Reset Time Capsule

Recently we have updated the modem cable from our ISP.  They feared that I had "bridged" their older modem with our Time Capsule from Apple and they have suggested that may have impeded the reliability and power of the WIFI signal.

While the installation crew got TV HD on cable and update the connection wifi and pw on most of our devices, they do not affect the Time capsule and Airport Express units. I found a great set of instructions of Bob Timmons referenced as thread 7371984 I went to reset the Time capsule and everything seems OK.  My question is - O of can now disconnect the cable between the cable modem and the Time Capsule?  Or it is part of the permanent set up now?

How works the time Capsule, it's having its own network that the internet modem simply provides a wifi signal. Which means if you have the modem (thus has its own network name) plugged in you use the name of the network of the time Capsule (everything you have created) (with the modem wifi signal) and if you unplug the modem from the time Capsule... both the Capsule and the modem will continue to work separately.

The modem makes a wifi signal

Time Capsule provides a signal to connect on its own

The two will work alone, as if you didn't know it

However, unable to connect to two different wifi at the same time with the same camera signals and this is why you use the modem connected to the time Capsule so the time Capsule has the internet and you can use with the internet time Capsule.

I hope this helps.

  • Restore backup after the reset Time Capsule (1st generation) using Windows PC

I apologize if this question is somewhere already. I tried to find an answer and I've seen similar discussions but not exactly what I need.

A bit of history... The location is a small school with about 10 cameras, its network systems, point of sale, cloud networked storage, etc. Was asked by the owner to create or activate a Guest WiFi SSID. They said he worked at the same time, but some work was done by a previous technician and they lost the WiFi of comments.

So I used the Airport utility to access the time Capsule. However, after the change to the next level (enable the public IP sharing? maybe?), he ended up destroying the entire network, as in nothing was back upward when the utility scanned for devices. Even the Time Capsule was not recognized by the utility. I ended up doing a hard reset on the Time Capsule and do my best to manually configure the device again, even though I was not initially designed the network. I have also discovered that 1st generation Time Capsules have no comments WiFi capabilities.

To make a long story short (too late... "I know sorry..) .. I got most of the features, functions, etc. on the network back where they were before, with the exception of camera systems and a network storage device active cloud to the owner's House.  What I would like to know is... Since then, I understand that a hard reset does NOT erase the backup or other data on the shared disk in the time Capsule... is there an easy way to restore the settings of all of the time Capsule before the problem occurred?  I would need to do this using a Windows computer.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. What I'm trying to avoid the most is having to reset all the cameras, which are upstairs, hard to reach areas. I guess that people who were previously assigned on the cameras must still be there. If only I could get the Capsule of time exactly where it was before he went down, which would allow me to save a lot of time and frustration.

You can also (2nd choice)... If there is a simple way to detect the active network cameras and other devices on the Time Capsule and pull the IP out of them, that would be helpful as well.

    Thanks in advance for answers!

    You have my sympathy all...

Been to this place before today... and I always get myself into it by pure stubbornness... I should just walk on some of these jobs and tell them too hard...!

What you had to do was to export the configuration before you start playing. Without export of the configuration there is not much hope of healing to less than the previous tech saved a configuration to the unit... This example gets much delicate.

The TC is actually able to contain several configurations... There is a good chance, however, that wipe you the.

Anyway... coming to the serious Tin. (same version on Mac and PC utility should work the same).

Here's my TC who foolishly a reset.

When I do something... first manual configuration, I wonder is to revert to the previous version.

You have done or could you saved the previous settings as a profile... I hope that you did... in the hope...!

IF so, you have a saved profile.

In the area of the top menu go in manage profiles.

Now, if you are lucky or did the job just last time... by accident... you'll have a saved profile... Just click back.

If nothing is there, or it's current settings... Sorry, but you didn't know something was there... and you cannot was expected to know the trouble you would get yourself in.

If you have changed a setting in the TC of the bridge in router mode...

(enable the public IP sharing? maybe?)

