  • Restore the backup files. Windows Vista Expert needed!

    Help!  Recently, a virus wiped out my operating system (Windows Vista).  C drive my PC had literally nothing about it.  Then I got a new VISTA OS installed by a repair shop.  I tried to restore my previous configuration from the backup I had on an external drive, using the Vista Backup & Restore utility.  This "worked" except that he restored the backup files in a separate location on the C drive.  Using the windows Explorer I see all those files that have been restored in a folder named "Thom".

    However the new Vista installation has the user name "Thomas" where a configuration complete, (Documents, Favorites, desktop, etc.), was created.  When I connect, it's the config I see (new office, new files and folders for this new user, 'Thomas'.  I want to use the configuration, (files, folders, office computer), under the former name "Thom", not this new one, "Thomas."

    I'm afraid to just delete the files under Thomas I'm afraid I'm going to destroy my access to Windows in general.  Currently, I show only a user account in the control panel.  I don't have the 'Thom' user in the folder of the user within the new configuration.  How to delete files and folders under Thomas and use files and folders in the folder named Thom that is located on drive C?

    All restoring the backup files are there, they show just a folder on drive C, titled "Thom".  When I connect to my pc it takes me to your desktop created by the new facility.  I need ALL the files in the backup (office, e-mail, files & folders), not the Setup program created by the installation of the new Vista.  I want to be able to connect to windows and have it use the backup files, which are located in this folder named "Thom" which show on the C drive.

    Can I simply combine or merge or copy the files in the folder 'Thom', I want to use in the files of the same name, (contacts, documents, Favorites, desktop), which are under the name of "Thomas"?  Can I remove folders under the user 'Thomas' and all it's files and records and hope that windows then takes me in the files that I want to use?

    I use my laptop, (HP Pavilion, 64-bit), for business and I'm dead in the water until I can access my old configuration.  I am on day 5 of this disaster and I am desperate, please help!

    Hello Reggie999,

    Thanks for the return of the response.  You can move the files/folders in the 'Thom' folder in your new user account 'Thomas '.   Or another option would be to create a new user account and call it what you want, then move the folder in this user account.

    If you create a new user account and move your files/folders to this account, it would be nice to delete the user account 'Thomas '.  Just make sure that you have all of the files in the profile that you have recently created/added.

  • Restore the data file

    Hello

    Initial situation and config:

    Server: Win2k3 Sp1 32 bit
    Database: 10.2.0.4 Standard noarchivelog mode
    RMAN catalog on different server.
    Cold backup

    Therefore, I was invited to do a restore from a backup of database. What he needs, it's to restore the controlfile, spfile and a data from a backup file complete performed via RMAN. He does NOT INTEND to use them, they just want to see their restored from the backup.

    Restore the spfile and the controlfile is not a problem, and I was able to restore them to a Test directory. But since I can't restore datafile 1 to 'C:\dest', I googled how to make these.

    I came up with these, which I think who should restore a data file to a different location, but I don't know if it's okay. And since I started on the database server, I prefer to ask first.

    The value of newname to 'C:\datafiles\datafile1.dbf' to 'C:\Test\datafile1.dbf ';
    restore the data file 'C:\Test\datafile1.dbf '.

    Would this work? It must be run with the open database altering State and work and will not somehow it. If not, can someone help me here? The only thing needed, he did restore a data file just to get...

    Thanks for the tips!

    Add this

    RMAN > run {}
    value of newname for datafile 'C:\datafiles\datafile1.dbf' to 'C:\Test\datafile1.dbf ';
    restore the data file ' C:\Test\datafile1.dbf';l
    switch datafile;
    }

    It will update the control file with the new location of this data file

  • Lightroom 6: no icon for the lrcat file association

    On Windows Pro 8.1, the catalog Lightroom 6 files with extension lrcat, are presented is no longer with an appropriate icon.

    It is not a big problem, because the files are always associated and therefore open with Lightroom. Unfortunately, I get bored easily the catalog files in Windows Explorer without the icons.

    I updated Lightroom 5 to 6 and removed version 5 before installing the new version.

    I tried to restore an icon associated with the file by changing the default program to another and return to Ligthroom. It did not work.

    Can MS I manually associate a catalog with an icon?

    See you soon,.

    Dave

    If you don't mind using Regedit, simply find the key of "DefaultIcon" under "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AdobeLightroom6.lrcat". There should be an entry there called "(Default)" value. Just pop the value of your lightroom executable (default should be "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom\lightroom.exe".) That should solve the problem for you.

  • Help restore the temporary files

    I just restored my Dell Dimension 4700 to factory settings, but before I did, I used the file and Transfer Wizard to transfer all my files on an external hard drive up, but I don't know how to restore them now that I am up and running again.  They seem to be in Temp folders.  Any help ASAP would be certainly appreciated.

