Restore not working - the option to restore on my machine does not work. I've highlighted the dates. Does not work in safe mode

Original title: restoration works not

The weight restoration on my machine does not work. I've highlighted the dates but I get... impossible to restore messages. I tried switching off my virus checker (Norton) but with the same result.

Some tools Anti Virus 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.
For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:
Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...
It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:
According to what you use for malware protection, you may need to disable the product temporarily, do the system restore and then turn the products light up again when the system restore is complete.
Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.

Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.

It works for some configurations.

    Hello

I have a Dell laptop under Windows Vista Premium. I got it for about three years, and he is upset enough ok tonight. In the middle of browsing the internet, check my email, etc., all but one of my browser windows close at random, and a message appears "windows vista Security Center" whenever I try to open a new window, blocking of the site and to say that the site is dangerous and my system has been infiltrated by a Trojan horse. Then he starts the scan and says that I must buy the full to get everything to work again. I closed everything, since I already have McAfee antivirus and internet security, but it does not, and neither did any other progams. I tried restarting in safe mode to restore a backup point, but Windows does not open in safe mode, rather stick for half an hour in the middle of loading. Hi Emma,

This could be due to a virus on your computer.  Try to make a virus on your computer scan to check if your computer is infected.

    Hello

Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily disables hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

    • Click the menu button

      click Help

then select restart with disabled modules.

If Firefox does not work, you can start Firefox in Mode safe as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
    • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the problem is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps described in the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. This might help others with the same problem.

Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure)

  • Vista 64-bit Black Screen of Death, with just a mobile available slider, the system does not start in safe mode.

My system worked properly on 25 April and then something happened and now the machine comes back with "Start menu options" but will not start in one of the listed options, modes result in the same outcome.  System also starts on the Vista CD.

System begins to boot normally, shows the tracer Green Windows at the bottom of the screen, then the mouse pointer appears and moves but the rest of the screen remains black.

That's it, that's all what he will do.  I checked the settings of the computer and ran the diagnostic tests available and everything seems to go fine and passes all the tests.

I worked on my own computers for over 20 years and never been stumped before, but I must say this is a first, and I have no idea what to try to do it now.

    Help or direction is appreciated.

original title: Vista 64-bit Black Screen of Death, with just a mobile available slider, the system does not start in safe mode.

See if there is a way to tecover clean your data before doing a restore to conditions of factory that will wipe the drive of all.  You can use Knoppix http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html with a good ISO as Copier: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm as well as a blank CD (which you will need to do on another computer).  Starting on this disc and lla should give you enough access to the system (if you do not have any other means) to backup your important data.

So since you seem to have no other alernatives, you can try retoring the original factory computer options. However, if it is a hardware problem as could very well be the case, you can still encounter problems after even this drastic step.  Then you will need to consider in a reputable computer repair shop (NOT Geek Squad or or a any of these big store centers) or maybe even go back to the manufacturer for repair.   Check out several options and compare the costs, quality and guaranteed and then make your best decision.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

In the case of USB input devices, so that they work in safe mode, the system must have a BIOS with USB support for input devices and USB legacy mode must be enabled.

  • New installation of Windows 7 translates speeds very slow of the internet. Works in safe mode.

    3 weeks ago, I installed windows 7.

For some reason, internet is super slow. I noticed right away because the download of the updates took forever. I thought it was because I need to install the NIC drivers, so I only have the first. It didn't fix it. Then, I searched and tried everything I could find online. The only thing that did work was that if I boot mode safe mode with network speed is very well .

When I discovered that, in safe mode, everything was fine, that I started to disable any service that relates to networking. (As the Base and support Ip filtering engine, etc) This does not solve it so I decided to try the oppisite I started in safe mode with network and then loaded to the top of msconfig and any service that was not running in safe mode, I turned off. Thinking that I start one by one and find out what service was slowing downloads. When I booted in normal mode, the download speeds were still broken.

So I continued then to disable services, I disabled all services which have to do with networking, and to enable windows.  (Things like the service that launches programs. Yes, any program that has not been opened I could not open.) Accordingly, I have concluded that it was not all services.

This is a new installation, so I only installed firefox and flash. (no flash for the speed test) no anti-virus, etc.

Here are a few screens of speed trials. These are actually kind of funny because the download is so fast that downloads.

It is in safe mode with network speed. http://imgur.com/7VJvt

It's the speedtest in normal mode, http://imgur.com/dDp5B

    So here's what I tried.