Getting back to what it was... mode bridge being the most common.

At the bridge of the TC does control most things... and you need to return to the main router.

If the TC kicking upward a stench to return to the bridge, reset it simply still once and then bridge will work... It would be useful to loads to remember what was the setting... just to see the bridge takes the TC of the equation to know where the cameras are.

If the cameras are on static IP, they will respond to a ping scanner... If the primary router is configured for a standard range of IP addresses... 192.168.1.xxx some.

Then the TC in bridge must have also taken an ip address in this range and the cameras (Ethernet or wireless)?

I hope that ethernet, but if they were using the TC as a wireless access point, unless you know exactly the SSID wireless as it was in the past then you do not have this info...

Look at any computer, they have in the building that was running wireless and watch all the SSID that they use... one of these is likely the TC and you can restore this name.

Or drop a camera... and ethernet allows to connect to him... and find the ssid, that it's been fixed... redefine the TC on this name (SSID) wireless security... all cameras must be able to connect to it... and you can then restore the entire system by connecting to the IP address that will be displayed in the list on the main router.

Good luck.. as says Han Solo... you'll need!

  • our airport time capsule connects to computers and the internet, but does not record on the usefulness of the airport as being there - is it dying or is their a reset?

Our computers connect via wifi to a capsule of time to the airport and to the internet, but can't find the time capsule, nor can its hard drive. Y at - it a reset, we can try or he dies. It's only a couple of months.

Turn about your Airport Extreme for 15 seconds and then power back on. As soon as you see the green light, you should be able to see him for a minute or two in the Airport utility. In the affirmative, and see if you have Back to My Mac active. If so, disable it by removing all the e-mail addresses of the back section of my Mac. Then update your Airport Extreme. Work quickly.

Many have started having this problem within the last week, probably because Apple changed something in its servers CCMM. A real difficulty would come from Apple, but it should work if you currently have active CCMM.

  • How to reset the password for the system administrator for Time Capsule?

I need to do a system restore to 2008 MacBook my wife of my 2014 Time Capsule, and I'm stuck at the system administrator password prompt. It does not accept the password to base such as revealed by the Airport utility station > base station > show passwords on my MBP, which is able to save and enter Time Machine, even if the TC is configured to use individual accounts rather than a single disk password. I'm nervous about any base station reset option in case I spoil my backup. How can I me?

Although TC is configured to use individual accounts rather than a single disk password

You must use the right of the user and the password in this case. NOT the password from the drive.

I'm nervous about any base station reset option in case I spoil my backup. How can I me?

Reset complete... It will not damage the backups somehow... It simply returns to the default values.

Let me recommend to you if you want to continue using the TC in this way... (useless IMHO). Please do an export of the configuration before factory reset you.

With the help of user and passwords in the TC is near useless. It only affects the side of the router...

If you need more security using encrypted backups... but the reality is... the security more you add less useful the backup is likely to be. As you have now discovered... When you need it... you need as clear and clear as possible.

  • reset question and encryption Time capsule

I have reset my Time Capsule with a hard reset (power off and the reset button on TC).  I've reset with the same password but do not know if my TC drive is always encrypted with the same password as before the hard reset.

I lost control of my time Capsule when I changed to "DHCP and NAT" bridge mode  My TC works in an existing network with an Ethernet connection to the modem router modem/router for the broadband (Comcast) data and a separate wireless network.  I was watching my TC and noticed a few unidentified wireless clients. Without thinking carefully, I asked myself why I was in Bridge mode and past my TC bridge DHCP/NAT form.  Oops.

I believe me who put in a double NAT situation and I have lost visibility and control my TC - I couldn't see or effect framework with Airport utility, running on a client computer wireless.  I tried several things but finally reset the TC and the same password of TC and set mode Bridge (the default value).  The backup disks safe when I look into TimeCapsule, I still show want to ensure that they have the same password as before I have not reset or tenant an encryption password.

