What is the most important I can go with, without causing a lot of problems? Can I put a 500 GB or more of this computer?

  I don't know the answer to your questions, except to say that no hard drive (at least in Windows Help) has never its total size available.  And the larger the hard drive, there seems to be a larger piece of unusable space.

  Of what you have said, you still have a lot of free space available. Once your hard drive becomes 60-70% full, then it's time to look for a bigger.

  In addition, please note that if you do not install a bigger hard drive, you will not be able to put the partition recovery on it.

  Another idea for you would be to install a new drive hard more to one that you have and use it to store your files, music, photos, etc on, and you can continue your the original one for the OS and programs.

  You will need to make sure that if you do that, you buy a hard drive which comes with a cable SATA data.

  There should be another SATA power cable to hang it, and you would plug the data cable into the SATA port labeled SATA1.

  Just make sure you have a player available to install and screw location or what is needed to mount the drive inside the enclosure.

  To help you do this, I enclose the link to your guide of upgrade and maintenance, which will give you step by step instructions on how to open the case and install the various components, including hard drives.

  I am trying to replace my existing drive with a new WD 1 TB hard drive. So I intend to install the new WD drive as the 2nd drive, and then run the utility WD Acronis to clone the original to the new drive.

  However, when I install the new disk, the BIOS recognizes it, but I think it appears in Windows 7 such as D drive, but it does not work. When I run Acronis, he says that it doesn't detect any WD drive.

  I went into the BIOS and ran the test drive / self-test and it passed.

  I noticed that the SATA1 controller is enabled. He didn't check before installing the drive.

  The controller SATA1 mode is RAID. Not sure that it was previously.

  You are right. It was the answer, sort of. When I started Windows 7, I went in the new disk drives and active management. I let the system assign drive letters. I then rebooted.

  Then when I came back to Windows, I was able to run the original utility WD Acronis True Image to clone my source drive to the new drive. When finished, stop the system, removed my original drive and the new drive my only drive.

  Everything works beautifully. I managed to replace my hard drive.

  I know it's a basic question, but I am trying to determine what are my options to replace a hard drive in my a566n.    The vehicle has currently two readers... master is a 40 G Western Digital (WDC WD400BB-00DEA0) and the slave is a 20 G Maxtor.    It's the slave I get messages from 'bad disc' on.

  I tried to look into it and I think I can use an "Ultra DMA" player but that is the only criterion that I must consider to ensure compatibility?       I understand as well as the ultra dma is obsolete these days.   Can I use a SATA II drive if I replace the WD and the Maxtor?

  In addition, are interchangeable terms Ultra DMA and IDE

  I want to really just be faster and a little bigger.    I'll probably look for a disk of 100 G or less.

  Most of these old lodges will not support SATA drives. The mother board "may" have SATA connectors, but generally supported BIOS for SATA is missing in custom HP settings.

  If you upgrade to Windows 7, you will be able to access your secondary hard drive and backup of files that it contains. You can also put the secondary drive in another computer that works to recover the files from the backup drive.

  Sometimes the discs just do not work.

  I have not met a problem where if you have a bigger drive they don't work, but if you get a smaller drive as an SSD, so it's almost a sure bet that they do not work.

  As I see it, you have two choices: buy a set of HP recovery disks, if they are available and hope they work.

  Or if you can read your Vista product key on the sticker COST MS 25 characters on the bottom of your PC, you can make your own Vista installation disc.

  If you are in a fault light but rewarding you can do yourself if you can read your product key of Vista on the PC of 25 characters.

  You just download the 3 files you need on the link below and read all the instructions to create a Setup bootable DVD disk using imageburn.

  Do not take into account the part of the text in the first screen shot about "extract the files in the folder of Vista."

  The files were extracted already in this folder when you ran the X14.exe file by reading the text on top of the first screenshot.

  The other thing I noticed is on the 4th page, where it shows Developer ID Microsoft Corporation. I had to type Microsoft Corporation in me, and then other codes already filled in.

  When I went to compile the ISO file, ImageBurn gave a message on a WIM file, file and ISO, and if I wanted to burn it in a different format.

  I selected no, make the ISO file.

  Hello bradoneill, if the system BIOS already takes in charge the 160 GB hard drive, it should support the 500 GB hard drive.

  Windows XP SP3 should support the 500 GB HDD in addition.

  I'll try to use the Sata port without an adapter. I've never used one of these cards, but I read some reviews that speak well of them. Some reported they have caused data errors, but that might have in the early days when these devices first became available.

  If you can and should use the adapter, you can use it on the DVD player if you need to liberate one of the Sata ports. This would almost ensure you no problems with this card, and if there were, it would be on the DVD drive and not the hard drive where the operating system would not be compromised.

  Just some thoughts.

  Newmodeus is about the only game in town for this kind of product. I know an organization called jacobsparts.com in my hometown has some drive hard generic 2d optical Bay adapters, but they wouldn't look nearly as good as that of your machine.

  You can add another drive to accept backups Time Machine... assuming it is correctly formatted for Mac to Mac OS extended (journaled), but things are not exactly "continue."

  You have not indicated if you intend to add the player to the USB port on the Time Capsule, or connect directly to your computer using USB or FireWire connections. Or the other method works, with the option to connect directly to the computer being the faster connection.

  Once the disc is added, you would go in Time Machine preferences (click the "clock" at the top of the screen on your Mac) to add the disk for Time Machine backups and delete the old Time Capsule disk, since backups will go is no longer this destination.

  Since you have a new drive, Time Machine will do a new full backup of your Mac and then go forward with incremental backups.