    • disabled auto-tuning
    • disabled IPv6
    • turned off homegroup
    • reinstalled drivers
    • drivers uninstalled (for default windows drivers)
    • Install different drivers (installed a game on the asus site) and the other on the nvidia site
    • disabled many services to many-on-list really out.
    • disabled Windows defender and windows firewall.
    • I bought new RAM with the win7 update so I tested to see if the RAM was bad. I ran Memtest86 + and it failed. So I took the new RAM and he run and all past. Still doesn't solve it.
    • I reinstalled.
    • I installed another network card.
    • I installed another version of Win 7. (Installed Win7 professional first and after Win7 Ultimate)
    • reinstalled the drivers again.
    • Disable all of the services.
    • A run anti-virus programs. To make sure that there are no viruses. There are not.
    • I connected directly to my router.
    • All the latest windows updates installed.
    • Checked online to see if my hardware is compatible with Win7 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=ASUS%20P5N-D%20ATX%20-%20nForce%20750i%20SLI%20Motherboard&v=ASUS&uid=P5N-D%20BULK&l=en-US&pf=0&pi=0&s=P5N-D&os=64-bit

    Thank you.

    FIXED!

So I gave up and gave my computer to my friend at home and take a look. He brought me.

What did do? He went out and bought a new network card. I guess that despite the windows NETWORK card drivers 7 I installed windows for some reason any dislikes the network card. (NVidia nForce 10/100/1000 Mbit / s) It is built in the nice for the card mother P5N - D.

The funny thing is that 3 1/2 weeks, when I had the problem. I asked him what he thought and he said to go out and buy a new network card. When I hesitated to do so, he said he would buy the NIC if it did not work.

In any case, I hope this helps someone maybe who has the same problem, I did.

  • computer is stuck in the screen that lets you choose Safe mode or start normally

    Original title: stuck

My computer is stuck in the screen that lets you choose Safe mode or start normally. When I choose that it just goes back to the same screen. stuck in this screen

If there is a problem starting, XP is configured to automatically try to start again and you can stuck in a loop not being able to go beyond the screen boot options, or none of these startup options you choose will work only.

Sometimes, when XP has a problem starting or falls down and tries to start again, it will give you a "short" menu of boot options and none of them will appear to be good to get your system going again.  You have tried them all!

The options are similar to the Advanced Boot Options menu XP, but the only option that you need (disable automatic error system reboot) are not offered, because XP went too far during the boot process and offers a limited number of boot options.

If this is the case, you must call Options menu advanced boot yourself until you do not see the option:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

When you get the XP Advanced Options correct start menu you want to see, he has options on it like these:

    Safe mode
    Safe mode with networking
    Safe mode with command prompt

    Enable Boot logging
    Enable VGA mode
Last good Configuration known (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
    Debug mode
Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

    Start Windows normally
    Reset
    Return to OS Choices Menu

You need to choose in this menu is the option:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

Then if XP does not start normally, you will see an error screen with information and clues about the problem and then you can decide what to do next.

If you do not see the automatic restart on system failure option turn it off, you must reset your system and start typing the key F8 on the keyboard until you see her disable automatic restart on system failure option.

If you miss the window of opportunity F8, you must try again and start tapping the F8 key with more urgency (earlier and more frequently) until you see disable automatic restart on system failure, and then select.

You must keep trying the F8 menu until you see disable automatic restart on system failure option, and select it.

If your system has a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), we need to know what the screen says:

Here's a BSOD example showing information you provide:

    http://TechRepublic.com.com/i/tr/downloads/images/bsod_a.jpg

Send for the nose and the Red arrows (3 to 4 lines total).

Send all * line STOP message since there are clues in the 4 parameters.

If it looks like there is some kind of name listed in the STOP message file, send this line also.

Ignore the boring text unless it seems important to you.  We know what a BSOD looks like, we need to know what your BSOD looks like.

Answering queries and results report of the disable automatic restart on system failure screen and you can decide what to do next.

  • Firefox crashes at startup, only works in safe mode

    Hello.
As the title says, I can't start Firefox because it crashes instantly. It only works in safe mode.

That's what I've tried so far, but it did not work:

    Restored Firefox.

Reinstalled Firefox and also delete my profiles.

    Hardware acceleration disabled.

These are my recent incident reports

Thanks in advance, I hope you can help me.

Thanks for your answers, I've updated my graphics card driver, now I can use Firefox out of safe mode with disabled hardware acceleration.

There is another problem now, Firefox crashes when I try to start with Profile Manager, I use two different profiles, so I need this feature.

Here are two reports of incidents on the problem:

Thanks for your help and sorry for my English.

EDIT: I had to repair my installation of windows with the installation disc, now Firefox works, thank you Tyler and cor - el for your time.

  • computer only works in safe mode

Happens to Windows Logo and crashes, does not work in safe mode have lost Admin VAC and can't do a restore
    point

    madmacca,
We could use a little more information.

What version of Windows and service pack level are you?
Do you have an error message, and if yes what is it?
Nothing changed prior to the show starting (hardware or software)?

When you start in Safe Mode, a minimal boot and will see if this you start normally.
Here is information on the clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353
