Restore the photos to iphoto on El Capitan

I just did a clean install of El Capitan and am running into all kinds of questions restore my files.  In my view, there is a new application 'Photos' in El Capitan and not iPhoto.  How to restore my iPhoto on El Capitan library?  I had copied to my iPhoto files on my new hard drive but when I opened the Photos, nothing is there except the pictures of my photo stream.

For some reason, I wasn't able to restore my files via Time Machine (don't know why), but I did a backup of my files on an external hard drive before erasing my hard drive, so I don't have those.

I'd appreciate any guidance.  Thank you very much!!

Pictures of launch with down option, click library and choose iPhoto one.

Check the settings on your iPhone.  Have you enabled iCloud photo library in the settings > iCloud > Photos on your iPhone?  Or "my photo stream?

If you have iCloud library active on your and your iPhone photos sync iCloud and from there will to all your devices.

If you do not want to synchronize on your iPhone photos, clear the iCloud photo library, but do not allow to delete photos from iCloud, or they will be removed the Mac as well.  With the removal of your iPhone, wait until all iCloud photo options have been disabled.

  • The photos in iPhoto and the same pictures? Is it possible to remove/save the photos to iPhoto?

The photos in iPhoto and the same pictures?  Is it possible to remove/save the photos to iPhoto?

Yes, they are literally identical. That is to say, time iPhoto Library and photo library (link) to point to the same files on your drive.

The two libraries does NOT duplicate these files. If you delete the iPhoto library you will find very little storage space.

My suggestion would be to leave in place iPhoto library until you have the habit of Photos and know with absolute certainty that all migrated to Photos correctly. Even in this case, you can copy, save a copy on a disk external backup and only remove them from your main drive.

You can restore the photos of the recently deleted items folder? I have an iCloud back for my iPad that I restored it that would have photos on them but then sync with my current iCloud files. Can I restore the last backup of iCloud?

The backup to iCloud for an iPad does not include items that are already in iCloud, your iCloud stream library and my photos are not included in the backup to iCloud.

Im running mac end 2012 with mavericks and want to upgrade to a new model of 27 "5 k. I know that all my photos will have to enter the new Photos app when I migrates from one to the other.

Is someone can please tell me if the photos app is always keep all my events and albums in iphoto. IM assuming that the slide shows will not be imported.

Also... do you do simply drag and drop photos into Photos like you do in iphoto?

If you simply drag and drop automatically appear as a new album, and you have the opportunity to name this album everything you want.

I did like iphoto and some of the horror stories I have heard about Photos is putting me off the upgrade.

I also guess that you can't create a slideshow in the new app or transfer photos directly to flickr.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

When you open the first Photos on the new machine, it will attempt to automatically import the contents of the iPhoto library. I don't really know what it does not matter.

If you have the latest version of iPhoto then before opening the pictures make a copy of your iPhoto.library file located in the folder/Home/images /. You can update iPhoto to the latest version and continue to use it in El Capitan. See the following topics:

Re: Iphoto's gone? I want to go back!

Go to the App Store and check out the shopping list. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1. If it's there, then drag your existing iPhoto application (not the library, just the app) to the trash. Install the application on the App Store.

IPhoto is sometimes not visible on the shopping list. It may be hidden. See this article for more details on how to view it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928.

A question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall? iPhoto, the application and the iPhoto library are two different parts of the iPhoto program. So, reinstall the application should not affect the library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Linking the Photos to iPhoto library

My library is on an external hard drive (150 + GB). I installed my MacBookAir from the Mavericks to El Capitan (I jumped from Yosemite).

I don't want to use iCloud for storing photos.

How directly the Photos to find my external hard disk iPhotos library?

Once I connect the photo library, I want the library to stay on the external hard drive. Can I do a separate library of iPhotos library? That repeated the photos or information just cataloguing? In essence, I'm not ready to write off my iPhoto library entirely - I have an old computer that is still running iPhoto.

A lot of people seem to be confused by the switch of iPhoto for pictures; I have not seen other questions / answers on the forum dealing with my problem though. Sorry if I'm repeating previously answered question.

    Thank you.

    1. Launch Photos with down option, click on another library and select it.

    2. it's automatic.

    3. the cataloguing information will be duplicated, but not photos. If you choose to reproduce photos, Option-do drag the photo library to a different location on the same disk in the Finder.

  • The use of iPhoto in El Capitan

"If you open iPhoto or Aperture after you upgrade to Photos, you will be asked if you want to open your library here or in pictures.  Changes or changes that you make in iPhoto are not reflected in the Photos. "And any changes or modifications that make you in pictures will not be reflected in iPhoto.

If two programs use the same library of images, I think that image changes would affect the image file and so appear regardless of what program that used to open it. What happens behind the scenes?

I could see editing an image on Photos, but then by e-mail using iPhoto because it is so much easier.

They use various libraries; Photos iPhoto one is important and creates links hard to media files when it is, but it does look like it later, unless indicated.

  • Synchronize the Photos and iPhoto?

Photos arrived it imported all my photos in iPhoto. I have not really used pictures so far and now I realize that my library in pictures is a duplicate of my iPhoto library, except that they are not synchronized. My iPhoto library is updated, every photo I want is removed. This is not the case with Photos. Is there a way I can synchronize the two apps so that the pictures is exactly the same as iPhoto is now? Now iPhoto and Photos together use more than 100 GB of space, when in reality I have about half of it in photographs.

If I can't sync, deleting photos in one application will not delete not them on the other, correct? In other words, I can delete all photos of Photos without deleting my photos in iPhoto, right?

    I have pictures 1.0.1 and iPhoto 9.6.1

    Thank you

When you open the Photos first, the migration of the iPhoto library and photos of 2 libraries are hard linked to where they do not place additional, even though both show a large amount of data. However, from there, they are treated separately with respect to the addition or deletion of photos.

You cannot synchronize the 2 applications. They are distinct and have nothing to do with one or the other.

So, you might want to simply select the one you want to use and go from there. I guess that iPhoto is gradually thereafter. Photos will be more integrated into the system as well as for tasks such as sharing in emails, adding photos to apps like mail and so on.

Yes, you can remove some or all of the photos in one application and does not affect the other.

  • What is the advantage of using the Photos to iPhoto or Aperture?

    They are all the same?

Photos is much better at sharing between devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac) that what is iPhoto. It's really good to keep all your photos accessible on all your devices; It's great if you take lots of photos with an iPhone and you want to "automagically" appear on your Mac. You can also synchronize all your changes between everything instantly.

Adaptability of the photos is on par with iPhoto. I would like to say, it is a good replacement for iPhoto, as in almost every sense is as good or better.

The opening is a very different beast. Organizational abilities Aperture and image adjustment capabilities (with curves, adjustments, etc.) were far beyond what the pictures offers today. If you are a serious amateur or pro photographer and openness really effect of leverage, and Photos is a big step backward. But for 95% of users, it probably isn't.

I don't know what that means.  Does this mean that you try to access photos from another device?

They will play in the Photos if you import them directly from your iPhone (without using iCloud).

If you do so, you will see this in the lower left corner of the photo in pictures:

Click on the "Live" button to see the movement.
