My system has been recently infected with "Windows" repair"virus. I managed to delete using Super Anti-Spyware, but all my desktop shortcuts are gone (hidden) so I downloaded "Unhide.exe" and get all my shortcuts. Most of them seems to be working as before, but there are a few, such as 'My Computer', ' Panel, "My Documents", or even "Windows Explorer", which I can't access.» When I try to open them, I get this popup box saying "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" how much he out me of my office of kicks.
The best way to solve this maybe just create a new user account, transfer your personal data to this account, and then delete the old account. Make sure that you perform the system restore after you did the new account and everything works fine. To purge the system restore, simply disable it then again. Be aware that the creation of a new user account is not the means to get rid of malware. But it is perhaps the best way to get rid of some of the after effects. However, I recommend you scan with Malwarebytes before running these instructions. After scanning you may not create the new account.
In addition, Jose is correct. Good number of new forms of malware prevent the start in safe mode. Trying to force booting in SafeMode with msconfig, you end up with a boot loop.

I saw that error and even if it says access denied it will actually save your changes. After you disable all move forward and apply then restart and see if it kept the changes. As of late, when I open any photo or video files (those that I opened in the past) I get that dreaded "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close... blah, blah, blah!
I could not find any information on this error, except the one person that I know who maintains computers of the University of Missouri, said that he had this problem, and it was somehow related to the fact that he had too many thumbnails in the folder/drive.
I didn't think that this is the case and think it is much more insidious than that. Could use any help to solve this issue up to and including the repair of Windows Explorer (with the hope that I don't have to reloadt the operating system).

You can perform a security analysis and check if there are viruses or malware present. Check out the link below to run the scan and check if this helps-

b. type the following command and press ENTER:

d. If all files require a SFC replace will replace them. Hopefully though you should, after the analysis, see the following message "Windows resource protection not found any breach of integrity.
e. once the scan is finished, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

I had this problem for awhile now. After I receive and send the error report my computer is blocked and I have to finish by WTM. I tried to start in safe mode and it was ok there and when I restarted in normal mode it was ok for the rest of the day, but when I put the computer today the problem reappeared. When the Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) is wrong (especially when right click), begin to suspect third-party add-ons explore extension.

Click on the column header for Microsoft sort display (by clicking on the column of Microsoft) then all the non Microsoft extensions are on top and easy to see.
Non-Microsoft extensions would be things you have added (non-Microsoft) and are what you should be suspect.
You can also Google the name of a suspect add-on and see if there is any success on the mistakes of the DEP and what other people have done about it.
You can Google something like:
Explorer XP crashing (you must fill in the name of add your suspect on.)
See what kind of search results hits you get and are looking for solutions or situations that sound like yours.
I'm not a defender of trial and error, but I can't think of another way to do...
Right click and disable the non Microsoft extensions one at a time (or maybe in groups of 3-5 at a time), keep a list, so you can enable them again later if you wish. The result of the change is immediate and no reboot is necessary. Test your failure condition. If the Explorer starts to behave, you will know that an extension of this group of 3-5 is the culprit in order to start to enable them one by one until the Explorer fails again.
If you recognize all the extensions that have been added or recently downloaded, start with these first.
Don't forget - disabling the extension does not uninstall the extension - it is just disabled so you can always turn it on again. In this way, you can switch back and forth, enabled to be sure, you have the right extension under control.
Disable them one at a time until your right click on do not generate an error, then restart and test again to make sure the changes 'stick '. You have disabled the last extension would be suspicious.
You can also just disable all non-Microsoft extensions, restart and allow them one at a time until you find the one that generates the condition.
If you have a large number of extensions, you can disable them is small groups, 3-5 at a time instead of 1 at a time until your system starts to behave. I have not your problem, but I can when you toggle extensions, the extension is immediately disabled, so disable an extension does not seem to require a restart, but if you think that you have found the problem, I reboot and repeat the test in any case to be sure the problem disappeared.
If you post your non-Microsoft extensions list, maybe someone will recognize it as a potential problem.

Hello, I have tried to find others with a similar problem and so far have not found that everything about my specific situation. I found how ever that this problem was mainly caused by some type of problem with a variety of .dll files in the directory system32, and it seems that this problem has different effects depending on the cause of the problem .dll file.
My problem is caused by the file user32.dll (or so it seems). When I click on the blue link in the error it say "to see what data this error report contains, click here." gives me the following information.
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: Modname 6.0.2900.5512: user32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.5512 Offset: 00009de9.
In addition, in this screen is a link to view technical information about the error report, but it is not allowing me to copy / paste the info, and there is a lot of it.
I use windows XP service pack 2, I believe. I also tried to install the automatic updates, but that none were downloaded and installed solved the problem. This problem started to occur after I inserted my CD (which is very, very old) Guild Wars. Don't know if this will help. Also, it seems that the only thing that that is rampant in this error is my taskbar, I can simply move the message to the bottom of my screen and use all the other features on my computer with no problems at all, but its still a problem annoying.

Try to restore the System to an earlier stage when things worked very well. To do this clickStart > all programs > Accessories >System Tools > System Restore and select a restore point before the bad things happened!

A few more details: after that I just got this error box, my phone never seem to connect through bluetooth for my PC to upload a photo. So I decided that part of Windows must be ventilated at the moment. So I decided that I needed to restart my PC. But he would not do.
