Replacement of a controller SAS 6/iR with an H700 on a R310

I have a PowerEdge R310 with a SAS 6/iR controller. I want to have a H700 controller on the server.

Dell sent me a card H700 with what I suppose is the cache of 512 MB NVRAM memory attached. But they also sent me a battery.

The longer wire looks like it plugs into the controller, then the battery or the RAM module. Can I use this battery at all?

I've seen pictures of this farm where she has a few weapons plastic attached to it. This would allow the battery to fix on the controller. I don't have these weapons.

The red and black wire more short looks like it plugs into the controller and a spot on the motherboard labeled HD_ACT_CARD. Is this correct?

Should I remove the SAS6/iR controller? I think that the SAS6/iR controller is this one with the blue plastic:

The instructions provided with the H700 tell you almost anything. Is there another manual or reference a guide to what should I do?

Thank you!

Yes, you will need the battery to use the cache.  Without cache, you will have wasted your money on the H700.

The H700 will have to go to the x 8 PCIe slot on a tube of length 2.

If you do not see the readers through the new H700, there will also need you a cable to go from the backplane to the controller (8087)... the documentation is not very clear, but it seems that there is a connector on the motherboard next to SAS 6/iR PCIe slot linking readers, who probably does not work if you are using the H700 , so it would need its own cable.

  • Replace the SAS 5i/r with PERC 5i

We have a SC1435 inherited a new client who has a SAS 5i/r that failed. The customer wants us to try to recover the machine online recoverthe of the 1 73 GB RAID array data.

With this in mind, we swapped the SAS 5i/r with a PERC 5i we have in our spare parts, in the hope he could read all the metadata in the disks to rebuild the table.

The drive is detected without problem, but no logical volume is detected.

Can someone advise on my available options, that is, if I can find an another SAS 5i/r from somewhere it would detect the logical volume, or I have the option to create a new table RAID1 on PERC, but will it hose existing data, or perhaps another option, I did not thought.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

SAS 5 only supports migration to another SAS 5, but you should check to see if a foreign configuration is detected on PERC 5 just in case.

Yes, install another SAS 5 should allow the table to be detected. It is possible that the table has been altered after the failure of the former Comptroller, so a data recovery company may be required if the table is not seen by another SAS 5.

  • Upgrade a R710 with SAS 6/ir with a PERC

I have a situation to come and advice/suggestions would be appreciated...

    I have a R710 with 6 x 3.5 inches disks chassis and populated with 6 disks (2 x 136GB and 4 x 300 GB) SAS
The server was poorly specified before buying and bought with a SAS6/ir controller

The server is an Exchange area.
Operating system is on C:, which is a RAID-1 using the 2 x 136 GB SAS drives
Data on D: which is a RAID 1 using 2 of the 300 GB drives
The other 2 players are sitting doing nothing as the SAS 6/ir can support 2 virtual disks and only RAID 0 or RAID-1

The problem is the volume of data is closer to capacity and I really need to use the replacement disks.
After reviewing several options, it seems to me that the only viable solution is to get a PERC H700 and import foreign VDs but I read that import a SAS 6/ir VD containing a Windows operating system in a PERC H700 is not possible/supported.
I believe important to the volume of data would be ok and then I could use RAID level migration and online capacity expansion to add replacement discs and convert RAID-1, RAID-5, air-conditioned and with minimal downtime.

If importing an OS disk is a non-runner, is a server to rebuild the only option or miss me something?
For example, can I run a SAS 6/ir beside a H700 leaving the BONES on the SAS 6/ir and leaving the H700 handle data?  If so, how it works in what concerns the installation of the additional card in elevators and wiring to the speakers?

As I said, any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

"BSOD with the STOP 7b junior Boot Device."

This is because they use different drivers and the drivers loaded in Windows for the 6/iR do not talk to the H700.

What you might try is to boot to Windows on the SAS6/iR, with the H700 inserted (but not connected to anything), let Windows detect the device to load the drivers for it, then try to readers the PERC.

Thank you for your resjponse.  Sorry about the omission of browser.  I use IE 8.  I don't know about the sequence of import and export.  I need to know, what I can erase the bookmark.htm file before I import without which performs the import just puts a second series of folders on the laptop...

Don. I guess that I'm missing something here because I do not understand what it is you are trying to say.

First of all, let's say that computer 1 to the desired favorites. Computer 2 is where you add the Favorites. Go to the computer 1 and save (export) your Favorites. Go to computer 2. Remove all Favorites (C:\Users\Owner\Favorites.. Please be advised that your path may vary). Now on computer 2, click on the ' import '. Navigate to the file htm to computer 1. Your Favorites from computer 1 are now in place.

