Replace disks

On a Dell XPS 8300 (built in 2012) I can replace Serial ATA II RAID 0 with two drives of 500 GB Seagate 2 TB disks (spindle speed: 7200 RPM, Serial ATA-600, form factor 3.5 ")?

Hi Ronfc,

Yes. SATA 3 is backward compatible. You'll probably want to clone your image of hard drive through new disks, or perform a clean installation.

  • Need to reinstall Windows 7 due to the hard failure but needing a replacement disk drive

I have a DELL N5010(no longer under warranty) and had to replace the hard drive to the 2nd time, whenever an attempt to install 64 bit Windows 7 - error code disc is displayed. My computer thinks that the disc is damaged.  Am I eligible for a replacement disk? If so, from whom MS or DELL? If this is not an upgrade disk will be enough?

You need to contact Dell for a replacement recovery disc. A upgrade disc won't work, as you would a new OEM installation with OEM key.

  • Replace disk in RAID-1 of PowerEdge 2970

I managed a PowerEdge 2970 server with a RAID-1 in place.  Recently, one of the drives has failed and we bought two replacement disks.  When I loaded one of burners in the Bay for the drive replacement fails, the PERC utility detected a foreign start-up car and I was able to import the foreign configuration, and the drive has been rebuilt automatically.  I gave the car at night to rebuild and the perfect morning it had worked.  So far so good.

I wanted to replace the other drive in the system as well.  When I took out the disc and put the second replacement, I had again a foreign configuration detected but by selecting the foreign configuration to import on startup option seemed to have no effect.  I searched the PERC utility to try to find something to make the drive added to the existing virtual disk, but no dice.  Finally I ended up putting the original screw back and managed to do the rebuild.

I tried to install the software OpenManage on OS (Red Hat) to see if I had a little better luck.  Currently, I have the original and replacement #1 player in the machine, configured as a virtual drive.  I also put the second replacement in another Bay and he appears as a foreign disk.

I tried to use the option "replace Member disk" in OpenManage but no records have been listed as possible replacements and I received the following message:

Storage Management displays only records that can be used as a member to replace. There are at present no discs that are available, large enough, or the correct type to use as a member to replace for this virtual disk.

Of the original disks are Dell 73 GB SAS model #MBD2174RC.  The replacement disks are Dell 300 GB SAS model #VJR75.

    Any help would be appreciated.

IMPORT - used ONLY when a table is offline and is not accessible (several readers showing foreigners, etc.) or when moving disks to a new controller.

CLEAR - used when a table is online and functional and a new disc is introduced or an old drive fails and is marked as foreign.

Selection of evil is a very simple way of corrupting your data.  According to your description, you're lucky, you don't destroy your data, and I guess that there is more to the story that is written (or its configuration was a relief or empty, which is unusual).

NEVER supply down to replace a hot-swap drive.

At this stage, to replace the original with a new disk, you must DELETE the foreign configuration: OMSA, storage, PERC, information/Configuration (link at the top of the page), Clear foreign business in drop-down list of tasks available for the controller.  You can do ANYTHING with a foreign disk until you have solved the foreign configuration (compensation or import).  After erasing the configuration foreign, the disc should show Ready... you will be assigned as a hot spare to start reconstruction.

After you rebuild your array will be always 68 (73 GB) in size.  If you are interested in the use of the newly available space and assuming you have a PERC 5/6 controller, the only thing you can do with the extra space is to create a second RAID array on the disks, which will appear as a separate 'disc' for the operating system.

  • Re: Replacing disk for Satellite C855-13D

    Hi all

The HD in the laptop of my wife made some rattling noise informing us that an inminet accident.
    The drive is a Hitachi SK750-640, HTS54756A9E384, CP/N H2T640854S.
She is a bigger HD, about 1-2 t or not.
I saw several models of Toshiba, but they require 5VDC 1.0 Amp or Amp while the Hitachi 1.1 required only 5 VDC @ 700 my.

My concern is whether the motherboard could or could not handle the increased power consumption.
If anyone have replaced the original HD by more, I'll be happy to hear his opinion.

    Thank you

    Hi Luis

I don't have this model of laptop, but I just want to write my opinion on Exchange of HARD drive.
As I can see disk Exchange HARD on this model of laptop doesn't have to be complicated.
All you need to do is to eliminate large ramdisk HARD cover and you will have full access to the old HDD.