Reset a Time Capsule will not change the format of the disc. This requires the use of disk utility with the time Capsule disk tab Airport utility. The drive isn't yet sure unless you also reformatted it. It does not read like you did.

If the Capsule worked properly in bridge mode, then be sure to return to this mode if you connect to another, not Apple, router or modem/router. If the Capsule is your only connection to a cable or DSL modem device, you can use normal DHCP.

  • Time capsule 'unexpected error' despite the reset and the IPv6 local link configuration

    Hello

I try to use a time capsule that I have not used for a long time to backup my mac.

I have adware on chrome and safari that I cannot get rid of (trovi) despite several attempts (extensions, resets etc.)

I decided to upgrade to el capitan, so that I could use software removal that does not work on Lion, but now I can't save because time capsule gives me "error unexpecetd".

I have reset the TC and I configured link-local IPv6, but am still having the same problem.

Anyone know if it is a question can be resolved?

    Thank you!

It is possible that software that you download to help get rid of the adware etc... blocking the work TM... affects a lot of bad a antivirus software on Mac OS. McAfee is one of the worst.

What operating system are you currently using?

There is no need to upgrade... but it is necessary to clean install.

Download and use Carbon Copy Cloner. You can use it for free for a month... I highly recommend you do the backup on a USB key connected to the Mac, so it can be made bootable... and then can be tested immediately.

You can use the TC and the backup to that... but you can't boot from network drives.

I can recommend you to do a clean install... just wipe the mac and start again... It's extremely better than any software removal tools.

  • Time Machine (on Mac) does not detect the airport Time Capsule

Originally posted on the page of the airport, but seems to be the better question for this group. Sorry for the double post

Looking for advice on how to get the Time Machine utility for access to my Time Capsule. I use an iMac in late 2012 with MAC OS 10.12 TimeCapsule is 2015 7.7.7 running latest firmware. Airport utility is the latest firmware 6.3.7.

When I run the application Time Machine, Time Capsule is not detected. I tried the two WiFi and with cables connected Ethernet (not tried USB yet) and my Time Capsule doesn't have a lightning bolt or firewire ports.

Open Airport utility & see the airport time capsule. I can see all connected devices, including the MAC, but no prompt activation Time Machine on the Time Capsule.

I recently used TM on this iMac with a G-Technology drive. It auto detects the time machine and executes a back up. But airport Time Capsule will not.

    Any suggestions?

Sierra has been problematic with the TC.

    1. make sure you don't have any charge virus protection software. In fact, I would say that disable all software 3rd part at the moment.

    2. make sure that you can actually write to disk of TC.

Attach the TC disc in the finder and copy a file on disk, you can delete it later... It's just to ensure that you have full write permission. If it does not for the most part, you won't be able to use Time Machine... If you can then try TM immediately...

Just to be clear, the TC is a network device. You have tested with ethernet and wireless... Ok.. They are only suitable methods. You cannot use USB. And clearly, TC has never had nor will never be ports Firewire or lightning.

    3. no chance that a reset complete TC. This will not delete the files on the hard drive, but you must make sure that the device is configured on the current computer.

    4. There are many positions in these days... read through them and do some research. Sierra is a bleeding edge new... So wait you to spend a lot of the precious liquid if you choose to be an early adopt.

  • Routers changed; How to reconnect time capsule

Changed to Earthlink DSL to AT & T u-verse fiber and time capsule airport is no longer back up; AT & T set new router; I want to use only the Time Machine backup. What I have to do a hard reset of time capsule? Is there an easier way to reconnect with my iMac? I have now connected time capsule directly in my iMac, but still no recognition. Thank you.

Whenever you change the modem or modem/router, or change service provider, the time Capsule airport must be reset to the default settings and then set it up again to work on the "new" network

A hard reset on the Time Capsule will achieve this goal. Then, make sure that the Ethernet cable connects from one of the four <>- on the Uverse router/modem LAN ports to the "O" on the Time Capsule WAN port.

Set up the time Capsule still... you can use the same name and password if you want, or set up a new name and password if you wish.

