Rename the name of the connection Wireless in Windows 8

In Windows 7, it was possible to change the name of the wireless connection to something meaningful (what a concept). For example my home wireless with ssid xxxxxxxx be named home wireless. When I connected to the Office Wireless (with a ssid of yyyyyyyy) he would be named Office Wireless.

This seems to be is no longer possible in Windows 8. Microsoft is way too much fun playing silly blighters. They have really taken to a whole new level with this OS.

After much research I found how to rename a wired connection, but not wireless. For the life of me I can't figure out how to do this.

I'm * NOT * request your opinion on whether I should do this. I ask * HOW * to do this. (Futile attempt to ward off the unnecessary and inevitable "you shouldn't do" or answers "I don't see why you would want to...) »)

Maybe what you are looking for requires you to access the registry to make the name change.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles

Browse the list of profiles to find the one that you need, and then change the value of string ProfileName.

You can also do this when you change wireless cards and to reconnect to the same network and the connection then presents itself as 'name 2 Wireless' or ' wireless 3 "instead of just"wireless name' name, you can delete old profiles of the same name, and then rename the current without the number on the end. "

After changes simply refresh your list of network connections to view the changes.

As always, changes in the register are not advised, so with caution, take a backup before you change etc etc.

  • Pavilion DV5-1015nr: How can I activate the connection Wireless on laptop DV5-1015nr?

After upgrading my laptop DV-5-1015nr (x 64) from Vista to Win 7 wireless switch (just above the 'Insert' key) stays red, no matter how many times I press on this subject. In Device Manager, I see the Networl cards drivers I installed Win 7' work properly': Broadcom 4321AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n Wi - Fi (sp45524) adapter and Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (Realtec v7.003.0213.2009).  HP does not offer a x 64 driver for the latter, so I got it from Realtek.

Here are the steps I've tried so far:

1 makes sure that Windows Explorer has been implemented.

2 start-> Control Panel-> Network Sharing Center-> manage network wireless-> add-> manually create a profile network-> used the settings on my smart phone which is able to connect to the Internet:

    ~ Network name: 52GT6

    ~ Type of security: WPA2-Personal

    ~ Encryptiontype: AES

    ~ Security key: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

~ Start this connection automatically: Yes

~ Connect even if the network is not broadcasting: No.

    3. click on 52GT6-connection > tab-> select as follows.

    ~ Automatically connect...: Yes

~ Connect to a more preferred...: No.

~ Connect even if the network is not broadcasting...: No.

~ Activate the WLAN connection setting: Yes

    4 OK.

I click on 'Connect to a network' and receive a notification that "no connection is available. Running a diagnostic feature of "Troubleshooting" reports that the 'wireless capability is turned off." By pressing the switch wireless does not turn on the wireless feature.

I went to this problem all day. Anyone able to help me?

  • Reconfigure the connection Wireless on Satellite M160

My wireless seems to have gone wrong somehow. The computer will not pick up or connect to my network. Is there a way I can reconfigure the connection?

    Hello

Of course, you can reconfigure the WLan settings.
First of all, I would recommend resetting the router Wlan. Check the settings of WiFi, filtering by mac address, SSID name encryption.

How have you tried to connect to the Wlan? Did you use the 3rd party Wlan client configuration tool (Intel, Atheros) or did you use the Wlan configuration option to own Windows?

If you use a 3rd party client WLan configuration tool, then the windows own option should be disabled.
I recommend to go through all the settings (encryption key, ssid) and please check if everything is good.

By the way; Please don t forget to activate the wireless on your laptop network card ;)
The switch on the side of the laptop must be turned on, and you should switch to WLan using FN + F8 key combination.

    Good bye

    Does anyone have an idea?

    Hello

    Wait a minute;
You want to activate; Modem WiFi or 3G?
Please note that WiFi is not 3G modem.

Don't forget that you have chosen and activated the modem 3G and not the WLan.

