resize boot camp partition, formatted and installed windows 7 - now cannot open in vmware fusion

Here are the steps that I took...

1 has started with the copy of Windows XP in the boot camp partition. "This is accessible from VMWare Fusion."

2 resized (from 6 GB to 18 GB) and formatted the boot camp partition.

3 successfully installed Windows 7 directly in the resized partition boot camp (not through VMWare Fusion).

4. starts in OSX (latest version), open VMWare Fusion and attempted to access the partition to boot camp/vm. Received an error message charging me to disassemble and reassemble the physical disk changes. However, since I did it, he cannot find a bootable disc, therfore making it the useless bootcamp VM.

Any help would be appreciated.

Paul

Note: These steps assume that you have a default Apple installation of Windows and a VMware Fusion Boot Camp Virtual Machine default partition and if you changed the Boot Camp partition the Virtual Machine to add additional hard disks to be virtual or RAW disk then do not use these instructions unless you backup the Boot Camp partition the Virtual Machine package first.

1. If the merger is open, close it.

2. in a Terminal (/ Applications/Utilities/Terminal) copy and paste command, as the following and then press Enter and it will remove the Boot Camp Virtual Machine meta-data partition. Note: This does not affect the Boot Camp partition to install Windows. Also make sure that you copy the entire command below "rm" line at the beginning of the ' (quote) after the p in the Camp. "

RM - dfr "/Users/$ the specified item was not found./Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines / Boot Camp."

3. start Fusion (/ Applications/VMware Fusion) and select the Boot Camp partition on the library of the Virtual Machine window, and then click the run button.

Notes: Then, an authentication dialog box appears. "VMware Fusion requires that you type your password." Enter your name and password, and then click OK. (It is necessary to remove the Boot Camp for the merge partition to access it directly).

Then, we should see a Boot Camp partition message stating "VMware Fusion prepares your Boot Camp partition to run as a virtual machine. This may take a few minutes. This occurs once. »

When the virtual partition Boot Camp Machine starts for the first time after this VMware Tools may want or will install/update and restart the virtual partition Boot Camp Machine.

  • The Boot Camp Partitions drive and abandon

I am running OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.5 early 2016, 12 inches and I am trying to load Windows 8.1 Pro using Boot Camp.  (ignore what is in the product box)

Boot Camp successfully created a program loading of Windows, including the Apple drivers on my USB.

I was able to successfully partition my HDD 256GB.  50 GB for Boot Camp and ~ 200 GB for my OS X.

After the partition, the Boot Camp program is finished and I have a screen with my Mac OS disc and my Boot Camp disk.   My Boot Camp drive is completely empty.

When I restart the Boot Camp, I gives me the possibility to remove the disc from Boot Camp.

How can I load Windows 8.1 on my Boot Camp drive?   Should I delete the disk Windows/Boot Camp Partition and start again?

Macs 2015 and more late do not use a USB Installer. Disconnect the external storage, launch BCA, delete the current Windows partition and start all over again. You must put the ISO of Windows in your Documents folder and it must be dismantled.

  • How to pass windows boot camp support software to install windows 10

It took me forever to download and save the boot camp windows software to a usb flash drive support. Now I begin the process to install 10 Windows using boot camp, he wants to download it again. How can I get around this?

El Capitan wants to do it again. If you want to ignore it completely, install Yosemite on an external drive - How to install OS X on an external drive connected to your Mac - Apple Support - and use of the BCA v 5.x on Yosemite.

    Hi @Gwpmd,

Once the printer is working, the option would be to ignore the printer software updates or you can try these external resources, which have some progress.

  • PGP Whole Disk Encryption and Boot Camp Partition

I use the PGP 10.0 Beta for the last two weeks (it is now been shipped and is the current version), and one of the new features is Whole Disk Encryption on Boot Camp partitions. It works fine - except for the fact that VMWare Fusion 3.0.1 can not load the Boot Camp partition is encrypted (it starts initially, but does not advance beyond what I suppose is the PGP bootloader).

I know that I can create a virtual machine and run Windows to work around the problem - I'm just curious to know if this is something that VMWare are willing to study and operate now PGP 10.0 has been shipped.

It seems to be fixed/supported in a future version?

    Thank you very much .

This looked interesting so I tried myself. I downloaded a demo of PGP 10.0 and encrypted to my hard drive which has OS X 10.5.8 and a Windows 7 Boot Camp partition.

After starting the machine virtual Boot Camp in Fusion, I see a black screen that says bootguard _

I guess that's also what you see?

You're right - it's the PGP bootloader which replaced the Windows loader in the MBR of the physical disk. Fusion accesses the data in the partition through Mac OS X, which already has access to the decrypted data. The boot loader assumes that the drive is always encrypted and fails when he tries to decrypt again.

Fortunately, Boot Camp VMs include a copy of the MBR (with the boot code and the partition table) in a separate file, so it's very easy to fix:

#. Start the machine virtual of Boot Camp (not native!) with a Windows CD/DVD installation (or ISO image).

#. Go to the repair command prompt.

#. Run the fixmbr command in Windows XP or bootrec /fixmbr in Windows Vista or Windows 7 to replace the MBR code.

In this way, your Boot Camp virtual machine will use the default Windows boot loader to access the already decrypted data, while the native Boot Camp startup will use code PGP MBR (which is always the physical disk) to access the prompt for the PGP password and decrypt the drive.

