Restore from Time capsule, but new files on the target machine, won't be wiped out

I'm trying to move files between two MacBook, however, I have been using the new MacBook for a while (like a year) and a lot of files/images/person of the most recent data on it (dataset B for example).

So I recently did a full backup on my older MacBook (say A Dataset).  I wonder if I do a "restore" time capsule backup (data set A) against my new MacBook, the new dataset would B be destroyed?

My desired outcome is to have the dataset A + B all in my new MacBook.

DataSet B backup, restoration of A DataSet, then restore DataSetB.

Please, do not restore OS X from A DataSet.

How can I see what backups are on the time capsule? My laptop is also saved to the time capsule. Everything is in 'Data' when I look through the Airport utility. Time Machine backup to a sparsebundle.

The sparsebundle will use the share name of computer. So, it should be obvious who is your Macbook and that is your Macpro.

Open the sparsebundle in Finder and keep open the subfolders until you get to the backup of each separate hard drive...

You has of course set the exclusion in Time Machine?

By default, Time Machine will exclude your second drive unless you have included it. Did you?

Once you get to this level during the backup, you can do a full restore manually whenever you want.

  • New mac connects to the time capsule but does not see the old backups

My new MacBook Pro connects perfectly to my Time Capsule, but it is not all backups that are there.  I can't scroll through them as I can with my old MacBook Pro.  The MacBook still connect to Time Capsule well and see and scroll through all the backups it.

    No idea why?

I wish that my new mac to be able to go back through the backups as does my current MacBook.

    Thanks for any help.

Since El Capo OS a lot stricter security.

You will generally not be able to simply use a backup Time old Machine as you did in the past.

Backups made by different computers must be used via migration assistant... not just opened in TM.

However, you can always copy a file or folder, you must manually via the Finder... ride the sparsebundle and access... If you have issues copy folder in the form of TM and then paste it in Finder... There are different ways to trick the it.

  • Restore from Time Capsule

I use a Time Capsule as storage for Time Machine backups. After a frost, my 2008 iMac is started directly with OS X Utilities and asking me to choose amongst, among other options, backup restore Time Machine.

When I chose it, I get as far as being able to see a 'Time Machine backups' backup that I used previously (an external Seagate HDD) and who stay tuned for iMac & called 'Data' on the network "Bryans-airport-Time-Capsule. I don't remember selection/modification of such a cumbersome name, but on this basis, I think that it's okay to training for my backups.

I then get to a list of backups, showing several iterations from today. The option ' restore from ' is gray, but seems to read "Macintosh HD on Bryan's computer," which leads me to believe he's looking for on my main HDD iMac, not on the time Capsule I thought I configured correctly in 2015. And when I select the more recent, I am led to a "search records...". "screen reader that can never find anything. Below, it reads "select the drive where you want to restore your system. If you want to use an external drive, you can connect now. »

My best guess is it is only for his own HARD drive restore, and that is not that it is due to the fact that this problem began in the 1st place. But since I don't know, this brings me to here and hope someone can confirm if this is true (or likely to be true).

Alternative to 1 restore screen was to attempt to repair/remove disk using disk utility. I did that in the hope I could fall on a way to solve the problem, but options screens was beyond my understanding and I didn't not blindly try things. At least, not yet.

Any guidance or insight is immensely appreciated.

Given that you are unable to select the internal hard drive as the place to "restore to", it sounds like your hard drive may have failed.

If disk utility can't see the player he is most likely needs to be replaced.

  • Flash DRIVE - through works of Time Capsule, but not directly to the Mac.

    What I want to achieve:

-Access to the USB - stick when it is connected directly to the MBA with USB cable.

    The working configuration:

-USB-drive ("coffee") connected to Time Capsule and used as an external hard drive to save the files (like huge-any libraries).

    Does not:

-USB-player ("coffee") is directly connected to the MBA.

    Possible cause:

-The drive is secured by a setting that I could have done on the Time Capsule and so only time Capsule can access.

    More information:

    Solved!

Well, then shame on me, but it all seemed to give my user rights to access the drive... I thought about it while searching for the settings on the possession of the car.

    Solved!

  • How to quickly delete files from Time Capsule?

I need to delete some files from a Time Capsule, but it takes a long time.