  • iPhone cannot connect to the Internet via time capsule

I have a current execution capsule 7.7.7 time. IPhones in my house can't get internet service when it is connected to the time capsule. My iPad, I tap on it now, can get internet time capsule service. My Mac can connect. I restarted the capsule of time with my modem cable many times. My passwords are correct.

I also have a smart Vizio TV that does not connect to the Internet. This is true with wifi and also with a wired connection to the time capsule.

I don't know what the cause of the problem. Any help will be appreciated.

He has worked in the past and now could not or never worked?

Apple routers can sometimes decide autonomously switch to bridge mode. If your cable modem is not a router, you MUST have the apple router... TC in your case DHCP and NAT mode.

If you have not done before you reset the TC at the factory and re-do the installation. Here are my recommendations.

    Universal factory reset

Turning off the TC... That is, remove the power supply cord or the power at the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds... Hold the reset button... be nice... Turn on always even now in reset... and keep holding in for another 10 seconds. You may need assistance because it is difficult to hold in reset and power on. It will show the success quickly flashing led front. Release reset... and wait a few minutes for the TC to reset and return with the factory settings. If the front LED flashes quickly you missed and simply try again. The reset is quite fragile in these... Press the key while it is just click away and not more... I've seen people bend lever or even break. I use a toothpick as a tool.

NB. None of your files on the hard drive of the TC are removed... This simply clears the settings of the router of the TC.

    The installer the TC.

Then redo the configuration of the computer that you want to use for TM using Airport utility.

    1. the use of very short names... NO APPLE RECOMMENDED names. Without the space and pure alphanumeric characters.

for example TCgen5 for the base station and the name of the TCwifi wireless.

If the wireless is still an issue defined wireless names like TC24ghz and assigned the 5 GHz other name... eg.TC5ghz.

Finally, use fixed channels in 2.4 ghz... try 11, 9 and 6, in that order.

(leave the security for a few minutes and see if that makes a difference).

For iphone and TV with problems in your Setup program ensure that the TC is NAT and DHCP... try to use a different such as google public DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

    2. use all passwords also consistent with 1. but maybe a little longer. IE 8 and 20 characters of mixed cases and numbers... no alphanumeric non-caracteres.

** 3. If the TC is router, you can ignore this point. It is only a problem when the TC is bridged.

If ensure that the TC is always the same IP address... you will need to do this on the main router using a dhcp reservation... or a bit more complex setup by using the static IP address in the TC.

Ignore this point if you don't understand it... after the return if you drop questions.

    4. be sure that IPv6 is set correctly in the computer. IE link-local only for ethernet or wireless depending on whether you are using. Car is not good enough.

Tell us which modem cable, you have, make and model please?

The TC has problems with some popular brands... one of the SB series a modem port is malfunctioning.

  • setting up time capsule and express wired after disconnection of the airport

I have a 2 TB Time Capsule and three 3 wired express airport throughout my house.  I know that when I added first the cable express, that I had to call apple to change some settings.  Now I can't service because they are more than a year and after a recent quick breakdown (two or three) power is the airport expresses link is more and a bunch of my settings seem to have changed on the Time Capsule.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

If you think there are setting changes, then it would be better to start over.

    • First of all, you want to make a 'factory' reset on all of your base stations. This will return them to their "out-of-the-box" configuration Once finished, leave them turned off.
    • Then, we put up the Time Capsule (TC). Since it has been reset, it will broadcast a Wi - Fi unsecured network with a network name of something like: Apple network NNNNNN.
    • Use AirPort Utility on your iPhone, Mac or PC to configure the TC as a stand-alone wireless router. In other words, configure it to provide a secure WiFi network.
    • Once the TC has been configured, verify that the clients on your network can access the Internet with it.
    • If he succeeds, proceed to the next step. If this is not the case, stop and post back with your results.
    • We will now configure all of your base stations for a roaming network.
    • Power-up one of the three stations based AirPort Express.
    • Once again, you will need to use AirPort Utility to continue. The utility must now find the Express, and if all goes well, it will offer to the Express allows to extend the TC using Ethernet. It's what you want and just go through the steps automated window 'Installation '. And then on actually.
    • Do the same for the other two express base stations.
  • Can I use my time capsule for wired Internet?

