    $HBAInfo

  • Add the host Cluster in the Cluster data store

How can I add host/HostCluster in the Cluster data store after the cluster data store is created. I know that we can add at this time, when you create the cluster data store, but how can we add it as soon as it is created?

I think that as long as the new host has access to all the LUNS that comprise data warehouses in the cluster data store, then no further action is necessary.

Make sure just that if using CF then zoning is configured correctly and the LUNS are not hidden from the new host.

Also, make sure you restart the analysis for new data warehouses on your new host so that it can detect data warehouses

  • Remove the host vDS

    Hello

Somehow I lost connectivity between vCenter and vSphere host. Then I run esxcfg-vswitch - l and I could see a vDS I had previously throug vDS switch config on vCenter. I tried to remove it with the esxcfg-vswitch command but I went out: "No such virtual switch" although I see when I run the command 'esxcfg-vswitch - l ". Is it possible to delete this item because my vswif0 is not accessible more I got it as a grouped under Port Group vDS and vDS (vmnic0 and vmnic1), but now I can't access it. Are there any command line for vDS?

    Thanks in advance

Please see the best documents referred to vDS migration:

The recovery to an ESX host procedure involves moving from vswif to a new temporary vs management interface. Access to the server management is necessary thanks to ILO or KVM physically connected to the server interface. After the management of connectivity is estored, use the vSphere Client to continue setting up virtual network.

Step 1: Connect to the ESX host.

Step 2: Create a new temporary vSS (tmpSwitch) and the port (vswifPg) group

    esxcfg-vswitch - a tmpSwitch

    esxcfg-vswitch - a tmpSwitch vswifPg

Step 3: Move the uplink of vDS to vSS

esxcfg-vswitch - l (to get names DVSwitch, DVPort and vmnic)

    esxcfg-vswitch - Q vmnic0 v < dvPort > < dvSwitch > (untie the vDS vmnic0)

    esxcfg-vswitch - L vmnic0 tmpSwitch (link to vswitch)

Step 4: Move vswif to vDS in vSS

esxcfg-vswif - l (get vswif IP address, netmask, dvPort id, etc.)

    esxcfg-vswif vswif0 d

    esxcfg-vswif - a n-i < ip address > < vswifPg > Pei netmask vswif0

  • Remove ESXi hosts to vCenter Cluster host even

Hi all. Depending on the subject, I would like to remove the host from an old Cluster vCenter which is no longer accessible because the database is damaged. Unfortunately I can not not to restore it because my predecessor scheduled backups. How can I do? Thank you all in advance for your answer.

All the information you have provided, I suppose there could be something in the ADAM database, which must be deleted / reset.

The assignment of license keys is stored in the ADAM database (rather than in the vCenter Server database) and with the new installation of server vCenter on the same host (old) this may not have been reset. Please take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1015268 to see if this KB will help resolve the issue.

  • How to remove a VM inventory in vcentre when the host is down

    Hi guys,.

We had a power outage today where one of our physical ESX host is dead (we have 2 VM cluster hosts).  HA/DRS unfortunately does not work as there are insufficient resources to automatically migrate the virtual machines on the host failed through to the host remaining (another separate question that I will not here address)

when the hsot went down, virtual machines have been left in the market, but were in a disconnected state (see table).  I read that you can reallocate virtual machines to another host by 'navigate to the data store and do a right-click on the vmx file and click Add to inventory and select the host. " (Ref: ) http://communities.VMware.com/thread/173314 )

However when I browse to the data store, the option 'Add to inventory' has also dimmed.  I suspect (Please confirm) that he wwas because the virtual machine in question was still at the "running" State  problematic, because that disconnected/running state, I could not close it out vcentre gui (or console, as host was dead)

can someone tell me how - if possible - can I migrate the virtual machine to another host, while in the situation described above?