I expect files to be deleted immediately as they do through Finder on my MacBook Pro.

They are not backups Time Machine - just different files.

Probably, somewhere I have an incorrect setting.

How can I delete the files quickly?

    Thank you

I expect files to be deleted immediately as they do through Finder on my MacBook Pro.

Your computer has a 6GByte/s hard disk interface.

If you use wireless to the TC your computer has a 30MByte/s interface hard disk... According to real connection speeds...

Mac OS is extremely inefficient handling of deleting the file... What questions not at all on the interface internal very quickly... but a lot slower wireless links issues...

Use ethernet on your computer... If you do not have ethernet buy love at first sight for ethernet card... It is the best and the best lightning shot that you can buy.

El Capitan can have made improvements in this area... But apple needs to improve how basic disks are formatted on the Mac that is ineffective. It will not happen soon.

  • Problem restoring from Time Machine complex

    BACKGROUND:

I never tried to do a restore from Time Machine.

    PROBLEM:

2009 iMac internal drive is unreadable. *

Previously saved on Time Machine before the problem of disk internal.

Replaced the internal drive with 500 GB ssd

When I try to restore the iMac via Time Machine, after providing the Time Capsule password, I get the following error:

"There was a problem connecting to the server"Xxxx - airport-Time Capsule.local.""  Contact your system administrator.

When I try to connect the iMac to time Capsule, which sees the iMac, after providing the Time Capsule password, I find myself in the same place above.

When I try to use the Migration Wizard, same result.

    * I am told by the technology that has installed the new SSD, the system on the old internal drive is corrupt... but the data files are always accessible if the old drive is installed in an external enclosure that appropriate connector and wiring.

    Then... :

    1. How can I check the Time Capsule password?

    2. What is the answer to ' there was a problem connecting to the server "Xxxx - airport-Time Capsule.local." "  Contact your system administrator. » ???

    3. what other methods can I use to restore the backup?

    1. How can I check the Time Capsule password?

The password is fully accessible using a soft reset.

Press the reset button on the TC 1 s (that is, between 1-3 s).

All passwords will be at default for 5 min.

You can access the passwords via airport utility... No other router in the world, it is so easy and, therefore, has such low security like the Apple.

    Everything is revealed.

    2. What is the answer to ' there was a problem connecting to the server "Xxxx - airport-Time Capsule.local." "  Contact your system administrator. » ???

    The correct answer is $$ @ # $% * (! TC darn stupid..!)

There's a good chance you have permissions issues. This makes life that little bit more difficult, but all will be revealed.

I highly recommend you plug the TC by ethernet on the computer and do a full factory reset on it... and then set it to the top of all operating system has been installed on the iMac.

No files are lost on the hard drive and you will delete all the other problems.

So if you can't access the backup, it really is a permissions problem.

    3. what other methods can I use to restore the backup?

Connect the original on the Mac disk using a USB key on his birthplace of SATA. See if you can get your files directly from the original source.

You can also do something similar... Buy a USB... format correctly in Mac extended if it isn't already... and connect it to the TC... didn't check the TC on the disk. In any case, it's a good idea to protect your backup. You have to start no new backups on top of the old before you get your files.

Plug this drive into the iMac and set permissions... you can not do this TB... only with the drive connected locally. You should then be able to access the backup.

Migration is the best way to make the transfer, assuming that you have loaded a new computer specific OS...

Just be careful of issues using a different user or the same user as the original computer.

See here the instructions of Migration... which are a little outdated but show details much more than what apple has documented.

  • is it better to restore from time machine or from a backup cloned

I just got my replaced Mac hard drive. Of course, I did a backup first - two, in fact. One is my Time Machine stored on my Time Capsule backup. The other is a backup cloned, made with SuperDuper!, stored on an external hard drive.

Now, the mac is back with it's all new hard drive, and I was wondering: is there an advantage to restoring from a backup vs the other? Is "Restore from Time Machine backup" a better option than with SuperDuper! to restore the clone bootable? Or vice versa? Or does really make any difference at all?

Additional info: the TM and Clone were both looking at the same time (give or take a few minutes) and the Mac, at the time where it has been saved, ran the Mavericks. I also asked Apple to install the Mavericks on the new hard drive instead of El Capitan.

