replaceable hard disk on almost identical machine or recreate the image?

I have an old Dell Latitude D830, which seems to have a dead motherboard.

Its backed up and photographed using Windows Image in Win 7 Ultimate.

Search on ebay for an identical machine so that I can just swap the HARD drive or recreating the image.

Those that I find is built within months of the mine, but have slightly improved processors.

Mine has a core 2 duo t7250 and some that seem to be good have the same thing with a t7500.

He screw it all or if it's similar enough for a HARD drive swap might work.

If this isn't the case, a HARD swap disc then a new image perhaps?

IF I bought a replacement motherboard would only be re-inage?

Thanks for the help.

As long as the Windows 7 Ultimate FULL retail sales license, you can transfer; read this part of my answer.

If this is an upgrade license, you can transfer it to another computer, but you need an operating system that is installed to upgrade.

When you move a BONE on another machine, clean install is the recommendation

  • How to make a visible USB hard disk for a virtual machine on ESXI 4.1?

    Hi all

    As I am new to the world of vmware ESXI, I always make mistakes or I don't undertand all therefore be complete :-).

    So I have a HP Proliant ML 350 G6 Server installed with ESXI 4.1 and I want to connect a USB hard disk to a virtual machine (SBS 2K 8). Currently, the virtual machine is not able to see the hard drive.

    I already add a USB controller to the virtual machine, but my USB HARD drive is still not visible to my virtual machine.

    Can you help on that?

    Thank you

    Michael

    Next, add a USB device to the virtual computer (in the change settings tab), there are different things, USB controller and USB devices. Sometimes, you may have to restart the virtual machine.

    I have a compaq laptop with 140 MB of memory. The hard disk is almost full. I want to buy an external memory but don't know much about them, or if it's the best way to go.  Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Dave, I used CCleaner for many years.

    The way I used it, was to PERFORM the "cleaner" 3 times. Until the last race... happens, with 'o bytes. "

    Then, on the option 'Registry '.

    Yes, with the "register" option, too. "' With NO disaster! And, with the choice of NOT make backup copies, when you are prompted to do so.

    Same process run, too, until it says: "no problem found"!

    Are passed to the Glary Utilities, lately. It's a good program better, to find errors 440... to his 1st round.

    He did trying to mess up my computer? NO!

    It works better, because I DID used the program "Glary Utilities".

    There are 6 'process' to run on the logon page, it is unchecked, check it and you get a thorough 'cleaning '. There are more options available with this program it is with CCleaner, use "at your own risk!

    Who I am still 'in progress' to be, is, the REMOVAL of "Duplicate Files". As I don't want to delete the ITEMS, in this case, it removes EVERYTHING and causes HAVOC with my computer.

    CCleaner does NOT have this option.

    Once I have understand, I well a machine "squeaky-clean".

  • MacBook Pro says hard disk is almost full, startup disk is full. What should I do to make room?

    My Macbook Pro says that my disk space is low. Another notice came that my Start Up disk was almost full. I don't know if they are the same thing, but I want to know how to make room. Also, how can I get rid of the useless things I let build up because I didn't know any better. Thank you.

    Hi Taylorlaura, if you can use your Mac then move your own files of data on another drive, until you do about 50 GB of space.

    OS x: what is 'other' space about this Mac? -Apple Support

    Then download and run Omni DiskSweeper. It can show you the exact size and location of all your files. It will be the inventory of your disc from files that occupy more space. It can also give you a fairer read disk space than the Finder or storage tab of the about this Mac. If you want you can even delete files from OmniDisk Sweeper. But beware, some items may be important for your system.

  • How to resize hard disks of a virtual machine?

    Here's the scenario, we virtualized just a physical machine.

    The (c) is 20 GB, and (d) is 190 GB.  We had to maintain these sizes during the P2V, then re-run the P2V and resizing is not an option (the physical machine is in production and should maintain the current States of its disk).

    From what I can tell, these two (c) and (d) are on a virtual disk (vmdk), which is to ~ 210 GB in size.

    Now that we have virtualized, I could clean the disks and delete unnecessary data.  Now I need to change the (c) for 30 GB and I need to change the (d) to be 50 GB

    Can someone please advice of office?  How to cultivate the (c) and shrink (d) while they are both on a virtual disk (vmdk)?