In the past, I traded several HDD on my notebooks without any problem. Different different manufacturers of HARD drive on mobile platforms. I think that 1 TB HARD drive would be OK to upgrade.

I don't know what is important to your wife, but maybe you should think about the SSD upgrade. This could increase the performance of laptop computer s quickly.

    Hi Mike,.

Lucky for you that you are using non-RAID 0 and RAID 1 or your table would probably unusable.

You can determine the status of your RAID configuration using the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) software.  If you do not have this software on your PC, then you can Download IRST from the Intel web site.  I recommend that you use the latest version available from Intel.  General information can be obtained from the TSRI User Guide.  When you launch TSRI, help topics are an excellent source of information.  You can access TSRI by going to the control panel and select Intel Rapid Storage Technology. You can also access TSRI from low location of the taskbar.  TSRI should resemble a hard disk icon and it normally has a green check mark.  By default, TSRI is defined as delayed start, so don't expect to see active immediately.

    1. Launch the IRST while under Windows
    2. Click Help
    3. Click on troubleshooting
    4. Click on gradient volumes and follow the recommendations. Scroll to RAID 1.

Call the manufacturer of your computer.

    1. ask a set of recovery disks. The cost is minimal and it is money well spent.
    2. at the same time, ask to speak to a technician. Ask the person to teach you how to access the recovery of the computer partition and how to use it to restore your computer.

None of the foregoing need by using your product key.

You should be able to just replace the drive and rebuild automatically.  That said, before you do anything, make sure that your system is fully backed up.  RAID is redundancy - NOT a substitute for a backup current, functional, verified.

  • How to delete files in the folder of information system volume on replacement disks?

How can I delete files that were up on another system (XP), after that I inserted the disc into my new Win 7 system.  The files seem to be impossible to remove.  This is not a progress :)  What can I do to remove these files?  They take a significant amount of space, and I want to be able to put what I want on these drives.  What I have to get out my old XP discs just to do this?  Please tell me I don't have to (: I remember to clean my machine win 98 with the commmands BACK a file and directory at a time.)  I hope were not there...

    rfitzpa877

, This does not resolve the (ARRRG!) system volume information files, but their size is reduced to nothing...  If someone does not know how to remove these files, I would like to know how.  I formatted one of the disks and apparently not one of these folders have yet.  In fact, I bluff on that partition and formatted & that seems to have managed to get rid of these pesky files on this drive.  Am I the only one who thinks I should have control over my own system?  What is the point of having administrator rights?  Maybe it's time we give administrator rights.  I am not at all impressed by it.  From the looks of the number of points of view on this thread, I'm not the only one with this problem.  If I want to disable the protection and to get rid of the files, why I can't?

You just started to fall on this real guilty about "kits of infected roots.  Lets imagine that a crime is committed in a House.  who is instantly a suspect?  for example, wife disappears > husband is the first to be questioned.