The fundamental question is, I can connect my time capsule to my wireless internet router and then use the capsule to connect my iMac to the Internet with an Ethernet cable?

The back story: I have an i7 iMac late 2009 that has worked perfectly until that somewhere around OS x Lion. The update came, and suddenly the wifi became shotty; intermittent connectivity that could last from 2 hours to 2 minutes and often, the computer would suddenly turns off. So, I just took an Ethernet cable from my gateway wireless comcast directly to my time capsule and then another was running for the TC to the iMac. It worked perfectly when the router and the iMac were in the same room. Since then, we moved and there is only a single coaxial connection of work in the new House, and this room that can hold your desktop. Now, I searched high and low for a fix for the problem of wifi, without success; reset the PRAM, change the wireless channel reset wireless packet, you name it I tried it (with the exception of a reinstallation of firmware lion before the airport summary-pretend). I really do not have the money to have someone come run an Ethernet cable through my walls now or to understand the situation of coaxial cable (I tried to do it me but there are about 10 outputs and the room that I want to use seems to actually be connected directly on a former satellite Hughes-NET on the side of the House). Now, this wireless to the dream of the Ethernet connection is my only option... Anyway I can make it work?

The fundamental question is, I can connect my time capsule to my wireless internet router and then use the capsule to connect my iMac to the Internet with an Ethernet cable?

The answer is not quite as simple.

Yes... If your 'hand' wireless router is another Apple wireless router.

No.... If your 'hand' wireless router is a part 3.

However, you have two options if you have a 3rd party router that provides to your wireless network:

    (1) add an AirPort Express and it set up to 'join' the network wireless provided by your 3rd party product. Then, the AirPort Express can provide wired Ethernet cable of the Time Capsule and the iMac can connect to the time Capsule using Ethernet as well.

    (2) If you can not run the Ethernet cable... (always the best performance option)... a pair of Ethernet over Powerline adapters could be able to send the Ethernet signal via power lines the existing AC in your House.  In other words, the theory with EoP devices is that you already have the wiring in place, you must just adapters.

An adapter would be located near your router 'primary' and plugged into an outlet. A short Ethernet cable connects to the router to the EoP adapter.  In contrast, an another EoP adapter is plugged into a power outlet near the time Capsule and a short Ethernet cable connects from the adapter to the time Capsule. Then, the iMac connects to time Capsule using a different Ethernet cable as well.

Currently, I had to do a full factory reset on my time capsule to put in place a new DSL modem. now, or computer, my MacBook Pro and my iMac can't find time capsule to do back ups. What is the procedure to get my back ups return?

You mentioned that you have reconfigured your Time Capsule to work with a new DSL modem, but does not know if you reset the path used by every Mac to find the time Capsule.

If you don't reset the path to find the time on each Mac Capsule, then each Mac still remembered how to find your Time Capsule on the 'old' network, but they do not know how to find the time on your 'new' network Capsule.

Start with the MacBook Pro, and...

Click the 'clock' Time machine at the top of the screen of the Mac

    Click Open Time Machine Preferences

    Click Add or remove disks

Under the heading of the backup drives, click the drive that you see here to highlight. The disk will be named 'Data' unless you have changed the name of the disc.

    Click on remove the disc

    Close the window

    (1) try to reset the password for the utility disk AirPort

    (2) open TextEdit on the Mac and type the password in plain text in an editor window.  This will allow you to ensure that all the keys on the keyboard are recognized.  I've seen cases where passwords fail again and again because of a problem with a wrong key on the keyboard or a habit of typing that makes you believe that you enter the password one way, but the result is something else.  Be able to actually see that typed password allows to check that.