I just replaced the hard drive in my PC with my arrival of the damaged disc. I'm wondering now "activate Windows now". The code on the computer case was partly carried away and I do not have a record of it. The software has been activated once already. Suggestions, please.

Use a magnifying glass and a strong light and see if you can retrieve the key.  It is not registered anywhere except on the label.  They are applied at the factory in batches, and there is no record that the key is affixed to a specific computer.  Recover what you can and then try to activate by phone.

To activate Windows Vista by phone, follow these steps: click Start, and then click computer.  Click System Properties on the toolbar, and then click click here to activate Windows now in the Windows activation area.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.  The Windows of Activation Wizard starts.  Click use the telephone system automated in the Windows Wizard of Activation.

  • Replace the hard drive of 500 GB with 256GB SSD in spectrum XT Touchsmart

I tried to replace the HARD drive of 500 GB with 256 GB Samsung SSD and then began to install it using the external DVD drive, but during installation without disk hard were found. What I have to disable certain BIOS settings or I need to install the SSD in a separate location. Any kind of help is greatly appreciated.

Yupp, I could install an SSD. You need to install the drivers for RAID Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) driver (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22194&ProductFamily=Software+Products&ProductLine=Chipset+Software&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Rapid+Storage+Technology+ (Intel % C2% AE + RST) & lang = fre) during the installation of Windows 8. I extracted the drivers for USB and everything by choosing which device to install windows 8 installed drivers.

After that, the SSD has been detected and the simple installation procedure. I pasted the link for the driver, don't know whether or not it will get removed. In case it is removed just search driver RAID Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST).

  • Replace the carriage return or new line with a table space

    Hello

I want to replace the carriage return or new line with space in my column of the database.

To do this, I'm using this query:

    Select replace (replace (Comments, chr (10),' '), Chr (13),' ') OF Comments_Master

Comments_Master is the name of the table and comments is column that contains carriage return or new line.

But this query works as expected.

Once I run this query and run the query again "select * FROM Comments_Master", transport return and new line still exist.

Please let me know what is wrong with this query?

You write that data back you? This example shows that your sql should work. I thinnk the query that you just described is the updated one below.

    create table blah (text varchar2 (100));

insert into bla values (' it's multi)

    line of text ");"

    Select * from blah.

Select replace (replace (text, chr (10),' '), Chr (13),' ') of bla.

    Update text bla = replace (replace (text, chr (10),' '), Chr (13),' ');

    Select * from blah.

  • Upgrade T710 SAS 6/iR to PERC H700 problems

I'm trying to improve and replace a RAID controller Dell SAS 6/iR (Dell PowerEdge T710/Linux Fedora) one with a PERC H700 (SAS6/iR supports only 2 disks to or smaller). The disks on the SAS6/iR are on the H700 and all RAID 0. I did all of the BIOS and firmware updates.

When I enter the r RAID manager and each physical disk is mapped to a virtual disk. When I reboot, disk sizes are reported correctly in the system, but the partitions are listed as 'unknown format' and are unreadable. (I'm starting off the coast of the SATA because I'm tired to destroy the system disk. I know that I might have to do a complete OS resinstall anyway.

I tried to set up foreign auto import to on and off.

    Making matters worse, after I removed the H700 restore 6 I / R, 6 I / R no longer sees the drives.

The manual of Dell for the PERC H700 says

"The virtual disks created on a PERC 6 and H200 controller family can be migrated to the PERC H700 and H800 cards without risking data or loss of configuration."

But this doesn't seem to be the case for me. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

The SAS 6/iR is NOT on PERC 6 - they are very different controllers.

Migration of a SAS 6/iR to a PERC 6 / i is possible for Windows volumes, but only not bootable volumes. Although there is a small chance that it can work in all cases, a SAS 6/iR to a H700 migration is not supported, and it is more than likely, it will not work.

My advice: Install your H700, configure RAID, then reinstall.

    Thank you

    Baskervi,

Start the BIOS of the controller (CTRL-C)

    Select the controller

This will bring you to the adapter properties window.

Use the arrow keys to highlight and select Properties RAID, press on enter.

This brings you to the window again select array Type, there is now an option to view existing matrix. Using the arrow keys, select view existing array,

Select the Inactive matrix. Select manage the Array.

The only options available is to activate the table or delete the table. In order to get this controller to accept the disk configuration, select Activate array by using the arrow keys to highlight, and then press ENTER.

    Confirm Activation.

Return to the main menu and select SAS topology and check that the two tables are active.

Let me know how it goes.