  • Format and reinstall Windows 10 - Dell XPS 13 9343

    Hello

I have a Dell XPS 13 9343 provided with windows 8.1 and I have upgraded to windows 10.
I would like to format and do a clean install of windows 10 and after that to create a dual boot with ubuntu.
I don't want to retrieve anything, just in any format.
    My question is:
    1. What is the best way to do it? Is there a preparation necessary before formatting (except backup)? If anyone can point me to a relevant detailed guide, it will be great.
    2. do I need to care that I want to install ubuntu in dual boot, when I format and install windows? Or just to install after windows is already installed?
    Thank you.

10 Windows will recreate all the partitions it needs. If you want to save your old settings factory Dell backup and restore use to make a bootable USB:

  • Lack of the boot camp partition

I use El Capitan OSX and I decided to install boot camp. I began installing Windows 7 and it has 100 GB. After installation in the Boot Camp Assistant the Macbook restarted and then appeared the installer of Windows 7. I started to install but then appeared the first problem - he says it takes 200 MB to install, but I had only 170 MB of space free (?) and is clearly not true, I always 70 GB left in the Mac OSX and 100 GB in the Windows side. So it will not let me install Windows...
The second problem is that it is not a boot camp partition, but it took 100 GB of memory of my Macbook. I tried to uninstall everything through the Assistant Boot Camp, but the only thing it allows me to do is to install a new windows and new partition...

    Please help ASAP!

    1. in what year is your MBP?

    2. If you tried an EFI (depending on your Mac) installation, this reference (200 MB/170 MB) is generally the EFI partition.

    3. your OS X CoreStorage volume has been reduced to 100 GB, but the creation of the corresponding partition of the BC failed.

  • Cannot use Win8 Boot Camp partition for vm installation

So I have a new installation of Windows 8 RTM (from TechNet!) new in Boot Camp. However, Fusion 4.1.3 both the Tech Preview will be forever stuck on 'Partition of preparation to present itself as a virtual machine

Fusion 5 supports Windows 8 Boot Camp.

The problem, I think you saw, a failure to "VMware Fusion is preparing to present itself as a virtual machine" can be caused by the State of the Windows registry. While I do not have a fix for this right now (us have a bug filed and work on it), I have a workaround.

The problem occurs after the Boot Camp virtual machine has been put in place, but before it is turned on for the first time as a virtual machine. Fusion strives to insert registry keys and allow drivers to the boot device, and in some situations, it is unable to do. To work around the problem, you can add these keys and activations of pilot (!) manually, under Boot Camp itself. They do not interfere with the help of Boot Camp natively.

If the problem occurs, you should

    (1) find the folder/Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Resources/naos-1.0.vmwarevm/reconfig.iso and open it in OS X, which will mount the ISO.

    (2) copy the 'bootcamp.reg' on the ISO file and copy it to a folder on your Mac, or on a USB key. We will have this file from Windows.

    (3) restart your Mac under Bootcamp native.

    (4) from Windows, find the file bootcamp.reg where you saved it and double click to add these settings in the registry.

    (5) restart your Mac under OS X, start the merge and recreate the machine virtual Boot Camp.

    (6) it is likely that it will fail again at the stage of the "preparation of your virtual machine", but it is more critical because the necessary settings have been added to the register already. What to do, is prevent the Fusion to remove the virtual machine when you acknowledge the failure. We will do this by renaming the virtual machine.

    (7) when the Committee alert error is displayed, use Terminal or Finder to rename the virtual computer. You will find the Boot Camp virtual machine in your home folder in ~/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp. Note that the ~/Library folder is hidden by default in OS X Lion and Mountain Lion, so the simplest to get this folder of the Terminal, no viewfinder. If you want to do the renaming via the Finder, open a Terminal window and enter the command "open ~/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines / Boot Camp" and Finder opens the folder normally hidden for you. Rename all of the Boot Camp virtual machine, which will prevent the Fusion to remove it as a failure, then acknowledge the alert Panel. You can rename the VM Boot Camp to 'Boot Camp', or simply drag it to the library of VM merger under the name that you gave.

  • Can I install the same Windows 7 as a Boot Camp partition AND a VM regular partion?

I've been running Windows 7 regular valuation as a VM partion.  Now that it is officially released, I bought a copy and I upgraded my Vista to Windows 7 partition and then I start under Boot Camp or Fusion 3 lets start the boot camp partition.  Starting time on a partition Boot Camp is a bit longer than on a normal partition of VM, so I find myself most of the time with the assessment of partition of the VM, but in June, it will go away.  Could I take the installation disk that I used for the Boot Camp and install it also as a regular virtual machine, or which will cause insurmountable problems for activation?  I hate to have to buy another copy of Windows 7 just to get a faster speed when I don't want to use the complete as machine when I boot Boot Camp.  Sometimes, I have to give Windows the power of the machine, so don't want to only install as a virtual machine.

Well, I wouldn't mind a call to Microsoft if they'd let me activate both, but don't want to waste our time if they would certainly not.  Anyone try this?

Ask yourself if someone illegally active copy of Windows?  This would be a pretty Brave soul to admit illegal activities.  :-\

You only have one license for Windows if you are only allowed to have a single installation to be activated at any time.  Activate a second time to remove any other installation that uses the same license (aka product key), by the Windows EULA.  Another thing is the violation of the EULA.

The 'Microsoft police' will come knocking at your door?  Who knows.  Microsoft has billions of dollars and could very well decide to use some of those dollars to make an example of a person, like how the RIAA did to people he considers pirates.    It of ultimately your decision whether to violate the EULA or not.