If this is not possible for future situations where the host is lost, I would be better together virtual machine to stop? (this would allow me to reassign the vms can?)

    see you soon

The virtual machine will remain in the host inventory and disappear once you remove the host to vCenter inventory. What you then do - at least that's what I would probably - to be able again to power on virtual machines is to register the virtual machine to other hosts on the server vCenter Server (click right the VM .vmx file and choose 'Add to inventory')-after the correction of the host and before adding it again to vCenter Server - connect directly to this host and then delete the virtual machine already 'moved' from his inventory.

What you need to do after registration of VM for other hosts is to check the VM based backup applications (if used), because the virtual machine will receive new ID.

  • Lab Manager 4 will not release the license after the removal of host.

    Hey there,

I am running Lab Manager 4 in my infrastructure.  I recently added a lot of CPU 2 and licensed.  Shortly after, I removed the host of Lab Manager, but he has not published the 2CPUs of licensing - which means that I am able to use my license 2CPU part to add new hosts.

No idea how I can get the license for free?

    Thank you!

You must "unprepare" this ESX host in the laboratory Manager.

The 'prepare' function consumes your license, and similarly "unprepare" frees.

This ESX host appears in the overall organization > resources > Hosts?

  • How to remove ESXi host of Distributed Switch

    3 Cluster DRS - 1 x physical, 2 nested nodes in a LAB environment

I need to downgrade a 6.0 U2 ESXi host and replace it (from ESXi nested in Physics). I am trying to remove the host from a distributed switch, but it seems that I can't do that until I remove it from the Distributed Switch. I can't remove the VMkernel group management ports that prevents me to remove the host from the Distributed Switch. Any suggestions? I guess that I need that migrate to a Standard switch first?

I am connected to the ESXi host through vSphere Client, migrated the group management to a Standard switch ports, then I was able to clear the host of the distributed switch. I could then remove the host from the Cluster.

  • Removal of host SDR data warehouses

    Hello

I have a scenario where I want to migrate to a host and the VM between two clusters. I unfortunately had a number of DTS data warehouses attached to the host, no virtual machine is running from these storages of data on this host... I'm trying to disassemble stores but as expected get the error indicating that data warehouses are part of a cluster of EIM.

Is it possible to no disturbance delete Host data warehouses.

    Thank you

    Steve

So, what you want, remove some cluster DTS data warehouses and pass a host of a DRS cluster to another's is?

    Try the following steps:

    (1) remove the DTS cluster data warehouses, just move the data store outside the cluster for DTS;

    (2) move the host to the new DRS cluster target, if you have virtual machines running on it and cannot put the host in maintenance mode, you will need disconnect host, remove from the inventory and then add the host again to the new cluster.

    (3) If you wish, add data warehouses to the DTS of the new DRS cluster cluster.

  • Uninstalling vshield app requires a restart of the host?

We are upgrading vsphere 5.1 to 5.5 and plan to uninstall apps vshield to do a fresh install.  We will migrate the hosts, but not vshield apps, then install new applications in the environment of 5.5...

    Thank you!

    -anne

    Hi Anne,.

Uninstalling vShield app requires the host to restart and you keep the VMs and then uninstall of vShield manager. This will remove the filters from the NIC--> modules to remove the host, followed by restart.

If your cluster tolerates the failure of the single host, you can do without virtual machine downtime.

  • Unable to virtualize the host esx Server quadcore AMD Barcelona B3

I have a server with AMD Quad Core CPU Barcelona B3 32 GB of RAM. I installed ESX 4.0 update1 on it successfully. After that, I try to virtualize esx server on this server. I added the new virtual machine with a standard configuration. When I try to boot the cdrom ESX4.0 I get the error message shown in the attachment.

I tried with esx 3.5 and 4. Same mistake.

cpuinfo on the esx host recognizes that UC is B3.

I would be grateful no work around for this work.

    Thanks in advance

It seems that your host is in an EVC cluster configured for Opterons third generation.  VCA usurps the guest not to not CPUID settings for a 'lowest common denominator' CPU, which is, unfortunately, a B2.  Try to remove the EVC cluster host.