  • I lose the connection Wireless Photosmart 7525

After I print some documents on my Photosmart 7525 new and allow him to "go to sleep" I can no longer connect without power cycling of the printer.

    Windows 8

No error messages other than "unable to communicate with the printer.

I put the static IP address on the printer

Cycle power and the printer prints everything that is in the queue

Cannot ping printer until the power cycle

I have 3 computers that connect to the printer, and they all have the same question.  the other 2 are machines to windows 7.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Reset the printer to its defaults following the manual.  Reset a static IP address in the printer out of the range of the DHCP of the router (check in the router).  Set to a channel like 1.6 or 11 fixed wireless, never 'auto '.  Cycle so much power and reconnect.  Try now.

    Hi Russ,

Thanks for posting your question in the community of Microsoft Windows.

From the description of the problem, it seems that you can not save the settings of the wireless connection to a flash drive.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I'll help you fix the problem.

I suggest save wireless settings using Netsh commands to export a profile wireless existing to a XML file, then import the wireless profile settings stored in the XML file on another computer.

Follow the steps in the link below to import and export wireless profiles.

  • HP Deskjet 3522 connected wireless but windows 7/8 can't find the printer

First day, I installed and updated the printer and the software and it worked perfectly, I could print wireless and email with eprint and print it out.

The day after the computer could not detect the printer,

    Here is what I tried:

    • I tried to uninstall the printer and install again
    • factory reset
    • connect with WPS
    • installed with usb, and then try again to convert wireless
    • I set up the connection manually and also for the software settings to automatically
    • I tried the scan doctor
    • I tried with another computer
    • reset the router.

and nothing has worked. The printer indicates that it is connected, the only thing I can do, is that it works with the usb and send emails to the printer, then it might print "wireless".

Hi alex-86. A hard reset is accomplished simply by unplugging the printer while it is on and then with 30 - ish and plug again. I'm not sure that this will solve the problem that you are familiar with. If she works initially then stopped, you can consider power cycling your router as well.

It is a fairly comprehensive list of measures you should get back up and running. Let me know how it goes.

Remember - you should have only a utility for managing your wireless connection, so if you want Windows WZC to do, don't forget to disable any utility that was supplied by the manufacturer of the computer or a wireless adapter.  Frequently, the Lim utilities have an option in the user interface of 'letting Windows manage' the connection.  By selecting this option should be enough to turn off the utility of the Lim and turn on Windows WZC.

    For additional assistance, indicate:

    1. What version of Windows, including the service pack is installed.

  • Keep losing the connection Wi - Fi Windows 7

I keep losing my connection Wireless on my Dell Studio XPS 1647 running windows 7 Home premium.  I have a router netgear dual band Dell laptop, xbox 360 in my house and my other computer and panasonic tv all run on the network without any problems.  My wireless card is an intel centrino advanced-n 6200 and my card was replaced, reinstalled by Dell and updated, because they thought it was the problem.  I also turned off the power to the wireless card management to make sure that wasn't the problem.  My internet runs fine for about 10 minutes or less then slow down or completely the loss of connections.  I am at a total loss about what to do next, and would appreciate any help!

Your TV service and the phone can function properly and at the same time, your Internet connection may be down.  I always check the box attached over the outside to see if the Internet light is on when this happens.  Usually he is gone because of something done Comcast.  You didn't say which is your Internet access provider, but you can check with them.

When I call Comcast they me jump through a bunch of hoops to a canned script, that they have, which most is useless, but they said that is what to tell people.  :-(  In my case, I found that unplugging the power cord from the Comcast box for a minute or two, then reconnecting usually solves the problem without having to turn off and restart.  Usually if I simply ignore it for a period of time (usually less than one hour) it will recover on its own.  YMMV

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

I understand that you have removed the Hotmail account and Windows does not let you connect as a result of this deletion. Unfortunately, there is no other way to enter to account without using the password (if the account is active).

You can see the Microsoft Account self-help recovery article and check.

    Recover your account