    In which case it is important, we use a SAN with the left hand.  Our esx-data store is 1 TB, with plenty of room.

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris

    Highlight the host you want to convert to (could be the cluster), then right click and select "import machine".  It will then launch converter.  You can do it on by selecting 'Powered on machine' or if feed you first, you can import it as a virtual one by specifying the host / virtual center.

  • Why my computer says "Windows has detected a hard disk problem", even though it says that the drive works fine in the properties?

    Hello

    I was doing some courses on my computer until this window came on my screen and playback;
    "Windows detected a hard disk problem. I immediately went and checked in the properties to see the current status of the disk, and it says "this device is working properly" I am confused and decided to restart my computer. Again, read the error message and it says that the disc was allowed in properties. Every 15 minutes or so, the same error message. I'm running on Windows Vista Edition Home Premium and have had the computer since 2008. Is this a virus? Or - is this just the computer falsely detect a problem?
    Can anyone help please?

    Thank you very much

    What you see in the drive properties in Device Manager has to do with drivers and the drive configuration, not the real state 'physical' the reader.

    First of all, I error side of caution and if sure you have a backup of all your personal files, data, music, photos, contacts, movies, etc., external media (favorite external hard drive).

    Run the check disk (chkdsk); I suggest to run with two checked options, difficulty of file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

    How to run the check disk at startup in Vista or Windows 7

    Many manufacturers of computers and most hard disk manufacturers have diagnostic tools free you can download and run to check the status of your drive. Check on the web sites of their respective support.

  • Help, please! A master hard disk partition information lost and cannot start the Vista system

    I have Vista with my dell desktop computer.  I guess I got a virus that has deleted/messed my main hard drive.  All of sudden my computer was dead and when I try to restart, I found I can't boot the system.  I loaded the DVD for the resettlement of Dell to come with the computer and try to install it.  But it shows "Disk 0 unallocated space" with 222 GB and 'Disk 0 Partition 2 Recovery' with 10 GB.  I could not install Vista on the first, as it says "Windows must be installed on a partition formatted in NTFS.

    How could I solve this problem?  I could not allow me to format the drive because there a lot of data, that I just can't lose.

    Any help is very welcome!

    http://support.Dell.com/

    Problem with the recovery process, contact Dell at the link above.

    It's recovery process from Dell, NOT Microsoft.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try this to save your data:
    Data recovery:
    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

    Download the Vista software from the link above.

    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.

    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

    See you soon...

  • Hard disk failed to keep windows 7 for the new hard drive or SSD

    Hi, windows told me recently there is a problem with my hard drive and that I would back up my data to an external storage device, in case it fails, but don't want to backup my files because they aren't important. When I tried to access file Explorer the next day I got the warning my computer froze. I'm not him have not restarted the laptop since then in fear that it could make it more worn, since I may still need it.

    I try to order a new hard drive or SSD and won't buy windows 10 because it's expensive. Instead, I want to keep my current operating system, which is windows 7 Home premium, which is preinstalled on my laptop.  I have no recovery disks and I didn't do all the backups at all, but here is a windows 7 product key stuck on the back of the laptop.

    I was wondering if I can use the product key to install windows 7 on the new HDD/SSD and if yes, how, I would go to this topic. Also, if I can't do the wrench is it another way (because I may be able to use it yet), because I don't want to have to buy any other OS.

    Specifications:

    Laptop: TOSHIBA Satellite A660

    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

    (Let me know if you need more details)

    Thanks for any help.

    If you are still able to boot from the Windows 7 Desktop on the current hard drive, try to create a set of recovery disks. See the instructions in the following article:

    https://NeoSmart.NET/wiki/Toshiba-Recovery-disk/#Create_disc_for_Windows_7

    After you create the defined recovery disc, close, install the new SSD, then use the updated recovery disk to reinstall Windows 7 on new disk SSD.

    You will need 4 blank DVDs.

  • If I use the SSD to initiate the operating system and a hard disk of data what exactly will be the benefit of this end?

    Hello

    I would like to know if I use the SSD drive for the operating system boot and a hard drive for data. What will be the benefit of this effect,

    I know that SSDS starts much more quickly and reads and writes data faster.

