Replace HARD drive and then reloading the system op.

Have a desktop hp a6518f with a bad hdd.  If I replace the original hdd with 500 MB (1-1, 5 to) one, backup/restore disks, that I did install work to recharge the system op (Vista Home Premium)?  Y at - it any other way, other than buy & install Win 7/8?

Thank you.

Hello

Restore to a larger HARD drive is not a problem if the machine accepts more HARD drive. In this case, unless the BIOS plays with her, nothing would stop you to restore your computer using your backup/restore disc.

Kind regards.

  • How clone a HARD drive and then use the clone with VMware (as well as Windows works!)?

I have a system where Windows 7 is installed, and I'm doing a clone of her image of HARD drive, I then want to use in my main with VMware PC, so that I can start Windows 7 at the cloned disk.

I used Ultimate Boot CD v5.1.1 with which HDD I wanted to clone, and I cloned using EaseUs Disk Copy, which comes with Ultimate Boot CD. The source HARD drive was 250 GB in size which had 3 partitions, while the USB HDD I have attached to the system, which was supposed to be the disk of destination/clone, was 320 GB in size. I chose to create a replica, exact and up to 250 GB of data (partitions, etc.) has been copied exactly, and the rest of space was not allocated. I have now connected this USB HDD to my main PC, shot to the top of VMware Workstation 8 and defined a new Virtual Machine and chose to boot from the USB HDD.

The result is that when Windows starts (from the cloned HDD inside VMware), I get the blue screen error until I get to the login screen.

How can I change my methodology so that Windows starts even on the clone? I can change the tools I use, etc.

You can use the usb drive is
you only need to patch the system a little registry
to do this, you start the virtual machine with the usb drive in a restore win7 CD, and then follow the instructions I posted here
    http://sanbarrow.com/p2v2008r2.html

    Patching - easy Variant

This procedure is used when otherwise the VM would start in a kind of bluescreen 7B.
This means that VMware is the target and that you configure the computer virtual with VirtualHardware type 7.
It applies only if the virtual disk is configured like this
    scsi0.virtualDev = "lsisas1068".
    scsi0:0. FileName = "imported.vmdk".

On the platform target start the virtual machine, newly created in the Windows 7 recovery CD.
After the initialization is complete, click CMD and run regedit.
Select HKLM, then Menu > file > load hive.
Navigate to the Windows directory on the virtualdisk > system32\config and select the file SYSTEM.
When asked for a name enter p2v.
    Then find the key

    HKLM\p2v\ControlSet001\services\LSI_SAS

and the startup type of the REG_DWORD value 0
Select HKLM\p2v, and then click Menu > file > unload hive.
You can now close regedit and restart.
The next time you start, you can start in the 2008 R2 system. He should find the drivers and probably need to reboot when finished.

  • I want to format restore my hard drive and then reload my LR4, will be my tags / keywords be lost when I reload LR4?

All the world done this before?

    @

You don't mention if you are using a mac or windows computer...

When you format your hard drive everything above is completely erased.

When restore you, you restore your operating system only (I'm assuming that you are using the OS restore files don't not restore a backup, because if you restore from a backup then it is not a lot of sense... you will be restore all the crust, too). If you have a backup on an external drive and on a mac, if you have a time machine backup, you can restore the operating system, and then start time machine backup and restore all of your applications and your files (less the system settings) and you'll be in good shape. It may take a while, but it works very well.

If you use windows, there is probably a similar procedure, but you should get comfortable with it before formatting (in both cases).

    Hello

While you can certainly add another HARD drive in the Bay of secondary drive (you must also support and the connection cable) you can't boot from it - only in the Bay of primary HARD drive is bootable.

Your post shows your PC than the execution of win10, but it comes preinstalled with Win8x.  This means that at some point, you've done setting at Win10 level, and unfortunately, that corrupts the information of HP recovery: HP Recovery Manager blocked after Windows 10 Upgrade - HP Support Forum's - 5170752

Once you do this upgrade, the ONLY way to perform a recovery after that use HP recovery media.

Ordinarily, I advise to use HP recovery media to restore your PC to its original state. That would erase the entire disk, format the drive and install the operating system, drivers and utilities HP.

Unfortunately, there is no support of HP recovery related to HP for your PC Product Page. This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP stock is no longer the recovery media for your PC.

You can try to contact the HP customer directly, using the links below, to see if you can order them if:

If you live in the United States or the Canada, details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: once you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to someone ' one - it can take a while!

    ---------------------------------------
However, HP customer care is generally not available on weekends, so you will have to wait until Monday to contact them.

If HP no longer provides a recovery media for your model, a few other sites, you should check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

  • replacement hard drive and using recovery discs made by myself.

HPdv6 mobile 2119tx. After replacing hard drive and loading the recovery discs (which I did) successfully, now it reboot something messages cannot locate the disc or load bootable disc (sorry, don't remember the exact wording, but back to the beginning). Could this be because I replaced a 650 GB drive with a 500 GB drive.

    Hello:

Normally you cannot use recovery on a smaller hard disks.

But you should be able to boot from the first disc of recovery at least and see what happens.

To do this, you must have the first disc in your dvd player.

Restart the PC and at the beginning of your homescreen HP, tap key ESC then choose one time start in the menu.  Since then, select the DVD drive and continue.

If the ESC key method does not work, press the F9 key instead.

It depends on the type of BIOS in your PC (normally according to his age) which key you need to type.

  • can [4820tg] I replace my hard drive and always keep the Windows license?

Hey! A quick question, on an older laptop that is still alive.

    Acer Aspire 4820TG

    Windows 7 family

Can I replace the hard drive and install Windows again?

I mean, I burned the recovery CD or software any Acer asked when the computer was new. Those can be used to install Windows if I replace the current hard drive?

If so, how does the license? I guess that they can not be used on another computer, but I can reinstall all I want on this one?

    Thanks in advance!

And this laptop is awesome. Runs strong through its 4th year and the battery still pumps on ~ 4-5 hours by being careful with the use. Heh, the other parts are probably die slowly, including the hard drive.

    Well.

    Yes to all your questions.

You must use the recovery media that you have created, just check that they are still ok or create a new one, just in case where.

on the license, it's like SLIC table BIOS, so you don't need to enter a serial number and your windows will be activated automatically.