    Display?

    Thanks in advance.

It really makes no difference that you are restoring from.

  • iMac in suspension after restoring from Time Machine

Sorry - closed my previous thread by mistake then publish again for assistance:

    Hi - I had a late 2012 27 "IMac El Capitan 10.11.4

A few days ago a reboot is required after (I think) an upgrade of the El Capitan, but the machine hanging after the reboot, showing a gray screen, a small circle in the middle with a grey diagonal line in the circle. Under the circle turning another circular graph which gives the feeling that I have to wait for the machine to do something.

In any case, the machine was stuck in this mode then after a lot of messing around, I went for a full restore from Time Machine (which is held on a NAS). Everything seems to be going smoothly, taking 20hours. He said full restoration and did a restart, but I am now stuck on the circle of greg with the diagonal line through it again that does not heal a re-boot. Utility disk V13 (450) shows on the left:

    • Drive internal
      • Macintosh HD. I can select Macintosh HD disc and verify and repair run correctly. It shows 852 MB free space of 1.11 TB of capacity
    • Disk2
      • System basis of Mac OS x, check disk is fine. It shows 38.3 MB available 1.19 GB capacity

Maybe some sort of thing disk permissions?

  • Windows PC sees Time Capsule, but not content

I have two windows 10 PCs, configured the same way (or so I thought). The laptop can see the time Capsule to explore and view the content.  Sometimes, the desktop PC sees the time at the Airport & Explorer utility Capsule, but cannot see the content.  I'm sure it's some settings in Windows and not a problem of TC, but I don't know what to change.  I have active NETBIOS.  Time Capsule (version 7.6.4) is used only as a NAS wireless and not connected to the Internet.  Here are some parameters:

The IP address starts with 169.254; However, it also shows an IP 192.168

File sharing is enabled with a disk password.

The TC has created its own wireless network.

As mentioned, as the laptop sees the TC and the contents of folders / when I am connected to the wireless network of the TC, and the laptop does not work, I'm pretty sure it's a Windows setting that's my problem.  Last note: desktop PC is connected to my Linksys EA4500 router via an Ethernet cable and wireless network the TC via a WiFi/Bluetooth internal to Intel card model 7260; the office is a NUC Intel that I assembled.  In the past, the Office has been able to connect to the CT; all this occurred when I changed routers of the AT & T combo modem/router to a DOCSIS 3 modem and a Linksys EA4500 router.

    All thoughts welcome, thank you.

The IP address starts with 169.254; However, it also shows an IP 192.168

Sorry, but the INVESTIGATION period cannot appear as two different addresses.

Your installation of the TC program is unusual... and will cause problems...

So can you please give me the installer with some screenshots.

I can also ask why are you keeping the independent TC of the main network... which just makes life difficult. If you are forced to do so for a reason any logistics... so let me help you find a way to do within the existing network, rather than in a different subnet.

When you try to access two different IP subnets at the same time... gateway and DNS issues come to the front.

So it is not really going good work with an address 169.254 since it is self generated.

I'll assume that your linksys EA4500 takes the 192.168.x.x address which is default for linksys products.

Please change the TC in router mode... That is to say DHCP and NAT. (there is no reason that it cannot be connected to your network via the WAN port with this configuration).

You can ignore or not connected WAN warnings or cautions Double NAT.

By default, the TC will have IP 10.0.1.1

Define the NUC to take a static address on the... wireless card for example 10.0.1.10 with subnet 255.255.255.0

There must be no bridge and no dns configuration. Let the empty... or use the 192.168.1.1 address of the EA4500 (check the actual number of the ethernet configuration).

Once you have the IP address it should work.

Centuries ago, I wrote how to Mac installation... It's pretty close to the same for PC.

Time Capsule using wired for Mac for backup only.

  • can't see time capsule, but can use the wifi and mount

I have a 5th Gen (A1470) Time Capsule on our network. The WAN ethernet port is connected to a router. The TC has a static IP address, Wifi is enabled (on the TC) and router mode (bridged).

I have hard reset the Time Capsule and reconfigured as above before you perform backups on all devices.

We have two iMacs, two MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro (2009) backup fine both via ethernet (via a router and also directly in the transport CANADA ports) and connections Wifi of TC. One of the iMac running Yosemite the rest are El Capitan.