In the case of a MS OS Microsoft has really strengthened WAY out of bounds. For half a year that I traced the issue to them anyone who or what that monitor my progress erased my data and sent me to a goose chase 6 months have no opportunity to even connect online for days or weeks I was left down my school because I was not able to turn on a computer to write an assignment or a test with any reliability.
Who got this abuse power?  They think we did by agreeing to there life private terms or agreeing to use icons 'newer and better '.  They rely solely on the low bar of duty of good faith to steal data, record and claim it as their webcam or any ones and zeros, they feel that theirs with an omniscient power of Microsoft update.  Why is Microsoft blameless when a blue screens after a system command to reboot to make effective change OS
? Read the comments around KB976902 and the "fix" KB25533552.  They have simply to virtualize all XP sp3 or later PC.  Using video to measure the ability of the PC performance and disk space querying Microsoft then begins to do what they darn well for as long as they wanted regardless of evil as being spent in graduate school.
This virtual virus haunts me, but he gave up because I happened to scan hundreds of pages of documents trying to burn DVDs or whatever it is to preserve the legal evidence (paralegals).
I had scanned drive my license to and many other pages that I think someone out there shows some mercy, at least for a little while.  Behaviour cruel and unusual of sadistic implementation of the 'virtual' virus left me broke and homeless.
Be aware, WBEM, Panther, winsxs and scoring system they say is in our interest or as these naïve technicians say blindly which is just one possible use of the 'virtual' Virus  Visual Basic and root or environment variables allows them to alter the remote registry or to set a timer to attack even when unplugged on the net.  They have no interest in the individual retail customer or small business owner.   Whenever you read "recommended", it is recommended to allow them to invade and infect their own way.
What virtual "features" are active I really don't know, when there is literally no control over any aspect of the PC.  They could using Adobe Flash network of peer-to-peer "characteristic" of the network or activate Bluetooth to create a network almost undetectable, replacement of NICs with NDIS based pilots allows them to use USB drivers to emulate any hardware driver, even turn off the LEDS of different.  Only because of the vibration of a drive external hard started to peel the onion.
I can bet my next "update" will be what I call and copyright 'virtual Virus '.
It is my opinion based on my experience real and even documenting months and months of troubleshooting the data I recorded full time has of course changed or deleted.   These facts showed me that Microsoft et al. will do anything even my personal destruction for nothing more than try to get control of my own personal private property.
By diligent and hundreds of thousands of hours, I am convinced all my personal files are monitored without legal or judicial supervision.
So yes, deleting these files is not only the best of the options, it leaves the possibility of attacking or anything be it launch at will and, therefore, it IS THE ONLY OPTION.
Hidden in the desktop.ini, fonts and all files are really seeds of the worst violations of privacy, not yet imagined by most computer experts or instructions.  Our worst enemy is so once more one inside not the perception of the public of the hacker tracking.
I submit, piracy of Microsoft operating systems is now a 2nd Amendment RIGHT because they used their OS as a weapon as damaging as any gun could be data that they killed.
By doing so and by my expert opinion and the notation of the inalienable right of the privacy of the citizens of CA. Microsoft has eliminated any claim of a right to valid author or license because they use EULA another company in they create and manage folders.
The 'virtual' Virus is clever that, as long as it is insidious.  If they deny then I ask the State of the art and my invention.  I can then request the return in court.  My remedy supposed today
?  I am only allowed the cost of the operating system regardless of the magnitude of the fraud and damage that they did to me
It is clearly stated in the EULA that they believe is valid.
Until one day I hope to be able to have my day in court before a jury educated I'm destined to become outcast among our society.

  • Adding a replacement disk in a RAID 5 (PERC S300) replacement hot

I scoured through comments and think I have the solution almost, but would confirm or correct if possible.

Have a PowerEdge R310, four 500 GB drives, RAID 5, with one of these defined as Global Hot Spare drives.  One of the spare wheel failed, hot (003) disks has done its job and kept during the RAID.

Put in the replacement drive in and can see it is Ready on physical disks via manage open.  More I noticed that he as a Non Raid virtual drive virtual drives.

I thought it was to automatically rebuild the RAID after the disc has been inserted, but it didn't.  I started to reconfigure it on existing RAID, hoping to choose the new disk and start the reconstruction, but he doesn't see the new drive as a physical drive.  I guess that's because the system has assigned the new drive as a new virtual disk.

I remove the new virtual disk, and then run the reconfigure statement the existing virtual disk of RAID 5 to add the new drive?

I hope this makes sense and I appreciate any help!  Right now my server is in place and very well, but these 500 GB drives are reliable - I lost an another late last year and replaced him.

    SBlades
Thanks for the quick response.  If I already have a spare drive (the one who took over after the failure of the other disk), it will allow me to do the new hot spare?

This player is no longer a "rescue." It is now a member of the array fully operational. You don't have a spare drive. It is also possible to have two hot-spare set.

    SBlades
I run the Reconfiguration on the RAID 5 in Open Manager after the non - RAID VD is removed?

No, Reconfigure will EXPAND a virtual disk, usually by adding a physical drive. So if you have a 3-drive RAID 5, you insert a new disk and run the statement reconfigures, you might reconfigure your 3-drive RAID 5 to 4 drive RAID 5 (is worth a drive to storage space by adding to your table/server) or a 4-drive RAID 6 (essentially a RAID 5 with a disc of relief, but instead of relief being a non-member member - only standyby player - help is integrated with the table as a full member. the RAID array results in an additional parity so that two disks can fail while maintaining the availability of the matrix, rather than wait for a player to fail before starting the reconstruction to become a member of the table; RAID 6 is usually best when using very large capacity disks).