    External hard drive LaCie and Genie Backup Software that comes with it is what the Temp files are on (at least this is what I think it is).  The files settings and Transfer Wizard helped me transfer my files before I restored my system to factory settings, but I do not see how to restore now.  Help

    Brooklyn Babe

    Babe from Brooklyn,
    All you need to do is to run the transfer Assistant again, and when it starts it will ask if it's the new pc or old.  Say that it's new and then he will be asked where the files are located and you direct them to the reader.  NOW, I did this on a pc once and had a little problem with the service pack level.  The SP should be the same as on the old machine.  for example, I saved on SP2, and I tried to restore the SP3 and it wouldn't work.  I had to remove the SP3 and then restore. • Try to restore the data file, get error 'you don't have permission to save in this location"in Vista

    I am new to Windows Vista, but relatively competent in older versions. I installed the software on my new desktop computer. I am the only user on this computer and I have administrative rights. I installed the software in the Program Files directory. In the software, there is a folder for the working data file. I now try to 'restore' my data on this new computer file so that I can start working. I get an error message that says "you don't have permission to save in this location. Contact an administrator. "I have considered similar questions on this site and followed the advice to take possession of the file without success. I also created a new folder on the D drive, thinking maybe Vista I just wanted to keep C clean, but it gives me the same message. I can't save to the folder I created. Any advice?

    Program Files is a protected directory. If possible you create the working folder for the data in your user account instead. Is it possible in the options of the program the program in a directory of your user account? Or, if you think that any other user you may need to use this program, you could create the directory Public. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Vista not recognizing not not Photoshop as the default file association

    After loading Adobe CS5 Creative Suites, I can't Vista recognize Photoshop as my default for images more. After the implementation of the default programs (illustrator is in this list) and finding no Photoshop in the main list, or the list of other programs, I browse and find Photoshop CS5.exe and click on use this as my default, nothing happens. It is not recognized at all. Only (weird thing) Vista recognized it for opening .bmp and Photoshop has been listed as a program for this parameter. It will not recognize Photoshop for default opening of the .jpg, .jpeg, gif and tiff. It would really help find a solution for what I use Photoshop in my work. Thank you.

  • When you try to restore the backup files, receive the error code 0 x 80070015 in Vista

    I backed up my system on an external hard drive to reinstall windows vista home. When I try to restore the files to a backup location get a meesege saying device is not ready and the error code 0 x 80070015. I was told that vista home edition is unable to restore files, then why allow them to be saved as. I really need to restore my files back. Please help me...

    Try to start safe mode and see if you can restore from there.  This was recommended to someone else with the same problem and same error message and it worked - so it can work for you (but no guarantees).

    I hope this helps.  If this isn't the case, after return and we will try to find another solution.

  • does not restore the system files after clean install

    When I click on the HARD drive which has my backup file, it says that "windows could not find and backup sets on e:\.» Please selection elsewhere. "When I click on"Refresh"this disc shows up... again.  When I look at the contents of the disc there is a file named: N360_BACKUP, however it will not recognize it, so, not restore it.

    Is there another way to restore my files? I was really counting on this form of backup, and if I can't restore it, I lost all my emails, email addresses, contacts and favorites for the past two years, no to the meniton photos, music, etc.

    I have looked at similar positions here and tried the suggestions in them with no luck.

    Hello Terryjoe,

    Thank you for your message.  The N360_Backup referred to Norton 360.  We will be more than happy to help you to restore your data, please answer a few questions first well.  What version of Norton 360 backup/restore are you using?  Below are the steps for version 2:

    1. go to the folder C:\Program Files\Norton 360\Engine\3.x.x.x, you will find a tool Arestore.exe (3.x.x.x allows 3.0.0.134 or 3.0.0.135 depending on your version)

    2. navigate to the folder C:\Program Files\Norton 360\MUI\3.x.x.x\09\01, you will find an Arestore.loc file ((3.x.x.x allows 3.0.0.134 or 3.0.0.135 depending on your version)

    3. copy Arestore.exe and Arestore.loc to the root directory where you saved the backup created using Norton 360 (the long file aside the N360_BACKUP) and run Arestore.exe.  It will look in the N360_BACKUP folder to your backup set.

    In your case, you must copy Arestore.exe and Arestore.loc to the external hard drive where you have the file N360_BACKUP. Double-click on Arestore.exe, it will work and restore all your saved data.

    If this does not work, go to the next series of steps...

    4. If she fails to find your backup set, you must delete the corrupted catalog file.

    To delete a catalog file corrupted, go to the N360_BACKUP folder.  There should be a folder with a long alphanumeric name, open that folder.  You can see a file named backup.@db.  It is the catalog file.  You must move this file in this directory (put on your desktop for added security).

    5. Once backup.@db has been deleted, go back and try to run Arestore.exe from the root directory.

    Note: This process may take some time.

  • Restore the control file considerations

    Hello expert,

    Assumpition condition is:

    All the data files and the redologs are not damaged, but the controlfiles are damaged. We must restore the controlfile autobackup with the following command:

    RMAN > STARTUP NOMOUNT;

    RMAN > backup RESTORE CONTROLFILE AUTOMATIC;

    RMAN > ALTER DATABASE MOUNT;

    RMAN > RECOVER DATABASE;

    RMAN > ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;

    Use of rman RECOVER, DATABASE redo logs to roll changes forward to control files. Can you explain what changes can be included? (Currently I only have one example: we add the new data file once the backup control file.) So we need roll forward the changes to control the file on the new added one.) Other examples?

    Thank you and best regards,

    Tong Ning

    Examine the contents of the controlfile.  He has the list of data files, the list of the archivelog files and list of rman backups.

    Archivelogs would be saved in the controlfile so that they can be applied.

    What about backups?  Subsequent backups would certainly no longer be in the controlfile.