    When I use the SSD for OS then my only wil advantage so I have faster from the OS, not more than

    but the reading and writing data wil either by the hard drive so I wil not use all the benefits of the SSD, data wil be read and written by hard drive!

    Am I right or wrong?

    Johan

    SSD benefits for most of the time of loading, and it is for all software. If you install Windows on a SSD and return to a HARD drive after a few weeks you will certainly appreciate the value of an SSD, just for the

    only the loading.

    While startup in Windows is the most obvious, the Windows advantage is usually a bit snappier

    on an SSD.

    An SSD expected to also help in many programs such as Photoshop, video editing, the processing speeds

    or CAD, due to data being created during the writing of these programs.

    I think the reads and writes more visible with large files.

    All my programs are on the SSD, but my games are on the HARD disk.

    Games to load a large number of data and will load faster on an SSD, but it's still a few seconds.

    and as games use a lot of Go, it is not really profitable to keep (150 +) on an SSD.

    -J' I keep most of my data, except the music (to save space) in my user folder, but haven't really

    noticed a difference in speed when opening a data file, such as a Word, PDF, images, or similar

    'small' files from the HARD drive.
    -I wouldn't take an SSD less 120 GB. Try to run Windows on a 60GB translate too

    stuffing autour with management of data between the SSD and HDD. In particular, as it should be

    keep 20% an SSD free to allow the two "garbage collection" and deliver a load of

    cells of extra memory to extend the life of the DSS (data gets moved to empty cells when the cells die).

    There is also a noticeable difference between the speeds of SATA2 and SATA 3 controller, so if your motherboard uses the SATA2 more the advantage of an SSD is not as great as with SATA3.

    In addition, the new SATA3 SSD controllers are faster than those of two years ago.

    SSD is a big enough topic. There are many items in the wild that may be useful.

  • Reinstall CS3 Web Standard after the hard disk crash. Serial number, but check the upgrade is a problem - from Mac to PC, so does not match my product calling (Studio MX Mac)

    I'm reinstalling CS3 Web Standard after a hard disk crash. I have my serial number, but after entering, it does a check of upgrade, and at the time wherever I upgraded I also did a single switch from Mac to PC - so my product calling (Studio MX Mac) has a serial number starting with "WSM600"... ", while the upgrade check won't accept - Studio MX Mac is not yet available as an option. This happened once before and I had to work with a representative by phone (I had to click in a hidden part of one of the activation screens to get a number, if I remember correctly), but apparently Adobe that does more. And the page of "www.adobe.com/go/activiation" the phone message directs you to doesn't seem to have an option for this problem either.

    So, what is the replacement or her work around this problem now?

    Hi lkauffman,

    The serial number must be unlocked for activation.

  • Windows activation delay on several processors using a pool of hard disks and hardware identical on processors

    Can I configure Windows 7 Pro before I can move a Windows Installation on a removable hard drive between several systems in the same way without reactivate Windows whenever I have turned from one system to another?

    Here's the background. I created a product that consists of about 30 systems identically equipped (the same model laptop for example) with removable drives. At the time I used Windows XP Pro as operating system. How the system is used, one of the players could be used in one of the systems, if for example Drive 1 could be inserted into the system one day 1 and 20 system work next day and always correctly. When I updated the product to use Windows 7 as OS, I can activate the operating system in a system, but when I insert it into another system the activation is not valid. The portability of the hard drives is a requirement of the product and reactivate every day is a non-starter.

  • My hard disk is almost full. What should I do?

    I have a Compaq laptop with a 250 GB hard drive. The computer is about 6 years old. Last week, I started to have messages that I was low on memory. I checked and my C drive showed that about 3 GB left. I have a drive external rebit who manages my backup. No backup on the drive C. I also have an external hard drive of 3 t. I thought stupidly that if I was short on space, it would pass to the Seagate.  Seagate, I called and they told me that I have to manually move the programs. They helped me get around a lot of programs in the drive of 3 t. I went to Control Panel then uninstalled unused programs. All together, I did not open a lot of space. I used CC Cleaner, more open space. Now I'm doing a disk defragmentation. and my C drive has about 6 GB of space. Is there something I can do? What could be eating space? I'm semi computer and spastic and need help. Thank you very much.