However, I have an iMac on the WiFi network that cannot find the TC in the Time Machine or the Airport utility preferences. However, it can join the network Wifi of TC and attach it using the Finder. I've also disabled Wifi and iMac directly connected to an ethernet port on the TC, but he can't find it in the Time Machine or the Airport utility preferences.

I followed the instructions from LaPastenague to Re: utility Airport can't find Time Capsule. I also reset the PRAM and SMC. No luck.

The iMac is a 2011 model.

I have an iMac on the WiFi network that cannot find the TC in the Time Machine or the Airport utility preferences. However, it can join the network Wifi of TC and attach it using the Finder. I've also disabled Wifi and iMac directly connected to an ethernet port on the TC, but he can't find it in the Time Machine or the Airport utility preferences.

Just to check... what operating system is this iMac?

You have ipv6 local link only the value... This is important.

Make sure your network is running DHCP and DNS address is the same as the other computers.

Make sure that the computer name is short, without spaces and pure alphanumeric characters.

No luck, it's time to do a reset of the TM.

    Pondini instructions still work.

I would remove plist Time Machine and redo the configuration... you don't lose the current backup... you may even do this...

    A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/A4.html

Honestly if that don't fix it... it is time to download and use Carbon Copy Cloner... because the TM became too difficult...

Depending on what operating system you are on. TM has a version of command line... TMutils.

I would like to confirm Apple it have not eliminated.

I rarely use... I think that if it does not work via the installation of normal preferences... then it became time to use CCC which is what I do. Or run them both so I don't have a good backup.

I checked the security permissions in the file and made sure that no programs are 'read only', but it won't always go beyond this point!

    Hello

What is the edition of Windows Vista installed on the computer?
Make sure that you upgrade to the correct version, some versions of Windows cannot be upgraded with the installation disc you are trying to use. For example, you cannot upgrade a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version, or upgrade a higher edition of Windows like Windows Vista Ultimate Edition, to a lower edition, such as Windows 7 Edition Home Premium. If this is the case, you will need to use the custom during installation option.
Before you attempt to upgrade, please run the Windows 7 upgrade Advisor:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/downloads/Upgrade-Advisor
Also, check if your computer is compatible for Windows 7, using the Compatibility Center:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspx
To learn more about the upgrade process, please visit the link below:

  • Server data store will automatically get updated when the new file (with the same name) is placed in the landing area

    Hi guys,.

The data store server-side will get automatically updated when a new file with the same name is loaded in the landing area?

    for example

1 data store created for server-side get the file named UK.xls (he has 5 rows)

2 snapshot created for the above data store

    3. created with the snapshot process

After that if I remove 2 lines from the same file and load again to the landing (with the same name). So by re-running the process will take the last file OR do I need to reload the file in the data store every time when there is a change in the file. We also tried with option to work but the last file was not picking up.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Please lets us know your updates.

    Please advice

    Thank you

    VT

    Hello

When you create a snapshot, you create a snapshot whose task (provided that you use a data store server-side) can be run from a job. To refresh the data, run the snapshot in a job task. If you create a task at the time the snapshot and the processes that use it, they will automatically connect and will be 'upstream' data through the snapshot in the process. You can then choose whether it would be appropriate to write the snapshot or not (for the effectiveness of performance if you want to do the straight through processing) by activating or deactivating the bucket of data staged that the snapshot written to. The snapshot in the work task means that the data is refreshed.

For the work of design to the Director, you can refresh the snapshot by running again it manually in the context menu.

    Kind regards

    Mike

  • Make a new file using the "Save as".

Bit of feedback to the staff HERE...

We use LabVIEW 8.6. and, at least in this implementation, trying to make a new VI using the command save as product a menu of choices, including none make sense to me. Sorry, but I can't say which of them will produce only makes a new file with a changed name to be refined. Trial and error product folders, but not files, replaces the original file (why would I do that, I chose save as no record) and about each result other than what I was trying to accomplish.

May you fix this in a future release, but for 8.6, I feel that I must take a class just to save the new file.

    you're not alone...

Have you tried "open extra copy?  This is probably what you want.  It will not copy the original and will keep the open source.
