  • VCP exam question - the difference between the file exchange and the swap partition?

I am currently a student at my VCP and stumbled upon a question and was hoping someone could explain the answer offered.  Essentially the question is asking why you must manually create a local VMFS volume.  The possible answers were: files of storage for the service console log, decentralized storage for all the vmkernel vmkernel swap activity Exchange files for virtual machines that are configured locally and swap files from service console for the console service RAM overcommitment.

It is my understanding that the swap partition has its own format.  When you create the necessary partitions for installing ESX format the swap partition is 'swap', not vmfs or ext - 3.  Then, because the last three options are to swap/activity files, I chose the first choice, storage for the service console logs.  This study guide says I'm wrong and the answer is VMKernel swap files for virtual machines that are configured locally.   Of course, Miss me something here...

How you store Exchange files on VMFS partition?  I thought that the swap partition is the only place to have to Exchange files, and then it is on its own partition.  You cannot store a partition on a partition.

Maybe it's the difference between a swap file and a swap partition which is tripping me?

Search for, swap space as it is usually is a place to store a replica of memory the system for the purpose of managing memory better (usually data that are accessed most often).

SWAP PARTITION is now, for the ESX SWAP space.

And the EXCHANGE FILE is for some particular VM swap space that can be used by the guest operating system. The use of this file is managed by VMkernel. Now, this swap file has some different features from the windows of i.e normal swap, linux or ESX swap space space.

  • Resize the other partitions to make room for a new.

I use a 2 TB external drive (GUID Partition Table) to store images of my computers startup disk three Macs. Like this:

The thing is - I need more space for another partition, I can resize all other partitions to get 20 GB of all less, and then create a new partition on the new free space?

    Thank you.

Not without deletion and recreation them, which will erase all data thereon. Disk utility can't change the starting point of an existing partition.

  • Resize the C partition in RAID 1 array.

I have a new Dell Poweredge T320 with 710 RAID controller.
The computer running Windows Home Server 2012 Essentials.

It has two 500 GB HDDs in a RAID1 configuration.  80 GB is allocated

for drive C (OS) and the rest to D, a data reader.

I want to resize the C drive to 120 GB to have head room.

Under WSE, I deleted the D partition and tried to expand the C partition, but that

    did not work.

How should I do for this?  A glance through the manual Perc has not

show obvious way to resize the partition.

    Thanks in advance,

    Andrew

    I've expanded the C drive.

I was using the wrong tool.  I had chosen to manage after right click on the line of the COMPUTER in Windows Explorer and got a management tool very different than what I was used to and could not extend the partition.  I arrived at the family management tool in the field of computer science administration, and it has worked very well.  There are actually four partitions, a tiny 39meg OEM partition, a RECOVERY partition / 3 gb and now a 120 GB C and the rest in D.

Sorry to be so clueless.  I've never been exposed to any Server MS except Windows Home Server, and it's very different.

Next step: Add two raid 1 virtual disks - a 2 TB and a 4 to.  I still have two empty hot berries.

Thank you and sorry to waste your time.

What you are attempting is not supported by Apple - Boot Camp: resize the Windows partition .

Can you post the output of the following Terminal commands?

    diskutil list

    Cs diskutil list

    sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk/dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt to enter your password, and there do not appear to come back. You can also see caution against improper use 'sudo' and the potential loss of data due to an "abuse" of the order.

How should I do for deletion of this?  Vista disk management won't do anything for her, apparently, it is protected in some way, but I couldn't find any option in the BIOS for this protection activation/deactivation.

Is it safe to try to remove it with for example Bootit NG or something that will damage?

As I do this is to use GParted.  Download the livecd and write them on a blank cd - start with her.

You can delete the partition hidden - beware, this will probably wipe the mbr and you will not be able to boot your system.

I do it only when I do a new install of Vista.

But you could possibly fix the mbr and resize the boot partition.

  • Swap Partition - best practices

    Hi all

What is considered a best practice to create the swap partition?

ESX 4 is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server version 5.1,

I searched their knowledge base and found the following article:

    Q. If I add several hundred GB of RAM for a system should I really more

hundreds of GB of swap space? (kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-15252)

    A. short answer:

    • Systems with 4 GB of ram or less require a minimum of 2 GB of swap space

    • Systems with 4 GB to 16 GB of ram require a minimum of 4 GB of swap space

    • Systems with 16 GB to 64 GB of ram require a minimum of 8 GB of swap space

    • Systems with 64 GB, 256 GB of ram require a minimum of 16 GB of swap space

    Thanks in advance,

    any tips?

See this topic Support of Apple

Disk utility (El Capitan): partitioning a physical disk

    'Expand volume '.

If you have several volumes on a device, and one of them is running out of space, you will be able to expand without losing the files it contains.

To enlarge a volume, you must delete the volume that comes after him on the device, and then move the end point of the volume you want to enlarge in the freed space. You cannot expand the last volume on a device. »

    1. install MAC OS in the DSS of any origin.

    2. use bootcamp, divide the similar size for WINDOWS 10.

    3. install the new fresh WINDOWS 10 correctly and updated. Yet to backup. None of the additional applications. WINDOWS is default OS.

    4. so far, I need MAC OS or WINDOWS OS correctly. Yet to backup.

    5. I need to resize smaller MAC OS, divide into partitions of DATA for data could leave the two BONES.

    6. Since then, I can't start Windows. Doesn't appear that "no device bootable bra bra bra...»

  • Size of the problems after the system partition resizing - are X 201 hard drives using a particular geometry?

