your best bet is to work with the manufacturer of your laptop, maybe they xp on their shelves.

also, the restore disks may require specialty measures to run for them to be activated.

but this section could also be copied into the new HDD as well, according to which 'broke' implies.

  • Missing OS... Basic Vista restore disk will not load

I tried EVERYTHING except YOUR solution!  I'm not dummie (well, maybe), but it's me and some friends very tech savvy absolutely perplexed.

Stage 1:   Dell Inspiron 1545.  Zero out HD.  Restore disk will not load.  Black screen States:

    Missing operating system
    Press a key to reboot_

Scene 2:   Windows 7 (not a working copy) does very well, but not Vista Basic.  XP (again, not a working copy)almost loaded!  I even tried loading Vista on Win7 nothing helps.  Lived all the NTLDR missing, etc., has visited several Q / a forum... you're my last shot at this!  I even tried restoring disks from my other laptop (Toshiba), knowing full well, it produces no result... there not!  lol HD and motherboard are beautiful - I AM able to load OS to 'other' guys... Superblock is now ultimately nonexistent.

Final:   Current situation: Zero out Once AGAIN , tried to install it, HD has failed.  A ran bootfix and installed SMTDRV.  Always the same black screen and invites as stated above, when you try to load Vista.  The thing F12, the same result.  DVD is fine.  The done of F2 and load default.  Guess that that same result.

I have Win7, but the funds just aren't there.  I am a student (ISS), but my University is not offered at the discount of Win7.  Please help me to recover my Vista!  Thank you, thank you, thank you... in advance!

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?
Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..
What is the issue that you are experiencing that you think that the system restore will be remedied (or you are just convenient)?  System Restore is not a time machine, but of course, this should work if you think you need.
Some tools Anti Virus 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.

For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:
Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...
It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:
According to what you use for malware protection, you may need to disable the product temporarily, do the system restore and then turn the products light up again when the system restore is complete.
Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.  Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.  It works for some configurations.
System Restore is sometimes so afflicted or Restore Points are suspicious, the best solution is to reinstall your system restore.  This will remove the old Restore Points, but sometimes it's the only way to fix a broken system restore.  You don't have to reinstall XP, only the part of system restore.
That can leave you with your problem of unspecified origin that you hope the system restore will fix (using a system restore is usually not equivalent to fixing the problem though).
Give these ideas some consideration if they apply to you.
Sometimes malicious will afflict your system restore to prevent you to find and remove malware.  It would much rather you trick into thinking that you need to repair or reinstall your XP when it is not necessary.
No matter what you use for protection against malware, I do so and then only begin to solve any problems:
Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
It can be uninstalled later if you wish.

I'm writing this in case others have had the same problem, I had and it was impossible to restore.

When I pressed "del" and got the installer, I looked in the first box, product information.

This info was typed in a field of google search on a working pc, and I discovered that I could restore my pc by pressing the ALT key and pressing F8 repeatedly. It will work for Acer Asprire anyway. Just an idea for all those who were distraught as I was and knew nothing about the restoration or what my pc really was. I was lucky and got my restored xp, it works ok and I enjoy it once more.

Good luck to all of you who have had the same problem I did.

Whenever I turn on my pc, I find the time to scan the disk and chjeck to find errors etc, just to try to avoid

    have a pc unstabel again.

Swap the optical disk drive and you will be able to use the recovery disc. You can get it on eBay and it is not so expensive.

  • system restore points will not work

I'm doing a restore of the system as well and it keeps telling me it can't restore to the day, I chose. I tried it in regular and I now do in safe mode with no luck.  I run MBAM and SAS and only found some cookeis get rid of.  IM on XP pro sp3 and the reason to want go back, is that for some reason, some of my programs have been moved (paint and Calculator have been deleted unless I use RUN: to find them) and then my documents folder is now inaccessible.  I need a restore point at work and soon!

Some security programs prevent changes to their file and must be configured to allow the restoration of the system work.  For example, if your computer has Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security, you must disable Norton product Tamper Protection before you run the system restore. • Disc 6 of 6 of restore disks will not be read. Stuck between the 5 and 6. How do I? HP Pavilion with XP did not come with disks.

Due to problems with my computer, I decided to start over and restore hard drive in its original state. The computer came with all disks, so I burned the discs to restore immediately after purchase. The first 5 disks has brought but the last one, number 6, the habit of reading. Now I'm stuck on the screen that says 'Number 6 in the drive Insert disk'. I tried to restart the restoration from the beginning, but it passes directly to the same screen asking for disc 6. Hi reda:
You must contact the parts store HP for a restore to your computer disk. Better yet, contact Microsoft Store or support where you bought or downloaded Windows 7 Ultimate from. I received the same message as well. I click the messaged that he ran scan it checked. Never seen the message once again. You paid a lot of money for this high rank. Microsoft will come good on that. I would contact them first before making a recovery and spend more money.

  • upgrade activation code will not work on windows vista premium due to special circumstances. What should I do?

I had vista OEM with laptop which hard drive has crashed, gateway does not support the system more, and I have no recovery disk.  I bought Vista premium edition and installed a new hard drive in the solid state, and it won't let me register the software because there is no software on the new drive and I do not have the OEM cd more.  I used my old XP install the first (that I replaced on another PC with win7) to try and it has not installed correctly on the solid state.  What I can do, I wouldn't buy a full version...

You can use the double-install method to install Vista - * assuming * that you have an OEM license valid for XP or Vista on this machine.

First install Vista using the default key (by penetrates not not in ANY key when you perform the installation), and then repeat the installation, this time using your upgrade key.

  • Satellite L350-235 a restore disk runs on a brand new HARD drive?

    Hello

My hard drive is dead (completely) 3 days out of warranty.
Recovery discs has not yet loaded, all I had was a black screen and a mouse pointer.

So I bought a new hard drive. Problem I have now is how to install Windows on a new drive.
    What should I get Toshiba?

I obviously paid for Windows Vista, when I bought the laptop, so I'm a little confused on what to do next.
A restore disk will work on a whole new drive?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

Didn t drive recovery does not happen with the laptop because you had an option to create one using the preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator.

You now have this disc which can be ordered here:
    https://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

Boot from that disk and follow the instructions on the screen.
The recovery disk works also with the new HARD drive!