I recently copied my default system hard disk (320 GB / Western Digital) on a larger hard drive (500 GB / Hitachi) which I also ordered through Lenovo.

Using a disk imager I first copied the old 1:1 the new disk drive. It gave me an exact copy of my original disk, with about 150 GB of space disk unallocated at the end of the training. I then put this copy in the system and it worked very well, I could start and work at it.

-With the help of Acronis Disk Director 11 - I moved the hidden partition Lenovo restore to the end of the new drive, and then finally I expanded the system partition to fill all the available space before this recovery partition, giving me a system about 430 GB drive.

These operation seemed to go very well at everything first, but in the end I got an alert that something had gone wrong and now the disk may be corrupted. Strange, I was able to boot from the disk and everything went well in the beginning but in fact - I now have a very weird problem: when you look in the Panel-online-online disk management management system all partitions are located and that I had the intention of size. The recovery partition (~ 17 GB) is at the end and the system partition is indicated as approximately 430GB and about 60% vacuum. Explorer Windows, however, always reports the size of the old partition (~ 280 GB) and only 10% of empty space, while if there is no resizing the partition space taken.

In other words: different parts of Windows 'see' and report to different partition sizes. Running chkdsk does not resolve the issue.

I then realized this phenomenon in the Acronis Disk Director forum and some guys Acronis replied, that problems of resizing and therefore also the difference could be due to the fact that IBM/Lenovo uses a geometry to non-standard head of 240 heads instead of 255 heads. ????  I then asked for details and - if possible - instructions - how we could solve this problem, but got no further response so far.

Any idea what he's talking about? Lenovo indeed uses some non-standard disk or geometry? I would have thought, that the access disk is the disk drivers? Lenovo have to do here? Or BIOS of the device involved here?

And finally: has anyone some experience with this problem and can give an idea how to solve this problem? I'd really like to * hate * restart everywhere have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything again!

    Michael

    Thanks for this info!

I'll try to get my wrecked HD using the Paragon suggested partitioning program and I guess, I'll also try to get a refund on DiskDirector 11, since the site explicitly, it is fully ready Windows7, which obviously isn't!

  • Find the right Partition for swap Partiton when there are PARTITION and SUBPARTITION

    Hi all

    I have a small problem:

I want to find the right cause of partitions of the partition key.  I have a partition and a Subpartition (sample - table in annex).

I leave the database to generate the partition (and name), the name is generated. I need to find for the exchange of partition

the right of Partition has cause of a given value of the partition key (in this case EVOD_PART_DATE and 20141101 value).

When I try to find the right partiton name, I would use generally not:

    SELECT DISTINCT dbms_rowid.rowid_object(ROWID) data_object_id
       FROM F_CONTRACT_EVENT
       WHERE  EVOD_PART_DATE = TO_DATE ('20141101','YYYYMMDD')

Okay, I get 2 rows, I'm expecting one, but cause the result are the subpartions, I get this:

      SELECT *  FROM ALL_OBJECTS WHERE DATA_OBJECT_ID IN ( 155159,155154);

    I see:

    EVO_DM    F_CONTRACT_EVENT    SYS_SUBP4292    155159    155159    TABLE SUBPARTITION
    EVO_DM    F_CONTRACT_EVENT    SYS_SUBP4287    155154    155154    TABLE SUBPARTITION

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for Berlin

First of all - the DOF you posted is INVALID - you do not specify a delayed segment creation for partitions. Specify you for the table.

Also, you must remove the DEFAULT value - 1 for the partitioning column. The value '-1' cannot be converted to a valid date for the virtual partitioning column value.» The default value is useless and will give confusion around the year exception err when the exception should actually provide a NULL value for a column not null.

The documentation explains how to use the EXCHANGE PARTITION and has the code example

    Maintenance of Partitions

Exchange a Partition of a partitioned Table interval

You can exchange of range partitions in a partitioned table interval. However, you must make sure that the partition of the interval was created before that you can swap partition. You can leave the database create the partition in the partition of the interval of locking.

The following example shows an Exchange partition for the interval_sales table, range-partitioned using the monthly from partitions of 1 January 2004. This example shows how to add data to the table using charge Exchange partition for June 2007. Assume there is only a local index on the interval_sales table and equivalent index have been created on the interval_sales_june_2007 table.

    LOCK TABLE interval_sales  PARTITION FOR (TO_DATE('01-JUN-2007','dd-MON-yyyy'))  IN SHARE MODE;    ALTER TABLE interval_sales  EXCHANGE PARTITION FOR (TO_DATE('01-JUN-2007','dd-MON-yyyy'))  WITH TABLE interval_sales_jun_2007  INCLUDING INDEXES;

Note the use of the FOR syntax to identify a partition that has been generated by the system. The name of the partition can be used by querying the *_TAB_PARTITIONS view of data dictionary to find the partition system-generated name.

Given that the last paragraph? That's what showed Solomon.

NOTE:-special attention to the FIRST paragraph. If you use segment carried OVER creating the partition you want to Exchange could NOT have been created yet.

Make SURE that you lock the partition as the example shows, or you will get an exception if it has not been created.

Also - we know NOT what PROBLEM you're trying to solve.

If you exchange a PARTITION of a table subpartitioned your working table should actually be partitioned using the SAME parttioning as the subparts in the source table:

In this thread I have provide the code example illustrating how the table should be created and made Exchange.
